Help with getting Kitkat - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I found a SlimRoms Kitkat rom called Slimkat and I downloaded it along with the very large gapps it suggested I get. They suggest I wipe everything and install via TWRP. Can I dual boot it with my stock from a second rom slot so I don't have to wipe? So I would make a rom slot, install the OS from the the .zip from within TWRP, and then reboot right? How do I get the gapps on afterwards? I am very inexperienced when it comes to installing roms and TWRP.
Thanks,
Robbie Rioja

[Q] Questions about CM10 nightlies

I'm new to the whole rom business, and my first one is with CM10. I've noticed that there's an option to download nightlies directly on the phone. Is this all that needs to be done to update? Will it just download to the sd card, and then you can install from TWRP? Will I need to flash a new kernel every time?
Also, will updating the rom wipe my phone every time? I have an sd card backup through Titanium, but just curious.
Thanks!
You can update without wiping. This is called a dirty flash. It will keep your data. If you're having issues with the dirty flash though we recommend wiping and clean flashing the Rom

Can I dirty flash just by downloading the nightly from my phone?

[Q] Rom Installation Help?

So I intended to install this Custom Rom on my Captivate Glide but the only results I'm getting is my phone hanging on the roms splash screen. Di d i do something wrong? Here is a link to the custom rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2090822
How long is it stuck for? I ask because when I update my TF101, it hangs for quite a while, but does eventually go.

It's been hanging for like 20 minutes.
What steps did you follow to install?
It might be easiest to just wipe everything and start over.

Can't Flash ROMs? MOTO noob

I have had 3 lovely sessions with rsd and can't seem to successfully flash a ROM. I've mounted the system prior and I haven't mounted. My BL has been unlocked and I'm used to the CWM recovery. Any suggestions? Newest Verizon ota. Rooting with the Batman utility. Thanks in advance.

The first thing you need to do is unlock the boot loader.

Secondly, install TWRP, I find it much easier to use than CWM.

Put the ROM and gapps on your external SD. Boot into TWRP. Back up the stock rom. Wipe data. Then install the new ROM. Then install gapps.

I am sure there is much more detailed threads on how to do this, but that is the quick answer.

[Q] Viper XL to CM10 ROM

Hey guys,
I decided to make the transition over to CM, however I'm having boot loop issues with CM10. Here's the steps that I've taken in order to flash the ROM (what I though was properly):
Download CM10 Stable for HTC One XL
Wipe Cache and Davlik Cache
Factory Reset
Install CM10 .zip from TWRP 2.3.3
Flash boot img using TN WIN Boot Installer
However, as I've previously stated, I'm stuck on the CM boot logo. Any suggestions, I'm at a loss?
Thanks.
Solved the problem. I had to flash the boot img BEFORE flashing the ROM. Mistake on my part.
Mods -- feel free to delete this thread.
Thanks.
It should make no difference if you flash before or after.

trying to update to 4.4.3 from 4.4.2

i am currently on 4.4.2 with root and xposed framework already uninstalled from within the app, philz recovery mode.
when i try to install the 4.4.3 update (about 92 MB) it gives me an error on a specific apk (cannot remember exactly which one).
what are my best options? flash a stock 4.4.3 image and re root?
It's failing because of xposed. Try this

i am thinking and maybe the best for me is to make a fresh install (never did this before).
i have a couple of apps that i will need to have root and i also like keep the philz custom recovery
i never did this so i would like to know if it is safe to follow this guide:
How to flash a factory image | Return to stock | Unroot your Nexus 5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
i do not want to brick this. if i follow that, will i keep philz custom recovery? note that i am currently on 4.4.2.
and to get root again (after a fresh install of 4.4.3) will flash supersu.zip again be enough?
xposed is not needed for me and because of that i am havi all these troubles now, want to avoid that later.
edit: if i flash the file you posted, will it give me all the options i am asking right?

The link I gave you is the same as a clean install except you won't lose your data or custom recovery. You will lose root and will have to flash super su in your custom recovery. If you go with a complete clean install I'd use the link you posted. You'll have to flash a custom recovery via fastboot and then flash super su in it to root. My link will be simpler for you

I recently upgraded to 4.4.3 myself. Everything you need is in the stickies my friend. Flash the stock 4.4.2 factory ROM through philz recovery. When you upgrade to 4.4.3 you will lose your custom recovery but the boot loader should still be unlocked (mine was). Its okay, there are two options to get philz recovery back. You can use fast boot commands with the phone in the boot loader menu connected to your PC. The command itself and how to set up android SDK is in the sticky called unlocking boot loader, rooting and flashing ROM (or something like that lol). Option two is to use the app flashify available from the playstore. It will back up your custom recovery and you can use that to reflash it after you upgrade. I have not used it myself as I prefer to just use the simple fastboot commands in the cmd menu.
EDIT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507905
Follow this tutorial on how to get your recovery back. Also the phone will no longer be rooted. There is a link in that tut to the superuser zip. Flash it through the custom recovery after you install it. You'll be rooted on 4.4.3 in less than 15 minutes from start to finish
