Bootlooping if flashing cm 10.1 and newer - HTC One S

Hi there! i bought an htc one s and managed to flash cm 10.0.0. to it. my problem is that when i flash a newer cm version it bootloops everytime. i have installed twrp 2.6.3.0. .
baseband version:1.08ts.50.02.16
kernel version:3.0.51
s-off, rooted, hboot 2.15, CID 11111111
radio 0.16.31501s
Please any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure that you flashed the right version? Cyanogenmod official is only for ville (S4) version. Are you sure that you didnt flash ville version on villec2 or opposite?

no i didnt update the kernel. is it important to update the kernel? and if so how can i do this? i did the wipes

Of course you must update the kernel. Extract boot.img from the ZIP and put it in your folder with adb.exe fastboot.exe etc. (On the computer) then restart the phone into fastboot mode (volume down + power and choose fastboot), shift right click in the folder on PC and choose open command prompt here. Now type here "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and wait till the operation is done. Then reboot and enjoy

you mean to extract the zip file of the rom i flashed and flash the boot.img of that rom via fastboot?i thought that its not necessary if you have flashed twrp 2.6.3.0. recovery

Yes! Its necessary if you're S-ON
Sent from my VilleC2 using Czech localised Tapatalk

If you're S-ON:
On windows 7, 8 click on ROM.zip. You will see "boot.img". Drag it with mouse on ather folder.
After you wipe everything, except SD CARD, instal rom.
After instal, reboot bootloader. Plug the cable. On phone screen you will have "Fastboot USB"
Open comand promt: ""fastboot flash boot boot.img".
On S-ON phone never work without this.

However you could still try to do that... Or maybe the download is corrupted, did you check the MD5 checksum? That could be also the problem.

[Q] Is flashing a kernel as easy as going to recovery and installing it?

Hi i'm new to the att htc one x, just rooted, and installed twrp... then flash cleanrom5. I also noticed clean has a kernel, i did not see an install guide, but i've installed kernels before on my captivate. So what i'm wondering if it's as easy as....
1. place kernel on phone storage
2. reboot into recovery
3. install kernel from recovery
4. reboot
If there anything i am missing or if i am completely off could someone please help me out with this?
Thank you :good:
If you are on the 1.14 hboot (rooted on 2.20 firmware) you can't flash kernels from recovery. You have to do it using fastboot.

Unless this makes any difference "CleanROM V is based on the latest Asian 2.29 RUU which is Android 4.0.4, Sense 4.1 and is ODEXED!"

Not the firmware you are on now. The firmware you originally achieved root on. More importantly, what version is your hboot (go to hboot, and the version number is listed)?
If your phone was purchased with 2.20 firmware, and you rooted using the new X-factor exploit method, you have the 1.14 hboot.
Hboot 1.14 plugged the hole by which flashing kernels from recovery was possible. So it can only be done by fastboot.

Well, If cleanROM is using the same Kernel as stock, then you got lucky. If they use the same kernel, no need to flash boot.img.
If they are different kernels and you dont flash boot.img, you are now in a bootloop

not bad
Sorry for so many questions lol, just making sure i do this right.
okay so basically i want to download the kernel and the fastboot drivers posted in your post.
Extract the fastboot drivers, and then unzip the kernel, taking the boot.img from it and placing it into the fastboot directory that i just unzipped.
I then want to boot my phone into hboot and select fastboot
open the command prompt and take it to where the fastboot.exe is.
then type fastboot flash boot boot.img into the command prompt
After all this is done i want to go into recovery and flash the zip of the kernel?
Is that all right?

Because the new hboot makes it to where you cant flash kernels through recovery. only fasboot
So why the second flash if the boot.img was flashed via fastboot?
I am just lost in these. Could you recommend any reading except this forum for me to get more understanding? So I don't do anything to my phone?

So although ROM zip file contains boot.img when flashing boot.img won't be flashed? That's why we need to flash is separately? Is it important to flash it before flashing ROM?
Thank you.R
I'm also, learning as I go. From reading and multiple failed attempts at flashing ROMs and kernels, I have found the correct way with 1.14 Hboot.
-dl the rom/kernel
-extract only the boot.img file
- save both .zip and boot to your desired folder.
-go into recovery and mount sd card to pc
-transfer .zip file to your phones sd card
-get back into fastboot on your phone
-transfer boot.img to fastboot folder
-from fastboot cmd prompt(if you have win7, open your folder with fastboot in it hold shift+right click and open cmd)
-type "fastboot boot boot.img" without quotes
-go back into recovery and clean cache/delvik
-then install .zip that you copied to the sd card
You should be good to go from there.
If I have left anything out, please feel free to correct.

