VoLTE support in Hong Kong carrier HKT/PCCW - Galaxy Note 3 General

the carrier announced that they will be supporting VoLTE, and the first device to be compatible is Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and the device they are selling are already updated to the compatible firmware. For devices from other channel, would be upgradable starting tomorrow.
not sure if it is the N9005ZHUENB6 leak.

HKT and Huawei launch the world’s first seamless Voice over LTE service
HKT (SEHK: 6823) - HONG KONG, May 15, 2014 – HKT and Huawei today launch Hong Kong’s first Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service, which is available via the market-leading Samsung Note 3 LTE smartphone.
HKT is the first operator in Hong Kong to offer its 4G customers a VoLTE service while Huawei is the first solution provider to support a commercially available VoLTE service based on the latest 3GPP R10 standard in the world. It is also the first time for Samsung to launch VoLTE enabled smartphones outside South Korea. HKT, Huawei and Samsung are shaping the future of mobile communications through their continuous technology innovation and investment.
The launch marks the world’s first commercial launch of the latest standard VoLTE technology (3GPP standard Release 10-based which enables a totally seamless handover of voice calls from 4G to 3G coverage), reflecting the growth and maturity of the VoLTE ecosystem in the marketplace. It also marks an important collaboration between HKT, Huawei and Samsung.
HKT incorporates Huawei’s state-of-the-art VoLTE solutions. Highlights of the new VoLTE service are:
Enables higher quality video and clearer sound, with significantly reduced background noise
Enables faster voice call set-up (around 1 second for VoLTE calls to VoLTE calls)
Enhances video call quality to 640 pixel x 480 pixel or above
Enables instant switching between voice and video calls
Mr. Alex Arena, Group Managing Director of HKT, said, “We are committed to providing the most advanced and compelling services to customers. Our game-changing VoLTE service will be offered to new and existing mobile customers. We are thrilled to work with Huawei to roll out the VoLTE service to customers and look forward to bringing it to more customers through Samsung Note 3 LTE now and potentially other mobile devices in future.”
Mr. Ma Haixu, President of core network product line, Huawei, said, “Built on Huawei’s network platform, the new service is the world’s first commercially available VoLTE solution using the latest R10 standard. The new service signifies Huawei’s leading position in the VoLTE market. We are focusing our efforts to ensure HKT’s VoLTE network is an industry benchmark in terms of service quality, innovation and return on investment.”
Earlier in May, Huawei was awarded "Best VoLTE Product" for its end-to-end voice and video over LTE (V2oLTE) solution at the 2014 IMS World Forum in Barcelona, Spain. Huawei’s IMS based VoLTE solution is currently being deployed in more than 21 networks. The launch of HKT’s VoLTE service is a great testament to Huawei's dedication and contributions to LTE deployment, emphasizing the leadership of HKT and Huawei in the VoLTE market.

HK N9005 devices has 16GB flash, and the rom image won't work on 32GB device as is. need to modify the PIT or use a backup? I am not sure.
I flashed mine(16GB) just now with mobile odin, VoLTE is greyed out for me as my carrier has no VoLTE support.
root is still ok
my KNOX is triggered long ago:good:
heard that region unlock(5 mins voice call with a "correct" sim) is required for every flash update.

Thanks for the information :good:

seems like VoLTE having problem .. not sure if PCCW or the mobile itself.. whenever i enable VoLTE , i cant answer any incoming call.. unless i disable it.. weird..

any mirror? the download is extreme slow

Wife got an OTA update yesterday. VoLTE now showing but greyed out. She is on one2free (CSL). CSL were supposed to be rolling VoLTE out in H1 this year, so technically still got a while. Yes, am aware that CSL is now part of the HKT/PCCW family, but it seems for the time being they are keeping them as separate operating entities.

China Mobile (Hong Kong) can provide VOLTE service?
In Shenzhen, the network is still not VOLTE

Go to the link below and install the rom I indicated.
During installation leaves everything by default and you will find yourself among the VoLTE call settings.

[PETITION/GER] Support of VoLTE & WIFICALL in Germany of ONEPLUS Smarthphones

The company OnePlus should finally take care of the full support of VoLTE and WiFiCall at the three major German providers (Telekom, Vodafone, o2). So far even the flagships do not support any of these technologies, although on the hardware side all prerequisites exist and the technology is also advertised in Germany in the hardware specifications.
Explanation
OnePlus has developed the OnePlus 6, a very competitive product that does not support the simplest communication technologies, at least in Germany.
These would be VoLTE and WiFiCall. In India, these technologies are supported. In Germany, with identical hardware, but not. This is due to the reluctance of Oneplus to implement the techniques correctly and completely.
Important are the mentioned technologies for users with little to no reception in the 2G and / or 3G network. Telephone calls could be transmitted over the LTE network, or WLAN. However, this is not possible because of OnePlus itself.
Inquiries concerning this problem are answered via ChatBot, with the immediate answer that there is no agreement with e.g. the telecom would exist.

