looking for battery monitor that shows instantanious current draw - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to have battery monitor app on windows mobile
That would show current battery draw as in milliwatts.
You could turn apps off and see it instantly change.
It was very easy to find problem.
You coild get sleep current draw too.
Does any one know of an app work like this?

Great question...
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

Well I didn't find the app, but I found my battery issue.
It was LTE. My battery is probably 3-4x better with it off (CDMA only)
I'm on the hairy edge of LTE at home and work
I think it was constantly fighting to get on and then failing.
It was fighting to get on to LTE even while on wifi.

Ultimate Juice & Juice Defender WORKING!!!

Uninstall both JD Ultimate & JD, then restart phone.
Install JD Ultimate FIRST and launch it. It will ask you to instal JD. either get it from the market, or install the private beta, if you have it.
Once both are installed, launch JD.
I'm running it in Advanced Profile.
IF YOU'RE IN A 3g ONLY AREA, you need to check the box for "Mobile Data Autofix". It SHOULD NOW toggle your 3g data connection when you unlock the screen. It takes about 45 seconds because it's restarting the radio; but it does come back on.
IF YOU'RE IN A 4g/LTE AREA, no need to check the Autofix box. The 4g connection pops right back on IMMEDIATLEY after unlocking.
I have tested this successfully in 3g Richmond, VA AND in 4g Boston, MA over the last week consistently. I have also reported my findings to the Latedroid Feedback & Support Forum. The Devs have confirmed the sequence and are invesigating it as a possible firmware issue.
So, for now, 4g is working perfectly... 3g works with about a 45 second delay. And I'm @ 1.76x battery savings boost! Went almost 12.5 hours on 4g, heavy internet, sms, and FB app use. But, now, unfortunately I'm back in slow 3g Richmond!
Well, I bought and installed JD ultimate because of this post and I messed up my phone big time.
It seemed to work great at first, then I totally lost my data connection and even turning off the app and restarting didn't fix it. I finally did get back my data by deleting JD and restarting/pulling the battery etc but the system is still not right.
It is very laggy now and I will have to do a system restore (something that always makes me a little nervous)
I am running gummy 1.9.1 and I really don't want to redo the whole system, but I may have to I suppose.
I would not advise anybody to try this app at this point.
~John
I have been running JD plus on Gummy GB for about 3 weeks. Switches just fine and my data has been coming back. Why do you have to have ultimate? I have not seen any updates on my version either?
I think I must be lucky but it has been working for me.
I can't imagine how JD screwed up your phone the way you describe Jmorton. I doubt it's the app.... Ellisz, you are lucky! Lol! There are a couple support threads open on this issue over at Laterdroid. For whatever reason this is what worked for me. I already owned Ultimate from my Droid X, so that's what I use.
Mine worked fine on gb but not froyo. Wheres this mobile data autofix I can't find it

This is the ONLY change I have made in weeks and the problem started almost immediately. Removing the app did get my data running again and the phone does seem OK now after multiple reboots/battery pulls and clearing the memory.
I guess it may work in then GB ROMs, but in my froyo setup it caused all kinds of problems. Iwill just shut off 4g with my toggle when I don't need it and carry a spare battery which is no big deal.

Out of topic just want to share....i was looking for a spare battery, and really dint like the bulk from extended battery, but looking in my old stuff I found a samsung battery from my old samsung omnia HD or i8910 and fits perfectly I've not y tired yet cuz is dead so is charging now, just wanna share I mean I never believed they use same batteries from old model to new models....and I even have the cradle charger for that battery now I'm happy I did not get rid of it...lol

Does anyone think the app will work on our phone? Looks like it's released for the international version.

I just installed this. Seems to work just fine. Good looking, as far as Car Mode apps go, but perhaps not as powerful. Still, I think that I'll be using it a lot. Also, it seems to expect TouchWiz apps, so don't be surprised if it doesn't work right on an AOSP rom.

Looks good, but it would be nice if you could add extra apps to have access to in the interface. Of course, I doubt that will happen because it's designed to work with mirrorlink and follows some safety precautions.
Think I'll stick with Google CarHome.
I have it working on myphone running stock not rooted (yet) but weather dont work and i thought it was supposed to read your email? i installed for that but I don't think thats the case.