Having bootloop issues after flashing a boot.img?

Say, do you have an AT&T HTC ONE X that was on the 3.18 Jelly bean update that you rooted and unlocked the bootloader? Say you made a backup before you did anything. Did you try to flash a rom and found out that with s-on you had to manually flash the boot.img? Notice how your back-up doesn't work and you are stuck in a bootloop. OOOH SPOOKY!! here is how you get around that.
This is assuming the backup was made while you were still on the original 3.18 update and you have a windows pc.
1. Download the boot.img. Its a boot.img from a stock att 3.18 rom.
2. go to where you have your sdk folder and put the boot.img in the "platform-tools" folder.
3.Get into the bootloader menu (turn off phone and then hold power+down)
4.Press volume down one time to highlight fastboot then press the power button to choose it.
5.Connect phone to computer and wait until red text (FASTBOOT) turns into(FASTBOOT USB).
6. Now open up cmd or command prompt
7.change the directory so that your are in the platform tools folder ( cd " " so on and so forth)
8. once in the platform tools folder and your phone still connected type in : fastboot flash boot boot.img
9.let it do its thing
10. Once done, disconnect, and try to boot again.
You should be past the bootloop and into your backup again!

Need Help:can't flash any recovery,RUU doesn't restore my soft,One S- no OS

Hi, everything messed up from using the stupid TWRP 2.6.0.0 .... I was going to flash a custom rom , but it didn't let me, so I did a little research that I need 2.3.3.0 in order to instal any custom rom.So I tried to switch to 2.3.3.0 but it didn't let me... after that I tried to push stock recovery and now i'm stuck at the white HTC Entering Recovery ( pink letters) screen, ( The recovery just doesn't load) ... I just want to finish with this , and go back to my stock htc rom with not roots or anything.. im tired of this seriously.....
When I try to run RUU I get stuck at the Black HTC Letters screen , the the setup stops and says that it will try to repair my phone, sadly with no result every time.. I think that I don't have any OS on my phone right now, because when RUU starts it shows :
Change image version from : ( blank space)
To: ..... bla bla bla , ( the version of the ruu) ...
I have no problems with entering fastboot and unlocking/relocking my Hboot.
Any help about restoringmy phone will be appreciated . Thanks , I'm online all the time so if I get any responses I'll answer quick.
P.S. I can't mount my usb storage from anywhere, and it doesn't show up on my PC when i connect the usb

Okay, just now I noticed. You used two Different RUUs for two different versions.
The 1st one is for S3/C2 version, the 2nd one is for S4 version.
Use This Thread to download RUU's only for your version (S4 or S3 whichever you have got). In your case, it does matter which RUU you use.
If you need any help further just ask away.
the thing is that the RUU doesn't get to the process of installing , and I have used those RUU's before....
I need some solution the get to a working recovery and instal some kind of OS because the last time I could get in my recovery it said that I don't have any OS installed...

okay you gonna need fastboot for this. What I have been successful with is:
1. Download an RUU (VERSION SPECIFIC!).
2. Go into Bootloader -> Then select FASTBOOT
3. Connect your Phone to PC. It should say Fastboot - USB mode.
4. Run the RUU, it will get you through all the steps.

2. Go into Bootloader -> Then select FASTBOOT
3. Connect your Phone to PC. It should say Fastboot - USB mode.
4. Run the RUU, it will get you through all the steps.

doesn't work as I've told you , it happens with every RUU ... I get the Black screen with white HTC letters...
I think that what RUU does is : it updates the version my software I think it just doesn't place a new software right away( just an update), but as TWRP said I don't have OS installed...
can anyone help me ?

