Hi my first tablet was a xoom.
I've optimized it a lot since I first bought it.
My father has been meaning to get a tablet as well. And so I insisted he buy an older model tablet and save money and still get a great performance since I would "work my magic - all thanks to you guys at xda" to unlock it and install a custom rom for him.
He settled on the TF700.
Ever since we got it we had a bad connection with it. Compared to my xoom its day and night. Sure its a nicer tablet better resolution lighter slimmer. But a tablet with a lowsy wifi connection is rendered pretty useless.
I was pretty confident that installing a custom rom and have it overclocked it would perform better.
With Stock CROMI JB 4.2.1 installed I've noticed improvements... it opens apps quickly and runs smoothly, its only anything involving the internet that doesn't work well..
What can I do? Is it just a lousy wifi chip? is there an app I can get? Would installing the rom onto a microsd help? (Although he would prefer the slot to be free, that's why we opted for the tf700 over say a nexus 10).
If you installed a CROMi rom - that's quite old. You should move to CROMi-X 5.4.
The Wifi connection problem is not related to the rom you're running unless you flashed the WW version although you live in the US....
I've been following the clean roms for more than a year and I can assure you, that is not where the problem is. Everybody having problems with WiFi had them for some other reason.
Approach it from the router side. Reset it, change the channel, try WiFi fixer from the Play Store, turn off WiFi optimization in WiFi settings etc. and try the tablet on a different wifi network.

Okay great thank you, I'll try everything you've suggested and post my result.
He did mention getting better connectivity staying at a hotel...
So I tried everything and not seeing any improvement.
I checked and i always had the 5.4version so I didn't have to change that.
I got WiFi fixer and turned off optimization
Router wise I tried to add device to Mac filter tried to remove fire wall and pass word tried different channel and mixed b/g settings etc.
Tried with a different router as well.
Have yet to try static IP.
Its consistent its just the range. When I,m right next to my router I have no problem. But the range is so small with my Xoom I can be outside and still get reception.
Now I,d like to return it but I can,t un-unlock it and return it to manufacturer.
I,d sell it on swappa but who would want a defective tablet.

Mhhh - I seem to remember someone resolving a wifi connect issue by restricting the router to the n-band???
If you moved up to CROMi-X, try a different kernel or reflash the stock rom and check if it is any better on that.
Have you tried the tablet on any other wifi connection than the one at home?

I am not sure if you have a poor reception or a slow internet speed... If you have a poor reception, you can not do much because of your hardware or a low power of your wifi antenna... If you have a slow internet speed, you could try browser2ram to improve the speed. I found out that the TCP congestion control choice also helps your internet speed with a poor reception. You could try westwood congestion control too see if it helps, good luck...:fingers-crossed:

Well that helped I tried a different kernel and now I have reception about a room farther. Its almost bareable. I'll play around and try the other kernels. I went with the beta one not the extreme version.
Any kernel you might recommend?
At least this gives me hope there are tweaks out there I just have to find them...
I know its not the internet though I have excellent speed tests results. And performance on all my other devices simultaneously
Also does world wide or us SKU make a difference? And how can I tell if my tablet is us vs worldwide?

Ha! That could be it! WW (Europe) uses different wifi modules. If you chose the WW option in the installer and you are in the US or CN (or vice versa), that could make the difference.
sbdags has a kernel installer somewhere (in post 2 I think). Flashing that file allows you to change kernels on the fly without reflashing the whole rom. Although you will have to do that if you did choose the wrong region.
I recommend any of _that's kernels. They are the most stable IMO and give you the best performance unless you want to tweak scheduler, govenor, OC etc yourself.
I am noticing a similar issue. I am use @_that 10 with CROMI 5.4 and I cannot get speed test to do more the 8 Mbps download. My Galaxy S5 pointed at the same speed test server downloads at 30 Mbps. I have Verizon FIOS with a 25/25 connection and their WiFi N router.
I tried changing the IP congestion settings but it did not matter.
Just seems slow. I do not have an issue getting reception just slow speeds in comparison.
Any ideas? Is this speed normal?

