Why do you need to disable it you can just simply don't use it.
Because i want to?! Actually no need to explain why.
I want it!.....if possible.
But ok.....I feel uncomfortable if a camera always watches me
It is like on my Laptop. I have disabled it in the Hardware Settings. If i need it i'll enable it.
And don't tell me you've never heard about webcam fraud.
I want the moderator to ban me.
Just stick a black piece of tape into it.
Or disassemble the phone and put the tape behind the glass.
You're gonna regret it, Snapchat is the new trend...
In the case that i really wanna use it it would be too complicated.
I was also thinkin about that.....Till now i have no use of Snapchat.
And i think that will last for a while. I am not the Hardcore chatter.
I'd use a black marker - maybe even a permanent one, if you wish.
Also an idea. But still i would prefere a software based solution if possible.

If software can disable the camera then software can enable to camera. If there is a way to disable the camera with software then a good hack can enable the camera.
Google might be buddies with the NSA but I highly doubt the front camera is watching you
Besides, I'd be more worried about them secretly tracking you using GPS, Wifi or cell tower triangulation

Not if you do not have administration rights and can handle this somehow in that way. Damit i'm rooted.
But switch as a widget or something can show if it is active or something.

I know i can't be 100% save. And it also not only against google.
It is also against all the other Apps which want your contacts and all other data which they want but which is not nesessary for an App to work.
I'm already restricting a lot with XPrivacy.
And from the Aluminuim Helmet i am still far away
But the useless collection of data annoys me.
Actually i have nothing to hide.
But i do it out of protest. And because i do not need most of the features which track me, give me advertising and other Bull****. I like it minimal (maybe i should buy not a smartphone, but without that i cant be on XDA ^^)
But it is not you who decides if you have something to hide or not. I even do not use Payback cards

I do actually agree with you
I also hate how we're treated as "products" by companies these days.... Facebook, Google, you name it. They exist to monetise their users and their personal information.
Like you I block a lot of apps from accessing my data and location etc... but I think you're out of luck with the camera other than using some tape!
The price for "Everything is Free" mentality. I even do not have a paid choice in this case ^^
And often i can not live without them anymore. Too used to these damn things. The strategy worked.
But i closed down my Gmail account. Now i use a russian provider:laugh::laugh::laugh:
And we are not treated as products. In the view of Google, Facebook and so on we are products.
Every product has some kind of properties. These properties are used to make personalized advertisement
So they want to sell me things which i never bought till now. For me this PA thing never worked. Ok i'm trying to avoid it is far as possible

Hmm Mobile Defense looks quite interesting, im going to give that a shot.
Wave secure is better because you can remote wipe!
I cant use both because they both dont support google voice SMSs

Smart man.
I've been using Mobile Defense since it first went public last year. I haven't had to use it yet except to beep my phone to find it if I misplace it in my house.
I wanted to try Wave Secure but I thought I read something about costing minutes or something so I just left it alone.
Can you install it as a system app like Mobile Defense so it runs hidden and can't be uninstalled? Can you enable the GPS remotely from a web page?

Nah wave secure doesn't cost anything I don't think, had it for a while now, never had to use it yet though.
The first time you install it and open it, it prompts you to go into the marketplace and download a specific app which makes wave secure immune to being uninstalled.
Can't enable gps either, if your gps is not on when you lose the phone tuff luck. When I tried it without gps being on it tracked me to the nearest cell tower (which is about 5kms away from where I am) good luck finding your phone then.
Does mobile defense offer the option to remotely turn on gps? I have yet to give it a try
May be good to note that wavesecure is international whereas mobile defense is only available in america for now

Texts from WaveSecure webpage to your phone are sent from Singapore. (Check out the WaveSecure webpage screenshot in the middle in red text.)
A few days after I first was playing around with it, my T-Mobile account did indeed note texts from Singapore. Luckily, they didn't charge me extra, but other carriers may be different.
-----
I don't know if either program can turn on GPS remotely. Does anyone know for sure? I haven't seen that option.
WaveSecure though the website can tell you where the phone is.
WaveSecure doesnt send text's etc without you knowing, i.e. when you want to locate phone, wipe it, lock it. These are done by Text so I dont think it would matter if you get charged as it's only if you lose it...

Exactly, why choose? They provide the best and some services are unique to each program. It would be in everyone best interest to get both.

