Hi guys,
my phone's charging pin is not working. I am unable to connect any charger properly. It is happening with 3 chargers and a usb cable. So, I need to replace the pin. But, I have no idea where to get it done. Suggestions please?
Also, is it possible that I can fix this problem by myself (maybe it is just dirt issue)? If yes, how do I proceed with that?
Okay, so I bought new charger, got the pin changed, and still the same problem. My phone doesn't charge while it still displays "Charging". It doesn't matter whether it is connected or not. It just says "Charging". I have done two clean flash, and same issue. Heck it happens even with DDLF2. So, I am out of ideas.
Someone help me here. My phone is a brick for past 2 days now.

holy hell. that is pretty much useless then.
If i were in your situation i would search Ebay for that part (Charging board).
And if possible with the tools including everything you need to disassemble the device.
If you're not experienced with phone repairs... Dont worry.
Check this i9003 Disassemble Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UW4T-aNkQY
The video shows that there is a Charging part.
Search for that part or dead / damaged devices.
Replace it and you're done.
If you want to go the hard way...
There are charging ports for 1$ or 2$.
If you have the proper tools its easy.
If not there are other ways. But it's very risky.

Thanks for the help. I did asked mobile repair shop here, and they are expecting 100rs.(less than 2$) to replace the part. Turns out it is pretty common part and is almost always of same specifications.
Okay, so the socket/pin was not the issue. There was some water damage to the assembly itself. We tried 3 different sockets, and all resulted in same issue. But, replacing assembly itself was cheap enough. So, finally my phone is back and charging fine. :victory:
Good good and good again. Another SL didn't bite the dust.
Cheers

Hi all,
The mini USB port for charging and connecting to PC has come loose on my Tornado (i-mate SP5)... I don't really know how it happened (possible jolting in my pocket while running?) but now the thing can't charge or connect or anything. It seems the actual USB casing has come loose and the things inside can't make a connection to charge - err, I don't have the best technical jargon, please bear with me
Ever since I upgraded to 6.1 my Tornado has been my best friend. I'm loathe to buy a new phone (after all the blood, sweat and tears that went into upgrading) so I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem... I could easily take it to a repair shop (I guess), only I'm in a foreign country that doesn't make HTC and the coffers are low... I've managed to take the thing apart to an extent (struggling with the last two screws under the battery compartment), but does anyone know whether taking it apart will actually allow access to the USB area so I can try to fix it?
Please help me if you can!
Thanks,
Jessica
Well there is always a knight in shining armor to help D I D
Any ways , i had the same problem too, while connected with cable my phone dropped and USB port became loose, if you have managed to open the casing and pull apart (clipped togather) both plastic front and back than you can see the board and the usb jack. Mine was completely soldered off . I opened the set completely and soldered it back. ( Added benifit i cleaned dust particles of LCD Screen) OR you can take it to any mobile repair shop where they will be happy to charge you and repair the mobile.

Here is a guide
It'll take a little wiggling around with a Credit Card or similar thin hard plastic to split apart the covers(See #6 on the tutorial, don't use a screwdriver or nothing metal), but be patient. It'll split. First time I opened mine, I was scared to death, now I do it just to kill bordness. Beware of a little connector between the motherboard and the keyboard plate(#7 on the tutorial). Just pry it off gently and when assembling back, make sure you push it back firmly into place. Feel free to message back if u need help.

You had a broken Mini-USB port and you solve the problem by Hard Restting your device? ummm Don't think so mate. A little soldering might help ;->

most likely you will need soldering. Take the phone with you to Sears. They have the screwdriver. But I believe it isn't a T5, I think its a T6. You can go to any electronics shop and have them do the soldering. Shouldn't cost you more than a $5.00 tip.
Thanks i never knew this guide existed i worked on unproven grounds scratched my phone a bit , thanks any knowledge is always welcome.
Soldering...
Um, don't solder this yourself without a heat sink. I melted the entire USB assembly when I tried earlier this year, so now that phone can only be charged by removing the battery to charge (which is ok for a backup phone) but I can never update the OS again (which is not).

You can still update the OS by copying the OS file to a miniSD card and change file name to TORNIMG.nbh and boot the phone holding camera button for bootloader and follow instructions.
well, finally got round to soldering, i hope it works...
gents, thanks for your help and i guess i'll be posting here in a few minutes when the damned thing still doesn't work
I used circuit board glue with partial success
I had the same problem with my Tornado. I tried soldering, but the soldering iron I used is old, and the tip was too big to be precise enough to get the job done properly. Or I just suck at soldering. Not sure, but anyways, I ended up using some fast-acting circuit board adhesive from Radio Shack. The phone will charge now, but will not connect to my PC via USB. For now, it's fine, as I already had upgraded to WM6.1, and haven't needed to do any further OS upgrades, and I don't really need to do any email or contact synchs via USB, but it's still kindof annoying. Also, my speaker seems a little static-y and muffled since the attempted soldering. I think I might've damaged a circuit that relates to the earpiece somehow. I guess the moral of my story is be careful when soldering if you don't really know what you're doing. Not that it isn't common sense already...