I hope this information helps. I have a 45MBps for my cable modem and my internet speed test is shown on average during the day about 28-30MBps and 32-35MBps at late night on my device....
Edit: Are you using DSL or cable modem? My previous DSL internet provider is very slow too for some reason and maybe my location is too far from the internet provider but I have a better internet speed with cable modem... FYI

That tells me that my device should be doing better the 8Mbps it is showing in tests Now to figure out why.
All my other devices routinely get 25-30Mbps downloads except my TF700T.

It will be fun to troubleshoot the internet speed because there are so many variables that could slow down your speed. It could be the time of day and the internet traffic of the server. However, if it is consistently low comparing with your other devices, then the culprit is your setup on your device, good luck...:fingers-crossed:

Was wondering if anyone could help me.
I was loving almost everything about my elocity tablet, but wifi issues were same as initial g tablet.
Firmware came out yesterday that supposedly fixed this and for everyone in the main Elocity thread, it seems to have just done that.
I have applied it but have the following problem:
While I can see all the available networks, I cant seem to join any unless I am almost 5 feet from the router and despite seeing excellent signal I am only getting 1 mb/s link speeds. Rarely it wil go as high as five.
It is not a router issue as laptops and iphones connect fine. I have rebooted router and tried every permutation of wireless secuirty and wireless speed, b/g/n settings (the elocity is b/g only wifi). With no luck
Went to local McDonalds and could pick up 4 surrounding wifi networks with good to excellent signal and connected to them but again only a best of 1 or 2 mb/s.
I will be returning my device on account of this. Being in Canada I won't be able to get another (I am in USa with family for holidays for another week.)
I am hoping there is something in software I could do that might fix this as I like the device otherwise especially with quadrant scores in the 2400 range now.
I tried resetting the device and reflashing the firmware update to no avail. I don't know enough about android or linux to know if there is anything I can do delving deeper into the device to fix this?
It is almost like it only connects at wireless b and not g working so range is short and slow.
any thoughts or ideas before I send back as I have 2-3 days to wait for the RMA label.
Just curious... which WPA Supplicant file did you use? You should be using the one from page 50 of the other thread.
I'd say try installing the ElocityMod update.zip, but I lost root with that and am working on that before I can recommend it 100%.

I'm grasping for straws... I want this to work for you!
Hi, just got the 7+ for and early Christmas present and love it... except for one issue.
Downloads take far, far too long, and I while I've checked everything I know to check, I'm hoping someone here might know something else to do.
I can log into the market and Amazon, but a simple 3.5mb download will take upwards of 10-15 minutes to download. I have wireless n, and my rooted (from last year) Nook Color will download the same file on the same wireless network in seconds.
I did do the firmware update (literally 4+ hours! to download-I didn't know about Kies yet) and it seemed to increase the wifi speed somewhat, but not enough.
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated!
My WiFi speed is 16Mbps down/4Mbps up with speedtest app. So might be the problem of your network connection to Amazon, not the problem of device.
I get spotty wifi at work. Doesn't seem to like our access points, but at home it's perfect.

I still think it might be my 7+ I downloaded speed test, and did the test on my 7+, my Nook Color with an old rom, and a Nook Color I'm rooting for an Xmas present with a newer rom.
Samsung: 0.183/download 2.786/upload
Old Nook: 9.876/download 2.832/upload
New Nook: 12.002/download 2.781/upload
This is all on the same exact network, at the same distance.

