Note 3 charging/note charging - General Questions and Answers

So I have a galaxy note 3 tmobile and I plug it in to charge via micro USB and it shows the phone is charging but the phone doesn't actually charge? When I try to charge it through the mains whilst turned off, it just vibrates every 2 seconds and shows a line across the screen as though something was going to show but stopped. Kind of thing you would see with a knackered screen. It works just fine when powered on and I don't have a spare battery. I know it's not the cable because I have 3 different ones and it happens with all of them. Anyone know what this is?? Please help

hi ivan, i have the same problem since yesterday on my note 3 n9005. I dont know how to fix it also others dont have any answers in the forum did you resolve the problem on your own
thanks

I got this problem yesterday. Phone went from 74% to 1% in a matter of hours. now when i plug it in to the wall charger it also vibrates.
Been lurking around google and many people seem to have this issue and they all talk about the power button being stuck. I took the phone apart and it seems with the note3 they used a different power button than the note and note2 .
Now if i have the phone off and pull the battery the constant vibrating seems to stop. Ill let you know if it does in fact charge while being off but Im running out of ideas. Anyone have any advice?

Chances are, you have a bad charger or a bad battery.
Either that or a broken usb port. You could be surprise on how many galaxy phones get no charge because of the usb charging port. Its very sensitive and it can be broken quite easily. But if you give more details maybe we can help. Does it responds when you connect it or it wont do anything at all?

can you plug into the computer and it stays connected with no issues or problems...if yes, then your port on the phone should be good
batteries do have a life span...and they are cheap on ebay...I got 2 2000 with charge for less than $20 bucks...great deal
prob is your battery if you wanna stay oem battery same thing you can get them at good prices on eBay and Amazon

Infuse Wont stay on or charge
Hello, maybe someone can help me here. My infuse suddenly won't charge or turn on at all. When I plug in the USB cable from my computer or the wall the battery icon comes on with the animated loading circle thing then goes off after about a second of doing that. When I do a hard reset with or without the battery in it and with or without the charger plugged in, the same thing happens.
Its been several days since this has been happening and after trying again today, it actually turned on and booted to the OS and was charging for about 5 mins before it stopped recognizing the charger. I pulled the battery and it since will not turn on. The battery has some charge on it but will not turn the phone on, just does the weird battery thing as described above.
I have tried several different charging cables, but have no other battery to try. Any suggestions?
Hello i had the same problem awhile back. When my phone was not rooted(Infuse) i had to go to recovery mode and wipe cache after that the charger recognized right away on the phone.
Another time After i rooted i flashed a bad rom and i could not get my phone to charge while it was off. It could only charge with the phone on....SO maybe try flashing a newer better ROM i recommend CM10.
Another thing i had to do was switch this old charger i had it would recognize for 5 min then Stop. It was just a bad wire connection.

The problem is I cannot get it to turn on at all. I was running CM10 and have tried 4 different charger/usb cables.
Sadly, the connection of this device is a known weak spot.. if its not doing anything when connected to some form of current.. all signs point to a dead port..
Hopefully that isn't the case..

I also went through this issue and i discovered that it will keep going through a battery icon and then off loop so the way to deal with this is as soon as you see the battery picture just hold the power button for like 2 or 3 seconds and then you should see the battery green indicator with the botton dots animation and it will Charge.
I am having the same issue as xtz as well. I cant get it to turn on. I flashed the Paranoid Android rom and it all went downhill from there. I flashed it and it had 10% battery left, by the end of the night it was at 1%. I went to bed and woke up with it only at 5%. I went back to stock then re-rooted it. I installed CWM but it wouldn't let me go into CWM recovery, only the Android recovery. Now the phone won't turn on at all, I have swapped batteries and USB cords with no luck. This is a brand new unit less than a week old, the battery is also less than 2 weeks old. Any help here? It won't turn on at all It does the same little ritual that xtz's does.

I already tried that and it seems to have messed up one of the batteries. The little loading circle will come on for a split second then it will go away, come back a few seconds later and it just loops. I plugged in the USB while holding the volume keys to try and get it into download mode but I'll get a warning message saying something about installing a different OS being dangerous, again, for a split second, and shuts off. It seems like the phone can't have any power go through it for more than a split second.
I'm having a similar issue with the phone not charging. But the phone won't PC or wall charger. But check this out I have a jigg for putting device in download mode when I connect it to phone. The phones goes in to download now when powered on. So what do guys think is wrong?

Do I need a new battery or does it sound like the USB port shot?
Same thing happened to my daughters galaxy s2. Usb port is shot. I got her a battery wall charger and a couple spare batteries. Charged the battery, popped it in and turned right on.

