[Q] Clean Start - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am rooted, unlocked and running the stock rom and kernel. Phone is acting slow so I want to start over absolutely clean like the day I bought it, no previous data no nothing. What is the best way to do this clean out so I can start over.

The answer is in my signature.

Since you've just unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device, a factory reset from settings or from the stock recovery should suffice!
If you have removed apps and changed files then flashing stock factory images would be good. You can find all the steps in the stickies at general section!

You can use an app like 360 security to frequently clean up things and you will notice a difference.. Your device wont get bogged down.. Has a little floating blue icon that tells you when you need to clean and you just drag it down and it does its thing. Great app imo! [emoji106]

Simple answer is no. You can try doing it without a wipe but you will run into issues.

THIS would be why so many people, like myself, run and recommend TITANIUM BACKUP......
it should be on the 'essential rooted apps' list

The one I posted above won't wipe data. Here's another that won't wipe data and is just a very lightly themed and deodexed stock ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193244
Of course, if you do have issues, then you'll probably end up wiping anyway. Use titanium backup to store all your settings and apps first.
Note if you are silly enough to have run an EXT4 ROM previously then you're probably going to have to wipe anyway regardless.
If your original ROM was a stock rooted ROM then you have a good chance updating without wiping with some of the stock (or almost stock) rooted ROMS on this forum. Both Gene's and Pirateghost's ROM's are good. Or try this one which is as close to stock as you can get and might be your best bet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192372

So Ive been running Sky Ice Ucle e6 for a few hours. I went to try out a mod and and I downloaded it, put it on my sdcard, and installed the zip thinking that was the correct process. (I dont think it was, in retrospect...) Now, my notification bar is gone.
Any help??
(I tried to install the Circle Sky ICS with crysis....was it incompatible?)

i had this issue on the sky ics rom. it happened when i flashed the wrong radio. to fix the issue i did a clean wipe and rein-stalled the base rom then the radio again (UCLE2) and let it all boot up and settle, then i flashed the update and my notification bar was back. if worst comes to worst and you cant get it back by flashing the odin 1 click and then restart installing all roms again and it will come back.

My high score on the antutu benchmark app was like 6606. Not mind blowing but a pretty good score. i got my skyrocket running absolutely optimal and loving every second of it

Restoring system app data I would avoid, but to restore user apps use titanium backup. Its free and great if properly used. Just set your filters to make sure you don't include any system apps on your batch backup. And when you restore the apps, I would batch restore the apps and then restore the app data only for apps where you actually need to restore app data.
And don't tell Scott I recommended backing up and restoring.
To the guy scared of borking, don't worry its a good file.

Ok. Sure.
I have never created a ROM, MOD or TOOL that has ever borked anything.
You can see my creation list here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=57713590
If you are still concerned then simply dont flash it and just move on. I dont know what you are so scared of or why are you making such a big deal

Once again, its a stock rooted ROM. Nothing more. Its not a custom ROM. There are no tweaks or no mods, etc. You can provide all the feedback you want. There will be no changes because its stock.

TB Doesnt like this root method. Clear TB data and SuperSU data. Make sure you update binaries in Super SU then set the default permissions to allows allow. Other than that I have no clue. I get root with every app no problem.
Let me guess who rated the thread 2 stars? Hmmmm....
2 starsss. no way it is the best Stock ROM around IMO.
I just rate it 5X.
BTW TB works fine here, it acquires root w/o problem.
Haven't find any issue actually.

I know man... Some people are quick to downgrade something when they dont know how to use it. lol
Some peoples kids!
One possible nice addition would be 4in1 power buttons, even if it was hidden somewhere so the wife couldn't accidentally hit it.. The ability to jump to recovery would be nice since it's pissy to do it the hardware "button"/cold way. I know it's stock, and I greatly appreciate it. I have it loaded for my wife, but jumping to recovery from the device without issues, another app, or a tool kit would be nice. Just an idea. Thanks.
Going to check this out, just want something stock and speedy. CM10 was a bit too unstable for me at the moment. Thanks for the ROM!

Did you flash the latest from the previous Avatar ROM? If yes, you should still have it on your phone, don't you? Good rule is not to delete ROMs until you know the next one works.
No, lesson learned. I actually had gone all the way back to stock, wanting to give gb a try again, but the wifi was awful and rely a lot on wifi. So, I went all the back to jb and flashed the latest avatar.

Well 3.5 is pretty stable. I would do a reset, flash it again per OP instructions and let it settle. Do a factory reset, wipe cache and Dalvik and not a dirty flash.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
I did that in the beginning. I have never done a dirty flash. Though on some roms, they can be buggy. I accept that, not complaining. I will consider reflash with a clean start.
3.5 is my stable version right now. I'm working on version 4.5

Whats the Most Stock Rom?

So I thought I`d give CM a try but not sure if I like it, I really don`t want to have to use the tool to completely return back to stock as it erases the internal SD card, flashing roms and wiping with Clockworkmod does not erase my internal storage so if theres a almost pure stock rom what is the best one for that? I was looking at this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516248

Purity ROM
Hi,
The most stock rom: [ROM] Google Nexus 5 [4.4.2] [STOCK] [10 Dec] [deodexed & odexed rom 4.4.2] or [ROM] [STOCK] Android 4.4.2 KOT49H - Rooted/Busybox/Odexed (12/10/13)...
Sorry but Purity or Cataclysm rom are far from stock, with all the features availables it's not the most stock roms (even if based on AOSP or stock).

It`s not like I`m "New" Here I`m not arguing but I`m pretty sure I know what fastboot is as I have used it when I first went back to stock, and I extensively had to use it back on my HTC On. Many users here use toolkits and learn nothing because they used them. You must forgive us when we joke about this sort of thing as it's just us trying to blow away some of teh frustration we have from trying to help people who have (Through no fault of their own) been suckered into the toolkit crutch

LOL. I havent used a toolkit in a long time and when I did it never really worked right lol. I`m the same way sometimes with the Joking . I have a thread on here for a guide to flash back to stock on the G2 and get a lot of (No OP readers) lol
Viking37 is right, the STOCK rom is the closet to STOCK you will get. Just download one of the two roms he linked and flash it like any other (custom) rom in CWR
This seems to be a "best ROM" thread that being said... Most ROM's have the "stock look: that you are looking for they just have extra options under settings. You don't have to change any of them. I recommend purity. I stay away from CM (just not a fan).
