Hi I have a Nexus S on 4.0.4 and I am having trouble connecting to my school wifi. It is a WPA2 Enterprise network with mschapv2 authentication, my phone doesn't see it at all even though my friend next to me can connect fine on a fourth gen iPod Touch. Could someone please help me as this is quite frustrating.
Cheers Liam

AFAIK, Android 4.0.4 does not support it. May be Jellybean supports it. You'll need a patched wpa_supplicant file to connect to enterprise networks.
Do you not see the network or are you unable to connect it?
Thanks but that doesn't help very much as my phone won't even display the network in the list, I've tried everything I can think of and range can't be a problem as I stand like 5 metres from the access point

Hey thanks for the help, unfortunately Jelly Bean doesn't work either, I've downgraded to Gingerbread though as I can connect on my old Galaxy Ace, so fingers crossed.

I thought if it'll work since Samsung might've fixed the problem in Ace. But there's no harm in trying. [emoji2]
If it doesn't work then you might as well try a KitKat ROM.
All the best!

for some reason my GT-P6210 doesnt pick my cell phones wi fi hot spot... my ipad picks up the cell wifi hot spot wit zero issue.... any suggestions?
I am sure you tried it already, but you may want to turn the wifi off and then back on, and/or reboot your device.
P_
Yea tried that that....
The 7+ can't connect to ad-hoc hotspots...
If you're phone is running an ad-hoc hotspot instead of infrastructure, you won't be able to tether to it.
AKA... Samsung/Atheros sucks.
thanx... I tried a different app and that solved the issue
I am having the same problem, so would really appreciate it if you let us know which app solved the problem. Thanks in advance

I'm using Wireless Tether 2.0.5-pre9 on my rooted Evo 4g. I'm using the pre9 version because there was talk on an evo root forum about other versions not working.

Needs a modified wpa_supplicant file
The GT 70+ needs a modified wpa_supplicant to allow it to see adhoc WiFi networks. The reason slyd0997 was able to get tethering to work was because they are using an EVO 4G phone and that phones WiFi hotspot is infastructure and not adhoc. Until a modified wpa_supplicant file is made available for this tab (I would do it myself but have no idea how too), tethering to a WiFi hotspot on a phone that is adhoc and not infastructure is out of the question. Modified wpa_supplicant files are available for other tablets (eg: Motorola Xoom) so we know it can be done. Is there anyone with the knowledge and access to a GT 7.0+ that would like to take this challenge on? I know that there would be a community of very gratefull GT 7.0+ users who would be forever in your debt and would name their first born child after you if you could do this. Okay, Okay...you might have to settle for just gratefull......

Not likely to happen - after chatting with garyd9, it sounds like Samsung put some Atheros-specific customizations into wpa_supplicant and is not releasing the source for these modifications (they're playing games with the dual-license nature of this item). So a standard wpa_supplicant likely won't work.
you can tether to your phone to your tab via bluetooth...it works using my mopho
I use this, it works great on my SII.

Ok, maybe it is not related to ics.
After installing ics, I lost my vnp connection for the office (maybe because I was not using any lock screen before)
I have re-entered my vpn, but now I always get a "timeout" when I try to connect
Do any of you who are using vpn's connection also have this issues, or maybe I have something wrong in my vpn settings ?
I noticed going from my Epic 4g Touch to my Galaxy Nexus I can no longer connect to the Cisco vpn at my workplace either. It has been most inconvenient. My ubuntu netbook and windows 7 alienware all connect to it just fine.
My first question would have to be whether or not it's an official ICS ROM that you have. If it's not then you may well not find an answer to your problem until you do have an official version. I'm living with quite a few bugs in ICS at the minute, but I expect that as there hasn't been a version released for my phone yet. If it's something you can't live without you may have to consider going back to GB.
The stock firmware, no root here.
Anyone using their tf101 stock with ics Can confirm vpn is working ?
Sorry wrong thread, I moved it to tf101
Everyone seems to be having an issue tethering to the Xoom.......the whole ad-hoc issue. I can't be sure this will work for everyone but I have 9 devices and have managed to get them all to offer the Xoom a reliable connection.
I use a deprecated version of wifi tether and a couple of settings.
Root is of course required on whatever phone you are using.
I will attempt to link but this is my first post so I don't think I can. But I will steer you in the best way I can.
Edit: I was able to link the file.
Make sure you have checked "allow unknown sources" in settings.
Install the app.
Open the app.
Go into the app settings and change Device-profile to "Google NexusOne".
Change the Setup-Method to "Netd(master)".
Leave everything else alone.
Hopefully you can now enjoy the tether expeience on your Xoom.
Please let me know of your success/failure. I'm curious to know if this works for everyone.
P.S. Mods: Based on the response, and of course at your discretion, IF this is generally successful, can we possibly sticky? I have seen no less than 30-40 posts re: this issue.
P.P.S. I'm a long time lurker, and cannot find the words to express how much this site, and the wonderful devs have benefited my life.
Thanks to all and hope this works for you!

