Hello , I would like to pose a problem " atypical ".
I need to use an android phone only the date / time stamp, GPS, NFC reader , the GSM network (only to speed the search for the position ) , a wifi network (only for my one application installed on the device) .
Basically I need to remove almost everything from an Android phone (call , browse, update , install / use applications other than the default, access to wifi networks other than the one set , take pictures , watch videos / listen to music and so on) .
Let me clarify the operation expected : the user turns on the device and my application start; the device is switched to standby ; when require, user unlock the phone and obtain some information ( date / time, GPS position detected) ; put the phone to a NFC tag , it reads the data and saves informations in local ( automatic operations , without human intervention ) ; emission of a sound of completion operation ; standby until successive readings ; when returned home, phone identifies the wifi network and exchanges data with an enterprise server . Nothing more.
I ask , is it possible " clear " an android phone to not allow any function different to the above ?
(sorry for my english)

Are you making an app or are you making your own os that would do only the above things??
If you dont want call and all those functions you could go to the root of rom to /system/app and delete the apks like phone call storage sms related thing ( to remove call and sms) to delete browse delete the browser apk
and delete the certificate installer or package installer apks to remove installing function etc
HIT THANX IF I HELPED:laugh:
Yeah you can go to system root #with es file explorer root or system.root and then delete call and all other apps from System/app. And delete their data from system/data and then reboot. I think that icons will somehow show up(u can hide them) but the functions will stop working. Hope It helped

Titanium Backup Pro allows you to freeze apps (disable them and they typical diaper from your drawer. It also allows you to back up and remove it.
I'd go this route as you just start delete stuff with out knowing whats going to happen then who knows, at least this way you can disable it first and see if your OS is stable.
very useful tip
for many but not for all!
your suggestion (test before remove) is valuable.
thanks to all.

I have a POLA100 with windows mobile 6.1 (anime rom 2.0 french) and android installed on ext2 partitions on my SD card.
I'm having heavy troubles making all the thing work.
When I install with polymod rom (2.1g) almost everything is working (exept camera for example) event wifi, but I can't install apps with the market because of "not enough space" ... wait a second, each ext2 partition is 1GB ...
When I install with an other rom, I can't have wifi (I don't use any data connection), so it isn't really usefull ...
And I don't want to remove windows mobile, cause windows allows me to use all of the capabilities of the phone (camera ...)
Is there any way to get my android market to work properly ?

In fact yes, that works I just tried it yepee
But, so the the eclair builds are not working on a pola100 ?
So, no eclair build on pola100 ?
And for the warm donut, it looks like the camera definition is lower then on WinMo, i.e : with the barcode scanner, it's all blury and the phone can't scan a 2D barcode.
Normal ?
New day, new problems.
I don't know why, but since yesteray I have heavy battery bugs.
I.E : the battery is going down very quick within android (50% in 2h) with almost nothing activated (no wifi/BT, no gps, no data connection, no sync and apps killed with task killer), and when I plug a usb cable, it doesn't charge.
Can somebody please help me ?

