Howdy folks,
I was going to buy a new ATT LG G3 (D850) to replace an aging Galaxy S3. At $250 it seems a good deal.
Then I read the bad news about how lollipop 5.0 push screwed things up? Should I stay away from this due to Lollipop 5.0 issues?
[I generally don't put custom roms due to lack of time, but if there is one that's bug free/stable I can consider that]
Thanks
I would recommend go for newer phone than older model. Try LG G4 or Samsung phone as your new phone.
As far as lollipop issues in LG G3, I didn't find any issue in my phone, I was very much happy.
Hope this helps.
I just got a new g3 from someone off CL. Definitely worth it. Took me 5 mins to root and put resurrection mm on here. Phone flies and no major bugs that hinder me from loving this phone
While I would recommend a new model (for LG the G4 or V10), the G3 is not a bad model for $250, especially if new. In regards to Lollipop, there are some minor bugs, but no more than I have seen on any other model in my opinion. I have not really noticed any bugs
It depends on what you want to do with your phone. What I mean by that is so you want custom roms? Or at least want to root and install a custom recovery?
Idk about ATT but I'm on Verizon and a lot of there phones have locked bootloader or no way to loki hack and install a custom recovery so that's one reason I still have my g3 after a little over a year and have not bought a g4 [emoji14]
So I say if that's what you want do some research and see what ATT phones can do that.
Also would be using a contract update or just buying it straight out, if it's a contract try to get something newer if you using a contract not the g3 is a great choice I'm running cm 13 and love my g3

Well I have had my verizon G3 since August of 2014 so it's been rooted ever since I got it . But from what I have seen on forms. You should be able to downgrade the software from the latest to older ones then root and install twrp. Unless the latest update blocks that

hi guys,
It's been a great time in the OneX forum - I still remember when I stayed up all night in excitement when the Bootloader was unlocked on the AT&T version !
I just got myself a LG G2 - which is suprisingly cheap (as new for 200 USD) and powerful for its size... and I am drooling over the 3000 mah battery. I thought of getting the OPO, as a lot of ex-Evita owners did, but things are really murky in the OPO territory with the whole CM incident. Also, it's way too big for me and does not have a tenth of the accessories that the LG G2 has.
I'm still holding on to my Evita - so I'll see you guys from time to time !
i got the LG G2 but im back on the evita. the evita is so much easier to modify. also with the at&t version the d800, uses .tot files instead of .kdz to go back to stock which has to be leaked instead of direct dl from lg which makes the firmware version old then u have to ota back up to latest. i should of gone with the htc one m7 or m8.
the plus side is if u dont need the current firmware images u can root and flash recovery all on the phone. i find the lg ui to be the only stock ui i can stand without having to go aosp as a must.
i tested the moto x and the nexus 6 which are nice but pricey right now. i have been waiting for moto to come out with a good android device on at&t since motorola got me started phone modding first with the triplets series v600 then at&t first android phone the moto backflip motus.
i will eventually pull out the lg g2 d800 again but for now the evita has given me new appreciation.

As compared to the Evita, the LG G2 is super moddable . Check out my story here . In fact I love the fact that I am able to hack the Lg G2 to the extent I am. You are incorrect in the TOT vs KDZ statement - the TOT is only needed for a particular flash method using LG Flash tool. However, the flash method I used to recover from my hardbricked phone only ever needed KDZ.
The M7 and M8 are the world's most unrepairable phones (here ) - one of the biggest reason that I did not go with them. As on today, the most hackable phones are the LG and the Moto.
If you want a brilliant stock experience on the G2, then I suggest Cloudy G3 which leverages the G3 UI (which is quite good). We are getting official Lollipop in Feb, so that should be pretty cool as well !
Hi, I bought last month a LG G3 D850 from AT&T, I'm from Argentina.
I must say that I'm very disappointed about this phone by the way, the extraction of the FM chip is really anoying.
But I have it, and for a year maybe I must use it.
The problem is that AT&T only update Android if you have a SIM Card from AT&T, and in Argentina AT&T doesn't exist.
I rooted the phone and try Cyanogem (the graphics are really poor and the performance is poorer) and Cloudy G3 (that has A LOT of bugs and problems with the system).
So I ask you, if you can help me, the official AT&T Room of Lollipop. I prefer a lot of AT&T programs (that can be uninstalled) that have a rom that crash every 5 minutes.
I apreciate your help a lot.

You can follow my LG G3 back to stock guide and use the tot method. But there's no lollipop. You'd be stuck with kitkat, as OTA doesn't work. There's no official D850 lollipop tot and probably never will be. You'd have to flash KitKat. And hope OTA might some how work or try manually downloading the OTA after rooting the fresh install of kitkat.

That's a shame.
But anyway, it's secure to come back to kitkat? Or there's a chance of broke the phone without a chance of recoverying it?
Can you put the link of the guide?
Thank you!

There will always be a way. . Just like ever since it first came out. It's just very doubtful that a stock lollipop will come out.
It's not easy to link when mobile but here you go. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53452990
Also just googling LG G3 back to stock that guide is the first one.