It does not work. Over 500 supporters who tested and reported it is not working. As the text says: the technical infrastructure is there, but does not work.
Dont working for me with Telekom.
Even if both, the device and the carrier, support VoLTE or VoWIFI, it doesn't necessarily work. Usually a carrier firmware is needed. Some carriers offer VoLTE only to phones sold by them. For example, I'm in UK and on EE. Beside my OnePlus 6 I have an unlocked Galaxy S8. In order to have VoLTE on my S8 I had to flash an EE branded firmware.
All in all, this petition should include those carriers too and not just OnePlus.

Its not like that anymore. Xiaomi is not even sold officially by Telekom, o2 or Vodafone in Germany and still they have these features.
Oneplus just needs to implement it, but they don't.

maybe everyone should check these paths with a (root) file explorer:
data/vendor/radio/modem_config/mcfg_sw/
firmware/image/modem_pr
read file "mbn_sw.txt" it's a kind of listing for the deeper paths.
in my opinion you could check if your COUNTRY/CARRIER combo is the lucky one....just check the china path... VOLTE voila!
.../generic/eu.. does have data for "ee" "elisa" "telefoni" "h3g" "telia"....but not for every country...
could anyone in here confirm that O2 / UK give your OP6 VOLTE super powers? anyone from great britain here....

Just checked on mine (German). In this file there are these paths yes, but in my version there is "china" alsways the "volte" term in the path.
With all eu carriers there is no term "volte" in the path... might not play a role, but at least it's a difference in the wording....

I've managed to get vowifi and volte working with the VoEnabler module for magisk. Everything works surprisingly, but for some reason my phone won't recognise incoming phone numbers properly when on these services, resulting in unknown/private number.
I have a feeling its something to do with the radio modem files that you've linked, but no luck so far. If I manage to get it working I'll follow up.
It's annoying as Huawei and xiaomi phones have over 100 entries in their mbn_sw.txt file, whereas oneplus has only a dozen or so... Ive come to the conclusion that, in the UK anyway, the phone manufacture has more to do with this than the carrier..
Sorry for the formatting, at work on mobile

Mate 30 pro china variant volte Issue in India

Hello ,
i recently brought mate 30 pro from china , the device is pretty cool but i am facing only one issue in India
i can not see option to enable VOLTE because of which i can't make or receive calls/sms on the device.
if anyone could help me with this that would be great , i would prefer a not root method(as i have 2 year warranty and in some time i head back to china ) but root method will also work .
i have tried es explorer and all 4g only apps nothing seems to work as it is Android 10 and major thing being the build.props has only 600 right so i can't even copy :- says permission denied .
Thanks
Even i am looking for a solution to this issue
Mate 30 Pro VOLTE Issue India
Well I am also facing the same issue. The problem is that Huawei India is responsible to take all the network parameters from the telcos in India and then they need to float on OTA patch to enable VOLTE services in Mate 30 Pro for all Indian mobile networks. Reason for Volte not being available is that Mate 30 Pro is not officially launched so Huawei India hasn't tested and worked on Volte for this device. I tried to reach Huawei India testing team to support on this and try to give a fix ASAP but cant get a proper point of contact. If you can reach and push them on this then may be we can get a resolution.
Exactly

the day before yesterday they contacted me and asked more details about the issue and and assured that you will be getting fix very soon.
I have the same problem in the UK. I had both VoLTE and VoWIFI on both my Sims on my mate 20 pro international version. On this Chinese version mate 30 pro, neither works in the UK. I hear that the international version again has both these features working fine.
Would be good for a quick fix as my phone reception can be a little troublesome where I live, so used voice over Wi-fi a lot.

Hi dears.. Any updates ? I got a call from them today and they said my mobile is Chinese version so it won't support VOLTE in India. If VOLTE is needed for use O should buy it from India if this model is not available then other model which supports VOLTE can be bought.
I had a mate 10 pro Chinese version and it didn't work but changing to UK ROM, it then worked ok. It is a firmware difference and they obviously don't use it yet in China, hence no need to add it.
It is a shame that all of us early adopters have to suffer. It can only be a small change to the firmware to add it to our ROM as a future update. OR allow us access to unlock our boot loader and flash a ROM of our choice.
I too have the same issue
I wonder if I have this issue - well, I guess I do, but the problem I am concerned about is that it disabled the 2nd sim when I make a call on my 1st sim. I want to be able to make a call on my 1st sim and to still be able to use data on my 2nd sim.
Is that the same problem/root issue?
Voice sim is 'EE'. Data sim is 'Three'. Both in the UK.

