[Q] XT925 Won't turn on after factory reset - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After getting a non-rooted XT925 from a friend, I went to erase all the data/content from settings and as soon as I clicked erase all, phone turned itself off and won't turn back on. Battery was fully charged, was on 4.1.2 firmware, and nothing happens at all when holding power and volume down, or power and volume up and down. When plugged into the wall or PC, phone won't acknowledge being plugged in.
Is there any way to fix this device? I can't imagine bricking a non-rooted or modded device by performing a simple factory reset. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the reply. Tried all of that before I posted and nothing worked. I ended up calling Motorola and they extended the warranty and are going to fix/replace the phone free of charge.
Still interested as to why this happened though.......

Dang, that sucks that nothing worked.. A factory reset should never brick a device. Motorola obviously knows it's their fault if they are replacing it! Thankfully you have the xt925, means you can still bootloader unlock!

[PROBLEM]Very bricked. Geeks needed.

Hi!
Today I got from my friend a bricked Desire S.
He said, he tried updating a pile of apps at once and it froze. He left it to cope with that and when he was back it was turned off.
When turned on it would stuck on htc logo. He read somewhere that he has to perform a "factory reset". I'm not sure what exactly has he done later (he did this with holding the volume up and power buttons and than there had to be, as he said, an option to reset the device), but the result is, that the device doesn't respond at all.
Nothing happens when connected to USB or charger.
Is there anything I can do about it?
Maybe force push bootloader with adb?
Please, help guys
Hi,
it doesn't do anything at all?
Power button?
Power button + Volume down?
Recharge battery?
Connect to a PC with properly installed htc drivers?
Remove battery and put it back?
Unfortunately yes.
Tried different combinations several times - once or twice the led blinked for like a half a second, but than nothing.
I have some flashing experience and I learn quickly. If You have ANY ideas, I'll try to make them happen.
I will try everything, as I have nothing to loose
Regards.

Whenever we see “And I was updating apps and it froze up.....” we have a suspicion we perhaps have another case of the eMMC chip packing in. At least he didn’t do a battery pull. Holding UP + DOWN + POWER has a similar effect to hitting reset on a PC. You can’t get to recovery this way.
With the phone off, hold just the DOWN + POWER. Does the phone then boot into HBOOT? (white screen with coloured text and little green androids at the bottom). If it does, great. You can choose RECOVERY from this and do a factory reset. If the phone does a series of (seven?) quick vibrations maybe not so good.
Search for “eMMC” in this forum to get plenty of people who had this problem, and how (some of them) have been able to fix it. Knowing what to search for is half the battle!
For example check this thread out...

Geek out!
Thanks for the reply,
I actually have tried entering the hboot few times - with no success.
It doesn't respond at all.
I've read about this chip, but I want to make sure there is no option to force the phone to enter recovery. Than I would probably know what to do next.
Regards.

Not sounding good I'm afraid. The last resort would be to contact HTC and try to get it repaired on warranty. They are very very aware of the problem, and once you tell them "I was updating all apps at once and it froze" they'll accept it as a known hardware failure. Like you say, you have nothing to loose in trying.
A friend recently had this, and sent if off to HTC for repair. As the description of the fault was a known hardware failure, they never bothered to test it first, so they didn't notice it had been rooted! It just went straight through to get a main board replacement. It took five weeks for them to return it though. Best fish out that battered Nokia in your drawer and charge it up ready!
Good luck!
Uh, these are quite bad news, but I'm pretty sure they will accept it on warranty, since my friend haven't done anything "illegal" with it
Thank You for Your fast replies
Regards.

Take out the battery for a few seconds and put it back; then while holding Volume UP (+) press the Power Button.
See what happens...

Nothing. Happens it don't light up or power on at all. It is not reconized on computer either. It's hard bricked.
Make sure the Battery is charging...
How can I make sure the battery is charging when no lights come on at all? All I do know is I had it plugged in for a while yesterday and it got really warm. But no lights whatsoever. The screen doesn't light up at all neither does the led.
??????
There are no notification lights on the D720, but when you plug it in with a charger, you should see a battery bar on the display.
Other than that, you are probably right about hard-brick.
I, luckily, never had a "brick" on the Nexus S, so someone else with experience may wanna chime in. But Google and YouTube are your friends.
Sorry...

Please help me, i have the same problem
been awhile since any action here. saved mine with JIG method once but this time it won't work ??!(why) , in search of a solution again! -> hardbrick #2 on this device!
You guys can try a USB Jig. If that does not help, I think JTAG is what you need.
Jesus... just to revive this thread (and this concept of hard bricking), I think I just accidentally bricked mine as well.
Here's exactly what I did:
One moment, it was working spectacularly - fully stock, but unlocked. I had just listed it on eBay, too.
So I ran a factory reset on it (from the Settings menu), also "erase USB storage".
Then, after it shut down for the reboot, I pulled the battery.
...
That was it. Now it doesn't turn on for anything whatsoever. No device detected on USB when plugged into PC. Remove, replace battery, hold VolUp+Power, nothing. Plug into power adapter, nothing. Nothing at all.
But the back does get lukewarm after a minute or so, as if it's alive in the head but frozen, unable to start the bootloader.
WTF? I also have 2 more of these Nexus S 4G's, and both of them seem to have Flash storage chips that exhibit the same behavior when their chips are placed in (this) working motherboard. They can't boot. When I try to "hot-flash" it by booting the bootloader then swapping the Flash chips, they can't flash anything (this is probably to be expected). So, if I can get my ONCE-WORKING phone back to life, there's a good chance I can get another working as well (one just has a cracked glass, otherwise working mainboard & peripherals).
It's old, yes, but it's a damn shame to E-waste these things for a stupid software problem like this!

