Since the recent camera update I've had nothing but trouble with the built in Google camera app. After I take a picture the Nexus 5 will often freeze with all 4 cores of the CPU churning away. The only way to restore the phone is to reboot. I don't know if it is a bug in the program or a conflict with another app or something to do with my xprivacy settings.
I tried settings / apps and "uninstall updates", reboot, but that didn't help. I finally gave up and now use "cameraMX" app which lets me take pictures without freezing the phone. So I'm OK but I wonder if others have had the same experience. I also would like to get the apk of the kitkat camera app before the latest update to install and try. Anyone have it?
For OP,
u using what rom?
n mostly your's camera apps have bad GAPPS sectors
send my signature phone to XDA w bad grammars via Google Chorme
Stock kitkat.
Turn off location in the app
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Location was already turned off.
I am now using version 2.0.002 which I think is the older version. Just used the camera now to test it and it worked fine. Yesterday using the updated camera, it constantly froze so I could not even take one picture and needed to reboot constantly. I assume location was also turned off in that updated version too. Will not update again to find out.

What is GAPPS and how do I fix bad GAPPS sectors?
Google camera continues to cause me problems! I've given up on it. CameraMX works fine and even takes clearer pictures.

Just switched from victory to lithium and there is no media gallery. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to download one from the market. Or if someone could post a link for a good gallery I could download! Thanks!
more bugs
Another thing, it won't allow a Facebook sync...is anyone else experiencing these problems?
QuickPic > any oem media gallery known to Android
I don't use Facebook but I was having issues syncing Google music. Wifi wasn't working for me and the pattern lock was all messed up too.

You could extract a ROM and grab a gallery apk from that and copy it to /system/app folder. Just make sure and change to the correct permissions after you move it there.

I've no gallery either, and also the camera is giving me glitches. It seems like I can take pictures just fine, but am unable to record video. It force closes after every attempt. Pattern unlock is glitched for me as well.

I dont know how you guys feel, but no facebook sync or stock gallery means no good. I tried fixing it and after hours of work I decided to try out the Sonya v2
Sorry this was my fault, dont know how I missed the gallery, will have that fixed by tonight after work. Facebook has synced with me everytime and I'm not having any issues with google music as well. I use these everyday and are a must as well. Patternlock on the other hand is a different story. I will look into it.
A note on Facebook, if you are trying to add the account like you do your Google account you can't. Just use the app from the market. It works well and I have found it more reliable this way
Had the same problems setting up yahoo, fb and twit from add accounts.I ended up getting apps from market worked out fine.
This will b a great rom when u get the gallery work out.Been running it for about 24 hours now with pretty heavy use and battery is at 27 not bad at all.installed at 95

JRW, are you experiencing the camcorder issues or is that just me? Also I just wanna say great ROM otherwise.
Edit: Also is there a way that you could get Contacts sync from the Facebook app to work? I've seen other Android phones do that with a non-modified Facebook app; I think there's something involved with blur that tells the app not to give us that option.

Yes I am and I'm hoping it is due to me forgetting to install the gallery in the Rom as everything was working fine on my test version. I will have an update out tonight after work.
I removed a lot of the blur accounts have you tried using just the app from the market? It has been working for me

I am using the app from market and that works just fine; except that it doesn't offer contact sync (on a non-blur phone the Facebook app usually offers an option for contact sync...)

Hey I was wondering if anyone else has had apps install by themself, over the past few days a couple of apps have somehow showed up on my home screen. They don't show up under the app drawer or under apps in settings. Also ever since these started coming thru I keep getting notifications for other stuff like "lose belly fat" and "job offers starting at $325 and hour". I'm currently running aokp m6 if it helps. I've done a full wipe and it stopped for a day and then came back. I'll post some screen shots of the apps.
P.s. the ones installing automatically are the last three above the PayPal widget.

I too had some Apps install on their own. But they were apps I had before I attempted a NANDROID Restore, which for some odd reason failed and killed my Boot. So I was forced to re-flash my stock boot/ROM on my S3 (AT&T Flavor) and repeat the Rooting process. But once I started looking through my app drawer, some of these apps were being re-installed. Odd, perhaps some internal back-up that I'm not aware of on ICS.
Yea these are random apps that aren't even from the play store. When I click on them they open the browser and take me to a page to sign up for a subscription.

Have you installed recently any pirate app? An app not bought or downloaded from Android market?
I saw some apps that installs a patch that brings/installs apps and shortcuts on your cellphone. Tô solve this Just delete the program or patch and use an antivirus Just in case...
Good luck

same issue
I'm having this issue but its legit apps keep "updating" themselves baxk after I uninstall them
ie: bbm, flashify, (more I can't think off atm)
Some of the apps has Adware build in it, which means if you download the App, it will spam your Home screen full.
You can fix this problem by manually delete it everytime, to fix it permantly you need to delete the app.

also do you have any virus on your phone? I don't think this is the problem though.