Thanks Alexander for the camera fix
For the battery, I haven't tried your method, but I note it in my mind. I restarded on WinMo, where the wifi was activated, I de-activated it and run haret to reboot on android. Now the battery is charging.
I'll check if it drops down quick again.
I'm looking at the battery info, the average temperature of my battery is 35°C, normal ?
Well, I think I found the problem : I often run TaskKiller to reduce the charge on the processor, but it kills the battery update service, I just had to except it, now I know when it is charging.
But anyway, it android seems to use more battery then WinMo, normal ?
Hello, me again ! ^^
I was searching on my phone an option to enable auto-completion when writing.
Well, it works, but only for English ... and I'm French.
It seams that I don't have the French dictionary (not bundled in warm donut ?)
Is there a way to installer the French word dictionary on the phone, or must I absolutely use one of the non-free keyboard available on the android market ?
I've also seen that the HTC-IME keyboard looks pretty cool, but there is no version available for our phone, is there ?
[EDIT] I just tried AnySoftKeyboard, with includes a French dictionary, nice ! But for the HTC-IME ?
Htc ime...go with every language but it´s a long way....
Start....:
Installation Instructions
1. Install both HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk.
2. Rename/remove the file /system/lib/libt9.so (I suggest renaming to libt9bk.so). You need root permissions to do this (the program Root Explorer works great.)
3. Menu -> Settings -> Locale & text. Enable 'Touch Input'.
4. Go to a text field and long-hold until a menu pops up.
5. Select 'Input Method' and then 'Touch Input'
1.1 Download the latest htc ime from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
or here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
2.1 make the system root/write access to change the name of libt9
- open terminal
- type "su"
- type "mount -o remount,rw /system"
... and then I could rename the file w/ Root Explorer (must be root explorer..i think)
3.1 change the language: look here:
http://ostebaronen.dk/changing-htc_ime-language-to-danish/
a bit easier: change to htc ime...go to sms and long press on the input text...now a menu come and you can change....
go in a explorer to: data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/shared_prefs/com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml (now visible)--and copy it to sd card...
open the xml and change the language code (like in the link)....copy it over the old one....
please do not change the lang setting in text input settings...(you don´t see a lang in this box now)
i think it was all
edit: for the correct view: change to 120 dpi....and take my corrected dialer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676102
Now it´s all...i hope
Grah, I killed android.
I wanted to change the dpi to 120 with rogue tools, but It did something wrong and the density got to 160...
I searched on the forum and found a androidupdate for 120 with working wifi, set it and ... no more android boot ... Oo
Since then I tester many android update for 110 or 120 dpi with or without wifi, and I never rebooted...
I guess I'll have to install android again.
For further crashes like this, is there a way to create a backup of the system ? .... hum since I'm on a ext2 partition on the sd card, maybe just copy the file to my pc ?
[EDIT] Since I'm going to reinstall the whole thing, I saw that on Myn's Warm Donut main page there is a 480*320 version downloadable, but it can't work on our phone, can it ?
Sorry Alexander, i'm here again.
1st, I could not use the HTC IME cause I can't do this :
2. Rename/remove the file /system/lib/libt9.so (I suggest renaming to libt9bk.so). You need root permissions to do this (the program Root Explorer works great.)
Click to collapse
I cant set the folder /system/lib to read/write with Root Explorer, so can't delete the file ... And can't test the keyboard.
2nd, I used this TOPIC to boost the sensitivity of the screen on WinMo and it gets realy more reactive, is there a similar fix on Android ?
You need to use a terminal ie better terminal to make the filesysytem read/write
su "make's you super user"
mount -o remount,rw /system "makes filesystem read write"
you can use Root Explorer to rename now "the safe way" or
rm /system/lib/libt9.so "removes file"
thanks, it's working now !
Sorry, here I am again.
Recently I lost the data connection on my phone, no more internet with edge (or 3g, is there a way to active/see what type of connection is used ?).
I tried rebooting the phone many time, activating and de-activating wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode, nothing.
I saw a "modem" application, where it seems I can disconnect and re-connect the data connection, I says "data already turned on" but there is nothing to do ...
Any idea (again) ?
Can somebody help me ? I tried by changing the connection configuration in wimno before launching harret, activating auto 3G, enabling or disabling the data connection, but nothing work, android doesn't connect anymore on data. The modem application says that data is turned on but i have no IP.
Please help.

