[Q] whether to root or not - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys,
i am confused to root my moto g or not.
i have a little experience of root on my htc wfs (rooted after the warranty period)
but i own a moto g and it is still under warranty.
i am looking for some advice whether to root or not
could you guys suggest something.
thanks and regards
-AK

my answer is no
I have used couple of phones all are rooted except my moto g. I did not find any reason to root it till now. All my other phones are rooted for many reasons like lag, updated os , custom buttons and features, over clock etc and never cared about warranty. But i am very happy with stock moto g. No lags in playing any games, 1 day 10 hrs of avg battery, we can rate moto series to nexus interms of software updates.. My phone is not rooted and i am happy with my moto g. Cheers.

I wont root the phone until there is a way to do it without messing with the bootloader
or the warranty expires

I paid 50 bucks for my moto g. I am dying to root and unlock the bootloader, for a ton of reasons.
Firstly, titanium backup
OTG xbox 360 controller
wiimote
overclocking, undervolting
CM11 and Paranoid android. I love these roms, and they call to me.
Basically with custom roms you open up an entire new way to use android. You get to customize your phone like never before.
don't get me wrong, other than 3g, and verizion prepaid in general I love this phone. But I still want to mess around with it:}

Hmm,
Thanks for all the replies.
I agree with the 2nd and 3rd post,
That u need a reason to root,
And the moto g is best when compared to all.
I was using HTC wfs and it was rooted again
After root the performance got little better but not
Up to my expectation.
Reading the above posts are I think
I conclude that no need to root.
But I like to customise phones so I will wait till
The warranty expires and think again to root or not.

I think you like to root and customise.
Its your way of using.
The rooted ones give you more features but voids warranty.
If you need to root your phone then try the
Moto g AIO TOOL by alonsoch
Link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635706
That tool helps you to root and install cwm recovery and also allows you to convert to gpe

poll
guys i request you to kindly answer the poll

I think the answer of the question can only be given by you, whether you want to customize your phone in very little manner as there is no stable rom but you can enjoy xposed framework and Titanium backup on rooted device or you can stay in warranty as of unrooted device decision is yours

If you need to ask, the answer is you don't need root.

[Q] Tring to unroot LG G2X

I bought a LG G2X from someone and they failed to tell me the phone was rooted, I have no clue what to do with a rooted phone and honestly I don't care to have that access. Could someone please help me unroot this phone. I know enough about cell phones since I did sell them. When I got the phone it was in safe mode, I rebooted it and did a wipe of the phone and seen that it had superuser on it. I have all the information with the phone but not sure what to do so that I can update this device. PLEASE HELP! I can't afford to brick the phone at this moment since I have no clue what I'm doing. Thank you.
I'll tell you off the bat I do not know how to unroot this device. I will also tell you that this phone is worth its weight in sh*t if its not rooted. If you do a little reading around the stickies you'll see this phone is nearly impossible to hard brick. Most of the time a full wipe and reflash or nandroid save fixes the worst of issues. We have had some amazing developers create awesome software for this device that I think you would love to experience.

Thank you, the only reason i want to unroot is since I can't update my phone it keeps turning off for no reason and sometimes it will take 15 minutes to place a call, I need to shut it off or do a battery pull all the time for the phone to function, thank you very very much for your info I greatly appreciate it I'm thinking it over or I need to figure out how to upgrade while rooted
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
When you say "upgrade" do you mean the software on the phone or upgrading to a new phone in general? If you do some searching you can find some stock unrooted roms that you can flash I believe. If I were you I would flash vanilla Cyanogen Mod 7. It is the most stable ROM for this device and offers wonderful customization options. The only thing that will not work is blue tooth calling. You can find the latest nightly build at get.cm. If you wish to make battery life better there are great developers for this device who have manufactured some awesome kernels that can be overclocked and undervolted. I'm currently running CM7 with Trinity's MAX 1500 kernel overclocked to 1.2mhz and undervolted across the board. I get amazing battery life and buttery smooth performance.
Use ROM for recovery nvflash method to return to stock. Then you can update either OTA or using the kdz method.

