Unable to take photos: timing of flash / capture not in sync - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EVERY time I take a photo running the stock camera app, if flash is enabled (auto or manual), the phone saves a picture file a split second after the flash is back off-resulting in a dark photo saved. I have turned on an off HDR with no change (thinking it would be affecting the timing somehow).
The only way the flash is of any use is if I start to record a motion video file (with flash on the whole time) then touch the screen to capture still photos. Then the photos are lit up perfectly.
Has anyone seen this before? Any tips to fix?
I have had this issue on two Droid Maxx phones now. one unlocked bootloader downgraded to 4.2.2, the other with rooted on 4.2.2 (shipped with camera update firmware, disabled firmware upgrades on purpose to prevent 4.4)

Same thing often happens to me. It isn't every time I use the flash, but probably 75%. Once it does this crazy flash thing, then the camera no longer zooms properly until I close out of the program and reopen. It happens with the stock camera and 3rd party (camera360).

[Q] seeking specific camera (and other) functions

hello.
haven't been on this site for quite some time, but i am familiar with using custom roms.
i'm using an htc desire s with android 4.0.4, stock rom from htc site.
there are certain things i like about ICS, and other things that simply boggle me.
i've been considering using a custom rom again, but i was hoping someone could shed some light on specific features/functions.
in other words, i would be changing to a custom rom if one is available that has these features, otherwise i'll just leave it alone.
firstly: the camera.
when trying to take up-close photos (macro), the camera will attempt to focus, will succeed, then quickly snap back to being blurry. this happens less with "auto focus" turned off, but it's still frustrating (i can see the hardware moving the camera focus to where i want it, but i can't keep it there). turning on the Scene called "close up" will allow the hardware to stay in the focused range, where i want it, but it overrides the white balance, such that i can't adjust the white balance any more, and the colour is always -always- different from the colour settings in the "auto" Scene setting. very frustrating indeed.
that's problem one.
but the bigger problem (with the camera) is:
when taking a photo where a flash is required/desired (in low lighting), i have to take many -many- photos before i happen to roll the dice and get one in focus. basically, holding up the camera to the darkened scene, the screen is mostly dark. i can take a photo with the flash, but the camera uses the same moment of flash to implement the focus, which is essentially entirely useless. in other words: dark scene, dark screen, flash ready, click to take a photo, flashtrytofocustakepicture = blurry picture. the picture only turns out well if the focus happens to catch in just the right way at the right time.
in contrast, while the stock camera app behaves this way, when i use google goggles, the camera behaves differently. there is a simple button which turns the led light on and off BEFORE taking a picture, which means the focus can function normally on a fully lit scene and then a picture can be taken, in focus. funny thing about that: the photo result that shows as a preview (immediately after snapping a photo in google goggles) is the desired photo, however it is not the photo that the app recognises nor which is saved on the sd card. anyhow, that's a different issue.
the point is: it seems clear to me that the hardware is capable, and the software is capable, but they have not been married correctly in 4.0.4.
would anyone be able to confirm whether another rom or camera app has the macro and light-before-focus capabilities described above?
i have some other questions about the way text copy and paste is implimented, but i'll just stick with the camera question for now.
thanks in advance for any information.

[Q] Camcorder issues - need suggestions to narrow down issue

Ok so recently ive been having issues with my MTS4G (it used to work fine so i dont believe its a rom issue) - but i am running KK DS1.2 - which is awesome. I still miss the original sense based camera and as such have set out on a missin to find the best camera app--- hence i have the stock KK camera (i.e. camera) as well as following apps installed:
1) Ucam
2) Focal
3) camera zoom
4) procapture
5) camera KK
Again dont think its the rom , but for 2 weeks now (ive had rom for say several months now) , but when i switch to camcorder (stock KK camera app) mode and preess record all i see is a "halo" around the record button, at which time the video being displayed on phone (which is supposed to be recording) freezes for a second, then resumes as if it were recording. but i see no recording notice, or any timer indicating its recording and the default app (on a good day) makes 0 (zero) byte mp4 files. Not sure where to start i see that KK DS 1.3 is out, but was hoping to figure out what might be the cause of the issue.
I do see that when i press the record , the LED fires up as it used to , but it just doesn't seem to record anything.
Perhaps i have too many camera apps (was trying to compare and find best one) - but my camera with all the apps works great, but after several months of using the camcorder (in ANY app) i cant get it to work at all --- the led light comes on, but it doesn't seem to record anything.
suggestions?

[Q] Weird camera flash issue

I usually don't take pictures with flash, but today I noticed that the flash doesn't work properly in the camera app. When I try to take a picture, the the flash lights up while the camera is focusing, but when the actual picture is being taken it remains off, resulting into a very dark picture. I am running stock 4.4.4 + elementalx kernel. Has anyone else noticed something similiar and have any idea how to fix this?

Camera and Flash start slow after root

My camera starts only very slow since I have rooted my device. Only root with Lollipo 5.1 no custom rom.
When I click to open the camera, a black screen pops up and I have to wait for 5 seconds until I can use the camera.
Same when I want to use the flashlight in the dark. It takes 5 seconds for it to start and 5 seconds to turn off. When shooting a picture after the camera has started, the flash works normally.
Another problem I have is, when shooting a picture, I have to hold the camera very calm because I found a setting to change the picture quality to "High quality, slow shoot" and this affects the speed when taking a picture. Unfortunally this setting seems to have gonne. I upgraded to Android 5.1 and since than I cant find it anymore.
Has anyone a idea what could cause these problems?

Camera Flash Focus Question

Hello
I have bought a new OP7 Pro and I updated immediately to Android 10 beta 2.. no my smartest move apparently.
When I'm trying to focus in the dark with the main camera app just by tapping the flash does not turn on at all.. and if I try to take the picture the flash turns on and stays on like a torch not by flashing for a fraction of the second like a normal camera on any smartphone.
First I thought it is a hardware based problem and I should return the phone / I still have 10 days to do so.
Then I've installed a different camera app called LG camera and surprise! Tap to focus in dark environment turns on the flash and the camera manages to focus also when I tap to take the picture the LED only turns on to .1 seconds and works normal.
Tried a version on Gcam and it doesn't work either..
I tried the following:
- cleared data and forced stop the main camera app
- factory reset
Thank you in advance for any ideas.
Camera flash
Hello, I also have the same problem with my op7pro I don't have a fix for it yet.
Does it work with the latest stable?
