[Q] Location's modes - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I noticed in 4.4.2 when I turned on location, my previous choice was the one that was enabled when I turned it on. For example, I always chose 'battery saving' mode, so when I turned it off and turned it on again, the option was the same: 'battery saving'.
Now in 4.4.3 when I choose 'battery saving' mode, use what I want, turn it off, when I turn it on again android automatically chooses 'high accuracy' mode. Is that correct? Is there a way to make android remember my last choice when I turn location on?
Best regards,
Ricardo Ucha

[Q] Power saving through Tasker

I consider our Tablet to be different than a phone, in the sense that when we turn off the screen, we dont need all the background functions still running. Currently I see TF101 deep sleep battery drain caused by many different functions running in the backend...for example the location services api.
I was thinking of creating a Tasker script that turns off as many different things as possible a few minutes after the screen is turned off.....And turns them back on when the device is unlocked.
I didn't want to spend time reinventing the wheel if this has already been done....
Anyone already try this? Results?
thanks.
I decided I was over-thinking it...and went with tasker scripts to
a) Auto Turn on Airplane mode when the screen goes off
b) Auto Turn off Airplane mode when the device is unlocked.
(This involved using the "Secure Settings" plugin app to allow Airplane mode via tasker on 4.2 JB)
So far the results have been good. i don't see those map api's being called during deep sleep.

Location access

This is something I've noticed recently.
Whenever you turn on location...it keeps giving you a popup notice asking permission for "location reporting".
This can get quite annoying , not sure why it can't just save the permission
Also the choice of location access level (high accuracy, medium, device only)...does not get saved either...when you turn it off and on again...it resets to "High accuracy"...when i only want "device only all the time".
Lastly...if you have the power widget (stock) and turn on and off the location from there ...it doesn't get turned off when you turn it off (from the widget)
Do you guys get this too ?

Turn Off Wifi during sleep mode

Hey guys,
I just need to know all the options available in HAM7 in order to switch-off the WI-FI whenever I pressed the lock-button or screen is off or phone in sleep mode?
However, Can anyone tells me how long does the phone needs to enter the "sleep mode" if it's screen timeout is set to 15seconds + all apps are protected "restricted" from (Running in background + Push-notification)?
Thanks

Hey Alex,
Thanks for your help, but i think there is already an option in the Huawei Ascend mate 7 phones for doing such thing but i can't really find it, the reason that i don't need to download any (Battery Saving Programs, that the phone is packed with the same utility too! called "Phone Manager") ,, it was working with me, but seems to be i done something (disable something or protect something "Restricting it") from doing it's normal function that i still don't figure it out what is it!
Thanks for your reply, I've tried this app and i wasn't knew what does "Smart WIFI" means until Now, so i would make it my last choice to download this app again, in case if i didn't find a way to manage it within the phone settings.

Unfortunately, I've the same options on "Never (increase data usage)"
But still the wifi is on, that means either the phone doesn't enter into sleep mode after 2-10mins or more or either it's not the option we're looking for!

Yeah, same here, I tested on 'Never' and I have the same result, so don't worry it's not from your phone, probably it's from the firmware I guess.
You can test the Smart Wi fi option from the Smart Battery Saver app to see if it works.

Yes, I did test the App once again, and it really does what it says PLUS it really makes a difference in battery life better than before!
Great App, I wanna thank you for suggesting this app to me :good:
Thanks Again

I'm on b120 also now and wi-fi doesn't turn off during sleep when I leave it to 'never' . But it's not that important, I don't know how much battery will save anyway

As you can see in the following picture it's my settings, without using the app "Smart Battery Saver" suggested by member in previous comments the device couldn't been able to Switch WIFI automatically, unless I use the app provided.
However, the phone was working properly but I don't know what happened to that option later on.
All my apps is restricted from running on background and app notification is restricted too, Sync is switched off. I wonder what eels remained.. lol
I found option to control Wi-Fi in the Viber application settings (you can see this option on the attached screenshot). May be you using something app like this?
And IMHO restrictions working only for automatic memory clearing if it's not enough for active application, but I could be wrong.

I found out if you want wi fi turning off during sleep do this: Go to settings - > WI-FI -> scroll down -> Advanced Settings -> Keep Wi- Fi on during sleep -> Only when plugged in.
I think this was the setting you were looking for. With this setting my wifi disables every time during sleep and reconnects automatic when i turn the screen on.

It seems to be doesn't work, I've tried it just in few minutes, and changed my display screen time-out for 15-seconds to go to sleep quickly, still it doesn't work after several minutes, so my question is for (How long does the phone consume from time to "enter sleep mode/device WI-FI switched Off") with your phone?

I think it must be in sleep mode at least 5 to 10 minutes. If you just turn off the screen and turn back on, the wifi will not disabled. Test it. Let the phone off for 5-10 minutes to have time to enter sleep mode. If you want to disable the wifi immediately every time you turn off the screen, the only solution is that app.

Location 'Mode' not sticking?

Can anyone confirm that when setting location MODE to "Device only" - that when you then turn the location toggle Off and then On that the location MODE for some stupid reason reverts to "High Accuracy" mode?
I like to use just Device only (GPS mode) as it is a good effort to preserve battery (why use 3 technologies when 1 might be enough.)
Nonetheless is anyone else experiencing this, or are you able to retain "Device Only" mode when clicking location on/off?
Anyone...?
1. Set mode to Device only
2. Turn location toggle off.
3. Turn location toggle back on.
4. Is mode still "Device only" or has it automatically reverted to "High Accuracy"?
You're right but this have always been like that on stock.

Thanks for checking.
I hadn't realised this on my previous Xperias.
Regardless this can't be by design. It's quite annoying.

Night mode in developer options....

New to the pixel 2 so I apologize in advance! So I'm digging the night mode option, except it always reverts to "always off". I want it on automatic depending on day/night. I've done some googling and came across, if you have dark mode on in messaging, it forces the night mode option to be always on. I've turned off dark mode in all the apps the have the option, messaging and YouTube. Now it always reverts back to always off. Anyone have any insight as how to go about keeping it on the automatic setting?
