Custom Rom Help - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hey guys,
I am new to HTC, been with the samsung family for a while, but now have the M8.
Just wondering what are the steps needed to install a custom rom?
I know that root is required and I found the videos post how to do it, but not sure if that is all I need, or what else. I am smart phone savvy but not very customizing savvy lol so any guided would be greatly appreciated

You need root, S-off and a custom recovery

[Q] n00b help for reverting to stock...

Hi guys,
Hate to be such a wanker, but I'm looking for help with what should be an easy procedure. I've tried looking through the forum for help, but the advice I find seems a little over my head.
When I got my Note 10.1, I rooted and installed cyanogenmod. I didn't really understand what I was doing, but closely followed instructions and everything worked out alright. I now want to revert to stock, but am confused on how to do that. Do I have to download the official file, or do I recover it on the system (I'm in Canada). Do I need to back up my files?
Any online tutorial you can point me to would be great.

You can learn most of these from YouTube or XDA as nothing can't be learned, at least for the basics such as rooting and rom installation, just look around the forums and try to understand everything first before doing anything with your device...