I don't think so. I have tried naming the file TORMING.nbf and TORMING.nbh on multiple Tornado devices, with multiple miniSD cards, with and without SIM cards, in various states of registry unlock, and superCID unlock. I can't make the phone's bootloader do anything unusual. If you want to give me specific steps I am happy to try again.
yes, kkrull is right. I also tried but not working. I think it is not that easy.
Hi, I have an ATT Galaxay Note 3 that won't turn on. I repair phones so I was checking to make sure everything inside was good and I stumbled upon this. I compared it to another note 3 that was also GSM and it did have this component so I believe this is what's causing the problem. Now the issue I'm having is that I don't know what part this is and where I could find it. If anybody could shed some light and help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. I'm new to the forum so if this is the wrong place to ask questions I'm sorry.

Sometimes In new revisions of devices they add or in this case remove components for various development reasons.
I am fairly certain that this is not what is causing the device not to boot. If it had been accidentally removed it would have done damage to the board or there would have been a piece of the capacitor still left. The only way that component could have been removed is if someone with precision desoldering kit removed it.
Can you elaborate on "won't turn on"?
Doesn't power on or show signs of life

When the power button is pressed the phone does not vibrate or show any signs of life. It does not respond at all when it's connected to the computer. The power button has been replaced and it has a new battery. It does absolutely nothing when the power button is pressed. Any guesses as to what the problem might be?

It's possible that the device may have been hard bricked before it was given to you to repair. Since you mentioned your repair phones have you tried using JTAG to bring the device back to life.

I have not used JTAG bc I don't have a RIFF Box. I repair issues such as cracked screens, Water damage, and internal replacement parts and in some cases lcd connectors and battery ports. I also do a little but of software based stuff but no JTAG. Is there anyway to find out if the device is hard bricked or not?

If the device doesn't vibrate at all, no LED, doesn't power on, can't access download mode (In your case since it's a Samsung device) or recovery, and doesn't respond at all when plugged into a computer, you made sure the battery was charged, and the device had adequate power, that usually means it's hard bricked. JTAG is likely the only option at this point.

Where could I find a good RIFF box and how do I use it? I know you have to solder some pins but how do you know which ones? Any knowledge on the subject would be appreciated. I have some basic knowledge on the subject but enough to start attempting these types of repairs. Thanks in advance.

A good box for JTAG is the RIFF box which you can find out where to purchase one from here. For which pins you have to solder the RIFF box has a feature which allows you to test which pins are which on the board that you need to solder. I would also highly recommend checking out this series of video tutorials, as well as this video on a HTC Wildfire S being resurrected as it gives some what of a tutorial on the process involved. Another possibility that may or may not work is a jig, what the jig does is it forces the device into download mode and you connect it to the micro usb port on the phone, you can purchase a usb jig from here.
Does it have to be activated

I checked out some RIFF boxes and I was about to buy one when I noticed a warning about "activating" the RIFF box. Does this mean that if it isn't activated it won't work? Does the RIFF box need any updates and if so can I update without being activated?

I'm not a an expert with regards to the RIFF box, but I believe it will still work without being activated but you won't be able to use many of it's features such as the official downloads on the RIFF servers and other important features. As far as updates are concerned, you should always try to use the latest RIFF box updates as each update adds support for more devices and other feature updates. More information about RIFF box licence activation can be found here.

Last question... I've also seen some connectors that claim to connect to the RIFF box and to the board. They're purpose is to avoid any soldering on the board. They just connect to the pins and to the RIFF box. Are these cables reliable? What are the pros/cons? Will I be able to use them with any phone model? I believe they're called JTAG Molex cables but I'm not sure.

I have no personnel experience with the molex cables. I have heard from others though that they do the job well and are reliable, and I believe you can use them on almost any model. Sorry I can't provide you with better information, I only have a little experience with JTAG.
So, yesterday, I'm just lounging on the couch, readin' on my OG Nexus 5 (from 2013, mind you). &, BAM !! Just turns off (with about 40% battery). So, I'm thinkin', "Ok. I'll just force a reboot..." NOTHING !! So, I plug it in... NOTHING !! I'm talkin' NO LEDs, no charging indicator, no NOTHIN' !! Can't access recovery or bootloader. I believe it to be a hardware issue, whether battery or some board, idk. So, what do you all think? Replace the battery? And, If it is dead, I'm out of luck !! Because, I have a good amount of research that I hadn't backed up yet. Btw, I'm no slouch, so I've tried every button combo, etc. Neither, do I believe it to be an internal power button issue.
Running rooted stock 6.0.1 MMB29K, stock recovery, franco.Kernel r79, SuperSU 2.66-BETA
Thanks !!
Mod Edit: please don't bypass swear filters
I suggest charging the phone using the original cable and charger that came with the phone. Leave it on the charger for about an hour to see what happens.
Yes, it could be the battery but it could also be something else. I assume you don't have another Nexus 5 to test it with.
Try to disconnect and reconnect the battery's wire. I had a similar problem and it was solved by doing so .