Brand/model of router?
Opened my Tab 7+ Saturday night. After setup, it wanted to download updates for 5 different apps and software update (147mb). Was painfully slow. Left it downloading and went to bed. In the morning, it was finished with them all.
Re-booted and tried again. Market was terrible. Finally got the Speedtest.net. Ran the test and got 3547 kbps upload and 24 kbps download. Downloaded the same app on my droid x and gt 3647 kbps upload and 9734 kbps download.
Have a Linksys WRT300N V1.1. Rebooted it. No change.
Did a factory reset on the Tab. No change.
Called Samsung and was told this issue was being sent up to level 2 and someone will call me back. I asked when and was told 3 to 5 business days!?!?
Back to Fry's. They were awesome. Took it back and gave me a full refund.
The WRT300N might have had a firmware update since you purchased it, which would lead to issues with download speeds. I have a 160N where my Tab ran slow on WiFi but fast on other devices, once I updated the firmware everything worked well. The issue isn't always the device.

The guy at Fry's had the same problem on their wifi connection. Got to believe it is not my wifi. FWIW I updated the firmware beginning of the year.
My wifi is great in the room with the router. In the next room....not so much. Changing channels on the router did help some though.

Sure. 5 laptops (3 different brands) and 2 Droid phones (Droid X and Droid Incredible) having no problem. Must be the router. As I am going to pick-up a new 7 Plus tonight, I will ask which router they are using. Any bets?

And how old are the laptops? The Droid X and Incredible have a good year on them, meaning the WiFi Chip in them is most likely at least 1.5 years old. You forget that each WiFi device uses a different chip that IS older.
An example for you, I run an IT department, my boss just got a new iMac 21.5 inch. With this new computer, he is randomly losing all internet connection. My thought was that clearly there was a bad network adapter, so we took the computer back, and got a new one, same issue, clearly ruling out the network adapter. Then I looked for software problems, VMware fusion seemed to be the culprit, we didn't lose network connectivity with it not started. So we switched him to Parallels. Parallels resolved the issue temporarily. It came back.
Finally I plugged in a different router, a backup one I have just in case something goes wrong. Everything worked perfectly. The issue wasn't exactly the router 100% but a driver incompatibility with the unit that would kick itself off when the computer woke from sleep. Just because 8-20 devices work perfectly on a router doesn't mean a new one will also.
Well, as it turns out you folks are right. Got my new Tab home and had the exact same problems. After 30 minutes downloading the speedtest app, got the same readings as the last tab. Noticed another wifi connection available in my list. No security activated. Gave it a try. Ran the test again and got 100 times the download speed.
Going router looking Saturday morning. Any advice on what I should look for?
HD TV with smart tv
the 5 mentioned laptops (btw two of the laptops were Christmas presents this year)
two desktop computers (one wifi connected and one wired)
and my tab.

Since you have so many different devices. I would strongly recommend a dual-band router. The reason being single band routers only broadcast using one frequency usually 2.4Ghz or 5.0Ghz but dual band routers can do both simultaneously. This should ensure compatibility with all of your devices. Here are a link from newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...10076 600107140&IsNodeId=1&name=Up to 600Mbps
Well, gotta say thanks, and admit that you guys were right... it was our router too...
We did exchange my 7+, and bought a second one for the hubby, but were still having the slow downloads.
I checked the thread, (my notifications stopped for some reason) and saw the comments about a dual band router. Since our router was close to three years old, the hubby bought a Linksys e4200, and what a difference!
7+'s are now zipping along, loading pages immediately, downloading in seconds, and his laptop is also doing the same
Thanks guys, you're awesome!
Got this one at Frys today. What a difference. Download speed went from 37 kbps to 15159 kbps.
http://www.netgear.com/home/products/hometheater/networking-for-home-theater-and-gaming/WNDR37AV.aspx
Thanks guys
With the new router, my download speed went from 183 kbps to 9334 kbps!
I expect it'll be even better when we're not streaming Netflix and downloading audiobooks for the hubby at the same time
Found the Fix
Hey everyone,
I also recently bought the 7+ and my connection was incredibly slow as well. I believe I have actually found the culprit, at least on my router. Using an app called Network Tester I found out that I was getting extremely high pings to just my router, while my internet connection (when it got through) was speedy. After spending a few hours on my router's settings (Netgear WNDR3800), I stumbled upon a setting called RIP under LAN Setup. I read about it on Wikipedia and decided to enable it and give it a try, couldn't hurt right? Well after switching it to enabled using version 2_M, the 7+ works like it should!
Seems in the few reviews I've read Wi-Fi signal strength is not all that great, and this worries me. Last year when I had the HTC Sensation it also had really bad Wi-F reception, often dropping signal when I went in certain rooms in my house.
Would really appreciate some feedback from those already using the Rogers or AT&T version of this phone. Is Wi-Fi signal strength good, bad, or somewhere in between?
I personally don't have my phone yet, should be getting it this friday. However other people have been reporting that the Rogers version has had spotty wifi reception.

