G1 highlights: Android OS
HD highlights: Super 3.8" screen
A good video comparative (Page it´s in spanish): http://www.xataka.com/2008/09/24-htc-touch-hd-y-t-mobile-g1-en-video
G1: Android and Capacitive Touchscreen, along with hardware keyboard
HD: Superior Processing power, WM Customizability, AT&T (maybe) release, and styling. I really wish it had a capacitive touchscreen though.
any ETA on the HD yet? and is it gonna be affordable..to us "commoners" ?
or am i gonna have to dip into my 401k for this sucker?
and am i the only one who thinks the 480x800 WGVA, and 5MP cam is the sweetest thing since sliced bread?
Why is there always a competition thread between phones? The G1 is supposed to be a start for google. . . . and it didn't do so well. Whats next a HD vs iPhone?

There is one question that has got me stumped. . how would I play dpad games? V-Dpad? Like we saw on the newest review? Since there is so much space, would that be the case?

It's not the worst, its mainly a media phone that has a strong and stable media player. . . . It wasn't made for what every wanted it to be apparently after apple made it, so don't go bashing please. . its just a regular phone with some advanced features . .
No I am no fanboy, but everyone bashes everything just because everyone else does it too. . . Look at the facts. . the apple fanboys are gonna bash this too with a similar remark towards the BlackStone.

What will the Apple fanboys bash? The fact that it runs on WM? Yes, but at least everyone will acknowledge it's failings instead of pretending everything's rosy in the garden like all Apple "enthusiasts" do!

I never said it didn't have flaws. . . .
Thats prabably one of the targets . . lol
I know, the lack of a real keyboard and D-Pad will be a pain, no multitouch, and no complete tactile feedback(latest pre-pro features bottom touch sensetive buttons with tactile feedback). . .there are some others but whats the fun of finding the flaws, then it makes the phone less "wantable" and then we expect to much out of HTC. . .

I actually agree with Tito here. I'm no fan of iPhone. But you have to give credit to where it's due. iPhone has dominated the American market, not so much the European or Asian markets. You can say that has to do with Apple ability to strike better deals with Phone Service Providers, but you also have to acknowledge that Apple has found themselves a niche market, the portable multimedia market, and has managed to be the frontrunners on that market.
iPhone is essentially a multimedia phone and for it's main purpose, it is "awesome" so to speak and so far WM based devices has struggled to compete with iphone on that front, despite WM more functionability.
The fact that HTC has launched HTC Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Diamond, Touch HD, sort of tells the story of how HTC has faired with WM against the iPhone.
Now one question remains, are HTC devices worst than iPhone in terms of hardware, or HTC is losing ground because WM is just not that good of a program? After all HTC, Omnia, X1 all had to create their own version software UI to make it more "user/finger friendly" for customers.
I for one believe that iPhone is a better multimedia/phone device but because I'm not that much of a multimedia buff, I prefer the all encompassing functionability of WM, which gives me all round advantage.
Now back to the question of HD or G1.
I really have no opinion and I think it's just too soon to make a comparison, as most people have not used the google android yet.
If we talk about hardware then I guess HD is much better than G1, but if we talk about software then G1 has no grounds to compete because it's an enigma still?
imho then unless one really love android then HD will be batter the first g1 imho is ½baked
no teething, no adsp not alot of 3th party progs yet
cant be found without a contract....
but it shows promise
hope sooner or later it will wake the sleeping wm

I'm not sure that Apple have found a niche market. The market was already there but they have been able to exploit it better because of the hype created by the iPod. But let's be honest here: consumers are dumb. If you give something a nice shiny cover people will buy it and that's exactly what happened with the iPod when in reality you could have bought a PPC to not only listen to music but watch videos, play games, surf the net, send emails, etc, etc.
It's no surprise that Apple followed up with a video iPod, iPod Touch and the iPhone. They simply took advantage of MS's inexplicable unwillingness to develop WM into something it could and should have been years ago.
And yet, just like the iPod the iPhone lacks features that could really make it a killer device for EVERYONE. As a techical business user who is also a mass market consumer, for me it's missing 2 fairly essential features: a decent camera (to take spontaneous photos of my son) and the ability to connect it to my laptop to access the internet.
The problem for me is actually a wider one in that no phone on the market does everything I need it to. I want:
- the UI of the iPhone
- the 5MP camera with Xenon flash of the Nokia 6220
- in-built voice navigation of various Nokia devices
- the flexibility of WM
- the inbuilt storage of the iPhone
- the size of the SE XPeria X1
Is that too much to ask? I don't think so but it seems that every manufacturer is reluctant to make such a device when the technology is clearly already out there.
I prefer the HD becase of the hardware specks, the large screen and slick design, also like many others I am windows mobile fan...
G1 design is ugly, they should came with something more slick than this (it looks like the device was made back in 2006 - i am talking about the design)

