Galaxy 7.0 plus tab doesnt see my cell phone wifi hot spot - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

for some reason my GT-P6210 doesnt pick my cell phones wi fi hot spot... my ipad picks up the cell wifi hot spot wit zero issue.... any suggestions?

I am sure you tried it already, but you may want to turn the wifi off and then back on, and/or reboot your device.
P_

Yea tried that that....

The 7+ can't connect to ad-hoc hotspots...
If you're phone is running an ad-hoc hotspot instead of infrastructure, you won't be able to tether to it.
AKA... Samsung/Atheros sucks.

thanx... I tried a different app and that solved the issue

I am having the same problem, so would really appreciate it if you let us know which app solved the problem. Thanks in advance

I'm using Wireless Tether 2.0.5-pre9 on my rooted Evo 4g. I'm using the pre9 version because there was talk on an evo root forum about other versions not working.

Needs a modified wpa_supplicant file
The GT 70+ needs a modified wpa_supplicant to allow it to see adhoc WiFi networks. The reason slyd0997 was able to get tethering to work was because they are using an EVO 4G phone and that phones WiFi hotspot is infastructure and not adhoc. Until a modified wpa_supplicant file is made available for this tab (I would do it myself but have no idea how too), tethering to a WiFi hotspot on a phone that is adhoc and not infastructure is out of the question. Modified wpa_supplicant files are available for other tablets (eg: Motorola Xoom) so we know it can be done. Is there anyone with the knowledge and access to a GT 7.0+ that would like to take this challenge on? I know that there would be a community of very gratefull GT 7.0+ users who would be forever in your debt and would name their first born child after you if you could do this. Okay, Okay...you might have to settle for just gratefull......

Not likely to happen - after chatting with garyd9, it sounds like Samsung put some Atheros-specific customizations into wpa_supplicant and is not releasing the source for these modifications (they're playing games with the dual-license nature of this item). So a standard wpa_supplicant likely won't work.

you can tether to your phone to your tab via bluetooth...it works using my mopho

I use this, it works great on my SII.

Tab connect to wifi tether (mobile)

Sorry off this had been asked already. mods please delete if it is. Can the tab connect to a rooted phone with wifi tether? This is a deal breaker for me if it can't connect.
Yes it can, I'm sending this via my Tab, tethered to my rooted EVO.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab using XDA App
there are some phones that dont create a real hot spot but an
"ad hoc"- hotspot. if your phone does this you cannot connect your tab to it.
also with my desire i wanst able to connect (or find) ad hoc - wifi's until there was a fix released and then it worked.
i am still waiting for all the developers to start working on this awesome device!

Are you using wireless tethering? Also, did you have to do any other special tweaking to set-up? Just curious because I am waiting for the WiFi only version and want to tether with my Fascinate when needed...

My EVO is rooted and running Myn's Warm ROM. I'm using wireless tether. Turn it on, my Tab connects and away I go.

I must have missed your explanation of ruining an expensive device. Can you explain???
instead, can i use tab as a hotspot and my laptop connects to it? so i can use my tab data plan on my laptop?
"Conctify" is a freeware utility which can help you create a hot spot on you laptop (win7). Depending on hardware it allows to create an "ad-hoc" or true hot spot. Galaxy Tab doesn't support ad-hoc hot spot out of the box. I am also waiting for the fix. My laptop allowed creating only a ad-hoc hot spot, so I got this Asus U8B-N13 wifi N USB dongle. My tab is now connected to my laptop's hot spot with the help of this dongle and "Conctify".
i thether my rooted Incredible to my tab. It works great. i installed wireless tether for root users.

so is wifi tether on your incredible and your connecting the tab to it or vice versa?
Why are you making this sooo hard?thats what she said.
Depending on what kind of hot spot yiur rooted phone makes, the tab might connect.
I have a nexus one, connects in a sec. No prob.

It's not that hard gang. Fire up wireless tether on your host device (in my case my EVO) then turn on wifi on the Tab and connect.

