Wifi Codes for Android 4+
What I'm Doin?
This application allows you to change your phone's wifi country code ( which is set by your simcard ), to be able to see wifi networks on all channels. This application also helps people who can't see any wireless networks while the simcard is in their phone ( like me ) which is again caused by the bad country code.
What I Need?
1.You have to be rooted.
2.Anything else?
Ok cool, How To Get?
You can get the application .apk from here : http://d-h.st/bi2
I will be uploading the application on the market by the time the beta period is over and I'm sure that it works fine on every phone.
Ok gotcha, How To Use?
1. First make sure that wifi is on. ( will be fixed in next releases )
2. Open the application, and put in your desired country code to fly to!
3. You can see 2 main country codes which are already there for you, feel free to use them if they meet your needs!
4. Click `Change It`.
5. Now if it's the first time you are running this application, you will be asked for root permissions. Grant Please!
6. Now If everything goes well you will see a message which says that the country code is changed.
7. Go on and turn off your wifi and turn it back on.
8. You will see all the networks showing up.
Note:You don't have to do this every time the phone boots up... This only needs to be done once. Unless you factory reset your phone.
I can't see any wireless networks
It is caused by new android 4 roms arriving to the devices ( mainly htc phones ) which use some carrier and country specific files to set Wifi Regulatory Domain options ( which was present in wifi settings until android 2.3, but been removed from android 4 and later roms ). If your country code seems unknown to android system, then it fails to set right options and it fails to intiate wireless scan.
To solve this all you need to do is to change your country code manually to a known one, so that android system can determine what channels it should scan for networks.

Known Bugs
1. If you run the application when the wifi is off, then you will face issues and you will need to restart your phone. ( I'm trying to solve this, but I believe it's nothing with my application, it's an android bug )
2. You Say!
About Beta
This application is still in beta section, and won't get to final releases without the help of you guys.. Feel free to post here if you faced any issues while working with the application.
Hey
I just want to say thank you. I have been faced with this problem and it has been driving me bonkers. I've been trying to run scripts to fix, have tried wifix and others .. File permissions on wps_supplicant. All no luck
But your app here seems to be working. No more reboots and wifi has locked on for half an hour. Looking very positive
Thanks again
WiFi
Well might as well give it a whirl and see. Will let you know my findings and recommendations
MAC address
Does this country code change affect the MAC address on my device ? I have applications that are sensitive to the MAC address and if this address is changed, it will cease to work. Otherwise, I want to try this ASAP. I also noticed that some of the wireless networks will be seen in the discovery, but I cannot connect to those. Can this country setting change fix my problem ?
Thanks
can't open the app with cm10 :/ downloaded it three times but it never worked...
Awesome
awesome job mate!!!and by the way can i juzt enter my country name or is there any specific code for each country pls list the countries and their codes..
no US?
Kudos!
Works Perfectly on the AT&T Motorola Atrix HD running stock ICS rooted.
ADHOC ?
will it show adhoc network also ?
it works !!
Thank you very much for the app and your information. :victory:
Helped me to run SlimBean3.0 using wifi channel 13 in Germany. Maybe there is something wrong with my simcard - but whatever, your little app made my day.
Will this be of any use to someone in the USA who doesn't travel outside the USA? Will the app enable ALL possible channels? Or is it useful mainly for people in a country who get a ROM which isn't properly coded for the channels in their particular country?
I'm not having any problems finding Wifi signal with the stock AT&T ROM, so far as I know. But if there are any wifi channels available out there in the USA that are not currently enabled by the stock ROM, this might be useful to me, if only to see them.
?
I've had a heck of a time trying to get wifi to stick on a sd card install of cm10 on my nook color,ya'll think this might help but i dont see any way to install app cause i cant get pass greyed out wifi and cant sign into google and no internet..thanks..
Thanks for this wonderful utility. Will be better if the app can display current setup.
Thanks again!
Thank you very much for the app
Thank you very much for the app
Does not work with my HP Touchpad running CM9, works on my Samsung Galaxy S2
Isn't work on Xperia Neo

No, It doesn't have anything to do with your wlan MAC Address, It just changes the country code. So It is safe to use in your case.
P.S: Sorry for the late reply.

I think it can be almost any country code.. ( It has to be 2 upper-case letters.) ie. JP = Japan, EU = Europe, US = United Status, DE = Germany, UK = United Kingdom, ...
no US?

