I need to connect an external USB Cam to a Smartphone to be used with Skype video conferencing (on the Smartphone !), with the ability to switch from internal Cam (front/rear) to external during the conference.
I would like also to have this feature, if possible, on my Galaxy S with Android 2.3.3 (without USB Host mode)
or at least on a Galaxy tablet with USB Host mode, running Android 4.xx
Any way ? Any solution ?
thanks in advance
First of all you need a kernel which supports usb hosting.
I wrote that it is also OK for Tablet with Android 4.xxx
And then ?
Interesting. My tablet got extra usb host. Hoping to know it.

Hi,
First, I'm new around here, so hello everyone!
I've purchased a P525 which I should receive soon.
My question
According to this article, the P525 might qualify as being host capable, meaning one could plug some USB card reader into the P525 USB port and use whatever data stored on a CF or SD card for instance. For example, I have a card reader and a 8GB CF card filled with music would it be possible to use this data using the P525? Does anyone ever attempted to use some host function on a P525?
I've googled this topic in every way but found no one that ever mentioned this was tried on a P525...
Huh? No one ever tried if host function works on a P525 ??
OK then, an easy one : I've noticed some of you are using a 4GB minisd card on their P525. I know the device will not comply with SDHC standard, but what about regular minisd? What combination of brand (TOPRAM?) and ROM does this need to work?
MANY THANKS !!
P525 has no support for USB host. This is hardware limitation.

Thank you Ingvarr ! Well, I've asked because if you follow the link to the article in my first post, you would read this:
«Intel has built in USB Host functionality into the PXA27x series of chips»
But of course, if ASUS never implemented it ... that's way too bad - unless someone finds out it can be done using a software solution. I just hope I'll find the way to have a 4GB minisd card to work with the P525, because 2GB is just too short.
HERE
There's someone named Ingvarr (coincidence?) who designed a nice little program that can play host with a WM5 device.
Can't wait to try it on my P525 once I get it...
OUPS ! Sorry Ingvarr.. I've just realized your app is not meant for what I had in mind... Nice program though.
Hello, I'm trying to use my old smartphone (android) as a seedbox.
The problem is that my phone does not support CIFS so I can not mount network drives on the phone (it does not support a SD big enough for the purpose). The HDD (500gb) is connected directly to my router so I can access to it by SAMBA but I can't mount it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_Livebox
So, anybody knows what can I do to fix this, or if there is any torrent client with samba support?
My phone is a fake Chinese phone with a MT6573 chipset
Thanks
I am interested too. I think this could be veeery interesting feature.
Any news 2 years afterwards?

In specs and images it was posted as (will insert image later)
(all is rather optimistic and NOT what it came like!)
it appeared as(will insert image later1)
and issues with me trying (and achieving some sort of control level) there from
(will insert image later)
varied degree of success working on it gets me to (will insert image later2)
So, I have managed to disable some apps, once managed to get mobile networking connections to the 1Mobile Market and get some apps to work, but not GooglePlayStore. Most of remaining (and new apps) are not in Chinese no more, so I am very hopefull, that with rooting I'll get rid of the rest of them gremlins.
Actual specs (will insert image later3)
The questions to you Gentleman (and) Ladies:
1- Do I have to (must) root the device, so that GooglePalyStore would work? as currently, it is installed, but majority of apps are kicking some or the the sort of errors(unsupported etc), and actual GoogleStore app- "works" via Browser...
2- If yes, how do I (step by step) root it in order to have better control? (what applications( with links please) I should install for such Odyssey and what order etc please!?
3- If rooting, is it possible to Get IE 4.4.0 ROM to install?(instead of 4.1.1)- what will happen to the features of IE analogTV receiver hardware management?
4- Would it matter at all, if device is not rooted, but intended to be installed iGo Primo is packaged somehow with GooglePlay app?- will it work? or will that "modified" app work with rooted device all together? (I already learned, that IE Traffic recorder apps are only available on Google)- meaning not available for me for now...
Very many thanks for the answers and ideas in advance!
Am I wrong in believing, that particular tablet is really just a different badge wearing JXD P1000 MTK8377 tablet?
Hardware specs seem to match, as well as appearance/hardware configuration seems ever so similar, is it that daft of an idea to consider rooting and replacing ROM with one, made for JDX device?

Hi. Such an app may already exist and have eluded my search terms.
I'm looking for a means to use an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace, in my case) as an external USB wired keyboard with a dev board and tiny 4" screen. This would save having to lug a convetional keyboard around!
Any help gratefully received!
Thanks.
Currently I'm using a custom ROM (CyanogenMod - CM12.1) on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 - SGH-T999) and I want to use my wireless adapter (Panda Wireless - PAU05). I am using a proper OTG cable as I have tested it on my USB as it has a light that did turn on (it's powering to the USB connection). I've heard that I might need to find the drivers (I know which chipset drivers it needs) and compile it into my android's ROM, but I want to make sure that is the deal. I must also know if in a chroot that all drivers being used are provided by the system or the download material in the ROM. If there is another way to allow support to my adapter to run that would be nice... If not then is the compiling for drivers on android similar enough to when compiling on any other Linux distro? If there is no way to do this on my phone then please let me know and why (I'd like to know so I am more familiar with problems like these). Thanks in the near future.
