[Q] Video output questions - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a TF300T with a cracked screen. Its still mostly visible but I would rather use it on my TV as a media player. I installed CM10.2 but I'm still having the issue where the 16:10 native screen is being scaled inside the 16:9 output.
What roms support 16:9 video option?
Are there any roms that support 1080p output?
Thanks

Choppy video?

I was curious if anyone else is having chopping video performance on a 1080p video? I have 720p videos play fine but 1080p video's stutter every few seconds. Any ideas? Its hard to show off the screen when video playback is poor.
There is no difference between a 720p video and a 1080p video on this phone. The screens not big enough to make a difference. Convert your video to 720p or lower if u want to play it on your phone.

He is correct. Make sure you convert the video to the proper resolution and format for best performance. No need to make the phone work harder to decode video from a format you will not gain from.
Storing 1080p video would only seem to benefit if you intend to use an external display. Are you using an external adapter(usb to hdmi or analog) for playback?
Thanks for the replies. I knew that this was the case. When testing the video capabilities, I downloaded a bunch of random HD video samples. Some 720p some 1080p. The 1080p seems to work flawlessly if I taskill everything but I shouldn't have to do that. I guess I'll just stick to 720p unless I'm hooking up to a TV.

[Q]1080p Output possible? (G Tab 7.0 Plus GT-P6210)

So I've got a bit of an odd setup going on and I'm wondering if this is possible somehow. The screen (just the glass) of my Tab is broken, but the device still works as a whole so I decided to set it up as my main media device to replace my Logitech Revue. I've got all the hookups I need, but I'd like to get 1080p output to my big-screen as 720p just doesn't look very good. I've seen in the past where you can manually adjust PPI (pixels per inch), but I don't know that that would actually achieve the 1080p output I'm looking for.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
FYI, I am Rooted, running stock ICS right now. Not afraid to get messy.
Thanks in advance!

So,...perhaps.
Now I think about it, the resolution displayed on the TV depends on the video stream sent to it, not necessarily the resolution of the tablet itself.
I have been able to get 1080i out of mine via the HDMI adapter, but have not gotten 1080p. I questioned Samsung about this and their reply was that it may be due to the HDMI cables that I was using. I have tried a few various cables but still the highest I have gotten is 1080i. It does look fine at this setting though.
How were you able to achieve this?

Does video streamed via MHL depend on resolution of android phone?

I want to know if video streamed through MHL depends on the resolution of the screen of the android phone. For example if I stream a 4K video to a 4K tv on a Note 3 or a MHL 3.0 capable device, will the video only be played at 1080p because of the screen resolution of the note or will it be streamed in full glory like in DLNA??
I also want to know if this is the case with the Z1 compact and the SGS3 which have 720p screens. Will 1080p video be streamed at 720p??
I understand that in the case of screen mirroring for games and such this is the case as obviously you are only streaming what is on the screen.
But MHL plays only the video and does not display the controls and such many times which is why I ask.
If you do not know, please do not make guesses.
Thank you.

[Bug] [Feature Request] 1080p over MHL, cut left/right plus borders on 2nd screen

MX Player 1.7.26.20140502
1st screen: 8.4-inch WQXGA 2560x1600
Galaxy TAB PRO SM-T320N, Qualcomm, 2,3GHz, 2GB RAM, Android Version: KitKat 4.4.2
Codec: MPEG4, H.264, H.263, VC-1, VP8, WMV7/8, Sorenson Spark, MP43
Format: AVI, MP4, 3GP, MKV, WMV, ASF, FLV
2nd screen: Sony FHD TV connected over Samsung 1080p50 MHL to HDMI adapter
Video: 1080p50 h264(pid=4113) in .mts recorded with Sony HX cam
MX set to "fit screen":
1st screen OK (borders top & bottom), 2nd screen borders all around
MX set to "cut screen": NOK on 2nd
1st screen cut left & right, also cuts 2nd left and right not using the full width = borders left and right
Possible Solution:
VLC Beta does not show video on 1st, but uses full 1080p screen (pixel to pixel) on 2nd. I think it could be a good idea anyway to have the possibility to switch off 1st screen and save power this way...
This isn't an MX Player problem per se, but rather a function of how screen rendering is done between devices with different resolutions.
The 1080p video is a 16:9 video, which gets cropped to fit on your 2560:1600 16:10 tablet screen; result is the top and bottom bars.
MHL, all it does it broadcast the tablet screen as-is to the TV. This means it's broadcasting the 2560:1600 16:10 screen as-is to the 1080p TV. Since the tablet's taller than the TV, it will get cropped with the left and right bars.
VLC Beta where the video only plays on the 2nd screen, that would be what's generally referred to as casting; aka asking the TV to decode and render the video. MHL is generally for mirroring; aka where both screens show the same video source.

Fullscreen support via HDMI output for devices that don't have a 16:9 aspect ratio

I found these old thread from last year in the XDA Nexus 10 forum & old MX Player forum on Google Groups:
MXplayer to support full screen HDMI!!
Nexus 10 hdmi output scaling
Did this feature ever get implemented? I also have a device that doesn't have a 16:9 aspect ratio (LG Optimus G) & would LOVE to have this feature in MX Player so I can stop using the stock LG video player app when I have my device hooked up to my TV.

OK I read that thread earlier but I didn't totally understand, until I just re-read it now. So you're saying that I need to use a video player app that uses casting (The Stock LG Video player app does this also) instead of just being mirrored when being output via HDMI?
That is correct. Casting on a mobile device is similar to using extended desktops on your PC. It's the only way to have 2 actual screens rendered at different resolutions. When the video is cast, the video itself will be rendered at the video's native resolution. And of course since most (if not all) videos these days are 16:9, it will match your TV.

Is this a feature we can expect in MX Player in the future?

Is there any other video player apps that can cast via HDMI output? I can't seem to get the VLC Beta app to do it.
Not that I'm aware of; but then again, I've never had the need to do this so I wouldn't know.
