Just curious if anyone has given the new Google Camera a try? I tried once a few versions ago by just side loading it, and it was a crash factory. Was not sure if anyone had tried the Slim ROM camera patch, and if they had any success.
I tried that when it first came out it works

I have the wifi edition Xoom mz604 and have changed to the US rom from Motorola's site. The flashing went fine and I received all the OTA updates so I have Android 4.0.4 now, but my front camera does not work. If I go to take a picture it is a green screen with lines moving throughout it, the rear camera works fine but that does me no good for Skype.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Anything I could try to fix it? All help/suggestions would be appreciated.
I have tried every camera app on the market with the same results also
Thank You

Got the same problem here since long time ago, seems like a hardware problem, maybe if you have the guaratee available you can ask to raplace the damage part. In my case im from MX and my tables was bought in US so no way to have guarantee here, just buy an OEM front facing camera from Ebay and hope somebody can send me the camera to replace.
As much as it sucks, if you want to eliminate the possibilities, you're gonna have to flash another rom and see if it happens.
Hmmm well guess I will start by going back to stock and re-locking it as it will need to be like that for warranty anyways. The tablet is 2 weeks old so I got lots of warranty on it still lol.
Thanks all

recently I notice that my camera wouldn't focus and I think it started happening after the latest update.
everything was working great before and never had an issue. any ideas?
The latest camera update our android update? Try clearing data and cache for the camera app. If that doesn't work try another camera app.
Edit: Typo

I meant I am using all the latest software.... All updates were installed.
I tried clearing the cache... Downgrading the camera app, installed various camera apps and same result.
I also did a factory reset.

...and the glass covering the lens is not smudged?
Glass is clean, very clean actually, never used the device without a case and the glass usually wouldn't touched any surfaces directly.

You could try downgrading to another version of android by flashing the stock image. If that doesn't work I think there may be a hardware issue.

I tried going back to 4.4.2 when I know it worked but it didn't work with the downgrade.
I called Google and they will send another device... Factory refurbished... I'm skeptical about that thou, should I be?

Download another camera app and see if you have the same issue. If you don't, then it's just the software and not a problem with the camera itself.
Hel already mentioned that he tried many camera apps all with the same result.
@op No, I think the new device will be just fine. Don't worry about it.

Just wondering if anyone else gets this on the stock ROM every so often?

I get this issue ALL THE TIME when I'm trying to use Snapchat, but I'm assuming that's just an issue with the app and it's compatibility with my device, ROM, kernal, etc. I haven't noticed it happening with the Camera Next app (Cyanogen stock camera), but I also haven't tried using it much.

That's a well-known Cyanogenmod issue which I frankly hoped would not occur on this CM-powered phone. I did have it happen too on some occasions regardless of which app triggered the camera.
The good old "Restart Camera" APK seems to do the trick even though it takes a lot of time to reinitialize the camera afterwards. See here for the APK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/themes-apps/17-fixed-camera-app-lib-cm-aosp-roms-t2505973
Yeah same here with Snapchat

Not sure whether it would be worth flash a different ROM just because of this issue. Shame though because I really do like this ROM.

I just downloaded the Camera Reset apk that someone previously mentioned and I'm hoping when Snapchat loses connection to the camera, using the reset app will fix it. Better than restarting the phone.

Hello all. Man, it's been a while. Well, on to business.
I just downloaded the most recent update about... A month ago or so I think?
The past 2 weeks, however, my Google search has stopped working. If I access the app or click the search bar on my home screen, it pops up for a second, then crashes and gives me the option to report. Also crashes when I try to use voice in Chrome.
So far I have:
1. Cleared cache, data, etc.
2. Uninstalled updates. It didn't work before re-updating it, and I have now done this 4 times.
3. Reinstalled updates to no success.
4. Attempted to backup my phone with the stock backup, only to have it fail, thus blocking a factory reset (don't want to lose my data). This is ALSO an issue I am having, so advice here would also be appreciated, though not necessary. I think my broken GoogleSearch messed it up anyway.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Is anyone else having this issue? Or has my famously bad luck rendered me the only one again?
I am running a bone stock D800, unrooted. Please no hate for my lack of root; every time I root I seem to break something (bad luck, not inexperience!), and I tried to keep from it this time.
If you have just a patch or workaround that's perfect. My goal is to keep my G2 functioning until April 2015, then I can get a new phone. Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Bump. It's getting worse. It used to only do it when I opened the app. Now it does it at random about every twenty minutes.

Bump.
Voice recognition is completely gone everywhere now.

Bump. Finally factory reset since apparently nobody across several different forums knows what's causing this. Guess what? Still broken!
Could really use any help at all. This is driving me insane.
Never mind! Apparently the update decided to go ahead and brick my phone today. Won't even boot to the LG logo. Had to buy a G3. Fantastic.
Would appreciate it if you closed this thread, mods.

Ever since I upgraded to 5.0, my phone won't connect to the camera. The problem has been consistent across different roms and happens with every camera app. I even tried restoring to my nandroid of 4.4, but it still didn't work.
I thought that maybe it had something to do with how I upgraded: I just flashed it like any other room. Am I the only one experiencing this problem and does anyone know of a way to fix it?

Perhaps there is a hardware problem . Try to remove the cover and check the trail camera.

Does it not work at all, ever? I've had the "cannot connect to camera" issue on Lollipop but just once and it was after I'd used the flashlight from quick settings (a known problem).
If it doesn't work at all then it sounds more like a hardware problem. The best way to confirm that would be a factory reset and test before installing any third party applications.
I've same problem with the camera