Yea, but not everyone wants a PPC, they see the iPhone as an easy to use thing that is made by apple(consumer's brain thought: Oh!! Look apple made it it must be good at playing music and junk). I prefer WM because of all the options it has and the more personalization you can do. I would like your idea too, but I wouldn't want the UI of the iPhone simply because as more commands and options add in, your fingers will be too big and its simplistic nature goes away. The UI is successful because it is so restrictive(not too restrictive) and lets things run the same over and over(WM can do the same thing it just depends on the hardware and software support). IDK, I had an iPhone, I loved it but it got stolen and then I realized that I should go back to WM because of the way it works and the freedom it has.
BOT:
I think that the G1 is Google's tester phone to see how far android will go with a simple phone. This will be Google's trial and error. . .

not bashing bro I own the iphone 3g too if you want i can show you pictures of it next to my diamond. but trust me mate, you cant get a great community as xda devs for iphone. My iphone looks crappy in front of the diamond fully moded. about the blackstone it is gonna be a 100 times iphone killer.
ok, my x10 was just returned to me on warranty and the new one i can't hear on the speaker and it's not getting good reception at my work. so i am exchanging it, again, for something else with att on an early upgrade. but not sure what i want this time. need something cheap or free. my options are:
xperia play
captivate
focus
htc surround
inspire (refurb)
impulse
my previous devices have been:
x10a + nexus S
g1
e72x
iphone 3gs
iphone 2g
8525
8125
2125
now with the past few years being android, all of my contacts, email, calendar, etc are through google services. i could easily convert them over, and i really want to try something different other than android. i would really like a wp7 phone.
my only requirements are:
good camera w/ hd video recording
good music player
turn by turn
google maps like functions
loud ear piece and ringtone
i'm at the point where i don't really want to mess around with flashing and cracking anymore. just want it to work and go.
really considering the focus.

no seriously get an iphone, that's why they are famous
already had 2 iphones. don't really like them, certainly do not like itunes and i want something different.
It seems Apple is in the lead of this whole patent war nonsense winning against HTC for patents of things like clicking numbers and maps from a message, although HTC has pledged to modify their devices to remove any sort of infringement things just aren't looking good, I mean the iPhone is a nice device and everything but I can't imagine being trapped in that box Apple puts people in, Although HTC makes a great deal of Android powered phones its obvious the main Target is Android itself, The way things are going Im just wondering will there be a future with the Android we all know and love
I live in New Zealand. I just saw a major electronics chain advertising android phones for $109 (about $80 USD). This is in a developed, but isolated, country. Android has a future!!!
Lol it'll be fine since there are still plenty of educated folk around who don't buy Apple s***.
^SO true. Well said.
Why is Apple doing this????? We android users will cut and eat Apple... Long live Android....

Unfortunately, in singapore, not many people is buying android phones. Reason? All iPhone/iPad users in singapore think that ALL APPLE products are the best, THE END.
And that is very sad if u own a android phone here. Example: Get a SGSII or Sensation XE in singapore and u tell your friends that your phone is better then the iphone and they keep coming up with rubbish excuses.
Sick and tired of this idea that iPhone is the best, cuz its NOT.
Pls samsung or htc, come up with something that will kill the iPhone.
Yes, but one has to think what if HTC cannot sale anymore phones in the US, that's a large collection of Android devices, I would guess Samsung would suffer here aswel, and Apple are just a bunch of sleezy sons of b%?#*$
The SGS2 kills the iPhone, the sensation, the rezound, all kill that little thing, in all fairness the iPhone has good build quality that's all Apple does is makes things look good, what can the iPhone that Android cant? Not the case vise versa people are just being blind all we need is a good looking device that's feels like its real and not plastic and then we win everything

The injunction only applies to HTC phones running android 1.6-2.2. Gingerbread, honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich are not affected, so it is hardly a set back.
heck even Gingerbread 2.3 are unaffected
which is basically all the new phones since late 2010 LMAO!
Ok now Apple has just been awarded an app switching patent, this is not good and states my point that things aren't looking up for us
Funny enough, I still don't fully feel that (at least Samsung phones) Android has that true comfortable multi-tasking. Holding home, for instance, bring up a recently used menu rather than currently running. Going to main screen, then to task manager, then to an open app of choice is a little clunky IMO.
So IMO, Android needs to adapt that true alt-tab style way to browse actually running apps. Nokia had this for ages.
If the Android is so much better than all the others ,then why even care about them ??