Sonuva... I didn't see the whole singapore deal... since you mentioned it I decided to check and Tmobile definitely charged me for it. It's kind of bogus, too, because the number doesn't use country codes.
Bah.
I think I might jump over to mobile defense... I'm not sure what I was messing with, but wavesecure managed to send out 25 SMS messages from my phone. I can only think of one incident where it should have done it... I got a new SIM card and it sms'd my buddy list that they should notify me that my sim card was changed. Other than that, I haven't tooled around with it.
Lame

WTF? Who pays to receive texts? What does it matter where they come from? Mars as far as I care.
Can WaveSecure/Mobile Defense activate GPS if it is turned off if they are installed as system apps? I thought I read it could somewhere but I don't remember.
I go for mobile defense
Mobile Defense when you track your phone it gives you the exact street and house number of where the phone is.......Wave Secure dont!!!... Wave Secure has other tools to maximize security but at the end you just want to know where the hell is the phone to go and get it....
Mobile defense will turn on gps if your rooted

I'm wondering why people like WaveSecure so much? I think Mobile Defense looks better, cleaner, and helps you find your phone easier, and doesn't have the Singapore texts. Maybe I should have named the thread differently asking why people like WaveSecure so much
Or does it have nothing to do with the functionality, and just that Mobile Defense is US only?
Hi there. I need an app that mirrors the screen of my android phone to use it as a HUD in my car. I've already found an app that shows the current speed mirrored, but i would like to have it for other apps, too. So that i can use apps like Google Maps Navigation with my front window.
I googled a lot, but i sadly didn't find anything...
I'm confused.
You want this displayed ... how? where?
Please share the name/developer of the other app you've already found. Give us an idea of what you are talking about.
When you say HUD (heads up display), the only thing I can think of is some sort of projected display on your windshield
THAT WOULD EFFING AWESOME!!!!
if i understand Phexi right, he wants to put his phone under the windshield in a way that enables you to see the reflection of the screen in the windshield. works great during night trips.
usual problem - everything is mirrored.
wow that's a good idea!

Yeah, the "evrything is mirrored" can be a problem, but with the help of a homescreen widget (maybe with a mirrored text ) it should be possible to switch back very easily
With an AMOLED display it should look very good (when the rest is black), but it has to be mirrored to work.
should look like this then

If you are the first to do it, you could easily charge $1 and make a mint...I would recommend a trial version with a, say, 14 day trial period.
like so:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqtHZE-8fCw
is this it?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.scientific.car&hl=en
Any progress on this? This would be an excellent app idea but due to my limited development knowledge someone else will have to work on it. This app will allow anyone to use their phone/tablet to project image on a semi-reflective surface and serve as a cheap full-screen navigation/media center solution.
I will be willing to purchase it as an initial customer and even make a small donation for its development.
How bout the app up there?
No, the app in the link only mirrors some text based info. We need something that can flip the display contents on the y-axis. This way when you project the screen contents the reverse text and graphics appear normal. I do not believe there's anything in the market that currently offers to do this.

it should be easy to develop.
Or not?
Any updates on this anyone? There seems to be niche demand for this thereby warranting someone to do the great work.

Just guessing here but I would think that this would be easier accomplished baked in as a feature of a launcher or a ROM rather than an app

Wow, that would be annoying, did you try adfree?
You've installed something that's doing that. I had something similar myself but was lucky enough to identify the culprit (it was an MP3 downloader).
You can either post your complete app list here and hope someone recognises the app that's causing it, or you can factory reset and rebuild your phone app-by-app.
Another idea would be to round up any suspect apps (one's not installed from the market or ones that do "naughty things") and freeze them with Titanium Backup. If the problem goes away then you know you've narrowed it down.
Got rid of it.
Read another similar post that suggested it was Air Push. Downloaded Air Push Detector and it identified Mechanical gear live wall paper. Uninstalled it so its gone now. Shame cos I liked the wall paper.
I thought though that it would allow me to keep it but disable the spam.
Speaking of, I'm really concerned about some of the permissions that may invade my privacy. For example, I wonder if an app that requires access to my contact list is just accessing it to provide the service it is designed for or if it is sending that info back to the designer or marketing companies for the purposes of information gathering or further advertising.
Is there any way I can block these permissions on a grand scale without individually setting them with 'Permissions' app, which of course only works on a rooted unit. My TAB is rooted but my SGS2 is not and won't be till its out of warranty.
As an example:
An app called Wi-Fi Finder has a permission to 'directly call phone numbers'. I mean WTF. Firstly why does it need this permission and secondly WTF?
What possible reason could this app have to do this and who would it call and whats the privacy repurcussions for me?

Seems that requies the phone to be rooted
Addons Detector should find the culprit.
You're not going to be able to handle permissions at all if you're not rooted. The only apps I've seen for handling permissions do it on an app-by-app basis. I've not heard of anything that do it at a system-wide level. Obviously doing it at the system level would cause problems for the times when apps do legitimately need permissions you've blocked, but you're the user - that's your choice.
Maybe it's time to learn to dev
There are a few apps in the market that you can get to block these. I've still noticed the odd spam msg will get through though.
I downloaded a zombie game (cant remember which one) and i started getting the same spam messages frequently.. Just look back to any games you previously downloaded right before this started happening and delete it

I found out who is using the Green Smiley Face ad notification on the progress bar. Its from Go Dev Team. They have an app for keyboards. Go Keyboards. If you have it, then that's the ass app.
Sucks cause I like their work but hates ads enough to delete it. I sent them a long message about killing it for me and will warn who is pushing ads.