It does work with US. However setting to US, will enable channels from 1-11.
Hello all,
While going through the initial set up stage of a new rom on my Galaxy S2 I wasn't able to connect to my wifi, the rom simply didn't see any wifi points so I carried on and skipped the Google account bit as I didn't want any settings or apps being downloaded over 3G.
Once the rom was set up I was able to connect to my home wifi and then entered my Google account details. I then downloaded all my apps but my list of previously connected wifi ssids has disappeared. Any other time I have installed a rom, and that is many on quite a few phones, the list of wifi connections is always downloaded from Google along with all my other settings but I assume due to not connecting to wifi at the start of set up I haven't got any of my old wifi connections back. This includes my work wifi which is to say the least a pain to get set up.
Short of reinstalling the rom and hoping I can connect to wifi this time is there a way of downloading my old wifi connection details?
Sewrizer said:
ok. this is quite simple IF you restored the old rom.
enter recovery mode, go in backup and restore, choose restore then restore the rom in which you had all the SSIDs.
now go in play store and download "WiFi Pass Recovery & Backup"(free software). it will tell you all the passwords from the networks you connected to in the past. just write them down on a paper or in notepad, re-flash the desired rom and when you are in the area of any network you can connect using the password you wrote down. i can't think of another method. hit thanks if this helped.
good luck:laugh:

Yeah I had thought of that method but was hoping for something a little simpler! LOL. Thanks anyway, this looks like the only way to do this.

