Wifi keeps turning itself on - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Updated to KitKat. Unlocked bootloader, rooted.
Noticed for the last couple days whenever I turn my wifi off (because of poor signal, fact I'm at work, whatever), it turns itself back on within minutes. Tried to find any kind of setting that might be doing this, but no luck. A search reveals similar issues with some sprint phones, but nothing with the Razr Hd. Is there any way to stop the wifi from turning itself back on? If I wanted it on, I'd manually do it.

Never mind. I figured out it was an app I was using causing that. Weird that I first noticed it after I updated to KK.

SIM/phone does not turn on every other reboot

Ever since upgrading to AT&T 2.2, I have a had an issue that on every other reboot, the phone radio does not turn on. I am not getting a SIM error, or any other error indication, nor does the phone go to airplane mode (bluetooth and wifi work). If I check phone settings, I get phone # unknown and no phone signal. Once I shut the phone down and turn it back on again, phone service is back.
I'd suspect a SIM issue, but this did not happen on 2.1. Could this be a bad flash (I could not get Kies Mini to push the firmware, I had to install via Odin)? Has anyone else seen this kind of flakiness?
Bump
Is anyone else seeing intermittent issues of the phone thinking it doesn't have a SIM installed? The good news is that I have not had two reboots in a row with this problem, the bad news is that I do see this on nearly 50% of boots.
I dont have the problem, if it does happens it only happens like once a week for me, it usually fixes it by going into airplane and back to regular

I tried that. On my phone, that does not remedy the situation. The SIM itself has not moved since the update (I can't remember if I pulled it when I ran the upgrade), so I don't think it's a loose contact.
att can fix
Bring the SIM and phone into ATT, they will fix it for you there, hopefully for free, that could work, just unroot before and unflash if you did, then say you have SIM problems and then tell them that you had it in during the update, sometimes that causes problems
I have this same issue. Yesterday after about 5 reboots the phone would not pick up any signal... at times and after several minutes, some signal would show up and then disappear again... After about the fifth time, I turned off WiFi, because it had been on the whole time and that fixed the problem. Signal came back after a while and was stable. Turning WiFi back on did not bring back the problem. I guess Froyo just does not like the WiFi being on when booting the phone. Hopefully this can help others fix this same issue when encountered.

[Q] almost want to return my trans! problems with shut off and wifi!!

my transformer is acting strange. not sure if it's by design or a glitch.. but i hate it, almost to a point i want to return it and get an Acer..
If i dont use the trans for a while, the wifi diconnects itself, which is what i want. But when i wake the screen, it stays disconnected and will not auto connect. so i try to connect manually, it will not connect at all. keeps saying out of range when i know for sure it's in range. so i have to shut it down and turn it back on everytime to connect. F-ing annoying!!
and if i dont use it overnight or something, the next morning it's turned off, and i can't turn it back on the normal way. i have to hold down the volume down button and power button at the same time to power it on.
anyone experiencing similar problems??!!
WTF!!!
I think you have a faulty unit as I am not having any of the problems you mention, WiFi is rock solid, have been able to connect from standby immediately after pressing power button even after prolonged periods of time on standby.
The only time I had to reset it was once when i installed a battery widget that was not showing after installation, tried a reset which solved the problem.
I have not had this problem once since i received the unit on Thursday. I have even connected it up to 4 different wifi networks and have not had a problem reconnecting to my home when i return.
It could be your access point causing the issue. When i first got my Epic 4g, it could not keep a connection to my 6 year old linksys router. I then purchased a buffalo tech N router and have not had any problems since. The Epic and Transformer now behave as they should.
Try updating the firmware on your wifi unit or purchase a new one.

I'll see if my firmware is up to date on my router. hopefully that's the problem... but that doesn't explain the other problem, It shuts off by itself.
Do any of yours shut themselves off after say a night of no use?
The only time I noticed mine shutting off was when I carried it in a bag but I think this was caused by pressure on the power button whilst in transit, never noticed it any other time.
My wife's android phone had a similar issue with wifi. It wouldn't reconnect after going into standby, and I would have to reboot the phone. I just set the wifi sleep policy to never, which is the same preference I have on my phone. Honestly there is very little effect to battery life on an android phone. However, if wifi shuts off on a phone it would just use 3g instead also using battery. I assume if the wifi goes asleep on the tablet, you lose any push notifications. I plan on leaving mine on for notifications. (Getting delivered today)
Definitely a faulty unit, mine is always connected to WiFi when I wake it. Never had it turn off on its own either.
Make sure wifi sleep policy is set to never, and if you're still having issues, I'd do a wipe of the device could just be some corrupted app or file.
Doesn't sound normal at all. Tough decision as you can't just return it and get another because of the short supply. So far my transformer is exceeding my expectations. This is one hell of a deal at $399, and really makes you wonder what other manufacturers are thinking charging a tablet more than $400.

