So I got myself in a situation..
I broke my Nexus 5 so I sold it, but I want to factory reset it because of data security, however I have TWRP installed which doesn't work with using the volume rockers and I can't connect with ABD either because USB debugging is off and I have no way to put it on without using the touchscreen...
Any way to reset it to factory defaults? I tried apps like Androidscreencast but they require ADB too.
Please help

I assume that's the menu you get when you hold power+vol down? I can get into it.
I'm gonna try connect to ADB while in recovery, thanks!

Why don't you just flash the factory image while you're in fastboot.

No, just boot into the bootloader. Look in the general forum on how to flash a factory image

What do you mean it's still stuck? Why won't you just flash clockwork then flash a rooted ROM. Much simpler.

Well my power button is broken so fast boot thinks its always being pressed for some reason and that makes it not work :/ its frozen and the volume keys don't work. So that's why i can't flash anything. I'm wondering if I can root my phone through adb so then I can just use ROM manager to flash a custom recovery.

I already did all of that. I turn my phone on with my volume keys and turn it off with the search button. I opened my nexus too and the power button isn't stuck :/ I'm just asking if there is any other way to root without using fasboot. Or if I'm able to install a custom recovery without fast boot

Well I think you can boot into fastboot via adb command. Then flash clockwork. Then boot into clockwork via adb command.
Hi all,
I need help, after I use nexus root toolkit I turn my phone to recovery mode now my phone is not able to start. Can someone help me how to recover my phone to normal?
thanks.
Y u use toolkit ....
Cannot start as in how? Do you have fastboot or recovery access and where does it get stuck at? Have you flashed a factory image?

1) This should be in QA
2) You shouldn't use a toolkit, this being one of many examples of why not to
3) The solution: As long as you can get in to fastboot (power and vol down), use this method to flash the factory images and a custom recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312

I bought a Nexus 5 from someone and everything was working fine. I brought it home to flash another ROM and when I downloaded the zip file and booted into recovery, Team Win 2.6.3.1, I erased everything like I normally would but didn't realize this recovery wiped everything, the ROM on the root of the drive and the OS. So now I have a phone with no OS. I tried downloading the ROM to my laptop and mounting the phone over USB but it's not working. Any suggestions guys?
Two options, push a rom onto the device or side load it or flash the factory image

Push it using ADB? Do you have the command I would type for this?
Where can I find the Nexus drivers? I wonder if that's why it won't mount through recovery?

If you used the tool you should have adb on your pc. Find which folder adb.exe is. Download any rom zip file and put it in that folder. Open a command window in that folder, shift right click on it and a pop up window will open where you can open the command window.
In the command window use adb push your rom.zip /sdcard/download. That should put the rom onto your device. You can then flash it in your recovery

I've tried this but it seems without the phone being mounted nothing is pushing to it.

If that doesn't work then boot into twrp and go to advanced, adb sideload. Then from a cmd window type adb sideload your rom.zip

I appreciate your help but nothing works! This is so frustrating.
ADB sideload is enabled on the phone and it's waiting. I typed in the command to push the file and nothing...
I also have an HTC One M7 that will not adb push roms to. This phone works fine though. It's the Nexus I can't get a ROM onto the sdcard.

Thanks buddy. I was able to flash the stock image from Google. I'm surprised none of the ADB push commands or sideload would work. Now I'm unrooted but that's fixable.
Hi all.
Can anyone lend a hand to help me get my phone rooted again? I had originally rooted it when it first turned up, by using the guide on these forums. Since then I (stupidly) did the OTA upgrade not thinking about losing root. I went from 33r to 38r. The first I knew was when Titanium back up wouldn't back up.
My problem is that neither of my computers (desktop - XP) (Laptop - Windows 7) will now see my phone. They will both make a sound when connecting via the USB cable but neither of them show the phone via My Computer. I've un-installed/installed the drivers again and I have tried putting the phone in Fastboot and clicking on Unlock Bootloader, via the Toolbox V3, but the phone will only "reboot" to the home screen. I'm needing a bit of help from someone who knows what they are doing
Thanks in advance for any help... Foz
Once you unlock the bootloader, I don't think you need to unlock it again. If you lose root after an OTA, I think all you need to do is reflash superuser from recovery. And don't touch those toolboxes. They don't help you learn to solve these problems by yourself.

If re-downloading the zip doesn't work you should try a newer SuperSU version.

I think your problem may be that when you installed the OTA, you also clobbered any custom recovery that was there. Next time, uncheck the option to install recovery.

no flash twrp or any custom recovery in adb and then you can flash the root zip.
I'm following this guide for rooting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 .
I'm assuming that I'm doing things ok to a point, as the CMD prompt is saying adb version is 1.0.32 but when i put the phone in fast boot, and type "fastboot devices" the phone will show up in the cmd prompt. Its when I "fastboot oem unlock" and"fastboot reboot", the phone will reboot as normal. No setting up of the phone. All my apps and settings are still there, indicating to me that something is wrong :/
I'm assuming that my drivers are ok otherwise I wouldn't be seeing the above in the cmd prompts but...
Can someone tell me if my mobile should show up in "my computer" ? it has in the past, but no longer does. and I'm wondering if this could have someing to do with my problems??
Thanks again..Foz
If your rooted, you have already unlocked the boot loader unless you relocked it. Did you? If not don't worry about unlock and flash custom recovery and flash supersu zip

All you need to do is flash SuperSU again. It's normal to lose root during an OTA update.
EDIT: didn't read properly. Have you gotten TWRP to flash yet?

I'm (wrongly) assuming bootloader needed unlocking again after the ota update because twrp would not install again. I assumed the whole phone needed all 3 processes to gain root again.

The bootloader shouldn't lock again unless you do it yourself. The recovery (unnecessarily because you can uncheck the 'update cm recovery' option in Developer Options to keep your custom recovery) and root (no way around it) are lost during the OTA but the bootloader should remain unlocked. What response do you get when issuing the following command?
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
Please paste the results here.