This works but TrustGo Inc. Antivirus & Mobile Security tells me that it may collect privacy information like IMEI, device model and email account.
Better use this one without security issues: WiFi Key Recovery :good:
Problem solved. I reinstalled the rom but instead of selecting "Reboot" at the end of the install I held the power button in until the phone then went back into recovery. I then installed the latest Dorimanx kernel and rebooted. Dori 9.12 seems to have problems picking up wifi whereas 9.13 has no problems. My home wifi was picked up at the start of the set up and from then on Google reinstalled apps and settings. Or at least is in the process of doing so!
I was a little worried as skipping the wifi set up at the start of my first install meant that there was no email address in the Backup and Restore field within Settings so although the backup and restore boxes were ticked without an email account they may as well have been unticked.. No way to add an email address either.
Thanks for the suggestions, as ever very helpful folks on XDA!
You are being watched...
A fairly new trend in (for example) retail is tracking customer's movements by snooping Wi-Fi signals. If your Wi-Fi is turned on, even though it is not connected to any network, your phone will periodically broadcast a unique number (the MAC address), as well as all the Wi-Fi network names and addresses it remembers ever connecting to. With newer Android versions this can happen even if Wi-Fi is turned off, due to a feature called "scanning always available", which helps your device better determine its location.
At the very least, businesses can use these signals to track your visits. But these signals can also be used by a malicious entity (store owners, for example) to track your exact physical location in any area under their Wi-Fi surveillance. In a store, this data can be used for optimizing another one of those annoying store re-arrangements, forcing you to walk by all the product you don't want, to get to those you do want. Or detecting products you're tempted by, but ultimately not buying.
Of course they can also track your trip to the register, and couple your device's MAC address to the payment information (and thus many details about who you are). The tracking hardware and software vendors, the store (or chain) owner, their business partners, they can now all track where you are every time you come into range of one of their systems, and fully profile who you are, what you do, your financials, and your daily patterns!
That's just one small example - the possibilities are endless. A crook could hide a tracker at a bunch of houses, and in an automated fashion learn the patterns of everybody living in all those houses, without even having to do any surveillance - picking the ideal time to heist the family jewels becomes trivial. Authorities can use this information to correlate physical evidence with your location as well, and all the nastiness that comes with that.
Not even mentioning that your device's habit of announcing who all it's friends are and their names, makes it easier for hackers to perform a man-in-the-middle attack, tricking your phone to connect to an access point under their control.
Pry-Fi
One solution is shutting off Wi-Fi completely (including the background network scanning), but you would lose benefits like automatically connecting to known Wi-Fi networks and improved location awareness for your apps. It also does nothing to help the situation for others.
Pry-Fi will prevent your device from announcing all the networks it knows to the outside world, but it will still allow background scanning and automatically connecting to Wi-Fi networks. While you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network, the MAC address will constantly be pseudo-randomized, following a pattern that still makes the trackers think you are a real person, but they will not encounter your MAC address again. This will slowly poison their tracking database with useless information.
When you do connect to a Wi-Fi network, unless you specify otherwise, your MAC address will also be randomized - the same MAC address will not be used the next time you connect to this or any other network.
War!
Though of course the companies involved with these trackers claim they wouldn't use the data maliciously, the possibility is there, and we all know that if something can be abused, ultimately it will be. There do not appear to be any laws against these practices yet, nor is it likely Wi-Fi will be redesigned any time soon to get rid of the information leaks.
But we can make an effort to reduce the usefulness of the tracking data for the exploiters. Pry-Fi comes with a War mode, which when enabled tries to make your Android device appear like dozens of people. Just wandering around an area under Wi-Fi location surveillance for a few minutes can ruin the tracking data for the period of your stay.
Proof-of-Concept
This is proof-of-concept code, and how for it will go in the future depends on interest and how well it works. It has been tested on several devices and seems to work, but it is very young still. The magic the app does to achieve its purpose is ever subject to changing Android security policies and OEM customizations, so even though it works now, there really is no saying if it will still be possible in future firmwares.
Download
You can get Pry-Fi from Google Play
If Play is not working out for you, the APK is also attached below
TEST
Attached you will also find a 'beta-test' version. This one is compiled to work on all Android 4.0+ devices (instead of 4.2+ of the current official release). I have made all the changes needed to make it compile and technically run on pre-4.2 firmwares, but I have not tested it on an actual 4.0 or 4.1 firmware yet. Let me know if it works for your pre-4.2 firmware!
Issues
This is a very young app and its main feature is doing something that by all counts no app should be doing - as such, it will probably always have issues.
The app was developed against and tested on the following devices:
- Google Nexus 5 @ Stock+root 4.4.2
- Samsung Galaxy S4 @ Stock+root 4.4.2
- Samsung Galaxy Note3 @ Stock+root 4.4.2
- Samsung Galaxy Note2 @ OmniROM 4.4.2
- HTC One @ Stock+root 4.3 (S-OFF or otherwise writable /system needed)
- Sony Xperia family - NOT COMPATIBLE
- Oppo devices - NOT COMPATIBLE
Note that your firmwares should be fully up to date - that includes the TrustZone component in case of Samsung.
Known issues
- Requires SuperSU ?
It's tested against SuperSU, and uses some features that may not be available in other root management apps. Depending on both your Android and root management app version it may or may not work with other solutions, but I certainly recommend against it.
- Using the Android Wi-Fi settings is weird
Pry-Fi does a lot of event-based Wi-Fi on/off switching and connecting/disconnecting. So if you go to settings and turn Wi-Fi on or off, add a network, etc, the interface may start looking as if it has gone mad for a few seconds. Don't worry, this is expected behavior.
- Connecting to a Wi-Fi network (either a new one or a previously known one) is slower
Yes. Indeed.
- Forgetting networks
You can't just forget a network from the normal Android Wi-Fi settings. If Pry-Fi is enabled, you need to use the in-app network management tool to forget a network.
- Multiple known networks
Since v1.10, multiple known networks should be supported.
- Hidden networks
It doesn't currently work with hidden SSIDs, and it won't in the future.
- Wi-Fi Direct (to-do)
Behavior is undefined. Pry-Fi probably heavily interferes with this. Needs more testing/development.
- Beam, S Share, etc
Some methods that quickly share data between two Android devices that are close, tapped together, etc, make use of Wi-Fi Direct, and may thus be negatively affected by Pry-Fi.
- Authentication errors
If the Wi-Fi settings keep claiming authentication errors, your device may not actually support changing the MAC address, and Pry-Fi may not be for you... this doesn't have to be the issue, but it is one of the indicators.
Changelogs
2014.02.02 - v1.20
- Force toolbox calls. Typical case of busybox symlinks causing unexpected failures. Probably the primary cause of people losing Wi-Fi completely
- Service receivers are now en/disabled dynamically. Saves a few CPU cycles and a bit of memory when Pry-Fi is installed but disabled.
2014.02.02 - v1.10
- Support for multiple simultaneously known SSIDs
- Spoofing MACs *also* while connected to a network is now a feature you need to enable separately, as this is the feature that causes most issues yet is arguably the least important tracking-wise.
2014.02.01 - v1.02
- Fixed crash/freeze in case of SU denied
- Changed non-SuperSU error to a warning
- Fixed various reported crashes
- Added Superuser permission (doh)
2014.02.01 - v1.01
- (Hopefully) Fixed an issue with the optional IAP
2014.02.01 - v1.00
- Initial public release

This app only works with SuperSU. Would it be able to work with Koush's Superuser in the near future?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Whilst not its main purpose, it will also work great at airports with time based free WiFi. Schipol uses the MAC address to assign a timeframe to devices.
Anyway, working well on HTC One - 4.4.2.

