[Q] Restoring Nandroid Backup to replacement Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just recieved my new Nexus 5 from Google. I unlocked it's bootloader, rooted it, and created a nandroid backup so that I could have TWRP create the proper folder structure. I then created a nandroid from my old Nexus 5, placed it into the TWRP folder of my new Nexus 5, and restored everything (with the exception of the EFS).
Now, whenever I go into the play store, I cannot update or install any apps because it says "the package is invalid" or "couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card" depending on what app I try to install/update.
I even tried clearing the google play services data to no avail. Has anyone been able to figure out how to fix this?

I assume it connects you your mobile network without issue?
If so try wipe data and cache then restore data only

Yeah it connects to Google services without any issue. I"m thinking it may have something to do with the new Nexus 5's different Device ID?

Normally a Nandroid restores fine as long as you didn't restore Efs

Yeah I tried that and still get the same error. When I get home, I'll backup my device ID from my old nexus 5 using TiBackup and restore it on my new one, see if that fixes it. Otherwise, I'm at a loss here

Hmm, apps are stored in the data portion of the backup. Where do you install your apps? To SDcard or to the phone's internal storage? If you're not installing them to the internal storage I'm not sure where they would be or whether they're being backed up at all.
If you're not installing them to the SD card, try this. Do your restore then reboot then go back into recovery and do an advanced restore and just do /Data.

Something happened

A couple of my apps un-updated and go keyboard malfunctioned totally as did todo list... Im asking if anyone knows what the hell happened?
EDIT: It happened after running out of battery. I think its an I9023

Try to do a factory data reset in recovery, or if you don't mind losing files on SD card then you can do it from Settings > Backup & reset
Its not rooted, gonna wait til it breaks and root it after repair so i dont root it with worn parts. Anyways i got a duplicate youtube app now which cant be uninstalled.

you can backup with this app https://market.android.com/details?...DEsImNvbS5yZXJ3YXJlLmFuZHJvaWQuTXlCYWNrdXAiXQ.. then copy the folder on your sd card it (should be called reware) to your pc then go into settings hit backup and then reset and after that copy folder back to sd then download app again and hit restore

[Q] WhatsApp messages restore

So, I have rooted my Nexus 4, and backedup the .db file.
When I'm trying to restore it, it doesn't recognize it.
In previous times, I've managed to restore it without any problems.
Any idea?
try registering your number and see if msgs are restored automatically

This usually happens when your phone has internal and external memory or when you suffle name of the Folder.
So first of all make sure ur backup is properly pasted in Internal Storage.
Then try to register it will twll you message backup found.

[Q] moving data

I'm switching from one nexus 5 to another, and was trying to figure out the easiest way to do so. I have a lot of apps and data, plus xposed modules with different per app settings, etc. I want to move everything over in the easiest way possible. Can I do a nandroid and just restore it to the new device? Or maybe just a nandroid of the data partition? The timing of my switch means I'd also be switching from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3.
Yes, you can restore the nandrioid backup... However, just make sure you don't restore the /efs partition because doing so will leave your new device in wifi only mode + without imei.

Awesome, it won't cause any problems going between devices? Also, can I switch to f2fs at the same time? Like I could switch it to f2fs and then restore the nandroid, but would that which back to ext4?
Would be much safer to ONLY do this with user apps and data. With titanium backup. Do a backup, transfer the folder they're in to a PC....or even Dropbox.... then transfer the folder to the new device.
Doing anything that involves system apps may cause issues.

Would that make me lose anything? I have titanium backup from a long time ago, but I never actually used it for much. Nandroids usually worked well enough for me.

Titanium backup will save all your user installed apps and data. There's a way to save texts too ...but I never save mine, so haven't tried it.

Awesome, thanks. I'll figure that out. What about the f2fs thing?

Titanium is format independent.

[Q] Moving accounts when changing roms

I want to give the Mahdi rom a try, and I have my apps all backed up via titanium backup, but how do I get all my google and corporate email accounts to move over? Or do I just have to set each one up again.
Only restore user app data. All system data will need to be manually configured
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Indeed. I would strongly advise against backing up and restoring of system app data, you'll just have to go through the setup again.