Yeah that thread actually made me create this one. I want to know if others are having issues or if its just certain routers.
Hopefully someone with the AT&T version can chime in pretty soon.
might be worth researching if it was an 802.11a/b/g/n router it was communicating with, and what chipset the router uses. Make/model can figure that out though.
Yep, I can confirm that the WiFi has been a bit spotty. Not horrible. When I'm in my living room, maybe 10-15 feet from the router, it's aces. In my bedroom though, through 2 walls and maybe 50 feet away, it can go up and down, but I've only noticed it once or twice in the past week.
Once, however, as I was leaving work for the day, the phone reported that it was still connected to WiFi, even once I got a mile or so down the road. I had to turn wifi off/on again before it resumed normal operation.

Yeah, I am hoping that the AT&T version doesn't have the same problem too. I know that the Rogers and AT&T version are the same hardware but it seems like it is a software issue.
Hopefully, *fingers crossed* the AT&T version doesn't come with the same problem and has already fixed the problem in the software.

I think I read on here or Android Central that someone played with one in the AT&T store and said the Wi-Fi was fluctuating like crazy.
So I'm sure the AT&T will be the same.

Yeah, someone here wrote that and it will likely have the same problem unfortunately. However, we don't know at the store how far away the router is or even how good the quality of the router is.
So you have to make sure you base your analysis on where the problem lies by first having a baseline. Meaning right now I know that with my iPhone my wifi work very well and has great coverage with my Cisco E4200. So once I get my HOX I can then compared it to see what the difference is.
Follow a process like that then we will be able to tell for sure if the AT&T model does have a wifi problem and it is a problem with the handset and not some other external factor.
Same problems here ...

Regrettably, I seem to be having similar problems. Like you, I also get situations where my phone reports that it's still connected to my WiFi network, both at work or at home, yet I could be 1-2km down the road.
I certainly hope this issue is resolved soon. I use an automatic profile manager that needs to detect WiFi connections/disconnects accurately.

that's exactly what that option does. starts to kill the wifi in order to improve battery life. I think it increases speed/range when the screen is on, but it's still never set to maximum power/speed.
I think we are going to have the same issues as the Rogers version. I've played with the demo unit at the Corp store several times and had wifi drop out about half of those. The signal strength was full, but that's all I know of their setup. Today I had to turn wifi off and then back on before it would even connect. It's a bummer that HTC has done such wonderful job on everything else, but we still have spotty wifi on their flagship device. I am preordering tomorrow anyway though. Hope it can be fixed with a software update down the line.

I'll test with this setting on today and see how it effects my wifi performance / battery. When I was running b/g/n on my router I did speedtests with the option both on and off and it made absolutely no difference in the speeds and the connection would still drop off. Literally right next to it my iPhone constantly got 6-8 mbps.

I remember with the dreaded HTC Sensation, wifi would often cut in and out and data speeds would be very poor. Looks like HTC's bad habits didn't die young.
AS i mentioned in previous posts. I am having the same wifi issues and i'm on my second HTC one xl. They both have poor wifi performance. I also have the problem where it sometimes stays connected when i leave the house and im 3 km's away.
Feel a little better as the International version got a new update tonight which supposedly resolves the Wi-Fi bug. So hopefully we'll get an update relatively soon.

