Wrong section, it belongs in Q&A.
But to answer your question, ROMs can be used on either, no special instructions. The only difference between the D820 and D821 is the radios, everything else is exactly the same. :good:

You won't be disappointed, the Nexus 5 gets a lot of developer love.

D821 and and D820 only differs radio for LTE networks. However, the modem/baseband/radio images are the same for both wariant.

Just make sure you only flash modems meant for D821. Otherwise, you will have no data at the very least, or you could hard brick your device.

I've read somewhere that the modems are identical even after comparing hashes, probably only the chip itself is different.

Could be. Better safe than sorry though without actual proof of what would happen. I'm just not brave enough to flash the wrong modem to find out.

Don't worry, it's almost always better safe than sorry.
I took the adventurous route and flashed D820 modems (mine is D821). So far everything works fine, no loss of data, no missing bands, etc.
As stated here, only the modems from KRT16M have been verified equal and they are exactly the same (not even a single byte difference). However, if you're messing around with modems, be sure to have a backup of your EFS partition and store it somewhere else like on your PC or some sort of cloud storage since losing it means that you can't use it as a phone anymore (IMEI is lost and SIM card will be unreadable).
To OP: No, they share the same ROM. They even share the same factory image.

Very well said. +1 couldn't agree more about having an EFS backup not to mention a Nandroid at the ready in case something random happens.
So if modems can be flashed vice versa without an adverse effect.. I really wonder what are the differences between the two.

It's a physical, hardware-level difference, no kind of software tricks would allow it to change.

[MOD] Using Skyrocket on T-mobile/AWS Bands

So a lot of people have been PM'ing me in regards to this matter.
There are also a couple of threads lingering around in the General section on both the t-mobile and skyrocket forums which brush on the topic but don't really go into the details.
I decided to post this here as a MOD.
Yes the Skyrocket will support HSPA+/3g on T-mobiles network. How do I know this? I had one and was using it on t-mobile with no problem.
There are a couple radios you can flash to get HSPA+ on the skyrocket:
T-mobile SGH-T989 KID: http://minus.com/mlupRDTvJ#1
T-mobile SGH-T989 VK1: http://minus.com/mlupRDTvJ#4
Telus KJ3: http://minus.com/mlupRDTvJ#2
Here is the Stock Skyrocket radio: http://minus.com/mlupRDTvJ#3
Depending on where you are located/what bands your operator uses I would assume one of these radios would work better than the other.
On a side note a lot of people have just "claimed" that the skyrocket doesn't pick up hspa+. This is not true, it does but you will have to figure out the right ROM/Kernel/Radio combination. I experienced intermittent connectivity on certain skyrocket kernels while running a T-mobile radio etc. Either way I ALWAYS had the ability to connect to hspa+. Most often I would get speeds of between 3-7mbps. I personally used VK1.
When it comes down to the bottom line though, the skyrocket is essentially the same device as the galaxy s2 but with LTE.
IF this helped please hit the thanks button!
I am also using my skyrocket on T-Mobile. I have Juggernaut/Faux 009/VKL1 combo. So far it has been the best combo for me where I get 3-7mbps. The only problem I have it slow upload speeds. Not just for this combo but for all the combos i tried. I am only getting 50-100kbps upload speeds. Any idea why?
*just a heads up, multiupload has been down for weeks already, might wantto change the download links.

i777 have completely different hardware.
But, what you need exactly (ROM, baseband) and why you need it?
if you need your i777 work better on t-mo network, try flash i9100 modems, may be it'll help.
If there will be problems, you may flash back i777 modem
PS: do not forget to make nandroid backup before flashing

Does anyone know if the AT&T Galaxy Note ROMs can be flashed on our phone? The Bell Galaxy Note (also LTE) comes with AWS HSPA+ and LTE out of the box... if it also has the MDM9200 chip and if the radios could be flashed on our phones, this could enable LTE, AT&T 3G, and AWS HSPA all at the same time!
I would assume not due to the resolution etc but the radios....quite possible they could

LTE Toggle on AT&T Phone - official response from HTC

"I looked into the situation on this and I can verify that there is not a native way to disable LTE on the AT&T version of the One X. While we don't normally recommend this, you may want to check the Play store to see if there's an app that will give you this functionality. Please be aware that if you run into any concerns through the use of such software we can certainly try and offer assistance, but the use of such an app is at your sole discretion. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, and thanks for being a member of the HTC community!"
If enough people report this or ask about this. I am hopeful that they'll add LTE toggle natively in the interface.
They could add a toggle, but....I don't think it would work.
I'm pretty sure that AT&T, whether it be in ther SIMS, or just over the network, force the phones to allow LTE. I don't think that I have even been able to disable 3G on an AT&T device since my Moto Backflip. Ha, if I even could on there. (Though technically, the Backflip was my second device...Aria was the first and I broke it thus had to downgrade
tl;dr The problem is AT&T, not software. Custom ROMs with LTE toggles would have the same issue so I can't see how HTC would be able to fix it either
Someone correct me if I'm an idiot
You can toggle off 3G on the AT&T iPhones. Looks like AT&T just has HTC by the balls (pardon my French). Locked bootloader, presumed kernel release delay....
I'd love to be able to turn off LTE when I don't need it. HSPDA is plenty fast to check email and forums (and way better on the battery).

here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27697880&postcount=1
also if you use ASIA 1.88 the option is also there. with the auto switch. so its ATT being douches
its actually pretty simple why ATT wants to force LTE when they can, it simply means you'll use more data, and the more data you use, the more money they make.
Here's just an example, you open a 10 minute youtube video with 3g, you watch maybe 30 seconds and decide not to watch anymore. You may have downloaded 1-2 minutes worth of streaming data, where as with LTE, in that same 30 seconds, you could have downloaded the entire 10 minutes, thus causing more data usage.
that menu from the gsm hack doesnt work though. or it never worked for me anyway. no matter what option I picked it would just go back to the default
It probably built into at&t kernal to not allow it, in did notice with 1.88 kernal you could.