Yes you can connect the tab to a wifi hotspot from your phone if you are using an official wifi hotspot application from your carrier. If it creates a "real" wifi hotspot then it should work that is likely what misticjeff is using. If such is availible to you then that should work.
If like me(using an original Droid) you dont have access to an offical app on your phone and are instead using wifi tether or a similar app from the market then your phone will be creating a ad hoc hotspot. Ad Hoc networks by default are currently not recognised by android, fortunatly it can easily be modified to find them as has already been discussed in the following thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838136
I'm not sure how many times I need to say it gang. I'm not using an official hotspot. I'm using my rooted EVO and the Wireless Tether app to set up a hotspot, then connecting my Tab to my EVO's hotspot. I'm NOT using the built in Sprint hotspot, and in fact don't even have it installed with this ROM.

I just noticed you are running:
Device: HTC EVO 4G
ROM: Cyanogen CM6 RC1
Radio: 2.05.00.06.10
Cyanogen has the Ad Hoc fix built into the rom as I understand it so maybe that is why you are not having any issues. People using other roms may not have it cooked into theirs already and the Thread I posted earlier seems to be working for others solution. My Droid 1 for instance running BB 0.6 was using wifi tether and my TAB was not able to find the network until I applied the fix.
Obviously the credit goes out to the one who compiled wpa_supplicant for Galaxy devices.

and actually that needs to be updated as I'm not running CM6 any longer on my EVO, i'm running Myn's Warm 2.2.
I have a Rooted EVO, with no custom ROM, and the Wireless Tether app. It connects to my Sprint Tab flawlessly.

[Q] Going absolutely nuts trying to tether TF to my captivate

Hi Guys,
In the last three days I've learned how to root my captivate, side-load apps, installed barnacle and wifi tether, all in the hopes of using my TF while on the road with my Captivate.
Unfortunately I cant get BT or Ad Hoc tethering to work.
I get the paired but not connected error when using BT
My TF is 8.2.3.13 so I can't root (without downgrading to 8.2.3.9 which I'm kind of afraid to do).
Does anyone know if I need to install a custom rom on my captivate in order to get the BT to tether?
I've probably read 100 threads in hopes of getting this to work, but at this point I might have to return the TF and get an ipad (yuck) just to get some connectivity for working on the road.
Any suggestions would be very very appreciated.
Regards,
wunshot
I'm assuming you want to use internet from your phone to tether to the tablet correct? Installing a custom rom is one way of achieving this. I use cognition rom which comes with the ability to tether through wifi. You need to activate that on the phone and have the tablet connect to the phone's wifi network.
I'm not sure if you were doing this but you cannot create an ad hoc network on the tablet and connect the phone to it to tether. The phone has to be the host and the tablet the client.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
You don't want bluetooth. SirSid is on the right track suggesting the custom ROM although there are other ways that might not be as simple.
You want to turn on Mobile AP (Access Point) which turns your Cappy into a wifi hotspot and you're good to go. Go check the Captivate forums on how to achieve Mobile AP without much trouble. If you try to use it on a stock froyo cappy it will warn you about needing a tethering plan with ATT, you can easily remove the plan check using TiBu and it's all spelled out in the Cappy forums.

I use Captivate all the time and I can turn on the mobile hotspot and have my TF connect to it.
Atleast I'm not aware of being able to do BT tethering on a Captivate. I'm interested to know, if its even possible. Lets post a thread on the Captivate forum.
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, i plan on using my phone as the wifi host. I will give that cognition rom a shot. Im assuming the cognition rom creates the wifi network using infrastructure rather than ad hoc...is that the case?

Have no idea, I know it just works, it's actually a part of Android since Froyo, it just needs to be enabled and/or not checked if you don't have a tether plan.
I think cognition just uses the defualt android AP app. It creates the network in infrastructure mode if I remember right.
In any case, it just works
(Its located in Settings >> Wireless and network >> Mobile AP)
It supports bluetooth tethering as well, but the tablet would need to recognize it as a bluetooth modem. I have not tried that yet. Using a usb tether would probably be best if it works however. Using wifi tether drains battery faster than than my car charger can charge my phone. I still manage to loose battery even when its plugged in.
Sweet...I'll install cognition when I get home and see where I stand. Thanks for the advice...I'll updater you in a few hours with my results
OP, I have a rooted cappy with firefly rom on it. Super easy to do and its stable and allows for wifi hot spot without stupid ATT finding out you are tethering.
http://www phoenix-hq com/firefly/
It is a legit stable rom. I am able to wifi tether easily with my TF, no problems.
I'm on a stock froyo captivate Mobile AP works fine for tethering, can't figure out bluetooth. I tried for a couple of hours but gave it up Mobile AP works great, although I hear bluetooth saves battery?
EDIT: sorry it's a rogers captivate, i believe US is still on 2.1 nvm!