I used it on my drive home yesterday afternoon and found that the weather wasn't working for me either. Seems that it is too dumb to recognize the location services enabled on the phone, or maybe it just doesn't like Verizon. Still, even with GPS enabled and locked it couldn't figure it out. I suppose that's why they haven't released a NA version yet. Hopefully they just release it and don't let the carriers get involved. Also, I don't have a car with Mirror link so I don't know if that's working or not.

I too have noticed the the weather as well as temp controls were not functional. I also came across some functionality issues with adding shortcuts within the app. While the overall look is nice it just feels incompatible with our Verizon SGS3's. \
After a little searching I found and side loaded the google Car Home app and am blown away by how smooth it is by comparison. Bonus for being transparent and showing my live wallpaper, it's the little things that matter sometimes. :good:
Same with AT&T S3.
BTW which google car home app?

Car Home from Google
I got them on XDA somewhere a while back pulled for another phone. They work fine on the GS3.

So I don't know if it is because I was still connected to WiFi in my driveway or because I've rebooted the phone once or twice since installing the Drive Link app, but this morning on my way to the airport Drive Link had both location and weather. Furthermore, where I had previously been seeing some weird data icon in the pseudo status bar (H+?), today I saw a normal 4G icon. I didn't notice it updating the location as I went (i.e. the weather stayed stuck at my departure location), but it's entirely possible that I didn't notice as a function of being tired. Regardless, it seems that this app actually works! Can someone try rebooting and/or enabling GPS outside while still connected to WiFi to confirm/narrow down what needs to happen to get this app working?

This is most likly because you were still connected to the wifi network and it downloaded the data once you got a lock. When I plug mine into the car it disables my 3G as it thinks I'm USB tethering to a PC because thats where the data for Mirroring travels through. That should be fixed with the US release.

Google now?

I'm curious to know how many people are using Google now on their nexus s. I find it to be a huge battery drain so always turn it off. Do other users feel the same?

I use it regularly since the start, I have no noticeable battery drain.
I use it and don't mind it, I get around 2 days of battery with moderate use and some calls. Wi-fi is always on, localization services are always on, mobile data (3G) is always off. It lasts me more than one day even if I keep using the phone so I'm fine with it.
I would say it 'eats' 10 to 50% more battery per charge depending on usage. If you have it mostly in standby you are more likely to notice the battery hit. If you keep using the phone for one thing or another, it won't make much difference.
With 4.2.1 it seems to hold pretty well while being very snappy. The official 4.1.2 follows the same trend (lasting around 2 days with the same use), but I really liked how fast it got with Air Kernel. I usually have around 200 MB free.
I'm currently using Rasbeanjelly (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028718) with Air Kernel #270 (CM,Voodoo Colors http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469842) and noop+SmartAssV2 setup. So far battery seems to hold up fine through the day. The only real downside I got from this was the occasional sleep of death (while using the phone, very weird, I would report it to the maintainer but I can't as I'm new around here), a FC when accessing Chrome settings (seems to be related with google sync feature) and the less stellar performance when changing orientation (same kernel and official 4.1.2 ROM doesn't have the issue).
Although it is handy sometimes, I think the worst aspect is the 'nagging' that Google Now has. Last time I got a "WTF" expression was with it saying that I walked 40Km that month more 20 than the last month, a nice feature, but completely unexpected, I would like to have a proper access to that kind of cards and the information that they provide... If you search weather it won't give you the same weather card shown automatically by it (at least for me).... one of these says it will be ready to take over the world...
G next should do you pretty well

I find it useless. I have my weather app, and I have my lottery app. Hockey has been cancelled, so I have no scores to keep checking. What would I use it for? Random google search? Meh.
I hate every time I accidentally hit the search button.

I use Google Now because I'm fascinated by the creepiness of it. I like that when I'm at work, it tells me how long it will take me to get home if I leave now. I was confused when one Saturday at 11:45 am it was giving me the locations of nearby restaurants, then my wife said it's probably because it's almost lunch time. Google Now knows what I want before I do!
I haven't tried turning it off to save battery life yet, but I unplug from the charger at 6:30 am and plug in at midnight no problem.