Nexus S heating Up without turning On

My Nexus S was working perfectly and running JellyBean (Was just updated). One morning, I woke up and saw the phone powered off. I tried to turn it on but it didn't. I plugged it to the charger, it just becoming hot without any luck in turning it on. What do you think, guys?!!
Try pulling the battery out while it's unplugged. Then see if you can turn it on after putting the battery back in.

Try another battery and if that fails then i guess its bricked.:crying:
Maybe a faulty battery or a poor charger? A phone heating up while charging is not strange, but it should be able to boot. Try to charge for 10 minutes and than disconnect and try to boot.
I pulled the battery many times but it didn't work.
Also, I charged it for more than three hours; but no luck in turning it on.
So, is it bricked?
if u plug usb to comp and nexus s , and if your screen is black, you are bricked.. and you motherboard is dead..
Both my PC and Mac don't recognize it. I tried unbricking it using Adam tool, but the device cannot be found.
I think the time has come for buying a new phone...even though I liked the Nexus s.
the same happen to me!!
Try pulling the battery out for about 15 - 30 minutes and then plug in the phone but dont turn it on just leave it to charge, see if that works
I tried doing everything possible on this forum....even the unbrickable tool....but no luck in retrieving my phone....
I liked the phone...but, there is no google devices stores in my country and no one can fix it (even Samsung, they say they cannot supprot such devices)
I think I'll end up buying another phone :crying:
Thanks guys for your support

[Q] Inspire not powering on

couldn't find any info so i'll see if i can hopefully get some answers
been running my inspire using Existz's ICS rom via the ace hack kit. no problems. i went and picked up an infuse 4g and decided to use it. so had that rooted and running. yesterday backed up everything on the inspire and removed the sim and sd card started using them in the infuse. was still playing games and such on the inspire. here's were things started to act weird. plugged in both phone on the wall charger and powered off the inspire. well it kept rebooting in recovery. i'd go down to power off and it'd come back on. did this maybe 3 times and then finally stayed off. today went to show a friend that was interested in it and it would not power on. no led light, nothing. plugged it in and still nothing. put in the spare battery and no led light or anything. tried to put it into recovery, nadda. put the sim and sd card in thinking it may make a difference, nope. so i'm not getting any power.
any help is appreciated.

I have no idea about that...but send an email to HTC to see what they tell you...
Try letting it sit and charge for a while second try to boot into hboot. I'm assuming that you rooted your phone so going through HTC for repair is not an option. I had a similar issue I ended up booting into hboot and then flashing a stock rooted img and starting all over with my phone.
Since your computer recognizes the device, did you try to send it a reboot command via adb?
Sent from my Inspire 4G running AOSPX-BR7
No I did not. Not sure how to to do it that way, but I'm sure I can find out how.
After reading a couple threads where people have had the same issue, I left the battery in it and placed it on the nightstand. It started to vibrate a few times and when I hit power I get a solid red led. Will have to search and see what that means.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
It sounds like it could be a bad battery. Given the red light, what has me wondering in the vibration prior to you pushing the power button. It almost sounds like the phone shutting down from low battery, but you said it wasn't on.
Sent from my Inspire 4G running AOSPX-BR7
Just a little note on Android phones. If you let them die completely they will not charge the battery from a PC or computer of any kind. The ports on a PC only provide 500ma max and it require at least 1 amp to charge a dead battery. That can only be accomplished by the wall charger that was supplied with the phone. If you are using another charger make sure it says on it that is can supply at least 1 amp or 1000ma any thing less will not charge a dead battery. Also note if the battery is completely dead, then the phone will not charge any way. The phone has to be able to power up and load the OS in order to charge. Androids use a software based charger that does not know how to charge unless the phone can boot and preload the the boot part of the OS. You may need an external charger the battery alone can be placed in or buy a new battery as they will usually have enough of a charge to get you going.
As the previous poster said, it sounds like you have a bad cable from the beginning and all you did is discharged it completely. Get a new cable and try the wall charger. If that does not work then spend 20 bucks and get a new battery.

well i have 2 batteries, 2 different plug adapters, 3 different cords and a car charger. tried six different ways charging from a wall adapter and flip flopped batteries as i changed cords and plugging it into the car charger. each cord and the car charger works with my infuse and worked with the inspire that day. battery was at 3/4 when i plugged it in. i guess could try a new batter, but i'm doubtful.