Have you tried APNDroid...? with this you can set data connecion on off...
just tried apndroid, with the widget on "On", mms "On", notifications "On", de-activate all apn "off", it doesn't change anything.
I tried to de-activate and re-activate the data with apndroid, but nothing.
Will I have to again re-install Android ?
Wow, I got it to work again, I had to re-create an apn with the correct configuration to make it work.
But anyway, thanks for all
[EDIT]Ow no, just one thing, I have the data icon with a "E", it means that i'm connected with EDGE (2G), no ? Is it possible to activate 3G ?
An other question, totally apart, is there a plan to port android 2.2 to polaris. Cause it seams that it is much faster than all other versions.
can't turn off edge/2G/3G
i have an acer liquid e, and when i set mobile networing off , the E of edge networking still stands in the status bar.
help me please
Plenty of apps restart your mobile data connection by themselves. For example, Lookout switches your data on when you start your phone, which allows blocked apps to bypass DroidWall when you reboot.
The only sure way to switch your data off is by renaming your access points with apps like ApnDroid, Quick Settings or Widgetsoid.
Good reply, rogier!
You can also try to reboot your acer, and see if it was a minor bug! Sometimes, its as easy as that
i have ZD-box and the internet useage meter alway's say's 0 mb used.
am i safe now?
i rebooted plenty of times, i was starting to think that this means that there is Edge/2G/3G connection avaible.
Wifi Codes for Android 4+
What I'm Doin?
This application allows you to change your phone's wifi country code ( which is set by your simcard ), to be able to see wifi networks on all channels. This application also helps people who can't see any wireless networks while the simcard is in their phone ( like me ) which is again caused by the bad country code.
What I Need?
1.You have to be rooted.
2.Anything else?
Ok cool, How To Get?
You can get the application .apk from here : http://d-h.st/bi2
I will be uploading the application on the market by the time the beta period is over and I'm sure that it works fine on every phone.
Ok gotcha, How To Use?
1. First make sure that wifi is on. ( will be fixed in next releases )
2. Open the application, and put in your desired country code to fly to!
3. You can see 2 main country codes which are already there for you, feel free to use them if they meet your needs!
4. Click `Change It`.
5. Now if it's the first time you are running this application, you will be asked for root permissions. Grant Please!
6. Now If everything goes well you will see a message which says that the country code is changed.
7. Go on and turn off your wifi and turn it back on.
8. You will see all the networks showing up.
Note:You don't have to do this every time the phone boots up... This only needs to be done once. Unless you factory reset your phone.
I can't see any wireless networks
It is caused by new android 4 roms arriving to the devices ( mainly htc phones ) which use some carrier and country specific files to set Wifi Regulatory Domain options ( which was present in wifi settings until android 2.3, but been removed from android 4 and later roms ). If your country code seems unknown to android system, then it fails to set right options and it fails to intiate wireless scan.
To solve this all you need to do is to change your country code manually to a known one, so that android system can determine what channels it should scan for networks.

This application is still in beta section, and won't get to final releases without the help of you guys.. Feel free to post here if you faced any issues while working with the application.

Guide for AOSP / CM / AOKP / Original TW-based Roms, every Stock-ROM with root, nearly every Custom Rom
Works on:
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S2
Samsung Galaxy Note
LG 2
Sony Xperia
HTC One
nearly every other Android based Device incl Tablet`s with Android Jelly-Bean or KitKat
One of the most annoying things is the battery consumption of our devices. There are so many Apps in Play Store but most of them are " a Fairy tale"..
There are different ways to save battery. you could under volt your cpu, disable mobile date.. disable synch ect pp...Since 2010 i play around with different Android devices and here is an easy way to save battery. My way will automatic change to the best settings WITHOUT any undervolting, CPU-Tweaks and you will always be able to send and receive data.. I tried different setups, while normal use.
My definition of normal use:
Samsung Galaxy S4
30h of Power ( Mahdi 01/11 KitKat Rom ART active, KT-Kernel without any tweak)
GPS-Navigation with Google Maps for 42Min
Calls about 58:35 Min
Whatsapp online (all the time)
FB Messanger Push on
FB
Kaiten Mail push active (wrote some Mails)
13 SMS sent
Audiobook via PowerAmp 120 min
Screen on for 5h
Location-Sevice and Data always on
76h of Power ( Mahdi 01/06 KitKat Rom ART active, KT-Kernel without any tweak)
nearly the same use
with "automatic Airplane-Mode from 22:30h - 9h
If you follow the steps your phone will:
Switch GPS on if you need it and turn it off
turns HSDPA+ / LTE on when you are not connected to an WIFI-Network and you turn the screen on
Switch HSDPA+ / LTE to 2G when your Screen is off
turn the screen off when you are not looking at the screen
turn the Screen off when you close the S-Cover ( Samsung Galaxy S4 on EVERY ROM)
turn WIFI on if you nearby a known WLAN-Station and off when you are leaving the location ( no matter how many "known" networks with automatic localization " Cell")
switch to 2G and turn of mobile Date if you connected to any WLAN
close apps when screen turns off ( FB or any other app.. its up to you)
before we start you need:
Jelly-Bean 4+ or KitKat ROM 4.4+
Samsung Galaxy S4 ( don't matter wich version) or any other Android Device
root ( custom rom is not nessesery but will make some things easier, i prefer Mahdi with KT-Kernel)
Tasker ( Play Store " 2,99$ ")