By this, do you mean the long L-shaped one? Or, the smaller connection at the top of the battery? Because, I had disconnected & reconnected the ribbon, but never removed the battery, as I lack that li'l blue tool in the iFixit video.
Well, the battery will be the cheapest unless you can quickly score a used N5 with a damaged screen and working internals.

The small connector not the long L shaped. I think the L shaped is for the speaker and some other components in the bottom of the phone and not related to the battery.
You don't need the blue tool to remove the battery. Just heat the battery with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive. Then, take a a flat blade and gently slide it between the battery and frame. Slide and gently pry the battery away from the frame. I have done this several times on N5s and never had a problem.

Ok. So, I had gone ahead and disconnected & reconnected the battery connector to no avail. :\ (Why do bad things happen to kinda sorta, in a way relatively good people like myself?.. smh) Any other advice?..
So, I'd decided to stop being a cheap BASTARD and ordered a "Genuine OEM Google Nexus 5 LG D820 D821 2300mAh Battery BL-T9 3.8V 8.74Wh" on amazon, sold by YDT Parts for $6.49 (Free Shipping from California) if anyone else is interested. That price is really good for a genuine oem battery compared to prices from etradesupply.

I KNOW, RIGHT !? Hopefully, all that I have is a dead battery. Guess I'll see soon enough. Now, if only there were a way to get a fingerprint reader on this device, I wouldn't update till the N5's no longer updated. (What's the official term for that, anyway? Not EoL, is it?..)
Let's hope it is genuine. I bought one from Aliexpress that looked just like an original but people said it is not an original because the temperature would not go above 29c. I don't know if it is original but it's works fine.
Well, got the battery and NOTHiNG !! So, idk, maybe my N5's just dead. But, the supplier might as well have been from China - Typos, terrible English, the whole 9... Also, my OEM battery's by Sony, but this one says Samsung, so who knows?.. :: shrugs:: I don't trust these companies anymore. Thanks for y'all's input, though.
So not LEDs, no vibration, nothing?

Today I noticed that galaxy s6 won't charge anymore. Tried different cables and chargers.
If I move charger cable a bit it, 'charging logo goes on' and nothing else. Also somehow I managed to turn on the device but it showed 0% and after couple sec it went off.
What could be the problem? Charging port or battery ?

Mine did this a few weeks ago until I blew into the charge port and then it was fine. It didn't really look that dirty so I was surprised it worked.
If you already replace the cables it must have something in the USB port on your phone, try cleaning with a thin pin, it helped me more than once.
Thanks guys for your replies. I took the device to the warranty service in one of the European countries, they checked and refused to fix. They said that there is a corrosion inside the charging port. As it is my brothers' phone I cannot confirm if the phone was wet or something. The best part was when I went to the service she plugged in with her charger and phone started to charge, but I still agreed to check the phone. Think you've got 2 options here, if you are capable of taking apart the phone you can see the level of corrosion and see if you can clean things up or take it to a 3rd party and get the charging port replaced.

I think for the time being see how it goes, maybe what happened is when the charger was inserted at centre it may have worn away some of the corrosion on the pins when the contacts rubbed against each other, but long term id look at getting it replaced.

You have to becareful with anything that's liquid based, as it could possibly cause a short so becareful with that.
The lg and s4 would have been a lot easier to work on. I've had a few lg phones apart since they always break on me and their one upside is that they were very easy to fix.

Your device should've been under warranty why did you have to replace it

I’m assuming you performed all the correct diagnostic procedures before swapping the battery? (Factory reset, rebooting etc.)
Doesn’t make sense to me that you just decided to change it when it would’ve been clearly covered under warranty, could’ve borrowed a device from someone or used an old device until you got it repaired by Huawei
The only thing I can think of is do another hard reset/factory reset, if it still does the same thing, then I would just look and see if you made a mistake somewhere while replacing the battery other than that can’t really give you any other solution, kinda screwed yourself up at that point, not to sound mean but I’m just being honest, a simple warranty repair would’ve saved you the headache
Where exactly did you buy the battery? I had a hard time finding an oem battery for the mate 9.
Im about to replace my screen, so I bought new screen, and battery cover. Was looking for battery. Everything I found was fakes or third party stuff.
Sounds like it's a dodgy battery or power connector? Retrace your steps through the procedure to make sure you have followed everything. You may have missed a connector off or something. Let us know how you get on and what the solution was.

This is easily one of your best bets for a replacement battery:

Maybe the battery is faulty! I replaced mine with 3 battries 2 were fakes and one is close to the original, but didn't have any issues.