Maybe. Currently has to do with some changes to AOSP that haven't fully panned out yet. Once I'm clear on that, I might put in some time to make it work with Superuser. But I'm certainly not going to delay a release to make it compatible...
Up and running on my s2 with slimkat. So glad I'm aware of guys like you and the work you do. Thank you.

Just fine here on my Nexus4.
One thing though is that Playstore has v1.00. I've downloaded v1.01 from here and it updated flawlessly. I just thought you'd like to know it.
Anyway thank you for all your hard work to our benefits.

Which features will not work on HTC One with root SuperSU, but with S-ON?
This app broke my WiFi on GalaxyS4 (i9505) with Omega ROM v19. I already tried to flash the ROM again, flash new kernel, flash the modem via ODIN again and WiFi fix, but nothing helped. I'm out of ideas what could happen. I cant put the WiFi on anymore.

Something is breaking some of Samsung's extra encryption... this would take a lot of tinkering to figure out, there's no direct answer I can give you right now. Turn it off for the time being.

S-ON is not supported at all.
Confirmed working on Galaxy Note N7000 running Kitkat 4.4.2 with SuperSU 1.91
- OmniROM nightly 2014-02-01 (ART)
- Carbon ROM nightly 2014-01-31 (Dalvik)
In the play store description it was mentioned "developed for phones". I tried it nevertheless with a Galaxy Tab2 10.1 GSM (P5100) running OmniRom KK nightly and it changed successfully the Mac address also.
?
Yes. Reconnect to known WiFi takes a bit longer, but still working..
Just about to backup my apps and setting ... will try a clean instal first.
How do I exactly check if it's working?
I'm on HTC One Cyanogenmod 10.2 Rooted S-ON and there seemed to be no error till now :/
Same for me. Please share if you are able to fix this. Unfortunately I am away from a laptop for the coming week
At least the app does what it should.nobody can track me through Wi-Fi now...

Hi all,
Well i saw a lot of threads about how to unlock the Sprint LS996 flex 2 and a lot of strange explanations that the phone is locked on the hardware level, It's a lot of bull***
I just bought this phone from Ebay for only 280$ and it took me less that a hour to make it work in Israel (Hot-Mobile) 3G GSM/WCDMA network. (the LTE band are different than in USA so it can't be enabled due to hardware limitations)
This will only work on Android 5.0.1, who already did the upgrade to 5.1.1 should wait till approve of root method or
can try KingRoot application (Chinese developer and UI) and let me know if it's working. I did not used this app so can't really approve that it works.
5.1.1 Root (experimental):
Explain Video about KingRoot method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QicDqTKb_sU
5.0.1 Root:
I'm used this method for rooting G flex: http://www.smartphoneclinics.com/easy-one-click-root-lg-flex2-sprint-ls996/ (worked flawless)
SimUnlock:
After successful rooting and restarting the phone I've used this post for enable SIMUNLOCK (seem the db/obb files from G3 but they worked on my Flex 2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/help/managed-to-gsm-ls996-awaited-apn-t3090484
Did exactly what it says and used the files that attached to the thread. After restarting the phone Inserted the simcard and restarted the phone again, (I love restarts )
the network should change to "No Service" Instead of "Invalid SIM" or something like that before the obb/db file change.
Roaming Enable:
After you see "No service" you almost there
Go to Settings > Network > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and choose "Global"
Don't forget to add APN manually, you need to use WIFI for downloading applications like "Shortcut master lite" because there is no Mobile data... yet
APN setup:
Install Shortcut master lite click and hold the recent apps button and click "Search"
Search for apn select com.andoird.settings$ApnSettingsActivity and then click Launch / homescreen
Select on the Top Right new apn
Fill this form out with the apn from your provider (If you don't know the apn look it up in google APN settings for your provider).
Restart the Phone and let 1-2 min to the phone connect to your Mobile Provider
Let me know if this worked to you as well and press "thank's" button for me and "tomtam" that wrote the original post.
Actually after the root I manually de-bloated the phone using Root Uninstall and it's just amazing phone,
without any lag what so ever and i get Over 50K in Antutu 64bit. I'm trying to find a way to use custom recovery and i feel that i
found a workaround for that using TWRP Manager and Busy box..... (It's for different thread )