Ok. So I had previously disabled Google Now because it drained so much battery. But I was wanting to use it since the updates keep getting better so here's what I did to where it isn't destroying battery anymore.
I have Latitude and location updating turned off in Maps, but found out enabling Google Now turned location updating back on. So once you have Now enabled, go into Maps and uncheck where it says "Update my location from this device". It still works fine because I have location reporting (or something like that) turned on in Google sync in Settings. It still uses wifi and/or the towers to update your cards, but Maps isn't taking chunks out of the battery anymore.

Hello all
Anyone know any good battery apps? I know the battery is awesome on this phone but I was just wondering if there's any good ones out there. Sometimes high over clock uses up battery. I've heard that some don't play nice with JB. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I use Juice Defender Plus (one of the paid versions, but the free version does the same job). It works well on my XT925. I use it to mainly kill the 3G/4G connection when the screen is turned off, and that helps battery life significantly. There are downsides. You don't get push notifications instantly when the phone is sleeping, but with the paid versions you can set JD to turn the data connection back on periodically (every 15 or 30 mins etc) to allow emails, fb messages, twitter notifications etc to come through. JD offers lots of other battery saving features, but that is the main one.
The only problem I've had is, maybe twice since I've had the phone (over 6 months) it has rebooted when I've opened the JD app to adjust the settings. JD runs happily in the background 24/7, but there obviously is a little bug in there somewhere. No reason to avoid JD in my opinion, though. Try the free version and see how it goes.
For the record, I also tried the Snapdragon Battery Guru app. Found it nowhere near as good for saving battery as Juice Defender.
Hope that helps.

this^ my favorite app quite possibly ever
I liked the onexuan one power guard when I was worried about battery life on my galaxy nexus. Very easy to configure. No frills.
Requires root.
I have my smart actions set to disable mobile data when I'm at certain locations (because there's wifi there, yet you can't say when on this wifi disable mobile data).
It's pretty accurate, only bad part, no mms with mobile data off. Everything else works just fine.
I would try *#*#4636#*#* and change the setting to one of the 3g only ones and see if you notice a significant increase.
Also try cpu spy and see if your device is sleeping properly.
Better battery stats and see if there's a bad app with too many partial wake locks.

[Q] Mobile standy battery usage

Hello everyone,
For some time, the most prominent battery usage of my phone has been my mobile data, and this is the reason that I have it disabled in my everyday usage because my phone lasts twice as long if I leave my mobile data off.
I'm wondering if it's normal that my mobile network uses approximately 20-30% of my battery with moderate screen time. In the screenshot I've attached to my phone, I've used my phone moderately and I've had data on for about two hours total.
As you can see, it uses 20% and I haven't had it on for that long, and I'm wondering if this is normal. If I would've left it on every minute I didn't have wifi, this percentage would be a lot higher.
Also, could this be lessened by flashing a new radio? I don't have any experience with this but I'm hearing a lot about it here.
Thanks in advance!
The most recent OTA update from T-Mobile/HTC has resulted in significant battery drain for my One S. I'm not sure if that fits your scenario or not but, I would be curious to know if there are others who have experienced similar.

Well, it isn't completely similar since I'm on CyanogenMod 10.1 and I haven't flashed any other radio than the one that was on it.
But I've noticed data costing a lot of battery for a long time now, and I seem to be the only one who has a problem with this.

Although most radios are on the whole not much different than each other, different radios do provide very slight gains/losses in battery drain, and in data speeds too. So feel free to experiment.
(Personally? If I were you, I would just flash one of the latest radio versions, and leave it at that. You must remember that data is one of the biggest battery hogs on almost ANY device, and that this is simply to be expected until mobile modem/radio technology improves.)

Thanks a lot for the reply. I'll check out the choice of radios soon. I just didn't know if data was using more on my device, or on anyone's, because I rarely hear complaints about it. But I get it now and I guess I'll have to wait for better technology indeed.