Guide for TW-based Custom-Roms ( Echo-Rom,...)
First of all is: You need a custom rom TW-based e.g. Echo, Omega, ( be sure to use the right modem to solve 4.3 TW-Based Rom`s failure of losing data-conection while screen is off)
1) go to Google Play Store and instal Tasker
2) go to Google Play Store and instal Secure Settings (Pic 1)
3) launch Secure Settings and instal Helper 1.2.3 ( Pic 2)
4) Open Tasker and create a new task e.g. "2G off" choose plugin " Secure Settings" ( Pic 3)
5) Scroll down to " LTE" and mark " toggle" and save ( Pic 4)
6) Save Task and make a second Task with the name e.g. " 2G on" with exact the same settings
7) Use my Tasker Settings and change Task form " HSDPA off" to your Task 2G off and "HSDPA on" to your Task "2G on"
Have fun.... cheers

It would be nice if you will do a video tutorial to it,

But so with a TW ROM is it not possible to switch 3G to 2G and vice versa? Is it only possible to deactivate data traffic?

i believe u got it the other way around, hdspa off --> 2G on and hdspa on --> 2G off
one question though, if i still choose to use ur task, can i use it instead of changing it?
i'm using a TW-based custom rom
thx

I hope i understand your post correct...
The difference between CM / AOSP / AOKP and TW custom rom is, that you are able to choose directly 2G on/off ..for example:
On CM / AOSP /... you could use Tasker to switch directly without any tool ( e.g.Secure Setting ) between the different network-modes. take a look on picture 1- 3
On TW-based custom rom, you`ve only the choice to " toggle" ( with tools like Secure Setting) the network-modes. This means that you coulden`t define exactly the network-mode! You are only able to toggle the mode for example :
You are on 2G/WDMC/LTE the next "modus is "2G"... so if the task starts it will toggle from 2G to 2G/WDMC/LTE... if the SAME task runs again it will toggle from 2G/ WDMC/LTE to 2G...
You could use my " Taker settings" from first post but you have to change the task "HSDPA on" and "HSDPA off" to "toggle" like I explained it on post 13...

It would be nice if you will do a video tutorial to it,

Yes and No... you could toggle the network-mode ( root + custom TW-Rom like echo-rom, omega-rom,... + Secure Settings)
Please take a look at post #18

Hello
I am using latest .93 firmware and i have noticed strange thing: something are turning on data transfer and then disable it.
My data trasfer is turned off, after disabling i hide the notification "data trasmission in cellular is turned off" but after some time when phone is inactive the notification appears and seems that i got charged by using data.
The monitors doesn't show any info which app using data transfer.
Are You experienced this ?
Is there any way to check logs which application enabling data transfer / how to block it ?
Seems even if i block cellular data for any app the connection to network is made and few kilobytes pass through.
Do You have any ideas ?

I don't have that problem at all I'm on 33.2.A.2.93 myself, is the background data turned off for each and every app go to settings data usage and click on each and every app in the list for data+WiFi and set the slider at the bottom to the on position. The notification you get to say that data is disabled that looks like a small globe will come and go on its own anyway usually when you wake up the xa it's how it is it doesn't mean it has actually used any data it's to remind you it's off
Have you also turned the Bluetooth+WiFi always scanning for connections Inc when they are actually turned off. Go to settings location and tap the three dots top right turn both sliders to the off position.
This should stop any background data being used and won't effect the way any of the apps work