well lets get to it then it to much of a waste not having a custom recovery etc...maybe maybe a recovery using g3 bump would still work...
I did everything as you did for LS996 GSM unlock. I also enabled the LTE band 4 and it is working perfectly in my country, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/how-to-enable-lte-bands-band-4-1700-t3097409.
To change apn simply install this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.appando.app.changeApn&hl=en. This app does not require root.
Use greenify app to control some apps resource use and freeze LG MLT service, just doing these steps you improve battery a lot.
Finally use any kernel control application as Trickster Mod to change scheduler to row from noop and set governor to interactive, don't forget to set changes at boot.
Enjoy your network unlocked, 4G capable and snappy flagship for only 200 bucks.

I believe this may be limitation. In the network mode option there is automatic, LTS/CDMA,CDMA and GSM/UMTS. I am thinking if you select LTE the phone will try to use CDMA for voice. So if your using A GSM network it wont work. There needs to be a option that says LTE/GSM.
No APN option.

Hi all,
Well i saw a lot of threads about how to unlock the Sprint LS996 flex 2 and a lot of strange explanations that the phone is locked on the hardware level, It's a lot of bull***

Hello, I just bought a 2nd hand LG G Flex 2 for around $100 USD in Nepal. It is a USA Sprint model but unlocked. I checked the imei and its clean. It is already rooted and no sprint apps are present. Calls and sms are working good but there is no option of APN inside mobile networks. So i am unable to use data connection. Is there anyway i can enable it? And also the call volume via earpiece sounds a little low. Thanks in advance.
Hello Everyone,
I recently upgraded to CM 12.1 and discovered that my WiFi won't automatically connect to my router anymore if it doesn't detect access to the internet (I'm in China and Google is Blocked). I believe this explains why this is happening as there is internet and having to manually connect each time is annoying at least Is there a way to disable this "new feature" ?
Regards,
Bob
In Settings, got to WiFi, press the menu button in the top right and there should be an Advanced settings section or something similar (sometimes varies based on ROM/Language). Then untick the Avoid poor connection option. This should resolve your problem. If not, you may not have the correct firmware for 5.1.1
I already have Avoid poor connections unchecked. Any other way to fix this?
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Try disable mobile data before connect to wifi, maybe this way should help

I have the EXACT same problem - it really does happen because you're in China and the method of internet access testing is through Google servers blocked in here.
I'm still trying to figure out how to disable the test or maybe reroute the destination.
It would definitely be a temporary solution to make the VPN active 24/7 if you put it on the router instead of on the phone / computer etc.
Let us know if you find a solution!

this was a very popular and general problem for every Chinese user with google service device.
you have to root your phone and manually change the google server address to a local substitute site, or just turn off the google server detect.
the easiest way is to use an APK developed by Chinese to have all these things done in a click.
search NoExclamation Portal Server 1.5

came here with a google search. this problem is generic to later android versions. i'm on cyanogenmod 12.1 which is i gather is android 5.1.
looking at DNS logs, it tries to access: http://connectivitycheck.android.com - which redirects to google and fails as it's blocked by the GFW.
just downloading the chinese apk to fix it... the link to it i found is: http://m.hiapphere.com/apk-org.foxteam.noisyfox.noexclamation
EDIT: so now got noexclamation the app running, but not sure it's doing anything. UI is in chinese, not sure what options to deal with and how. anyone have success with it?
EDIT2: it's like this: install the app. leave it at defaults where it's using the developers website for connectivity check. toggle it ON if it's not already (i believe needs root). reset network settings by toggling airline mode ON/OFFl. you're good.
however - conceptually better fix would is to take the "feature" OUT, not alter the server that it's checking the accessibility of. from the chinese thread, i gather this will get done by:
su
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
this seems to survive reboot as well. problem solved, end of monologue!
