[Q] Rooted Inspire - HTC Inspire 4G

HI All, I rooted my wifes phone before the Gingerbread update came out. I used the superoneclik method. Is there anyway for me to update her phone to get teh Gingerbread?

Super one click method doesn't work. Are you talking about bubbys one click method?

Simple answer is no. You can try doing it without a wipe but you will run into issues.

THIS would be why so many people, like myself, run and recommend TITANIUM BACKUP......
it should be on the 'essential rooted apps' list

The one I posted above won't wipe data. Here's another that won't wipe data and is just a very lightly themed and deodexed stock ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193244
Of course, if you do have issues, then you'll probably end up wiping anyway. Use titanium backup to store all your settings and apps first.
Note if you are silly enough to have run an EXT4 ROM previously then you're probably going to have to wipe anyway regardless.

If your original ROM was a stock rooted ROM then you have a good chance updating without wiping with some of the stock (or almost stock) rooted ROMS on this forum. Both Gene's and Pirateghost's ROM's are good. Or try this one which is as close to stock as you can get and might be your best bet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192372

For sure, after discovering how easy it was to use Titanium B., I can't believe I ever went without using it. It has saved my butt and time, well, time and time again

I have tried cognition and perception, both awesome and fast ROM's from Designgears. Both ROM's stay on the cutting edge but of course that means there will be bugs. Both Rom's are updated frequently but most of the updates come via a full flash and data wipe. Personally I use my phone for business and need a stable, mostly bug free, phone that doesn't require me to flash, wipe my data and reconfigure everything on a regular basis. I simply don't have the time.
I recently switched to Serendipity which has been the best ROM experience of my phone flashing life. While not as cutting edge as Disigngear ROM's it is very current and extremely fast. There have been reports of small bugs by some users but nothing that I have personally experienced or effected my use of the phone. Updates to fix these bugs are release quickly and are always done as an update not a full flash. Only major releases involve a full flash and a data wipe.
Serendipity is extremely fast, even faster than the Designgear ROM's. My GPS works almost perfectly. The ROM is aesthetically pleasing as well.
I am looking forward to see what other's have to say about some ROM's I have not tried yet. I am pretty sold on Serendipity but if there is something better than I am willing to give it a try.

you do not have to master clear for any rom...its an old wives tale!
its on your /sdcard dude....seriously. you should not be flashing if you have not read about these basics first.
How is this thread still up? Well gotta say pheonix IMHO is just amazing! Gotta love that Green! But keep trying ROM's till you find the one you like, always remember you can re-theme if you like the speed too.

Question about Full Wipe

when installing a new ROM i see instructions from time to time to do a full wipe. i am aware this is a factory reset, but i have another question.
will this delete all of the apps i have backed up in titanium backup? also, will it delete the other ROMs i have backed up in ROM manager?
hopefully these won't be deleted because i really want to try the new MIUI!
thanks

C'mon man, you gotta search a little..these are all things that are covered in many threads.
Full wipe (i.e. data, cache and dalvik cache) will wipe everything except your back-ups. The only time you would lose your back-ups is if you decide to delete them off your sdcard. Everything else as you know it will be deleted with a full wipe (i.e apps, contacts if they aren't synced to google or your sim card, pretty much anything saved to your phone and not your sdcard).
Be aware though that any AOSP ROM doesn't like to read to the sim card.

Well personal opinion is stay away from miui.
As far as TIBU (titanium backup)...no, when you do a full wipe it does not wipe your sdcard. Which is where all of your tibu backups are stored. Also, any roms that you back up in recovery using Rom manager are stored on your sdcard.

Well, what the guys said is correct. Do a Titanium Backup and if you are not sure copy the SD folder in your PC....I usually do that with my TIBU and Rom Manager Backups, although I have never had problems with full wipe.
Respect to MIUI, the main disadvantage is that the guys hide behind chinese servers that do not have copyright laws as in US and their source is close different to what happens with other roms. If you flash MIUI you will find out that and email is automatically sent from your address to them without your permission and knowledge....that's why I also stay away from them. Anyway, you have to test and try as many roms as you can by yourself...then decide what is the best to you. See ya...
Thanks for the help fellas. looks like i'll stick with CM7 til CM9 comes out. or a stable ICS build somewhere

Restoring system app data I would avoid, but to restore user apps use titanium backup. Its free and great if properly used. Just set your filters to make sure you don't include any system apps on your batch backup. And when you restore the apps, I would batch restore the apps and then restore the app data only for apps where you actually need to restore app data.
And don't tell Scott I recommended backing up and restoring.
To the guy scared of borking, don't worry its a good file.

TB Doesnt like this root method. Clear TB data and SuperSU data. Make sure you update binaries in Super SU then set the default permissions to allows allow. Other than that I have no clue. I get root with every app no problem.
Let me guess who rated the thread 2 stars? Hmmmm....

I know man... Some people are quick to downgrade something when they dont know how to use it. lol
Some peoples kids!
One possible nice addition would be 4in1 power buttons, even if it was hidden somewhere so the wife couldn't accidentally hit it.. The ability to jump to recovery would be nice since it's pissy to do it the hardware "button"/cold way. I know it's stock, and I greatly appreciate it. I have it loaded for my wife, but jumping to recovery from the device without issues, another app, or a tool kit would be nice. Just an idea. Thanks.
Going to check this out, just want something stock and speedy. CM10 was a bit too unstable for me at the moment. Thanks for the ROM!