Nexus 5 sometimes refuses to charge

So my Nexus 5 sometimes won't charge. For example, I plug it in at 5%, and after an hour, it is still at 5% or lower ,often even at 0%, so when I unplug it, it instantly turns off. Sometimes it charges fine to something like 20%, then it stops and battery slowly starts to discharge. There are days when it's perfect, absolutely no trouble. I should also mention that when it charges normally, the charger plug is warm-hot, when it doesn't charge, it's cold.

It's hardware. Either the cable, the charger, or the phones mini USB port.
Try a different charger and cable for starters.

Its the hardware, maybe the battery or something and its also happening to LG G2 (N5 brother), so LG's faults.
But Google posted oficcially some ways to fix it, you only need to power off the phone and plug it. Wait 30 minutes and then turn it on again, leave it charging and this time probably works.
It doesn't happen to often, but when it does, its really annoying.
I remember having this issue but only with wireless charging. Seems like an issue with the wire.
I had this issue with my Galaxy Note. It was actually a faulty chip on the motherboard that was causing my charging problems... None the less, I would first check your cable and then the micro USB port.
I have 3 chargers and 2 USB cables, tried all the possible combinations, nothing. What should I look for about the USB port?

My 5 year old daughters Galaxy tab 3 is the same. I can tell the plastic part of the mini USB port is snapped. So only the wires are holding it together. It will charge... But only when it's laying on a stable surface, untouched and sometimes I have to wiggle it til it's charging, then leave it alone til it's done.
Does it say it's charging? For me, even if it isn't charging but is plugged in, it says "Charging (AC)".
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah, our tab makes the plug in noise over and over til it's good.
But just cause it says it's charging doesn't mean every pin is making proper contact with the charger or device.
I cleaned the phone's USB port with a toothpick and compressed air and so far, it's working all right again.

my N5 does this but with wireless charging..
sometimes i put it on when i go to bed, and i know it starts charging
in the AM i see its lower ... checking the batt stats it shows that it charged for a few mins then stopped
dunno yet whats up, it happens sporadically.
Any chance software could cause this? Rolling back to 4.4/4.4.x or resetting factory settings would help?

that could be next step.
if a factory reset doesnt help, then u have a hardware problem. Does the batt info says "healthy" or "good" for the battery?
have u tried using a toothpick to ensure all usb pins are clean of dust?
maybe u can get another battery and change it... if a cell is going bad inside the batt it can do that too

Today it didn't charge, so I decided to restart. When I had just powered off, a fully charged battery icon came on the screen and stayed for about 15 seconds. Then the screen flashes black and started showing the charging battery icon.
Anyways, I am going to flash the phone back to stock when I have time, if that doesn't help then it's going back for repairs.

download CPU-Z as the simplest way to tell
go to the Battery tab and it will tell ya the "Health" of the battery. Mine says "Good"
Another trick is to buy a wireless charger. If this ever happens to me I'm doing that.
This has happened to me months ago and I tried everything. Turned off my phone to charge, tried different cables...nothing worked.
Then I started charging my phone with a blackberry charger and it has been successfully charging my phone ever since. And it charges faster than the original charger. When you plug the charger into the phone, it's very solid, whereas the original charger is somewhat flimsy. Not sure if that may be the case. But that's what I did!
Hope this helped!

[Q] Device Not Charging

Hi Guys,
I have a tablet that my boss gave me today to 'fix'. The problem that it is having is that it isn't turning on, nor does it appear to be even charging. He said he used it until it was dead, then plugged it in overnight to charge, but when he tried it this morning, it wouldn't turn back on. I've had it for about two hours now, plugged into an outlet (the plug is a bulky black 2pronged adapter with samsung written on the side and I have a usb 3.0 plug). I tested the charger out on my Galaxy S5 and it started charging without any problems, so that tells me that the charger is working.
After 2 hours of supposedly charging, when I press power nothing happens. When I press the home button, nothing happens. I read on here that some were having really slow charging times, but I figured after two hours, there should be at least enough power to show the little batter logo on the screen during charging. Now, though, since that indicator doesn't even show up, I'm starting to think maybe I should just take it back to VZW. I was looking at the back of the device to see if it had a removable back cover and maybe resetting the battery would fix it, but I didn't see an indention where you can pull the cover off at (like on the note or my s5).
Any suggestions?
2 hour are not so much, if you used not the original charger. Let it on the charger for around 12 hour and try again - disconnect charger, reconnect again if you can see something...
Plug it in, keep the power button pressed for at least 30 seconds. See if that starts it up.
Hi.
You might try getting an usb volt- & ampere-meter off ebay. They're about 10 bucks or so.
It'll tell you if the tablet is drawing power at all.
Regards
Elo