Yes multiple times
Today I went as far as deleting history of them being installed in the app store... Waiting to see if they are back tomorrow
Update: still happening. Resorting to auto update off and still having to stop installs... Something to do with rebooting, or its triggering it
Google think that almost every device running android, is their device. Therefore they implemented a service within Google Play Services that will connect your device often to the Google and it will drain more battery then needed.
NOTE:
I tried a method that was shown on i think this forum or another one. I can't remember which one it was, and i cant find the thread either.
So before i am going to start this, i wanna thank the guy from the original thread for this, even if i dont know where i can find you. I am only sharing this so i take NO CREDITS.
I repeat, i am ONLY sharing this.
+ Works with:
- AOSP roms
- TW roms
- Well, basicly all android running devices :fingers-crossed:
To start with:
- Turn of location settings
- Go to settings, accounts and go to your google account.
+ go to advertisements and untick the toggle that says that Google takes care of your advertisements.
Most important:
- Download Adaway (latest) from HERE.
Thank you @mrRobinson for this awesome app!
- Open adAway and provide Adaway root access.
- Press the menu button and go to your own custom list.
- Now add a line by pressing the + button in the upper right of the screen.
- Add the following line < mtalk.google.com >
- Make sure the the checkmark is ON with the "mtalk.google.com" line.
- Now go back to the homescreen of adAway, apply the patch.
Note: According to the maker of the original thread, this seems to be the server that your device is always trying to communicate with. So by blacklisting this URL, there is no connection anymore.
Note 2: Cyanogenmod (and maybe other AOSP or GE users) are experiencing that the Blue highlighted WI-FI icon and the blue highlighted antenna icon are now GREY after applying this.
This is because you are not connected anymore to the google servers.
Note 3: Keep in mind that you can still manual synchronise your calander, contacts, Gmail, and other Google account related.

This (syncing) only applies for manual updates. Leaving the entry in Adaway will disable auto-updates. Not a viable option for me, am not going to manually refresh Google apps...

Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for this.
I don't think Ad away works as it should though.
It says its syncing and merging with my current hosts file but after doing that my hosts file goes from 1.4mb to 700kb. So all its doing is deleting stuff. Weird

I always delete GooglePlayServices and never have any problems with apps updating.
I still get notifications in my status bar telling me when there is an app update available in the Play Store and also still get my Gmail notifications in my status bar.
Syncing works perfectly and so does Maps, Google Search, YouTube etc.
I actually can't see ANY reason to have GooglePlayServices installed.
All my Google apps still function perfectly without it.
And I no longer have RAM wasted and battery used up by this annoying app!!
My advice to everyone, delete it, it's not needed at all.

Was pretty euphoric when I read this so immediately disabled Play Services and rebooted like a happy little kid
That level of joy didn't last long:
Maps, Calendar, Keep, Youtube, these all need G.P.S. to function properly. Maybe even more apps but this is where I stopped.
Needless to say turned it back on again. This, as well, is not a viable option for me

That's odd, I don't get Google Maps requesting Play services on my device.
I do get one of those notifications after wiping cache and dalvik cache though, I just swipe it away and carry on as normal.
After you swiped them away can you still use the apps requesting it?
For example when I first boot up YouTube after wiping cache it says it needs PlayServices to run but I just ignore and cancel it.
I have never lost any YouTube functionality at all.

Do you have background data restricted for this app? If that's not the case, it may have something to do with the app itself, I don't have this issue. Did this happen recently (ie worked fine until I installed/flashed ______)?
Nope, it happens on my Nexus 7 tablet too.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I just checked both on data/wifi and it works fine for me, no message. Have you tried to wipe data/cache for the app or try to uninstall the updates back to factory then reinstall? Also try with the Xposed activated or modules as well. See if that's influencing it.
having the same problem here and I'm on 2.3.4 xperia play so not a specific version problem , but the thing I noticed is that we both have a google and a youtube account , perhaps the youtube app get confused and don't save its data , I didn't have this problem in earlier version of youtube though -_- , (all xposed modules disabled too)
Help I don't think I have the same problem because it says there was an error while playing tap to try again
So I recently got home wifi from TWC and have been doing some heavy YouTube browsing from the YouTube app. I went to check just how much data I had used and seen YouTube is not the heavesist usage app in data usage. It is the Google Camera App and it has used almost 5.60 GB?! I would be at ease if it was YouTube but not Google Camera. Can anyone shed some light on what is happening so I can have some peace of mind!?
Bug?
It maybe a bug. I don't have that problem though. Maybe your Camera app is not on the latest version. Try to update it.

Version is definitely the latest, as for a bug I wouldn't rule that out. I noticed the usage is in foreground meaning I'm using it but the thing is I haven't used the app once since I reinstalled CM12.1 and that's been a few days ago. The data usage is basically new. Also I really don't see any ways it could use data because I use AOSP Gallery so its not Google Drive backing up Google Photos.
You should probably make that question to the CM team.