[Q] All my buttons just stopped working!

Haven't changed anything on the phone at all today, no new apps or new settings.. About half an hour ago all my buttons stopped responding. Power button, volume rocker don't do anything. Strangely enough, holding the power button still restarts the phone, and holding the volume down button at the same time still gets me into fastboot.. so clearly it's not a hardware issue.
Also, plugging the phone in doesn't register that it's charging.. however if I restart the phone while it's plugged in it will register that it's charging, but unplugging it will still show that it's charging. I've obviously restarted the phone several times already.. any clue what this bizarre issue could be?

Pretty strange issue. I agree and think your best bet would be to try and restore a backup if you can. Hope everything works out for you!

I'd fastboot the factory image and if it still does it, rma it
They started working again after I approved the 13 app updates or whatever it does to the stock google apps after first boot

OnePlus One super hard bricked?

Hello, I was flashing cm-11.0-XNF9XBS28K-bacon-signed on my opo and something went wrong on recovery, it was like rom flashing went wrong and it didn't happen, so I went to wipe and I'm pretty sure that I selected everything in wipe section, literally everything and hit the reboot button, and my phone won't wake up, no response, tried to press buttons in every combinations for maybe 1 min? My computer won't recognize my phone, nothing happens, no vibration, no sound ;x I think I erased everything, but is it possible to delete bootloader that way? Btw my battery was charged to about 90%.
I tried charging in for about 14hs and nothing happened, phone and charger during this time were cold. I tried to recognize it by Windows 10/XP and Ubuntu but no reponse from phone, so I coulnd't use this magical method with qualcomm port and drivers, and then this Color. Is it really bad hardware brick?
Have you tried this thread by any chance? Hopefully it works. Worked for me when I bricked mine by flashing hydrogen

Can you try long pressing the power button for 10 seconds or more to turn it off. Then long press the power button and connect to a PC and see if it responds

Ok I will try, but I tried before some combinations with buttons and connecting to PC, now I'm testing "dead battery" so 12hrs without touching and 6 hrs charging and then unplug and plug again. But I'm almost convinced that it's something with mainboard I talked to OP and they said that they will exchange my phone If it happened during flashing Cyanogen ROM.
//Still no respond from the PC and phone. Completely dead.
Dont worry, they wont know u had twrp if the phone is hard bricked. Just carry on your RMA process. Good luck...
Today's remote session went as I thought will be, did almost everything as this technician. Now awaiting RMA ticket.

:good: Used this thread twice now and it saved my phone. Give it a shot.

Black screen boot loop

I was trying to root this phone so I unlocked the bootloader.
I went on twrp and selected A9 only to realize after I flashed that there is a difference between the a9 and a9s and now my phone is just not booting and is stuck in a black screen boot loop.
If I connect it to a computer it will connect for just a second then disconnect which makes me believe it is not 100% dead
What happens is that it will vibrate connect to the computer for around a few seconds then it will disconnect and then 10 seconds later vibrate again and repeat.
Model is 2pwd200
I cannot do anything such as get into bootloader or download mode. I even tried adb and fastboot but no connection
I've had a bootloop like that before. For me it worked to power-off with volume button up + power. Then power-on with volume button down + power. I was able to get into download mode that way and flash the right boot.img (in my case...)

Doesn't unlocking the bootloader void the warranty?
So if I send mine in, would they charge me any money for it or should i live with the fact that i turned the phone into an expensive vibrator?..
Ty anyway!

With the live chat person they i told them that it just stopped coming on and it only came on sometimes, I asked them what would void the warranty and they said broken screen or liquid damage. I never told them that the bootloader was unlocked. They did say that if there was physical damage to the device they would charge me £27 for it but there isn't so I am going to ship it tomorrow.

I managed to find a way. Every time I plugged the phone into the power adapter, the phone only vibrated every 23 seconds. I decided to leave it for a few days to complete exhaustion and after connecting the power supply for about 2 minutes blinking orange LED. After 3 minutes the phone normally switched on. However, when I tried to restore the factory settings again, I had a black screen. I left the phone again for two days and this time I prepared a SD card with the image from the link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0r...g5UkZucWc/view
I changed the file name to 2PWDIMG.zip
I started it with the VOL- key and loaded the image. After flash everything works fine.
PS.
Every time the first time I started the phone, the touch screen did not work, I had to restart my phone and then the touch was working. After flash image everything is ok.
This may help you.

You may want to try this, I will if the warranty thing doesn't work out. Credit @looqpl
So they sent the phone back and it is in fully working condition, they relocked the bootloader for me as well and they seemed to have also replaced the frame which had some scratches on it.