From where did you buy one? I want to get one too ...

SM-N9860(HK) or SM-N986N(KR)?

SM-N986N(KR) is being 80$ cheaper than the hong kong version. Should I go for the korean one or hong kong one? Is there any significant difference between the two? Which one usually gets the updates first? Do both of them not support eSim?
HK version as it is dual sim...KR is single sim... No e-sim on HK version., Can't say for the KR, yet it probably won't have e-sim...HK is carrier free, while depending on the version of KR you buy it will have some carrier specific apps installed...Also Samsung Pay has been verified to work in different countries on the HK, while the KR version normally requires a Korean sim for Samsung Pay....Updates just depends, probably KR first but updates from Samsung has been good these days.... As you are be here, there are other threads explaining things extensively, please check those before creating any new threads. I have the HK version and using it in Japan with no problems.

You also need to verify the frequency bands supported by the HK/KR to ensure they provide the proper coverage for you please cellular service.... frequencycheck.com is a good reference site

Absolutely love the phone and the battery life for me had been great.... Depending on your mobile provider you get in Japan, will affect battery somewhat, yet I think carrier aggregation really helps out..I have NTT Docomo and no issues at all when though the phone over covers 3 out of 5 bands... You have to let the battery optimization work for about a week... As time goes along the phone will learn your patterns and you will see more and more improvements to the battery life... People expect stellar out of the box without realizing the smart tech and learning curve the battery has to go through... I'm able to use Samsung Pay with the HK model in Japan using US cards, so that's a very big win... Any other Japan specific questions just let me know and be sure to use that "thanks" button in these forums, it goes a long way
Samsung pay works flawlessly with my N986O (HK version) BUT. I can't add my UK loyalty cards as it is expecting HK retailers and shops, but both credit and debit cards added and worked 100% fine, you'll be registered with Samsung Pay HK
Edit 1: Far as loyalty cards go, adding a card not on the list, i.e manually seems to work fine
Has anyone had the chance to test out the Korean N986N in the UK? What's the experience so far?
I upgraded from the Exynos UK to the HK N9860, but I'm getting disappointed in how slow the firmware updates are. It's still on ATH1, while other devices have gone through ATH3/5/9 and now on ATI2/3/5/6.
The Korean N986N looks like it's been getting updates regularly. I was thinking of returning the N9860 and purchasing the N986N, and flash it with KOO unbranded CSC.
Anyone done a similar thing and can give their experience? 5G working OK (UK)? Does the phone still have bloatware on KOO CSC? Does KOO have Smart Call (Hiya)?
Thanks!

Same question here. Would the N986N ever be able to flash another region firmware & CSC in the future? Or it would forever be locked to KR? Thanks!
I'm a totally new Samsung user and regretted not being aware and search about this before getting the KR version, just because it seems to be the cheapest of all Snapdragon variants

It's KTC, KT Telecom. I have Package Disabler Pro and have disabled most of the KT bloatware. But some stuff are deeply integrated into the OS like Korea localization content in apps & menus, Samsung Daily cards, carrier services in Settings and all. I'm hoping to get rid of them.
Also the inability to use Samsung Pay. At first i thought as long as i buy a variant that's not one of the official models for my country. I won't be able to use Samsung Pay. And that is a trade off I'm willing to make when it comes to performance (my country is Exynos). What I didn't know was there areother Snapdragon variants that can be flashed with an unrestricted CSC from my country and work with Samsung Pay.

Instead of trying to disable the Korean apps, have you tried changing the CSC to the unbranded KOO variant like the user above? I changed my HK N9860 from TGY to BRI, I'm sure you should be able to do the same and change it from KTC to KOO and it will remove all those apps and Korean settings.

I don't use 5G service but it should be running fine out of the box on any of the carriers here.
As far as volte outside of korea, given the state of the world it might be a bit before I test that.

Oh okay.
So when you go to your Phone app, and go to settings, you don't see an option called "Caller ID and spam protection"?
You should also see at the bottom of the Phone app, next to contacts on the right there should be "Places"

Pixel 5 - 5G Certification

Hey guys
i live in switzerland and now i got my hands on a pixel 5. Now I had to find out that Google is doing something stupid and certifies mobile operators for 5G.
Swisscom apparently has no certification, but 5G runs and works flawlessly with the Mi 10 Pro.
Is there any way to turn off this junk so that 5G simply works with every provider?
Thanks for your help
Are you using DualSim? I've read somewhere that in this case 5G is off
Gesendet von meinem CMR-AL09 mit Tapatalk
No im not using dualsim. Even on Network search no 5g network is found ?
It's Google's fault, indeed, I can't use 5G in Romania either. I'm waiting for a while, maybe they'll just allow us, from the countries where they don't sell official their phone, to use the full capabilities.
If they don't I'll just root and I'll do it myself, but I think Google will eventually unlock the 5G connectivity, it's hurting their "official" customers by not being able to roam on 5G or use their phone with a local sim when needed.

