[SOLVED]Google Dialer disappeared - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I installed the apk for the 4.4.3 dialer...and it was successful...but my dialer is gone. Nowhere to be found. I can make calls through Hangouts and what not, but the dialer app is just gone. Unrooted. Any ideas?

Just go into Settings/Apps/All/Phone and click [Uninstall Updates]
It will ask you something like do want to "replace this update with the factory version".
Say 'YES' and you should roll back to your previous Dialer.
*The 'Phone Icon' will probably still not show in your launcher, but it should now be in your app drawer.

Derp...that did it...I feel smart. Thanks

[Q] No YouTube

My Nexus S is on 2.3.3 and I wiped everything on it so I can start fresh again. For some odd reason my YouTube doesn't work anymore. I see the app under manage apps & "all" but does not have an icon in my app drawer. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this?
Uninstall it and then re-download it from the market.

It doesn't even give me an option to. Under market and YouTube, I see the "Open" icon but its not highlighted. It won't let me open through there. You think downloading the same version of it and trying to install it would work?
Go to manage apps and then go to YouTube and uninstall from there.

Google Launcher

Hello all, I'm new here - but have been reading these forums for a while. I have a Google Nexus 5 running Android 4.4.2. I would like to disable the launcher (Stock KitKat launcher) so that I can have only the Nova Launcher Premium. When I was running Android 4.4 this was easily done - I simply went to Settings-Apps-Launcher-Disable. This option is now grey and I am unable to select it. Any advise would be very welcome. Thank you.

Hit the home key, select Nova Launcher used always and restart the phone?
Thank you for your reply. I have selected Nova as my default home already but whenever I revert back to the stock launcher its full of app shortcuts and mess from installs and uninstalls which is annoying. I find every time I uninstall something I have to go back to stock to clean it up. That's why I liked the option to disable the launcher as I didn't have to bother with it.

Anyone else got any advise on this please?

Launcher options?

Anybody know of any launchers out there that integrate Google Now? I'd like to customize, but I like saying OK, Google (as cheesy as that sounds)

Don't think it's gonna happen.
KK Launcher is the only launcher I have seen to incorporate Google Now in any way. It launches Google Now when you scroll all the way to the left, but that's it.

As long as you keep the stock setting of swiping up on the home key to access Google Now, you're really only talking about a second or two to access the "Ok Google" feature.
Additionally, if you'd like to have the mic aware and listening constantly, I'd suggest the XDA link below. This way, you can have that feature available regardless of which launcher you're running.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404613
From what I read, it's only the stock launcher that can have the active listening.
Only reason I read about this was because I googled why it stopped once I installed Nova Launcher.

Remove Voicemail app from phone

Hey all, does anybody know the location of the apk for the Verizon Voicemail app? I was able to remove all the bloatware that I wanted, but I couldn't find where the voicemail app is. I tried searching for "voicemail" and "vvm" using root explorer, but it didn't find it.

Thanks, but it isn't there. The icon still shows up in my app drawer.
Don't know what to say then. I've got it froze in titanium backup and that's the path it shows for it.
So I decided to load Viper and found the VVM.apk where you said it was and was able to remove it. Thanks, still not sure why the stock ROM wouldn't remove the icon though.
Check out my thread on getting Verizon visual voicemail to work!

I think it stays because its tied into the messages app... If you scroll right in the messages app there is a voicemail tab... Possibly whatever base viper is on doesn't have vvm tied into messages?

Right and you risk breaking bubble count notifications if you remove it too.

Google Dialer from Android N Preview 3 working on Moto X Pure Edition

Just a heads up this seems to be working again.
Got the apk from here:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...phone-3-01-08_rc8-android-apk-download/#notes
It installed fine.
Then just went to Settings>Apps and disabled the old Dialer.
Finally, went to Settings > Apps > cog button > Default Apps and set Google Dialer to default.
So far I have not seen any issue.
Please let me know if you find any.

Only the 2.5.11_rc8 worked for me, I believe they patched it after that.

This please.
Caller ID, it allows you to search for local bussinesses, block phone numbers and more.
Why does this one work on non-Nexus devices and the versions before didnt? Maybe they finally consider releasing it for all devices now.

Is it not just a Beta Version of this app?

Does it allow you to install if from play store?
Probably not.
Also, the other versions didn't install since they were suppoused to be only for Nexus and Google Play Edition devices.

Confirmed working here.
Looks and works exactly the same as 2.5.11_rc8 although there appears to be several changes in apk file.
How is this compared to http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...p-google-dialer-2-32-google-contacts-t3263859. ???
I think you need root for that. This app is latest(ish) version and has Call Blocking and Google Caller ID.
Previously you couldn't install this Nexus only Dialler on other phones hence needing root.
But this version escaped Google somehow and simply installs like any other apk. A day later they realised their mistake and made it Nexus only again.
It installed fine but cannot bring up the dial pad and cannot hang up a call. Not sure why it does this. Mxpe stock

Try to give it the phone permission under app settings. This worked for me.

Did you set it as default phone app? Had this problem when stock dialer was default.
Also try to disable stock dialer.

Under Apps / Phone / Notification, set it to Allow Peeking = Off. No Peeking helped me get better notifications on incoming calls.
YMMV