Un rooting LG G2

Buy New LG G3 (ATT) - Yes or No? Lolllipop bugs?

Howdy folks,
I was going to buy a new ATT LG G3 (D850) to replace an aging Galaxy S3. At $250 it seems a good deal.
Then I read the bad news about how lollipop 5.0 push screwed things up? Should I stay away from this due to Lollipop 5.0 issues?
[I generally don't put custom roms due to lack of time, but if there is one that's bug free/stable I can consider that]
Thanks
I would recommend go for newer phone than older model. Try LG G4 or Samsung phone as your new phone.
As far as lollipop issues in LG G3, I didn't find any issue in my phone, I was very much happy.
Hope this helps.
I just got a new g3 from someone off CL. Definitely worth it. Took me 5 mins to root and put resurrection mm on here. Phone flies and no major bugs that hinder me from loving this phone
While I would recommend a new model (for LG the G4 or V10), the G3 is not a bad model for $250, especially if new. In regards to Lollipop, there are some minor bugs, but no more than I have seen on any other model in my opinion. I have not really noticed any bugs
It depends on what you want to do with your phone. What I mean by that is so you want custom roms? Or at least want to root and install a custom recovery?
Idk about ATT but I'm on Verizon and a lot of there phones have locked bootloader or no way to loki hack and install a custom recovery so that's one reason I still have my g3 after a little over a year and have not bought a g4 [emoji14]
So I say if that's what you want do some research and see what ATT phones can do that.
Also would be using a contract update or just buying it straight out, if it's a contract try to get something newer if you using a contract not the g3 is a great choice I'm running cm 13 and love my g3

Well I have had my verizon G3 since August of 2014 so it's been rooted ever since I got it . But from what I have seen on forms. You should be able to downgrade the software from the latest to older ones then root and install twrp. Unless the latest update blocks that

New to the ATT V10....no root for MM, I know, but a small question to clarify

Hello
I just received my V10, bought from swappa, and it has 5.1.1 on it. I see that there is no way to root MM, so we have to decide on LP rooted or MM unrooted, right?
If I want to root LP, can you point me to the thread? Also, I shouldn't accept the MM update once I activate the phone, right?

It all depends on what you desire. Some people (like me) can't live without root. Rooting unlocks the full potential and possibilities for the device. Sticking with LP rooted seems like a better choice to me. Also I've seen some people complaining about the battery life on MM as compared to LP.
Here's the link for root:

Thank you affangta. Of course i want root. Who doesn't? My question was more technical than theoretical, like your answer.
My phone forced the upgrade to MM, and thus I'm now stuck like many others; i had no way of stopping the software upgrade right after I activated the phone.
Oh well

Unfortunately, when I bought the phone MM update was already installed in it. Hence, I'm in the same situation as you. What I wouldn't give to go back to LP and root the device
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!

Want to Root LH 955 (G Flex2)

I Have rooted LS996 and was successful but I kind of goofed up while flashing the ROM and bricked it. I paid a bomb at the service centre to replace the motherboard to LH955 (guess it is the global version).
Here's my question, I want to root LH955 but I am not finding a solid thread like the previous one to root it. Probably with One Click Method is better for me. I so want to root it again but want to be safe. I am virtually broke
Is there anyone who has done LH955 before or help me in the right direction to do so.
I hate bloatware and I want full control of my phone.
Many thanks :good:

I paid a bomb. It was in INR.
I got this unlocked phone from ebay at 14K (the sprint LS966 Version)
I rooted. It was successful.
While flashing ROM i bricked the phone.
Installed new motherboard with Indian version which was H955 again at 14K
Felt like a fool, but guess it was somewhat worth it.

LG Stylo 4 root?

So the LG Stylo 4 is a beautiful budget smartphone and i cant find any information on it here at xda so i figured i would start a thread for people to go to and discuss getting root on this device. Anyone with any experience or if anyone thinks the root process for another lg phone might work with this phone and is willing to test out and report back let us all know.
I am afraid we are out of luck this time...see below
messi2050 said:
Unfortunately stylo 4 requires unlock.bin from lg to unlock the bootloader to be able to flash twrp in order to flash [magisk or super su] and root the device [those information are according to 2 of the real device owners as i don't have one] this is similar to what exist on some lg v20 and g6 [carrier models] and from my experience lg won't allow bootloader to be unlocked similar to what they did on the models i mentioned, this mean that it will be very difficult if not impossible at all to root the stylo 4 and it will end like the still non-rootable stylo 3 ls777 from boost mobile.

unfortunately, this device is not supported by LG to get a unlock code...

