rooting!

just installed gingerbread on my htc desire hd. and now my root has gone. i know VISIONary wont work on this yet so is there any other way to gain root access??
Hard to say. Sometimes official updates are designed by the carrier along with the manufacturer to disable any root access. If it was an update that required a wipe first, then definitely root will be lost.
Sometimes it's better to find a ROM that has a great reputation for frequent updates and stick with them, however, if you've lost root thanks to the latest update then you may be waiting a while for someone to figure out how to root this latest update to your phone unless you made sure to get something on there like RA that will let you wipe the phone and restore from a previous nandroid backup.
Gingerbreak...
hey could u please explain to me how u installed the gingerbread on ur htc desire hd...i have an unrooted one so idk if its possible to install the new gingerbread RUU but my downgrading process keeps failing (CID Error). I've got my phone running on 1.84.720.3...if you could please help me I would really appreciate it.
However, I've read around the forum and people are claiming that you can reroot your phone with Gingerbreak. Im not sure exactly how..im really new to this but im sure you can find out how to use gingerbreak by searching for it...

you mean the CID on making a gold card. how are you making the gold card?? with hex editing or with a software that does it for you?? i found i had the same problem so i used a hex editor, then worked first time. whats your email, i will send you all the links i used
finally got it to work. Now officially running gingerbread have u tried to gingerbreak? Also is there anyway to restore the applications from the SD card to the phone without the apk file?
well im not quite sure about the apps as i havent really messed around with it myself yet :/ i have tried doing the gingerbreak but came across a few problems, but i will carry on and keep trying how did you manage to sort your CID issue??
Yeah finally got the goldcard to work haven't tried to gingerbreak yet...not sure if its worth rooting since I already have gingerbread with sense running...any reason I should root?

[Q] new to forums.. info required on 4.4.1 pls

hi guys,
i read somewhere in this site that you have to unroot to get the 4.4.1 OTA... does this mean that stock android will never get updated?...or is this update not officially launched by google to the masses but just to the developers? pls im new to android and would like to know what the deal is here.
also i have no problem unrooting but i heard that you will stop getting OTA's and will have to side load all new updates everytime and you will also void your warranty...which im in two minds about
No you dont need to be unrooted to update your android version.
You need to have the stock recovery and rom. The update isnt available for everyone yet
you will get a update notification just wait

You technically voided your warranty when you rooted. But no big deal.
You can download the update and sideload on your own, or wait for the OTA to come to you. If all you have is root, stock recovery and no system mods it will update on its own.

Hi do not worry. Those posts really do not apply to you yet. You have a phone that is stock meaning, you bought it and using it. If you keep it like that you never have to worry about update. Google will automatically push the update to your phone by next week. Incidentally the phone is also a developer phone, so people usually play around with it. Root, custom roms, kernels etc. Now for these enthusiasts to get the update, they have to unroot, ,to stock just like your phone. After getting the update they will start messing with it again:laugh: this forum being the developers forum of the Internet is the reason why you are seeing all those posts.
Now you are sitting on a Ferrari phone, using it as a Honda. Some day in the future you will let it run at indy500

Did you mean to ask "do you need to root to get the 4.4.1 OTA"?? If not, your question doesn't seem to add up....
You definitely do NOT need to root to get the OTA. You can wait for the update to be pushed out, or, if you are impatient, you can sideload using ADB or install from recovery.
If you are rooted, as the other folks explained, you may need to get back to stock before you can install 4.4.1
To add to this, I only rooted my Nexus 5 so I could use BetterBatteryStats and some other monitoring apps. Is there any way to go back from TWRP to stock recovery without wiping data/losing root?
I'm quite happy with everything stock and don't plan on doing any mods.
Also, I sideloaded 4.4.1, but would I have gotten the OTA with TWRP?

[Q] LG G2 KitKat Root question

I tried searching the dev post and could not find the answer to my question.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48709232
Anyway I have a Verizon G2 that is Rooted. I got a ota notification today wanting to update to Kitkat. I told it no because I figured it would not end well.
Do I let it install the update then just root again using IOroot25?
When I first rooted, it did not wipe my phone which was pretty sweet. And I do not quite understand what the Dev wrote about the EFS being backed up or not.
If I root using IOroot25 will it wipe my devise?
Thanks for the help
If no one knows, could someone repost my question in the dev forum for me please?
Also I have Titanium back up. can i just back up everything that way and restore if IOroot25 wipes everything?
Thanks!
So I tried to do a system OTS update and it failed like I though it would.
I tried to use iroot25 to see if it would work. The script completed fine, but I am still not at 4.4
I need to figure out how to update to 4.4 now.
Found this thread which may let me flash up to kitkat
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711668&page=40
I might try that.

Need Help Rooting LG-D415

Okay I just got this LG-D415 yesterday and I let it do the OTA update. I am trying to root it now and have tried every single rooting tool out there and none are able to do it. I don't feel like waiting for their databases to update to support my new OTA... is there anything I can do? Can I rollback? I can't find a old stock rom to flash on the system factory recovery because none are signed. Please and thank you for any help!!!

Another SM-N900V Lollipop Root Question

I'm super frustrated about this issue. I flashed the 5.0 leak onto my SM-N900V and now I can't downgrade or root. I've waited for a year since the leak and still nothing. I'm thinking about just finding a method on my own. Any suggestions on where to start? (If there IS a method for my phone, let me know)
Kingroot app.. Is only hope, i tried it few months back with no success.. They said that they will add 900v soon, try it. Might be you are the lucky one lol..
I actually did that root method for 4.4.2 before I upgraded so I figured I would try it again for 5.0. No dice...