If you are OK with keeping root and TWRP, there are in fact stock ATT lollipop roms that you can use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/development/rom-lg-d850-20f-lollipop-5-0-1-extras-t3052041 - Stock ATT 5.0.1 ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/development/rom-20f-stock-rom-debloated-t3059610 - Same stock ATT 5.0.1 ROM but with most ATT apps removed
Thank you very much!!!!!
Hey, I heard somewhere that if you build a ROM off the stock kernel it would work even if you had a locked bootloader, I am going to try to learn how to make ROMs because it sounds intresting. Just a question.
can't we use flashfire to install ROMs?
Now that we have root I'm sure all these options are being looked at by the devs. Its a waiting game less you have the drive to learn how to become a dev yourself. Me personally I don't have what it takes so I'm just checking the forums daily.
Any luck on cm roms

I doubt CM roms will come out any time soon, if Im not mistaken CM roms need bootloader to be unlocked, which we havent had any yet.
Can anybody confirm if we can flash custom stock roms with flashfire?

Got a V10 from AT&T today
Hey guys,
We got a V10 from AT&T today in exchange for a G3 that crapped out. I hadn't heard of this phone until I took it out of the box (was expecting a G5). I saw there wasn't a CM release for the H900 and this thread is the most active one I found. I'm a software engineer and have rooted/rom'd several android phones, most recently the G3.
Short story long, I'd like to get CM working/supported on this thing. I saw a guide on stechguide.com for rooting and getting TWRP loaded via lgup/tot method that I'm going to try out. I was also wondering if any of you guys have done this, and if there are any rumors or news for cm support.

If you are on Lollipop you can root using the Tungkick method, but there is no TWRP available for the H900. The bootloader is locked and there is no unlock available for it yet. I wouldn't trust that guide.
If you are on MarshMallow there is no root available yet. Keep an eye out on this forum though, chances are it will break here first.
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!
Have anyone figure it out yet??
Please let me know if you got it

There is interest in this. We simply don't have enough devs. We used to, until someone pissed off JCase and he refused to work on the V10.

The key to unlocking their bootloader would be nice
Right, of course. But can I ask for something else that allows the unlock? In other words, can I reword it?
EDIT- I emailed him asking flat out for a way or a contact of his that might be willing to help unlock the bootloader. Let's keep holding our breaths.

Boost is billing the neutered version of the LG G Stylo as the Stylo 2. And if you have already updated to 6.0 there is no current way to root or rollback to 5.1.1.

I think Nemo is confused. As was said earlier there Stylo 2 just came out. It came with 6.0.1 The G Stylo came with 5.1.1 and could be up or down graded as you saw fit and if you were willing to do the work of restoring kHz's etc.
These value phones seem to get left behind quite a lot. I think the G Stylo only had ...2 custom roms? Both Lollipop. When the 2 came out I jumped on it. This far nothing really can be done to it. People are working on root, and I've been doing my own searching for it. It looks to be a sleight ways away tho. Just be patient and enjoy the phone as it it. It's still pretty good

Actually I am not. Now there is a real Stylo 2 but Boost marketed a cut down version of the Stylo with 1gig of Ram and an 8gig rom as the Stylo 2 at the time of the previous post. And once you had 6.0 on it any tampering beyond basic file maintenance popped some form of tamper seal that made your phone brick with a 1003 error. So no you could not roll back because Boost never released a kdz and with a tamper proof bootloader we could not generate one. The T-Mobile and Metro version could be unlocked, rooted, and romed. That one had 2 gigs of ram and a 16gig rom. So no not confused you are just late to the party. (Also I owned the phone op and I were speaking of, hard to be 'confused' when starin at it.') The one you are speaking of was just released this month to the prepaid markets.
Sad to read no rom for the LG stylo 2
yup, it's 2017 and still literally nothing. guess this phone is "left out" and no one seems to have this phone to experiment on it and root it.
Hi. Bought a used d850, got a few questions.
I'm running lollipop 5.0.1. Is there any way to upgrade to marshmellow without an at&t sim? If no, what's the best way to get a sim if I'm located in canada?
Secondly, how do I go about rooting this thing? How stable is the most stable marshmellow rom that exists for the phone?
Cheers.

CyanogenMod is your best bet for stability now and no you don't need a sim card. Just Google rooting 5.0.1 and once rooted your good to flash CyanogenMod 6.0, you HAVE TO FLASH 6.0 GAAPS with it as well. Google all this and you'll do well, good luck!

Got a bunch of outdated results when I googled "rooting d850 5.0.1", any chance you can link me to an up to date guide?
Also, how stable is the latest cyanogenmod 6.0 when compared to stock android 5.0.1 that I'm running right now? How stable is cyanogenmod compared to lg based roms? What's the most stable lg based rom?
Also, some other questions. Is the d850 missing any features that the other lg g3 variants have? How do I go about making those features work?
Well I'm on an lgg3 850 running CyanogenMod 6.0 it's stable. If you like stock rom then stay with stock. Not sure if you could OTA without a sim card though.

No there is not sadly. Cheapest way is a go phone sim or H2O sim if you can get ahold of one.
There's no root for MM.

Yes, just won't have the LG phone or any of the LG apps, CyanogenMod has plenty though, YouTube CyanogenMod. No there's no root for MM you'd have to flash back to Lollipop gain root then flash CyanogenMod after you root Lollipop. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3249803

Sry if im taking longer to understand this than usual, its my first time.
So if I want LG's Marshmellow, I have to get my hands on an at&t sim and that way I'll never have root access. The other way is to downgrade to kitkat, get root access, then get android 6.0 cyanogenmod/fulmics. Is that a correct understanding?
What features of lg get disabled with cyanogenmod/fulmics? Does the camera work fine? Does the battery life last as long as stock?
Also, another question i couldnt find an answer to - does my d850 have qi wireless charging? Can it get qi wireless charging?
Cheers.