Man you're making this difficult. The more I want to help you, the more you become hasty.
RUU doesn't do what you think. It puts New software, updates firmware (hboot, radio, RECOVERY), so yes it is basically a one-stop solution.
Please calm down as panicking won't help.
Tell me your One S version (S3/S4) at least? so that we can move forward in right direction. and also your CID
Tell me what recoveries and RUU you tried. and what errors do you get while you run them.
EDIT: Thanks to @tivofool I forgot to mention that you have to RELOCK your bootloader before running RUU
I'm with S3
I wrote the 2 RUU's I tried to use,
before that i tried TWRP 2.5.0.0,2.3.0.0.,2.6 and finally I flashed factory stock recovery that's it and both my carrier and bl are unlocked
P.S. : Yeah i knew about the relocking but still stuck on black screen with white HTC Letters

Black Screen with HTC is the oem update screen.
Okay do this please and we'll try to see if there's a problem with the HBOOT. Give me this info and We'll reflash HBOOT.
Go to fastboot and connect your phone to PC.
Enter this command from your PC:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
post results here (MINUS IMEI AND SERIAL #)
just a second, I got a working recovery... I mean i can get in it and everything and I can mount the USB Storage too.

That was fast.
I am using Viper ROM and it's very good. Customization and speed.
For a better battery life, BULLETPROOF KERNEL.
Edit: how did you get it to work by the way.
Viper rom is for s4 only isn't it ?

Oh yes sorry.
okay, so ... I'm going to explane everything I did, I hope I'll help some other people too.
I flashed TWRP from One_S_All-In-One_Kit_v4.0 but without luck, then i flash the factory stock recovery, still the phone was letting me into any of these two recoveries, then i decided reflash the same TWRP again and it worked,
First I couldn't mount the storage from the recovery , but it was still showing in "My Computer" , I had only one option and it was to Format the Storage. So I did.. then copied this rom with gapps on it ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2164406
Fully wiped --> Flash Rom , then Flash Gapps, ---> then I booted in fastboot to boot from CMD the "boot.img" with "fastboot flash boot boot.img" from the Pacman Rom and then I Rebooted the HTC and Done
Huge thanks to @khan.orak
I hope I helped someone with the same ****tyass problem.

TWRP for HTC One SV

I'm in need of TWRP or CWM and a stock back up for my Boost HTC One SV. All the threads I have found have dead links. If anyone could link me to these files I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm running Android 4.1.2 and need to restore to stock so I can apply the OTA update. I'm running into an issue because I removed my phones bloatware.
Thank you in advance,
Chris

HBoot = 2.00.4444
Is that the same as firmware or do I find that somewhere else?
Thank you so much.

Connect in fastboot mode. Open CMD in windows (I suppose you have installed adb/fastboot, if not --> DOWNLOAD it! ) and type "fastboot getvar all" and you will get a log. Delete imei/serial and post the log here Then i will get the right software for you

It goes through the whole process then when it attempts to write the image it says error writing image (I can run it again and snage a screen shot if it'd help). I had a custom recovery (CWM) but flashed the stock recovery the first time the OTA failed before realizing that it wouldn't work without the bloatware APKs anyways.
S-OFF makes it more easy. You probably first need to flash firmware.zip and then run the RUU. I'm downloading ATM. I'll send you the link when I got the right zip
DOWNLOAD firmware.zip
INSTRUCTIONS:
- extract boot.img + recovery.img from the firmware.zip
- flash both files via fastboot
- reboot bootloader
- type "fastboot oem rebootRUU" (RUU not ruu!!!)
- type "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" (It will show you "error 90" -> thats ok)
- type "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" (yes again and firmware will be flashed)
- type "fastboot reboot-bootloader"
- Run the RUU you already tried before.
IMPORTANT --> uninstall HTC Sync before flashing / running RUU

Thank you. I'm attempting now with the instructions you posted. I will post again with the results once I've completed all the steps.
I've made my first attempt. After typing "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" it went through with no "Error 90" (see screenshot), but my phone is on the black htc screen with the green progress bar stopped a few pixels short and nothing else happening. I've stopped here to double check before continuing to "fastboot reboot-bootloader". Is the process still going correctly or has something gone afoul?
Edit: I forgot to attach the screenshot...

Make sure flash the firmware.zip 2 times. Its ok if the progress bar stops. Thats why you need to reboot via command "fastboot reboot-booloader"
I'm off for a episode of "Game of Thrones". You should be fine with the guide. If not --> I'm back in about 1 hour

You are a savior. It worked flawlessly. I did have to install HTC Sync (an earlier version, I used version 2.4.11) and fix my drivers first. MANY thanks to you. I hope that I get a chance to pass this knowledge on to others.
I'm glad you got it Are you running the latest official version now?

Yes. I now officially have Android 4.2.2 w/ Sense 5.5. It's so pretty. I can't wait to play with all the new features and re-root my phone.
