I was wondering if there was a way to add this functionality to the nexus 5, I figure if one of the other crummy phones that Tmobile said its enabled on then the glorious master race of nexuses can surely run it all I'll need is some sort of mod to add the functionality
Any thoughts?
I don't think you need a modification to do it. It needs the network to have it.
I'm not sure of any of the networks have volte working yet. That's why the N5 drops to 3G for calls.
Edit: After some reading it appears you'd also need an update from the carrier. T-Mobile just turned theirs on in Seattle.

I have noticed that the hotspot in the N5 is not working like in my Gnex, I tried putting it in 3G and I still get the Tmobile webpage that my plan does not include this service. I use ultimate user switcher on chrome to hide that I am using a PC and even with that, it gets detected. Maybe it's Kitkat that is sending the report that I am using hotspot and Tmobile always knows when is active...
If anyone has this issue, let me know to see if I am the only one.

Hi all,
I got my phone 5 days ago and since then, it looses signal about 6 times a day in places where there is full signal.
I used to own Galaxy S2 and never had this issue before.
I'm using the same carrier and living in the same place so the only thing that has changed is the phone.
I was wondering if it's a known issue, if there's a fix or should I RMA this?
Thanks!
Happened to me until the updates. Are you on 4.4 still?
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Nope, as soon as I got the phone it was on 4.4.1 and then upgraded to 4.4.2
Same thing is happening to me, and from what I've Google'd, heaps of others as well.
Hoping 4.4.3 (or whatever they will call the next one) will fix these issues. I switched to a new carrier, to get the Nexus 5 (I could've stayed with my old carrier and got it, but I was unhappy with them). There is so many issues with the Nexus 5 and my new carrier, its not even funny.
I hate it when my phone LOSES the signal.
It still happens to me once or twice a day. Turning on airplane mode for a few seconds fixes my signal.
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Happens to mine constantly. Pos.

Have you checked your APN's in the phone at all?

Yes. The APN is set automatically.

With what can I compare it to? The way I was able to recreate this is when switching to 2G from 4G or 3G

Compare your APNS to your network standard APNS. Simply Google that and you should be able to find it. I would Google it for you but I don't know your network.

Just got my Nexus 5, coming from a Samsung Galaxy S 3. With the S3 I used to see LTE speeds around 25mbps, as high as 50Mbps when right next to a tower. Now with the Nexus I barely get over 1Mbps, what's the deal. Do I have to change something in the settings? My device says LTE and my signal strength is about 88-89 dbm.
Thanks for any help.

sounds like its an apn or on att side.
Yes I think i saw something about APN setting on Nexus a while ago. I'll see what I can find. Or if you have a link that would be cool!

Its an APN make sure its correct and your account is provisioned properly to that device

Followed the APN settings here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434995. It seems my APN settings are correct. I wonder if something is going on with the towers. I live in New Castle Delaware. I'll be going to Philadelphia later I'll check and see if I get the same results.
Problem solved! I didn't do anything special except put in a bunch of apn's that didn't do anything. Upon going back to original APN and doing a bunch of reboots and airplane mode it just started working. Speeds are very normal for my location.

After the latest S5 announcement I'm now ready for the n5. I am coming from S3 on sprint and for the time being I will stay with sprint. My question is...with Samsung s3 if I install a ROM any ROM CM for example the handover between LTE 3g 2g is sluggish I believe its because of some proprioty software (though I am not sure) is this an issue with the n5? Basically is this CDMA/LTE problem or Samsung?

Really nothing

Its a Sprint problem... Depends on the tower... Sprint used different hardware/contractors.

I understand that but the question surrounds the handoff when there is a custom ROM like CM. When using TW its an non issue. So my question is will the handoff be okay with N5 and CM because the N5 doesn't use the propriatory software Samsung does.

The short answer is yes...just not as bad..
Here is my experience:
I came from a Samsung galaxy nexus that I had about 4 different Roms loaded on. I could never find a 4.4 ROM that would do a good job on LTE/3g handoffs. My favorite ROM ended up being the Avatar 4.2 ROM.
With the gnex, I would be in a known 4g area but it would show 3g until I would cycle the airplane mode.
When I moved to the Nexus 5 three weeks ago, I was hopeful those issues would be over. Right now I'm rooted with the boot loader unlocked but running the stock ROM.
So. far I've tried 2 custom Roms but keep coming back to stock. I still notice the slow radio handoff but it is less frequent and not as often....but still there.
I hope that helps.
Yes it does ty.

So. I have looked, And looked. Tried XDA, android central, Google search. No answers. Even called Google about this. I had an HTC incredible s before the n5 running 4.0.4. I would be connected to my WiFi. Mobile data would be off. I would send a MMS. Mobile data would turn on, send the MMS and turn off. All the while WiFi was still on. Now after some search it seems this was a code I'm the framework of sense ROMs. The phone was rooted and running mike1986 ROM. Awsome feature. Fast forward to today. N5 will not let me do this. My wife's moto x is the same issue. Now I understand this is not a huge deal to some but to have to turn off WiFi to send AND receive even the notification of an MMS is annoying. Is there any way to get around this? I have tried 8sms, and another app. Can't remember the name. No luck. Thanks guys!
No one?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
@montrealer99 use textra does exactly that and can send sms and mms straight over wifi and it uses ur actual phone number
Thank you. Tried it today but still no luck. I find it hard to believe its so complicated for Google to fix this or at least add it as an option after 4.0
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So it seems that as a battery saving idea, mobile data gets turned off when WiFi is connected. Will not allow MMS to function.

Have you tried go SMS? My dad uses it & it has helped him.

Same thing. Now one person at my work has a n5 on a different carrier and it works. Another is on the same carrier as that person with a gs4 and it does not work. Both are running 4.4.2
