[Q] Little bit of Root? - HTC One S

Last week I struggle with root on my One-S (S4)
I have followed this thread and it went fine till "root" When downloading / installing TWRP .zip superSU it went wrong, because it is a update file http://download.chainfire.eu/446/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r3.zip, so I downloaded a older version, and then installed update file in recovery
Now SuperSU says SU binary must be updates and I can't update with file under TWRP.
So, now some programs say that I'm rooted and some say I'm not
Another problem is that I can't connect through USB anymore, I tried under win-7 win-8.1 and several PC, yeas I tried also several HTC drivers (it worked in the past with fastboot) In Recovery I CAN mount
WTF went wrong, and more important how can I get proper root
ROM = Twitedkat 2.5
TWRP 2.7

OMG !!!
I can't believe it, while writing post I tried to update SuperSU with update file, just like 7080120 attempts before.
Tried again and now it works like a charm.
I really can't understand what went wrong.
But.. problem solved

[Q] Did I root correctly?

So I got my 300T a few nights ago.
It's already got Asus's JB on it.
Wanted to root to use the SwitchMe app for multiple profiles.
I was able to get the system to see fastboot, and ran all of the commands. Was able to boot to CWM and install root-signed. When I was trying to reboot, it said root was possibly lost, asked me to fix it, i said yes.
When I open up the SwitchMe app, it just keeps trying to open a SuperUser window about 7 times, and then does nothing else.
Have I done something wrong?
SuperUser just says No Apps in List.
edit: tried to update SuperUser. It says "gaining root access.....fail!". Guess I'll try to install root-signed again. Not sure how I could've messed it up the first time.
edit 2: wiped cache and dalvik, installed root-signed again, same problem. SwitchMe says I haven't granted superuser permissions. SuperUser shows no apps, is set to auto-allow root access, and fails getting root access when running binary updater.
im pretty sure you have to unlock the bootloader
and go through some crazy process before you can root with JB
My tablet was running JB when I bought it. I unlocked and still could not get my tablet to root using CWM. On top of that, CWM would not make a proper backup. I highly recommend you switching to TWRP. I did, flashed a rooted custom ROM and haven't had anymore issues.
Many people are having issues with CWM. TWRP is definitely the way to go. :good:
1 wrong section
2 root checker app(s)
Well, what I did to root my stock using TWRP was to flash the root-signed in the CWM thread, but as this didn't really got me full root, I flashed the flashable zip from here, downloaded SuperSU from market, there then chose "update binary" and then I had root
I'm pretty sure flashing the root-signed of the CWM thread wasn't needed, but if you do this steps (need to be unlocked to flash a recovery, strangely recommend TWRP 2.3.1 or 2.2.2 for 4.1 ROMs and 2.3.3 for 4.2 ROMs (as 4.2 has this sdcard/0 directions because of Multiusers, 2.3.3 uses this directories too))
So what should work:
1. unlock bootloader
2. flash CWM / TWRP / MobileODIN installable ZIP: CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip from here
3. download SuperSU from market and there update binary (don't know how it's called exactly)
4. enjoy!
if you decide to use a Custom ROM, you just need to flash the ROM in TWRP and should get Root too with the ROM (as all of them include Root afaik)

Really Having Issues NS4G

Ok so I've had this phone forever, mainly use it to play games and stuff on bc im not with sprint any more im using a bionic as main device. But I have always loved to hack this phone with new ROMs and mods etc. bout four months ago Idr why but mine and my gf's were unrooted and I had to re-root them. So I got hers hooked up first to the comp, rooted, adb and everything worked fine I've had custom ROM on hers since. For some reason, I plugged mine in RIGHT after hers, adb wouldn't pick it up as a device for some reason. Now I finally am able to pick it up on ubuntu through adb and i've tested it I can push/pull/sideload etc, fastboot flash recoveries etc. I have flashed several recoveries today to try to flash su binary to root the phone and one recovery worked, IDR which it was because I renamed it to recovery.img but its some kind of touch recovery thats not cwm. that one worked for me to actually load after I flashed it, so I sideload flashed the su zip and on the log it went through chains' little messages and said the root successfully worked. i booted the phone and had superuser, but none of my superuser apps are working. i updated the app. still not working. I tried to boot to recovery, didn't work i get stock recovery. every other recovery i flash will NOT work when trying to boot to recovery. it only takes me to the error page where i can get to stock recovery. can ANYONE help me here. i need to get su working and get the device to where I can really load a custom recovery. any help from anyone will really be appreciated. i've been trying to get this phone flashable for a while. im getting frustrated, once again, like every other time i've tried to do it in past months.:crying:
ok so my problem is fixed. I guess what was going on is I didn't get a successful root by having to sideload & flash the zip through the only recovery that would work. When I flashed TWRP, thankfully to the gods of hacking and Android that worked. So in TWRP I was able to successfully flash the su binary and that allowed me to successfully root/maintain root. Through that my recovery stayed in place and did not go away. Through this I was able to flash a ROM, that being an old (not too old, back in the 2.12 era) and did not work efficiently, everything closed as soon as I opened it. So I found an old GB CM7 ROM on my sdcard and successfully flashed it and since it didn't have GApps I had to go through the browser to download rasbean and flash that. That worked well, although the OP had stated GApps was included and was not, so I had to get him to send me the rb version of the jb 12-12-12 gapps, and flashing that worked and fixed all my issues in that rom so...long story short(after a long story) I got everything working. So basically, for future reference, find a recovery that will stick long enough for you to get the su binary onto storagge and flash it.