First tme in the stylo series history I wanted to return my stylo 4.
I elected to get the K20 Plus..
Great devs working on the K20 plus.
Im loving the Resurrection Remix Custom Rom.
Why not there is devopler options enable oem unlock have you tried unlocking bootloader via adb commands
I have a unlocked metropcs version of the stylo 4 will this phone work on verizon. as it does have bands 2-4-13 which is what verizon uses.

Just got this phone from Xfinity. I have "OEM Unlocking" enabled??? Is this a dummy OEM?
Haven't tried anything yet.
Root x Recovery
Stylo 4
There is article that a quick Google search will turn up that claims to have step by step instructions including unlocking the bootloader of the Stylo 4 which is supposedly done with a .bin file emailed by LG after submitting IMEI number of the phone. But have yet to see any confirmations of this.
Any solution yet to unlock it?, mine is lg-stylo 4 metro pcs
Have any if you guys tried kingroot? I'm thinking of upgrading my stylo2 plus but I'm not going to if root hasn't been acquired. I used Kingroot about 7 times and got root on the first day of getting my Stylo2. Maybe it'll work on the 4?
Look, I want root as much as the next guy, but it's not happening this time. We gotta keep bugging LG/MetroPCS so the next time they release a phone it's unlockable! In my opinion root isn't as needed, although I'm missing some features like the ability to download Instagram photos, and some eye candy mods, not much is needed.

The bootloader not unlockable using the previous terminal or new fastboot commands....fastboot oem unlock, fastboot flashing unlock.
The carrier influenced the locked down of obtaining root.
Hope you guys can crack a hard shell..
Good luck...
I may try the old towelroot app, but i currently have a metro lmq710ms stylo 4 and it IS bootloader locked...you need a bin file that's derived from an algorithm that uses the device ID and IMEI supplied by LG to unlock the bootloader using a fastboot command. Currently, this device isn't on LG's list of approved devices for an unlock but if I'm correct the device is essentially a slimmed down spec lmg710 which means it likely uses the same bootloader. Only problem is without knowing LG's algorithm that's building the unlock.bin file we can't generate one using our device ID/IMEI combination.
I would say bug LG about it, but i fear this device isn't going to get enough people angry to get the job done! :/ which is a shame because it's a lovely budget device! Runs great! And a few root tweaks and kernel adjustments could really have it running like a flagship!

Root may be possible for things like TiBu but until someone cracks the bootloader (unlikely) ROMS, Recovery, Kernels are out...

If someone was willing to share an official unlock.bin for a lmg710 then there's a REMOTE possibility a .bin could be built but it would be device-dependent, meaning the file would need editted for each device cuz they all have different dev id and imei's....i know there were some folks looking at it on another bl locked lg device but it's a real toughie with STRONG chances for bricking the bootloader...

The only thing i want more than root which is alot easier is the AR Stickers port from LG G7 ThinQ.. Im currently working on it with an apk tool app i can share.. Its hard to find.. Any help would be appreciated.. This phone is beast even without root.. I had a guy tell me he prefers it over the iphone 8+ cause its all screen like Galaxy S8, has wide angle camera with qlens so camera port is possible, android 8.1 and 6.2" lcd?! Best free phone i ever had.. Even got the $6 a month issurance cause I'm keeping this for awhile.. But root would be nice..
Ok so without a proper app port im not having luck.. Phone is only 32bit and main apps are 64bit.. Apparently the change need to be made in the manifest but not sure where in the manifest.. So far the ar core app install no prob since its 32bit.. After days found a google camera with modded manifest, its now 32bit and install.. Just ar stickers app port left and no info on modding manifest.. Any help would be appreciated.. This thread got quiet.. What you guys working on
Here are pics of cam working..
