Hi. Such an app may already exist and have eluded my search terms.
I'm looking for a means to use an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace, in my case) as an external USB wired keyboard with a dev board and tiny 4" screen. This would save having to lug a convetional keyboard around!
Any help gratefully received!
Thanks.

HI Guys,
have just picked up my new XDA mini S - traded in the XDA2s and must say it is a great and stable device.
However, having some problems locating sat nav software for it - O2 do not have any and Tom Tom state they do not support the mini s.
Only difficulty I can see is that it is running mobile 5 and has a mini SD card.
If anybody could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated
Hi,
My best advice: tomtom 5 for PDA or Destinator PDA comes in a box, with software and maps (depending on your budget, either just UK or more countries)
You will then need a good sized blank mini sd card, 512mb minimum i would say.
You will also need a bluetooth gps unit (holux/etam/tomtom etc) as wired units will not work with your new xda mini s as it runs a mini usb port.
Then you bung the cd into your pc, and sync your mini s through activesync, and install the programme via the interface to you device. It will then install maps via active sync to your mini sd card.
Activate the set up on request, Set up the gps unit, and boom job done.
If you need any help mounting your new mini s, have a look at my site, and also other bits and bobs that may be of use.
If you need any help, drop me a PM or reply.
Hope thats of use!

I need to connect an external USB Cam to a Smartphone to be used with Skype video conferencing (on the Smartphone !), with the ability to switch from internal Cam (front/rear) to external during the conference.
I would like also to have this feature, if possible, on my Galaxy S with Android 2.3.3 (without USB Host mode)
or at least on a Galaxy tablet with USB Host mode, running Android 4.xx
Any way ? Any solution ?
thanks in advance
First of all you need a kernel which supports usb hosting.
I wrote that it is also OK for Tablet with Android 4.xxx
And then ?
Interesting. My tablet got extra usb host. Hoping to know it.

Hi
I did not find a answer here and found differing opinions in the web, so i write this.
Well, on Galaxy S2 plus, Usb OTG definitely works! :good:
I'm on 4.1.2 stock no rooted.
After I found a working adapter, I was able to make a keyboard (wow, many surprises like alt-tab that opens recent tasks and ctrl-alt-canc that reboots the phone), a mouse, a card reader (that did not work on another phone) a pendrive and even a external hard disk (not able to read files because of filesystem). NTFS looks like not supported (perhaps could with root and proper kernel module).
Well, that is.
Bye.
Bye
au revoir
Auf wiedersehen.
i think most of user here already know but u have my thanks
Well, i didn't know, and I didn't found useful info about it.
I even read somewhere that S2plus did NOT have usb otg...

In specs and images it was posted as (will insert image later)
(all is rather optimistic and NOT what it came like!)
it appeared as(will insert image later1)
and issues with me trying (and achieving some sort of control level) there from
(will insert image later)
varied degree of success working on it gets me to (will insert image later2)
So, I have managed to disable some apps, once managed to get mobile networking connections to the 1Mobile Market and get some apps to work, but not GooglePlayStore. Most of remaining (and new apps) are not in Chinese no more, so I am very hopefull, that with rooting I'll get rid of the rest of them gremlins.
Actual specs (will insert image later3)
The questions to you Gentleman (and) Ladies:
1- Do I have to (must) root the device, so that GooglePalyStore would work? as currently, it is installed, but majority of apps are kicking some or the the sort of errors(unsupported etc), and actual GoogleStore app- "works" via Browser...
2- If yes, how do I (step by step) root it in order to have better control? (what applications( with links please) I should install for such Odyssey and what order etc please!?
3- If rooting, is it possible to Get IE 4.4.0 ROM to install?(instead of 4.1.1)- what will happen to the features of IE analogTV receiver hardware management?
4- Would it matter at all, if device is not rooted, but intended to be installed iGo Primo is packaged somehow with GooglePlay app?- will it work? or will that "modified" app work with rooted device all together? (I already learned, that IE Traffic recorder apps are only available on Google)- meaning not available for me for now...
Very many thanks for the answers and ideas in advance!
Am I wrong in believing, that particular tablet is really just a different badge wearing JXD P1000 MTK8377 tablet?
Hardware specs seem to match, as well as appearance/hardware configuration seems ever so similar, is it that daft of an idea to consider rooting and replacing ROM with one, made for JDX device?

I have been successfully using a Bluetooth keyboard on all my android devices operating on Android 4.0.4, 4.1.11, 4.2.2 etc. Recently I bought a tablet with Android 4.4.2 and my Bluetooth keyboard doesn't work correctly on this . It does pair but the prints different characters for keys pressed. None of the numbers print for the correct input and also some letters .. eg when I press 'w' it prints 'z' and many similar errors. My tablet is 10.1 inch Polaroid MID4x10 and it works well for all other applications and the battery lasts for over 5hrs when playing 720p movies. It has GPS as well.
I believe that this version 4.4.2 of Android has been loaded with a wrong keyboard driver.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Check your keyboard settings Make sure that your keyboard is set up for the right country/language.
Because there is not a specific forum for your device, this thread will be moved to general/help

The Keyboard setting is (Android Keyboard (AOSP) English US), I guess it's ok.
But ... I have been looking around in the tablet and maybe discovered something:
The files used by the bluetooth keyboard are "Generic.kcm & Generic.kl" and that is the cause of the problem. The codes set in this file are NOT for qwerty layout. eg key marked 'Q' is assigned to character 'A' etc. These are in /system/usr/keychars, and /system/usr/keylayout folders respectively.
However ...there are qwerty.kcm & qwerty.kl files there as well in this same folders and they have the correct code assignment to the keys, but, I have no idea how to do settings to use them.
My tablet is not rooted and there is nothing available at present for rooting this device so I can't rename the files.
Any idea as to how to change to qwerty might solve the problem and will be of gr8 help to me.

There is no other keyboard shown apart from that. I believe (99% sure) that when I am using a basic Bluetooth keyboard it uses code settings from 'Generic.kcm'. I can also see that for internal built in pop-up keyboard it uses 'virtual.kcm' . I am working through this problem and soon I should conquer this problem
(I can't find any way of attaching a picture to this xda forum)
Problem Solved
The problem with my tablet is SOLVED now.
First I had to root the tablet using the method given here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/polaroid-p10-tablet-t2965944/post57415782#post57415782
Later I copied a file and renamed it. the actual steps are as follows:
(1) Rename /system/usr/keychars/Generic.kcm -> Generic.bak
(2) Copy /system/usr/keychars/qwerty.kcm and paste it in the same directory. The new file will be pasted as Copy.qwerty.kcm
(3) Rename the Copy.qwerty.kcm -> Generic.kcm
All the above operations were done using the app called Root_Explorer_v2.17.2.apk (Free App)
Make sure to mount the folder r/w before making the changes, after changes are complete than mount it back to r/o.
Now everything is running as good as Gold.
Rooting has made the tablet more fast to boot up and run. Love it now
This was done after so much of reading through the forums and working things out as it applied to my case.