[Q] Odin3: checkboxes are disabled

Hi there,
I got a brand new Galaxy Note 10.1 this weekend and tried to get my hands dirty on rooting it just yesterday. So I got Odin3, CWM and SuperSU, installed Samsung Kies and thought I were good to go. Unfortunately, after doing what some guides tell me to do, I'm still on official device status.
Before I go into detail: I had to manually edit the Odin3 INI file to force the device NOT to auto reboot after flashing the CWM - the checkboxes in Odin3 were disabled and greyed out. Can someone explain why and if that might be the cause of my problems?

Download a clean copy of Odin and install .
Auto Reboot is normal .

Thanks, but that didn't help either. Auto-Rebooting brings me back to stock, device state official. I tried to install CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip manually via CWM, but a reboot later it's still "official" and apps that need root access either run forever ("checking...") or freeze the tablet. But since this is getting off topic, I might be better off asking in other threads.
Thanks anyway!

Then you are not understanding instructions .
What is your intention .
Root or flash a stock rom .
Root via either method i posted .
Stock rom direct flash tar file via Odin.
ODIN flash is a tar not a zip.
Custom rom via a rooted phone with recovery zip file from ext sd card or sd card .

Come on, the instructions are pretty clear boot in Odin Mode, click a button in Odin, let it restart, finished. The SuperSU zip file is from another guide, where the tar-file didn't include it. So I tried to manually install it via CWM (I think it was 6.0.2.7 or 8), but that didn't work either. Whenever the device reboots, Root Checker Basic runs for a few minutes and says "Sorry, the device does not have proper root access". If it helps, I used this guide:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-cu...ly-root-fuer-anfaenger-n8000-n8010-n8020.html
Even though it's in german, the screenshots are pretty obvious.
Sorry never ever seen any method with those sort of instructions.Personally not a clue what they mean .
I have used two methods as posted to root note 4 or 5 times. Rooted standard Samsung phones with cwm and root hundreds of times without any of those instructions.
Even run one standard cwm root via Odin to allow a specific rom install followed by a reroot using TWRP this afternoon .

Thanks to Darkman, I finally got it. The problem was the current firmware update from Samsung. I reflashed with the version from January, followed his tutorial (like I did before - wow, after doing this 3-4 times, it certainly becomes second nature), and BAM, the device is rooted. Thanks anyway JJegan

Help with od3

Hi there. I went to recovery and wiped the phone and partition. Then i updated with the od3 zip file and then reboot the phone. Everything loaded up fine even though when it was installing there were a couple of errors with signature and something else. Anyway it stuck on the sprint screen then i rebooted it and everything loaded up fine. But the phone is not rooted. The thread i downloaded from said it was a rooted stock rom. Super user said it could not find the binary. And i used root checker and it said it is not a rooted device. I then rebooted again and the same thing is still happening. Im not sure what im doing wrong or where to go from here. Please help. Thank you.

Sony Z3 D6653 Root Issue

Morning all,
This is my first post, and I know this may have been asked a thousand times, however, I have searched the forum before asking this question.
I decided to root my Sony Z3, but have now ran into 'serious' issues.
I followed the steps to the T, or thought I did but now have a Sony phone that is stuck on the SONY load screen, and will only boot using TWRP and with only TWRP installed, and no OS. When I connect this to the pc, the only folder in internal storage in the TWRP folder, everything else has gone.
I managed to install Android Studio, the SDK, USB driver and also platform tools. I have also successfully installed TWRP, I also tried to install SUPERSU, but this completes in about 2 seconds if that, and then I'm back to square one.
Luckily there is nothing in the phone I actually need, no pics, files etc. But I have tried to install custom roms with no luck. They always fail, I can get as far as copying this to the phone, using TWRP to install, then it shows the no MD%5 file found, or that it's for D6603 or whatever.
I've clearly done something wrong, and I'm not sure how to recover this, if indeed I can at all. i'm assuming that since I can boot into TWRP, it is fixable, but there is no OS, and i'm struggling to install one.
Even though I think I have installed SUPERSU, when I re-boot it says your device is not rooted, SUPERSU is not installed?
Any help would be highly appreciated, and apologies if this has been asked a million times before.
Cheers
Jay
My suggestion... Use flashtool to install the official KK rom (currently at the office with not much time so this is gonna be quick).
Flash official non rooted Kitkat rom with flashtool.
Then you can follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056
Else, you can download a rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/d6603-5-0-2-flashable-stock-23-1-0-690-t3056361
I'm using the following one:
D6653_23.1.A.1.28_Customized_AU_SuperSU_XZDR2.8.14 thanx to @Space_pilot
Sorry I can help you much more at this time. Try downloading the rom and install it from TWRP, I'm using TWRP from here http://nut.xperia-files.com/ (download latest version)
Ok got to go... Good Luck, I will try to check this later...