I don't know about your wifi issue but the sleep problem is a known issue that many others have had problems with. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
There have been updates to the Wifi driver in the last two FOTAs, maybe when ASUS re-releases those updates it might help.

I did do a master reset and the problem did not go away. and my trans in on never disconnect wifi mode. i'll try another reset tonight see if that helps. maybe i still have some battery saver app that's screwing everything up. this sucks! if i can't get this fixed, i'll return it and get one later when the stock is replinished. The initial honeymoon period is about worn off anyway, i can wait now...
Have you tried this on a different router? The problem may be with the router instead of your tablet.

Mine did this to me once or twice - but I think it is related to the lock screen issue described elsewhere in the forum. Basically, when I got up in the morning, it appeared to be "off" - but I think it was just an issue powering up the screen. I had to hold the power button for a good 10 seconds (to actually shut it down) and then power it back on.
I disabled the lock screen and haven't had the problem since then. I'd really like to re-enable the lock screen though at some point, so I hope they get the issue resolved.
Definitely seems like a bug - but certainly not something that has cropped up for me since disabling the lock screen.

airplane mode goes on automatically

So I'm new to the Droid Charge and still running stock. For whatever reason I've noticed lately that my phone will randomly show no signal and a lot of times when it does its because airplane mode has turned on by itself. Now I've been on Verizon for years and never had a problem losing signal in my house so it has to be a phone issue. Anyone else ever have this problem? any fixes?

I had that problem a little while ago, however I had just flashed a rooted custom rom. What fixed it was wiping and going back to stock then completely reflashing the rom and setting it up from scratch, I guess something modem or framework related messed up during that first flash but its been a few weeks and seems to be fine now

Random reboots all of the sudden!

I have had this phone for a couple months rooted it as soon as I got it. I have been running CM7 on it and it has been going good but about 2 days ago out of the blue it just started randomly rebooting and shutting itself down. Is this a known issue with this phone or is it possible the rom I am running is the culprit? If so what is the most stable rom out for this phone right now?
i just bought the phone and it did that 3x a day until i removed the battery and then put it back in. i then fully charged it, with it powered off, and it doesn't do it anymore...

Track back what apps you've been installing/using over the past few days. 99% chance it is the app that just does not sit well with your phone. I have CM7 on mine and it is rock solid and have always been.
Mine started doing the same thing around the same time. Weird. Ever find a fix?
I've seen the problem on my phone... originally I though I had a corrupt SD card, but that's not it. The one posting I saw somewhere that resulted in a response that said "that works" was the one where someone disabled the advanced wifi sleep policy. If you go to Wifi settings to where you view the available networks, and then click on the menu button there is an Advanced option. Under the advanced option you can set the Wi-Fi Sleep Policy to sleep "Never" according to the post I read.
I have no idea whether this works-- I recently did a factory reset for something else, and this always works temporarily to stop the reboots. Can't hurt to try.

Help with 7Pro connection issues

Hello guys. I'm at my wits end and looking for some help.
I bought a new still sealed in the box Oneplus 7 pro off ebay back in April. Bad idea I know. Everything has been fine up until earlier this month when I started to notice that often times when I looked at my phone it would have no signal. After a few minutes it would reconnect automatically. I thought it was Straight Talk at first but it started to happen more and more frequently, and eventually it no longer would reconnect on its own. Since I was frustrated with the service I was getting with Straight Talk I switched to Verizon and the problem persisted. The phone will work fine for 10min, an hour, or half the day. Suddenly it will completely lose all signal. I've tried turning data on and off in the quick settings, or removing the sim card and reinserting and neither will not work. The only sure way to get the data back on is I either have to restart the phone, or turn the data on and off in the dialer diagnostic menu. Those are the only 2 ways to always get the data back on. After it comes back on it will work for several minutes to half the day before losing connection again.
Im currently running 10.3.3, but before this I was on 10.3.1 and had the same issue. I have reset the phone countless times, reinstalled the OS multiple times, tried different network types in the diagnostic menu and nothing works. I don't believe its a hardware issue because switching the data on and off in the diagnostic menu always works.
Does anyone have any clue whats wrong and what I should do? Thanks in advance.

at this point, you could try the opened beta https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/beta-15-rolling-t4114211. you could also try a different kernel to see if that helps.
I finally got off the stable and updated to the beta and the problem persist. Is there like a baseband firmware that I can flash that will upgrade the radio in the phone? Maybe that would work.

I had that happen to me with an old device when I would select LTE only on my device. Have you tried changing the band from 2/3/4 G to only 2/3 G. This is not a solution to correct your problem, only a test to determine if your signal will remain constant.
Also, since your got the phone BNIB may need to contact 1+ support directly, as I believe you should be within the 1 year manufacturer warranty.