I contacted HTC with all these bugs. Hopefully, they give me a response. If they do, i will post it here in the forums.
Hi,
This is a weird Internet problem so I think this is the best place for this.
I have a 1Mbps broadband connection with a Modem+Router.
Now I get download speeds upto 120-130KBps on my PC (connected via LAN), my laptop (via Wifi) and my phone, the Galaxy S2 I9100 (via Wifi again) and my sister's Galaxy S3.
I get smooth surfing speeds with normal loading pages on my PC & Lappy.
The problem is that surfing speed on my and my sister's phone is extremely slow. Be it the Facebook app, Tapatalk app, normal pages in the Stock Browser, Opera Mini, anything.
Everything is slow as a snail.
No background downloads, cloud backups or any network hogging resources run in the background.
Both phones are stock, unrooted, untouched, JB 4.1.2, so no ROM troubles.
Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be?
Because it is really weird that download speeds are fine but surfing speeds suck so bad.
Also, if it might help, 3G works excellent on both devices.
And recently I factory resetted/formatted my phone, the S2.

Maybe your wireless connection is slow. Is there any downloading in background? Try disconnect one of your connected devices

That is a very slow connection.
But you need to troubleshoot it by first: make sure that you have a secure connection between your router and your devices.
So make sure your router is running wpa or wpa2 with a good key.
Next: you should disconnect each device and test network speeds to determine which device is the one causing the issue.
Then if that does nothing you should make sure that you are not too far from your router.
Because that would cause it to drop packets and slow down the transfer speed.
It might seem slow as per worldwide standards, but it actually is good enough to watch YouTube videos at 360p without buffering
Also this is a recent problem and before this everything worked absolutely well.
The security is set as WPA/WPA2.
I've tried sitting next to the router, doesn't make a difference.
I'll check connecting each device one at a time though.

the internet browsing speed varies as per the connectivity over wifi... if ur signal level is poor the speed will be much slower than u connection speed.. so check ur wifi range ....

Well I tried the individual connection as well. And the problem persists on both the S2 & S3.
The laptop works just fine. But the surfing on the phones is really bad! While surprisingly downloading or buffering a video is fine.
This is so weird!
I open the Youtube app and it opens slow as hell, loads thumbnails in years then I click a video it takes more time to load but then plays without a hiccup on HQ..

Already tried sitting next to the router as well. No luck.

Next up is to try a different router or a neighbor's setup to determine if there is an issue with the antenna (or software) between your router and phones.

This will take some time since finding another router is tough around here.
I'll try to find another wifi to connect to.
If I make a wifi hotspot on the S3 and connect my S2 to it, will it be a suitable way to test?

yep.
If it works fine then the router is the issue. (Ping tests)
If it doesn't work fine then you need another router to test.

Wifi is weird(it always has been) on all the samsung roms.
Like a user once reported that he sees constant transfer on his phone at his home network but not at work and he even used droidwall to block all connections.
I don't know about that. This problem has occurred only once before and lasted 2-4 days, then automatically resolved. This time it's been almost a week.
Apart from these 10 or so days, I have never had an issue with Wifi.
Also I tried browsing on a wifi hotspot by making S3 a hotspot and using on S2 and vice versa, both worked great.
So it's definitely some issue with the router. But I cannot call someone to replace it because my laptop works just perfect on it's wifi!
So maybe some settings have been altered or messed with?
I can get you some screenshots of the modem interface page that my network provider gives.
This solved my problem.
Linking so that someone else with this annoyingly stupid problem can find a solution too!