+1 sometimes !
The bluetooth, wifi, cellular(agps) location helpers are OFF.
Trying for now not to disable all cellular data(the switch to block all traffic) because i am trying to indentify app that cause problem.
I get used to manually turn on and off cellular data and would like to keep that way with this phone.
'thing' that turn on data make me nuts.
"small globe notification" appeared once in last half day - t-mobile app says usage of 200kb but Data Usage Monitor does show nothing
I think that issue depend on signal strength.. Always when back from basement which is located underground i had that notification about mobile data.. Also in forest, when signal is gone or rly poor.
But had no idea which app is responsible for that. Also trying few times turn off notifications in random sys apps and nothing so far..
The beggining of the end...
The telegram app shows notifications too, strangw notifications, why? The app is not listed on the detailed ps list, is not running anything related to telegram, ate least the unrecognized service that poped up the notification.
This is new method they are using.
Is not online, but the notifications is poping up.
Called as Multidex odex(or dex from the app) and cached secondary-dexes provided by them when we last tine was online.
We ended and closed the app, but, the secondary dexes are in the Memory opened
Someday i was searching why my apps are all closed , but the ram is sluggy and filled?
This is why.
Preventing yourself agains these new kind of apks before installing.
This may contain virus.
This is destroying the cpu and the ram.
These secondary dexes processes are hidden, and unkillable (unless i root and forbid services)
Nothing is turning on the data.
The cached dexes are running in hidden background, showing the notifications that was not readed when was the app online.
This is a serious damage menace.
I disagree with this, after i discovered this, now, i am denying packages with Multidex inside.

I forgot to mention:
Imagine:
I am running a newsapp, with fully adblock in action.
They will search a "V".
They creates a temporary secondary-dex, when my installation id is on line reading their news, the cached dex is , for exampling: deleting my pictures, uploading something mine to their servers, deleting musics, corrupting files, etc.
due to the secondary dex is updated periodically... on cache, free for do what they want do on my device...
They found "V" Vengeance
Because i am Ad blocker
Only because this.
This is why the RootCloak was created.
To hide root and commands that some apps runs in hidden background
I tried search how to forbid this Multidexes apps.
But untill now, the solution is
Not install.
Check the package before installing and read the Manifest.xml about the multidex version.
If no multidex tag found, is safe apk.
Remember the Quadrooter.
They may creates a secondary-dex for destroy the gpu easyly.

Yes, you are right! I have checked that.
That notification reappears when i lost signal and get it back. Appears also when i turn on airplane mode and then switch it off.
So nothing actually switch on cellular data BUT ...
i found what cause the problem
it's localization
I have it enabled BUT helpers are switched OFF (wifi+cellular) and bluetooth but it still using AGPS.
When i use app that use localization - for example speedtest app (using wifi) then localization icon appears and a moment later two arrows (up/down) appear on gsm signal.
so the question is :
How can i disable AGPS ?? (settings -> localization -> three dots -> scanning -> both options are OFF)
Please someone check if You have same problem (turned agps off and using app with localization and celular data disabled you get two arrows on gsm signal)
EDIT: The mode of GPS is: only device. Note that evey switch off and on it defaults to best accuracy.
When i make sure it's only GPS (agps disabled) and helpers are off and run speedtest with localization it STILL using agps
BUG ?
The OS itself downloads data too, even on rooted.
100 per month going where ?

Yes but android OS doesn't use data traffic when data traffic is disabled.
AGPS does
Solved
Problem was resolved by SONY's support:
Selecting device only will not disable assisted start on the GPS. It only disables location by WiFi, mobile network and bluetooth.
What you can try is to go to Settings -> More -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names. Here check the APN type on all your APNs. If you have "supl" on the APN-type, try to remove this. Then turn off mobile data or connect to WiFi and see if it still uses the mobile network.

Apn type says - default, supl. But there is no way to change it.Its greyed.
I think the only way is to dissable 4g (when not using the phone or when wi fi is active) , and remain on H+, for me its free. And that way will not lose my 1 Gb quota.

I have exactly the same issue. When I clicked on the APN type, I got a free text box and I didn't know what to type in. In the end I deleted the APN. This obviously means that I can't use mobile data when I want to. This is very frustrating and seems like a bug. Please post if you find a solution...