HTC Inspire 4G Help

Hi guys, I am an iphone user and Just started to use Android so dont know much about it. I have couple of problems please help me to solve them.
1. I Installed Android ICS 4.0.4 after rooting Inspire 4g and its working now but whenever i run few app it reboots. I tried to run Temple RUN 3-4 times but my phone reboots. Please help me to find the way.
2.- Now its not rooted. Would you please help me to know how to root now this Inspire 4G with ICS 4.0.4.
Regards
1. Which ROM?
2. How did it get unrooted?
I Installed this Rom and i have done nothing after that i dont know how to unroot or whatever.
update-aospX-1.0.0-AR30-DesireHD-signed.zip
would you please let me know what to do? It reboots and dosent look stable for me.

That's because that is not the latest version. Where did you get it? It is actually really old. The latest version is on this phone's development forum. Usually I would tell you to read more and search for the link, but I'm feeling nice today. So I'll give you the link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460820. And I'll give you a friendly warning: around here and around most Android hacking forums, we expect even new users to read and research a lot for themselves instead of flashing things willy-nilly. Look to the link in my signature for some new user help. And remember to full wipe.
Also, I4G users can flash Desire HD ROMs. So you can try that forum out too. It's more active than this one.
I got it from google. and would you please let me know what to do? Can you give me the link of latest rom of ICS 4.0.4 link which will work on Inspire 4G and how can i root this 4G now? because i cant install your rom without Rooting.

Well, you haven't answered the question of how it got unrooted. Not knowing how that happened, I don't know which of several solutions will work. For the rest read my edited post above. And look generally to the I4G and DHD Development forums for ROMs. Don't randomly flash stuff from Google. You run a pretty high risk of bricking your phone.

Er, your iPhone? Do you mean your DHD? You probably got your Superuser app deleted somehow from your current ROM, I don't know how, but once the ROM is flashed Superuser should be back, since the ROM will have it. Make sure you full wipe first, which means wiping or reformatting system, data, and cache (the exact method differs depending on your recovery). This will erase any data you have.
Also, did you use AAHK S-Off or HTCDEV bootloader unlock? The flashing method differs. And by the way, calling either option "root" is a misnomer. AAHK S-Off lets you flash anything to your phone. HTCDEV bootloader unlock lets you flash certain custom ROMs. They basically unlock hardware. Root is software. It usually comes with a ROM, though you could push the relevant Superuser.apk and su binary from your computer with adb if you really wanted to do so. You just can't flash a ROM (and usually people are looking to flash rooted ROMs) unless you have unlocked hardware with AAHK or HTCDEV. Look at the link in my signature, which has a very good guide on post #7, for more detailed information that you should probably know before you go mess with your device any further.
Yah Sir, my Inspire 4G had 2.3.3 as you know that and i did use AAHK to unlock bootloader before flashing 4.0.4. and as i said earlier i am using it now but rebooting. I do understand my questions frustrate you because i am noob.

...Um, no. Paid apps are still paid. That doesn't change with root. And XDA does not condone pirating. I meant that you could install paid apps in a rooted ROM just like you can on stock.

Well, he can pirate apps on Android all he wants regardless of whether he's rooted or not. Whether he should is a whole other question.
Well, I am agreed with MissB. Rooting the phone goes far beyond hacking 5 bucks apps. If the only reason is that he wants to pirate apps, then he is in the wrong place.
Besides, he needs to read a bit more before messing or infect with a virus his phone. Most of the apps have a lite version that is as good as the paid one with a little restraint on the features.

Whats the Most Stock Rom?

So I thought I`d give CM a try but not sure if I like it, I really don`t want to have to use the tool to completely return back to stock as it erases the internal SD card, flashing roms and wiping with Clockworkmod does not erase my internal storage so if theres a almost pure stock rom what is the best one for that? Hi,
The most stock rom: [ROM] Google Nexus 5 [4.4.2] [STOCK] [10 Dec] [deodexed & odexed rom 4.4.2] or [ROM] [STOCK] Android 4.4.2 KOT49H - Rooted/Busybox/Odexed (12/10/13)...

I think the joke is that he won't know what fastboot is?

Are you kidding me? It`s not like I`m "New" Here I`m not arguing but I`m pretty sure I know what fastboot is as I have used it when I first went back to stock, and I extensively had to use it back on my HTC On. I get where your coming from as the nature of my question That I wanted to be stock away from stock if that makes since. I have loaded a ODEX Version of the rom I linked with Xposed & Gravitiy and running a custom kernel and things seem nice now

I didn't make the joke. I only explained it
Many users here use toolkits and learn nothing because they used them. You must forgive us when we joke about this sort of thing as it's just us trying to blow away some of teh frustration we have from trying to help people who have (Through no fault of their own) been suckered into the toolkit crutch

LOL. I havent used a toolkit in a long time and when I did it never really worked right lol. I`m the same way sometimes with the Joking . I have a thread on here for a guide to flash back to stock on the G2 and get a lot of (No OP readers) lol
Viking37 is right, the STOCK rom is the closet to STOCK you will get. Just download one of the two roms he linked and flash it like any other (custom) rom in CWR
This seems to be a "best ROM" thread that being said... Most ROM's have the "stock look: that you are looking for they just have extra options under settings. You don't have to change any of them. I recommend purity. I stay away from CM (just not a fan).