I'm back in love with my Transformer since installing KatKiss Rom. However, my download speed is about 1/10th of what it should be. When running the speedtest.net app I'm getting about 3.7Mbps download and upload was the normal (for me) 10Mbps. My dl speed should be closer to at least 40-45 Mbps. I've search for similar issues however have only been able to see problems people have with the inability to actually connect. I can connect to the network/Internet with not problem there. It's just my dl speed is significantly slower than it should be.
Any ideas or suggestions on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Sorry, forgot to add, I'm running KatKiss 4.4.4_32b

Thanks for the reply but I had already checked that. Besides, if that was set incorrectly, wouldn't that prevent any connections at all? My problem isn't a connection issue. It is a speed issue.
Try KK #33, maybe it has been fixed since 32b
Im running #33 and have no speed issues

I was thinking of doing that however I was hoping there was another option. I thought it was funny that my Transformer hasn't already informed me that there was an update available. Oh well. I'll try and get to it sometime this weekend. Unfortunately, homework takes priority. Only 10 more weeks until I graduate with my BSIT!!
Generally only stock ROMs get OTA updates, Custom ROMs need updating manually, iirc back in the days, one of the custom ROM devs did manage to get OTA updates running with his custom ROMs, but never seen that again for years
Need to keep checking the dev thread for new custom ROMs, everything is manual apart from app updates
Good luck with your BSIT

Well, tried to upgrade to v33 but still no go. Wifi speed is still about a 10th of what it should be. I'm definitely connected but not very fast. Also, I forgot to mention it in my previous posts but the auto-rotate function doesn't work either. It will open apps in the orientation that the app needs but will not switch between land and port when rotated on the home screen.
I'm going to try an earlier version (4.4.2 v26) because I've read that this might fix the auto-rotate issue at least.
Still lovin the Rom...just a couple hiccups that need to be ironed out.

Well, installing KatKiss Rom 4.4.2 v26 didn't resolve either issue. Anyone have any other ideas? TIA
Have you seen faster speeds than that with the TF101 before?
You'll likely only connect at around 65Mbps with the TF
With a Wireless G 54Mbps you get about 20-30Mbps because of overheads (Encryption etc)
That results in around 2-3MB/s real world download speeds
So with 65Mbps, you won't see a great deal more than that
Plus those speedtest apps are pretty crappy if Im honest, best to download something you get good speeds on your PC from, and test it on the TF

I was using the Speedtest.net app. Same one I use on all my computers and devices. I'm at work by my wife has the same tablet as I do however her's isn't rooted and has the original OS. I'll test her Wifi speed to be sure I'm reporting correctly. I'm pretty sure I am though. :cyclops:
I'll report what my wife's native T101 Wifi speed is later tonight.

Just tested my wife's stock, unrooted T101 Wifi speed and it is running well over 35 Mbps. 10 times faster than my T101 using the same router, same room, etc.
I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Status update:
I've tried two different Recoveries (CWM & TWRP) and two different ROMs (KatKiss and OmniROM). All have installed with no problems however I still haven't resolved the slow download speed issue. I'm still baffled as to why my upload speed is normal. Side by side comparison with my wife's non-rooted stock TF101 in the same room had normal download speeds which were 10 times as fast as my TF101.
Any other ideas I can explore?
Using 4.4.4_034 in the US I had to choose "EMEA & rest of world" to get 36Mb/s.
This amazing WiFi app might not help you now, but it could down the road: http://surl.im/PkSQn

Bit of a strange one indeed, you could try changing router settings just in case, change the wireless channel to a clearer one, as above use WiFi Analyser to check the best channel to use
Other options would be to clear the DHCP pool on the router, forcing all devices to reconnect on a new IP
On the tablet side, you could try setting a static IP instead of using DHCP
Try a different DNS server, not that it should affect the download speed, but 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are Googles public DNS servers
(Gateway is the IP of your router)
Solved - Still not sure why though.
I've somehow solved my download speed issue. I took my tablet to work and discovered that my WiFi speeds were what they should be so I knew it wasn't a device issue. Brought it back home and connected to my home wireless and found my speed issue was miraculously fixed. I'm still not sure why but I'm guessing something was reset or timed out in the router to where the tablet was now a new device. I don't know why removing the device from the network for a few hours would have a different effect than a manual reboot of the router. I guess I'll keep this in my bag of network troubleshooting tricks for the future.
Pleased you got it sorted