I don't understand why your getting into the Ad-hoc thing. Any rooted ROM you install on the Captivate, you can make your phone a Wifi hotspot via Mobile AP settings. That would create a Wifi network from the phone, and you can connect to that network in the TF.

I tested my Capativate with CyanogenMod 7 rom. It has "Tethering & portable hotspot" feature built-in. I tried it on my friend's TF yesterday and it actually works great!!!
I put cognition on my phone and it worked like a charm.....thanks!

Wifi Tether Your XOOM ?SOLVED?

Everyone seems to be having an issue tethering to the Xoom.......the whole ad-hoc issue. I can't be sure this will work for everyone but I have 9 devices and have managed to get them all to offer the Xoom a reliable connection.
I use a deprecated version of wifi tether and a couple of settings.
Root is of course required on whatever phone you are using.
I will attempt to link but this is my first post so I don't think I can. But I will steer you in the best way I can.
Edit: I was able to link the file.
Make sure you have checked "allow unknown sources" in settings.
Install the app.
Open the app.
Go into the app settings and change Device-profile to "Google NexusOne".
Change the Setup-Method to "Netd(master)".
Leave everything else alone.
Hopefully you can now enjoy the tether expeience on your Xoom.
Please let me know of your success/failure. I'm curious to know if this works for everyone.
P.S. Mods: Based on the response, and of course at your discretion, IF this is generally successful, can we possibly sticky? I have seen no less than 30-40 posts re: this issue.
P.P.S. I'm a long time lurker, and cannot find the words to express how much this site, and the wonderful devs have benefited my life.
Thanks to all and hope this works for you!

Didn't work for me
Motorola MB508
wifi-tether versions 3.0-pre12 and 3.1-beta11
Regrettably the adhoc problem is more complex. Some devices, for various reasons, can only broadcast in adhoc mode. And for complex reasons, the xoom running ics has a whole new wireless system which has made connecting to adhoc insanely difficult. Good news is we have a solution but its ugly. But it works.
wow it works
Thanks
Works for me running Wi-Fi 3.1-beta 7
From MB855
3/4 G works
Currently on 3.2.6
now does this work with ICS roms?
Flashed ICS from now it doesn't seem to work...bummer

It quit working for me when I upgraded to ICS too. Hopefully when I get my Note on Sunday I can tether again.
Incredible but it works for me

I've been using open garden on my phone to tether with Bluetooth , works perfectly and is a little easier on battery

[Q] ad hoc tethering, a real solution?

I've tried a few wpa sup files and have had limited results. As soon as I think it's fixed, it craps out on me. I can't get foxfi to run on my S3 nor will any other app work. I can get Bluetooth tethering but of course that is slow. Currently running CleanRom 2.3 on the tab and JellyWiz rls8 on the S3. Willing to switch if someone has a real solution.
Edit: I'm using the wifi hotspot on the S3 which I believe is using AP not ad hoc. The tfi tries to connect the authenticate and then says saved. It repeats this and never gets a connection.
I am having issues with the BLuetooth tethering. We all have our cross to bear, don't we? Indeed, I believe you're right with the SIII doing AP as does my SII -- I haven't tried FoxFi yet, might give it a whirl. I can find this thread back now, so when I get something to work, I'll report back in.

[Q] Hotspot doesn't work on KitKat Killer

Hey Josh Beach and anyone else way more steeped in this stuff than I
I'm new to custom ROMs and I appreciate everyone on XDA for all the incredible knowledge and help!!
I flashed KitKat Killer to my new T-Mobile Samsung Note 3 and I can't get the built-in hotspot to work. My iPad sees it and accepts the password but after well over 5 minutes, nothing. When I had a Sprint Note 3 and flashed KitKat Killer, it worked great. One difference is that with the Sprint, I went through a tethering step using Bluetooth, I think. Here, I get directed to a Tether page with nothing on it.
The only relevant post I could find is this:

Sometimes it can take a few ,minutes to initialize... try changing the name of the SSID for the hotspot, also, turn off encryption.
wait for pc to ask, home, public, etc. I always choose home. then you should be good to go....
if it doesn't work., smash your PC, and hope you have warranty.