What if he just decides to drop it?
What if his site is hacked?
He can technically access this stuff...Not saying he would but it sure seems like a lot of trust to put in someone you'll never know.

Installing this in my GTAB too !
This is one application I can never complain about.
I travelled to India around 4 months back and lost my phone when I was shopping.
I complained to the police and the cybercell about it.
I was so upset becoz I had lot personal info in the phone and ofcourse its an expensive phone too.
Then i went home and started to search the web for something like findmyphone. Then I found this app.
( I had samsungdive installed but it did not give me the location info)
Installed this OTA in my phone and started tracking my phone.
Police was then able to follow my guide and was able to locate the phone.
All this was done free.
Had I not had this app it was garunteed lost.
EDIT : the best thing is that if you have a google account with android market in your phone , u can even install it after you loose ur phone
Here's an actual link to the app (why isn't it in the OP?):

Prey is another app that is more restrained but gives you similar features to track the devices, lock it down, erase it etc. It's also free.
Also, Lookout which also has a malware scanner.

assuming who stole/found your phone will not unlink the phone from your google account or just factory resets it... And I guess this would be the firts thing anyone non-honest would do.

I'm happy with the battery performance, but only when the screen is on. When I use the phone mostly with the screen on, I get good SOT(6-9 hours), but with the screen off, the battery consumption is terrible. How can I pull this down?
Probably a cloud app; try temporarily disabling Google play Services, Google backup is a dependency as is Playstore, Gmail. Some apps also need it to run. I enable it once or twice a day. Disabled saves 1+%@hr.
Trashware social media apps like fb, WhatsApp etc shouldn't be installed. It all adds up.
6 hours SOT with a 5002 mAh battery isn't good, 9 hrs is fair to poor. That said all Samsung's should be optimized for best performance.
Thanks for your opininon. Are you saying we shouldn't use Whatsapp? Is it real solution?
Unfortunately, because of SD 8 gen 1 limitations (probably worse on Exynos variant), about 6-7 hours SOT is best you're going to get on the S22 ultra.
Try the following guide here & see if it helps your battery life.
I have the Exynos version. My phone has a SOT of about 10 to 12 hours. Rooted and bebloated. I do have the brightness very low though.
Android 13.
OneUI 5.
Latest.
Lightly debloated.
That's interesting. I guess depends on what apps the phone is using during SOT.......
Mind sharing your battery usage breakdown screenshot?

Real as it gets. All social media apps should never be installed. Many should even be logged on to. WhatsApp track record is stunningly bad.
Lots of users means its got a huge bullseye on it even if they try to secure it, it will hacked again like the sun rises in the morning... for sure. Meanwhile phishing scams run under the radar and count on you screwing up. And many do.
You got to ask yourself one question,

No really. The problem is that all the apps developed by Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp) are power hogs. Meta does not care if it chews up battery. The primary reason is that Meta is shoving ads in your face. Even when your screen is off, those apps are running in the background. Meta is not the only offender. There are plenty of other app developers that do the same thing.
Also, there are different "flavors" of Android. Each OEM implements it differently (even within the OEMs). This makes it less cost effective to customize their apps for each OEM. There is only one flavor of iOS and iPadOS, so it is much easier to tweak it for iPhones and iPads than it is for Android devices.
I understand. Thanks. I have another question. You said you turned off google play services. When I turn it off, notifications do not work and many applications do not work. How do you overcome this situation?

It doesn't effect any notifications for me that I use except Gmail. Most my apps run without it. I tend to shun those that do.
Some of the Samsung apps take the place of Google apps, no need to run both.
If killing Google play Services helps at night it's likely Google backup Transport running.
Hello, I have something to ask about. I need to know if there is any ability to store a system application variables usin adb. Imagine that I want to open my settings app and do something mabye a confirmation dialog will be shown in order to say something such as alert for something supposed that I did click on OK, i the normal case this alert will never be shown even if you clear the settings app data or clear the cash, is there any way to use adb to store the settings app data before opening it the if anything as the previous senario happened I can restore the settings app to the moment before clicking on the OK button or even before this alert has shown

Many apps that "need" Google play Services are Playstore pay apps. This can be circumvented by first allowing the app to activate, then firewall blocking their internet connection. Firewall block Playstore as well although it should be disabled except when needed.
If an app doesn't need internet access to function it should be firewall blocked anyway.