Now the big question is, how much better is your battery life when you turn off LTE?
Can anyone safely notice an increase that isn't placebo?
Care to test formally, anyone?
You can disable LTE by adding a new APN which uses wap.cingular. This does work on att without any problems. You can find the APN settings here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675879&highlight=cingular+apn
It does make a noticeable difference in battery life, too.

[ROM][ODIN-TAR]Odin One-Clicks (LF2,LG1,LK1,LK3)

This is a set of rooted and unrooted Odin One-Click Packages. If you're unfamiliar with these, it is the factory firmware loaded in a compacted version of odin and flashing is executed in a single click. No need to check boxes, or worry about what slots to load etc. I do not own this version of the s3 so these have not been tested. They're packed in self-extracting 7z archives. They will not affect your flash count.
Windows PC with Samsung Drivers installed is required.
Shouldn't be any problems but I am not responsible for any that may arise.

Main reason being is that sxtpdevelopers is the only reason I got the tools and instructions to make these. In addition to that, sextape is a big contribitor to alot of great stuff including most of the leaks we recieve and the site survives off of ads and donations so I do what I can to increase traffic. Being a sprint user I am not 100% on how the locked thing works. To my understanding tho you needed something special for an unlocked bootloader to flash so there was no way to load it into this. So no

You would only need a Sim card if you went to T-Mobile or At&t.
I didn't know that Sprint gave out the nexus 5 for two years on contract, considering its a contract free phone. But it will definitely last you two years. I don't really foresee some game changing features coming out with phones in the coming year (s5, HTC one m8) and you will have the best support by developers so you will always have the latest android version.

Cannot really say too much because this can't turn into a best ROM thread but here is a list of every ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...dex-google-nexus-5-roms-kernels-mods-t2475401
fyi: if not using a Cyanogenmod ROM make sure the kernel is not CAF normally the thread will say what it is. You can also click on my signature and see the modifications I have done to my nexus 5 to make it my own.

"CAF is a custom Linux kernel branch in place to support Qualcomm hardware. By using a potentially heavily customized kernel (while AOSP Android uses the main Linux kernel), custom kernel developers will have to effectively maintain two separate instances of their customizations."

Thanks a lot
I'm also on Sprint. Here's what you need to do, when you get the phone just make sure the uicc (sim) card is in the phone so you can fully activate it. Otherwise you won't be able to get LTE. If you don't have it just go to a store and get one. That's it. All nexus 5 are the same, so feel free to dive into any sort of rom you like. If you do, make sure unlocking the bootloader is the first thing you do. You don't want to set the phone up all nice then have to do it all over again because it gets wiped when unlocking the bootloader.

With contract.. Meaning, whoever is paying the bill is paying for the phone in the monthly fees.

. 4 radio 📻

Anyone else think the radio in the update is an improvement? Seems to me it is. I've got h+, full time again. Not something that ive had in a while.
Please fix the F/C on this application. Thx.

In my case.I had to downgrade to the 4.4.1 radio since the the 4.4.3 one dropped signal so much and that drained around 10% battery overnight for 3 consecutive nights. That's the main issue I found with it. Now, with the .4. its all back to normal and get better signal on places like basements and spots that were dead before..
Yes, seems much better to me. 4.4.2 radio was terrible for drop outs then 4.4.3 radio fixed that but with a lot of battery drain. The new radio in 4.4.4 seems to have fixed both issues for me anyway and does seem to give a slightly better signal strength.

with .3 and .4 I get a bit of distortion everytime I'm in a phone call. Any ideas? I've already flashed several times only the radio. Clean flash.
.16 Seems slightly better than .13 for me on T-Mobile usa.
No point comparing since it varies from one person to another. Across all radios I've seen absolutely no difference.

Good point. Its more about location. Some radios perform better on certain location. Also if you got poor signal, the phone will spend more energy looking for it.
It's about trying to see which does better where we leave.

Well in my case i went from 20+mbs down to1-2mbs. That's not walking around the apartment. Im up to 20mbs.This update is so small there cant have been much more than a new radio and a couple of fixes. Need to have a look at it when I've got the time.
Please fix the F/C on this application. Thx.
.16 is more than doubling my prior modem speed's on T-Mobile usa in Vegas (about 29mb down/18mb up).

Yesterday I had the clearest mobile phone call I've had in a long time after updating to 4.4.4. Brilliant.

.16 is definitely one of the best modems released. Wasn't too happy with .13

I've seen a huge improvement from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4.
These were done right on my front step.