I am having the same problem in HK. Won't use 5G. If the Pixel 5 is rooted, doe it mean it will be able to use 5G?

It's a similar problem on OnePlus 8, I think. We need to edit a file, carrier policy, and the phone will then allow 5G connections. The problem here is that on OnePlus you can retrieve the file from the phone without root, with a Qualcomm software, and then put it back, edited, with the same software. On Pixel that program isn't working so I assume the only way to access and edit that file is by rooting.
I don't want to root yet, I'm waiting a while. First of all to find out an official answer about the software shipped with the phones in Europe, a presumably KDDI Japan version and second, to see if Google doesn't fix the problem, since there are way too many people affected.
I'm from mainland China. I've ordered a Pixel 5 and just realized that it doesn't support 5g in my country! What a shame Google permit 5g for only specific carriers and block out others, while the hardware of P5 is 100% capable for supporting almost every carriers around the world!
Wondering if Google can see this post and fix that problem via ota.
emmm

I suggest you go to the official forum with the post feedback, Google has seen a lot more than XDA.

Thx. Maybe I'll post there.
Same problem here in the MENA region. Same with oneplus 8 series and Nord. I have a 5G sim and carrier but with these phones including Pixel 5 it's blocked. I don't want to root. It's really stupid even VoLTE is blocked here. (Kuwait)

I think you're %100 correct on this.
Any news after the update? I returned my Pixel for the gap issue but I am interested to see if there are any changes regarding the 5G locked issue...
Got the November update and no 5G yet
I just switched over to esim today with tmobile unrooted, stock, and November patch. It shows 5g in the status bar.
BUT, under wifi and network in settings , there is no 5g where *lte 3g 2g* are.
I guess the above poster is right

Edit. I live on the east coast of PA usa and earlier this was the case.. I just checked again, I have 5g as an option. FYI anyway.
Here Italy, i ordered it from Gemran store hoping to have compatibility with vodafone since vodafone DE has already certification to work with 5G network but still nothing, i tried to flash the RD1A.201105.003.C1, Nov 2020 that is global but no working 5g connection.
I hope in a future update because my sim in OnePlus nord work well in 5g and i get about 400Mb speed that is amazing in italy, with 4g i get 130Mb.
Contacted vodafone support and they said it's a phone problem so I think maybe with december update Google wil resolve (ps in software i have the option to select 5g preferred network but never get attached to 5G where the OnePlus Nord get 5G)
I added root to my device, how can I enable 5g now.. I actually added root just to test 5g
December update still no 5g.
Google recently updated its support page about 5G network compatibility to explicitly state that 5G will work only on carriers that Google enabled it.
At this time, unlisted countries have no selected 5G carrier networks that work with Pixel phones.

Steps to get the SM-N9860 optimal for UK use

Hello all,
I have recently purchased a shiny new Hong Kong version of the Note 20 Ultra 5G (SM-N9860). I am based in the UK, and want to get the most functionality out of the phone, namely:
- 5g capability on the Three network
- Samsung Pay working
- inbuilt call recorder
- VoLte working
I have had a read through various posts on these forums, and it seems I would need to do one or both of the below:
- Change the CSC using the Google Dialler trick
- Change the firmware using the patched ODIN tool, and a firmware from Sammobile
Now my question is threefold:
- What combination of the above two steps do I take?
- Which region do I change the CSC and/or firmware to (UK or otherwise)?
- If I have to change either the CSC and/or firmware to a region with the exynos variant, will that cause problems, as the SM-N9860 is the snapdragon version?
Thank you for bearing with me
I have the same phone. There's a menu hack code to get 5g working (whitelist) and it's fine for me (Vodafone UK), although I disable it as it rips through the battery. I think that works for Vodafone and EE, but not sure about Three as they might use a different band. Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole anyway.
Samsung Pay let me register my Nationwide UK card with the HK portal. Took a few goes but it works fine now.
I'm very happy with the phone (no idea what VOLTE is) and I don't need call recording. All works without changing the firmware.
Voice over LTE = Volte

How did you register your uk cards with samsung pay hk?
Just put the details in and it accepted them. I really can't remember the process as it was so long ago.

Thanks, also where did you find the menu hack code for 5g
It's on Google. Just search for Note 20 Ultra Hong Kong 5g whitelist or somethig like that.
