[Q] Is it bad for the phone from doing often factory reset or installing custom roms - Samsung Galaxy S II Plus

As title says, is it bad for the phone from doing to often Factory Reset or Flashing a custom rom?
By the way i'm new to this Android world, and i know my question is kinda silly or whatever but just wanna make sure hehe cya around!

I think ur battery don't like it. And u got low change to lost efs folder when u flash roms

I don't really think it's hard on your battery. Resetting your phone after flashing is always a good thing, for it wipes the remainings of the previous ROM, thus minimizing the chance of recurring or any new bugs. Also, it's good for performance :]

That's a really silly thing to worry about. As long as you don't manage to brick your phone (very very low chance), it's fine.

really it's nothing to worry about
all you can see in battery performance changes, is that, the custom rom sucks up more battery

Phone turning off with costume rom?

Ok, most of us owners of this phone have the same problem. I was wondering, is any of the costume made roms make the phone act stupid like using stock? I don't wanna do everything and then having the same problem all over again. I wanna save the flashing process if the problem still is there and phone will turn off every 10 min, annoying! :/

CM7 has been updated 57 times and about to become a Release Candidate (which means we're closing in on a stable release). It is the closest Rom near perfection.
If your phone is restarting every 10 minutes then I would blame it on some software you installed.
+1 for custom roms.

SOD with stay awake checked

I just got a sod while my phone was charging, to fix this I have it checked to stay awake while its charging, but it still had a sod. This is the first time its ever happened with stay awake enabled, and my phone will not go a night without a sod without stay awake checked, but now it seems that even that doesn't work. Is there any other thing/way to fix this?

I'd try a different kernel.

Stock cm7 kernel, build 11/18. It hasn't happened since. But now all I get is dropped signals anymore. And I can't use any different kernel without running into overheating, insane battery drain, and random reboots.

That's really odd man.
Faux is the only kernel o
I have overheat issues with as its 1.5ghz by default, so I have to turn it down after flashing.
Could you please list the kernels you have tried?
there's lots in my thread, but you know that.

Well, maybe she's burned out from flashing,
If it was my phone, I'd flash completely back to stock. Make sure you use correct nandroid for your baseband. That brings another question, are you 21e or 21y? 21y fixed alot of issues with battery etc.
Anyways, go completely stock, than start fresh with nvflash recovery. I'd flash CWM 5.0.2.8. DONT use touch recovery.
Than start flashing your setup. Make sure you wipe everything with recovery. Wipe system for sure.
Choose one kernel, flash it as well. Than see how she runs.

Wipe her back to stock and start over.
I would.
Use titanium back up for important apps.
I'd go clean and let my apps download their data again though.

I don't even use titanium backup, since flashing roms I've never made it far enough in an app to save useful data haha, eventually ill do something to it.

The liquidsmooth rom never booted after install

After install of the LS rom, the farthest it got on boot up, was the "Liquid smooth" Logo screen. I went back and reloaded 4.1.1. What could I have done wrong

If there would be a reset involved , I guess I'd wait for a rom that don't have to reset. It' so time comsuming to bring the phone back to where you were. Not so much the loss of picture sor music , it's more of the emails and contact merging.
Unless you really feel it's worth it then I'll consider
Thanks
sorry to hear that about ur device but wouldnt it help u better to ask that question on that roms page,i understand ur problem but i dont use liquid, so best advice i can give is to get ur phone into recovery mode and use a different rom and before u add the rom wipe ur cache
4.2 ROMs are still in beta mode. Expect little hiccups when you flash them. OK took me a few times of flashing before it worked for me.

gmail should automatically sync contacts and emails unpon phone set up. (cant take more then 5 minutes)
also look into titanium backup for individual app data.
wiping data and factory reset is a MUST for installing new ROMs.
if you think you "dont have the time for it", then i highly recommend you stay on your rom and read comments from others using the rom to see if it is worth the reset or you could just give up and go buy an iphone.

Honestly, I just had to say this is absolutely not true in all circumstances. Yes you should do so 8/10 times, but I can say personally that I've flashed over another ROM many times with no issues. Granted usually it was a new build of the same ROM and never going from say 4.0>4.1.2 or 4.1.2>4.2
Best of luck, I had some serious issues with Liquidsmooth (via a clean install) so I dumped it but hopefully it works out for you.

Ok, I'll resolve to fact that the LS Rom is in development and I should wait for a true version down the road. . Due to the situation I went back to the stock Rom and re-routed the phone. Since then, any Google search or Nav search, I get a Google error that Google has stopped working. I'll get the alert but the program will still work
Any ideas on what could of happened? Before the LS install, I had the recent stock Rom ( 4.1.1- I535VRBLK3) and was routed with no errors
Also, has anyone seen a tether app that works with JB. It seems that none of the tether apps work. I've noticed that on web searches of other forums and from the comments from users of the GNU.org program
Thanks for any help
Yeah.. So when is it okay and not okay to wipe? Between updates on the same ROM sure...
But I feel like your just gambling another 30 minutes of seeing or not a wipe is needed.

So I should use the factory reset feature

Battery issues after rooting.

Hi I am a total newbie in android and rooting. So a few months age I rooted my s2 using an insecure rom 4.0.4 bvlph. afrer a few my phone started turning itself off even when battery is near 100 percent . when i turned the phone on again it started saying low battery. This kept happening a lot and it has now come to a situation where i can not use the phone for more than an hour doing anything. I have attachdd a picture which shows the battery drain and how quickly it happens. I have also attached a picture which describes my phones details. I was suggested XDA by a friend and was hoping that someone can point me to the right direction.
Many thanks for your help.

Flash a new custom rom..
And do a full wipe before installation..
If that doesnt work then there is something wrong with ur battery

Although if his battery wasn't having this problem before, it seems unlikely that it just developed exactly when he rooted.
Like they all said though, do a full wipe before you flash a new ROM.

It looks like that this rom Network and Wifi is eating up your battery the most. I would say its cause that your network signal is poor and your phone keeps searching for a good signal and that is using up your battery. You can try flashing a new rom as well as getting a new card (transfer the number to a new sim card).

Possible phone dying?

Wife's infuse running beanstalk. Getting issues where every once in a while she will lose all apps that have been installed and once it lost all pics/music/etc.... Question is: should I look at using our upgrade soon? I'm starting to think internal memory is starting to die...

mebby bad flash or rom corruption
back up your sd and take out micro sd
reset the phone to factory
flash gb stock..reset it in gb stock..run in stock without any micro sd..don't restore any data except google sync..see how that goes for a while
I was afraid you were going to say something like that. :crying:
Good side is that maybe the phone itself isn't dying.

it's a little work but shouldn't be too tough.
i my honest opinion, the best set up for someone else is prolly stock gb with zen's latest kernel (it has the later galaxy device wifi drivers that are less prone to wipe your battery)
unless of course, the phone user is a tinker that can learn to do things herself