Didn't work for me
Motorola MB508
wifi-tether versions 3.0-pre12 and 3.1-beta11
Regrettably the adhoc problem is more complex. Some devices, for various reasons, can only broadcast in adhoc mode. And for complex reasons, the xoom running ics has a whole new wireless system which has made connecting to adhoc insanely difficult. Good news is we have a solution but its ugly. But it works.
wow it works
Thanks
Works for me running Wi-Fi 3.1-beta 7
From MB855
3/4 G works
Currently on 3.2.6
now does this work with ICS roms?
Flashed ICS from now it doesn't seem to work...bummer
Sent from my Xoom using XDA
It quit working for me when I upgraded to ICS too. Hopefully when I get my Note on Sunday I can tether again.
Incredible but it works for me
Incredible but it works for me
Xoom 2.6.39.4 Cyanogenmod
Android 4.0.4

HTC HD2 with Android on SD Card
I've been using open garden on my phone to tether with Bluetooth , works perfectly and is a little easier on battery

If you haven't unlocked bootloader, you can get the device back to warranty service .
^^ thanks for the reply , but after googling i came to know that wep and open wifi networks are adhoc networks and android does not detect adhoc networks unless you are rooted and have some adhoc modules. thread can be deleted . thank you

But with everything that root offers you, why would you NOT want to root? If you follow instructions properly, and do what you get told to do, you shouldn't ever need your warranty... Unless you have butter fingers and drop the device! Lol.
If the only way you can connect to WEP networks is by rooting, then go for it! It's gives you more freedom over your device

yeah you are right and that is what i did with my tablet 8 months ago . and in the end i completely messed it up. see my first thread from 8 months ago
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497190
still haven't found the complete fix for it . the touch is still inaccurate. so i value phone warranty more than anything else now.
also
my experience with my previous phone was not that good. i got replaced my first phone 3 times. second phone nokia n73 was perfect and is running for more than 3 years now. But that was nokia . i can close my eyes and trust on a nokia product at least the old ones like n73 , n95 but i am new to htc. Yeah you are right but till then i can use wpa2 no problems .
I used to connect to wep connection when i had not rootef my phone

Guys..
I had the same problem...
It worked for me when I restarted both mobile and Router at the same time ...
Hi !
Here is my question (sorry if it has already been asked...)
Since i updated to JB, i can't connect to the wifi hotspots.
I live in France, and am a Free mobile user.
I use freewifi connect app, but it fail to login everytime...
I tried with many ROM, but nothing...
Do somebody know any tips?
Thanks in advance!
A Little up, cause i still can't find any solution to make this f%&#in app running!
I also tried the other freewifi apps, but sameway....
only way to connect on hotspots is passing threw the freewifi website but have to check the connection to often: tried....
Custom AOSP ROM should have Wifi tether. How about trying the app Wifi Tether for Root User? I used to use it when I was on rooted stock Touchwiz.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Edit: just realized this is NS forum and I thought I was in the GS3 forum LOL. I'm a veteran on this NS forum btw . But that app worked for me.

maybe I'm wrong, but it appears op is wanting to connect his ns to a WiFi hotspot, not use his ns to create a WiFi hotspot...
OP, what ROM are you running?

did you do a full wipe, including /system & /boot?
Sent from my ns4g using Tapatalk 2
Yup!
Everytime that i flash, i wipe everything...
Today i tried on GB, and like ICS: no problem...
I believe this issue is over my head... hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can help
Sent from my ns4g using Tapatalk 2
did you try a different wifi connection to determine if it's really your phone's problem? maybe the wifi signal is slow that's why it can't connect.
In fact, At home i got internet via FREE (web provider).
Each free boxes include one hotspot. So i can say that the signal is the best that i can get!
I think that it may be an app problem, is there any universal hotspot app to try?
Hey I can just say that I was in France recently and couldn't connect to any of those free wifi spots
Hmmm
It may be cause you need to have an ID & pass !
have you tried unchecking the "avoid poor connections" under advanced settings? thats the last thing I can think of.
Sent from my ns4g using Tapatalk 2
As said previously, i have a hotspot at home (Best way for making tests...)
Also, as it works on GB & ICS, why not on JB? :banghead:
try removing the password of your wifi hotspot at home then see if you can connect.
Not a bad idea!
At work right now (ICS & hotspot running...), gonna take a look later!
The idea was not so bad, but in fact i can't put blank password....
Any suggestion is welcome!
I'd you are rooted, backup with Titanium or similar app, backup SD card, wipe phone of everything (data, cache, system, boot). Format SD through the computer.
Now flash factory. Guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572307
If the problem still persists it is probably hardware. Use warranty or pay to have it fixed.

Hi!!
Don't want to hurt you, but i think that an harware issue would really surprise me, as it run perfectly on GB or ICS (actualy on ICS RR, perfect hotspot connection At work...).
Anyway! Just saw that last TSM is out, gonna take a look! ^^
EDIT: can't understand how it's possible, but working on last TSM... another try on BB6 later...