Because Apple knows Androids better so they're trying to sabotage it by this patent war to restrict us from the way we use our device and even keep manufacturers from selling them, that's seems to be the plan anyway

Honeycomb and ICS changed this ...there's a app switching button
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yea the app switching/task killer is fantastic in ICS. I use it all the time. Great for quick multitasking. You swipe to close kinda ala PalmPre style (they swipe up). Notifications can be removed one at a time CM7 style (swipe to remote).
Apple iOS doesn't hold a candle to Android functionality. You can start to see this when the last Apple update stole most of it from Android. Split keyboard, pfft. Notification Center, pfft.
IMO, let them keep pulling the best ideas from one another until they are both the same great product.
Next iOS update = iWidgets
The future of Android is 3rd pace behind WP8(or whatever the next version will be called) and iOS unless Google can solve the performance and update problems plaguing Android. Android fans can cry all they want about Apple and MS suing various Android OEMs, but fact is Android infringes on a million patents and "open" buzzword isn't a valid defense in the court of law. Android was originally designed to mimic Blackberry until Schmidt realized that iPhone was the future and now Google is working on ripping off WP7 people hub features so I wouldn't be surprised if more lawsuits are ahead once ICS becomes more popular.
iWidgets lol, but I wish Google had a patent for the notification bar Apple clearly ripped it off of android all while they claim vise versa, as for the wp8 comment I think the real argument deals with apple, seeing how wp7 was never really popular, well from what I know, people seem to favor what they know over then what they don't, so IMO wp8 would be number 3
Before I start a kickstarter project to convince a developer/hacker to try to and do it, I'd want to know if it's at least possible. WP7 has seen many great hacks and tweaks (all thanks going to the wonderful devs) and this would be one I'd pay to see.
BTW I'm talking of the Klipsch s4i (or any iPod remote headphones) and I want to see volume as well as play/pause. Is it possible?

The earphones that came with my Samsung Omnia 7 had this, but I lost them
Hi guys,
Is any chance to connect my Lumia 950 XL with Samsung Gear S3 ?
Phone: Microsoft Lumia 950 XL (Windows 10 Mobile)
Gear: Samsung Gear S3 (SM-R760)
Thx
Bardo
A Windows Phone and S3 bluetooth only model is a completely useless combination. The watch requires pairing with a phone capable of ruining n Gear Manager. The app is only available for iPhones or select Android phones.
The LTE Frontier (model SM-R765) has basic functionality independent from a phone if it's eSIM is activated on a carrier network. You can use it as a watch phone by itself or continue using your WP and remotely connect the S3 to a dedicated Android phone on a WiFi network.
I'm in the same boat. Longtime Windows Phone/Mobile user, but fell in love with and bought the S3. I used the S3 with an iPhone for a while but have gone back to my X3. I have gotten the S3 to pair with the X3, but without the Gear app, it has no means to interact with the phone. With the next release of WM10 adding more Bluetooth functionality, there is hope. The more interest there is from the community, the greater, however slight, the possibility they'll throw us a bone. With the demise of the MS Band, there is something of a captive audience. In spite of what the nay-sayers want, WM is going to be around for some time to come.

Im in the same boat. I refuse to lower myself to using an Android device and never will i EVER own a Crapple. Ive come up with an interesting fix for the Band 2, mainly because its the BEST smartwatch out there, and they were stupid to not refine it and continue with it. I found this thread cause i was looking to see if someone hacked it to work with W10 or not. Fitbit is a lost cause, i actually owned a Blaze for 2 days before i found out they lied at the MS Store (and on the FB box) claiming compatibility with Windows 10 and Lumia 950. They allow it to pair, and thats it, no notifications which you have to do a fairly DEEP search into their forums to find out! They wanted to blame MS for not including a GATT server cause apparently, thats the ONLY way to communicate with a watch and a phone. Um, tell that to the Band 1, Band 2, Vector Watch etc etc etc... liars. I just wish WinMo6.1 was available on a Lumia 950, that would be the best, talk about high end device!

Ford didn't invent the assembly line, either. He just made it widely known. The first assembly line was invented in Vermont for rifles with interchangeable parts. You're batting a thousand, dude.
