[Q] Nexus 5 or 6 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Finally able to convince the wife to let me upgrade our phones. I'm coming from an optimus g pro & she's coming from an LG motion.
Should we grab nexus 5s or wait for the 6?

I'd pull the trigger and buy the 5. There is no better phone on the market right now, for me that is. The six won't release until the end of the year, if Google even makes a six. Let's say they do make a six and you want it, just sell the five on swappa and buy the six. The five won't depreciate that much being it's already cheap as hell.
Tldr- buy the 5

Galaxy Nexus- Released in November 2011
Nexus 4- Released in November 2012
Nexus 5- Released- Practically November 2013 (October 31)
Logically, this would say that assuming there is a next Nexus, it would be around November of this year. Which is 5 1/2 months away. However, there's more to it than that. Just because a Nexus device is released in November does not mean you can get your hands on one that month. Often times, unless you know when the link to buy the phone is going online and mash your refresh button, you are going to have to wait at least a month. So assume 6 1/2 to 7 months before you get your hands on the next one.
Besides, Nexus 5 will certainly get the next few major android updates and is still one of the most powerful android devices of all time. With no bloatware. Or encrypted $#@^%#$%$#% bootloaders (thanks so much, Samsung).

Just go ahead and get the Nexus 5 right now. You can rest assured that Google will still continue to update it with the latest Android versions as soon as they release, plus in over 2 years when Google drops support, the developer community will still continue to support the Nexus 5. I would say that it is the most futureproof phone compared to its competitors right now.

Go for the Nexus5...you can always upgrade later. Plus the wife will like seeing you with a Nexus5!

Get the 5. There'll always be a newer/shinier version on the horizon, I've had this phone since February and it's fantastic.

We don't even know there will be another nexus for sure do we? Speculation was Tue nexus range is being dropped

If you want the phone get it. At this point we don't even know if Google is continuing the Nexus line in its current form, we don't know who is going to manufacture the next developer phone or what it's going to cost, or even when it's coming out. At this point it's all speculation. If you want a Nexus, get the N5.

I recently got nexus 5 and I like it a lot!! At first I was leaning toward HTC sense but I am glad I didn't made that choice.

On what basis are you saying that the next Nexus will come soon??
The next Nexus hasn't even been rumoured yet and there are many articles stating that Google might dump the Nexus line.
Even if there was a Nexus 6 (or whatever number is given), it will still take about 6 months for it to be released!

[Q] Nexus 4 now or wait for 5....

Hey everyone,
I am currently using a SGS1 and am thinking it's time for a new phone...
I am thinking I want to go with a Nexus phone, but can't decide whether to pull the trigger on the 4 or wait for the 5, some rumors are saying that the 5 is coming in May? If that is true I will wait but if not I think I may go for the 4...
What do y'all think I should do?
With Google IO in May I would wait for the N5 if your current phone is still useable. But I'm not sure if the 5 will come out that soon...
If you cant stand your ancient S1 dinosaur then just bite the bullet and get a N4! It's pretty good anyway

I would suggest to get the Nexus 4.. Currently there are no creditable source saying about Nexus 5, all are just rumors and do you really think it will be coming this May so soon after releasing Nexus 4?
Even if there is.... looking at the previous Nexus phone timeline my guess it would likely be annouce or release it somewhere on Nov or later.

[Q] Does "announced" mean "release date"?

With all the rumors getting thrown around, and the newest saying Oct. 15th, does Google announcing the Nexus 5 mean its going to be released that day? By release, I mean available to buy from a carrier, mine's being T-Mobile. I upgraded to a LG G2 two days ago and I'm hoping the Nexus 5 gets released within 12 days so I can go return the G2 and get the N5 instead.

Not necessarily. Most of the time smartphones are "announced" first and then they are "released" at a later date. Rumors have been pointing to an end of this month release. If anything, that G2 is a great phone in of itself. Just throw Nova Launcher on it and you got yourself a make-shift Nexus 5.
Google is following Apple's "release at announcement", so when its announced you'll be able to order it.

I just want them to get to it already this is just dragging on. I mean honestly I'm tired of bloatware and tired of the rooting process. I just want a phone that works with great updates and great specs. This nexus 5 will fit the bill so just drop it already goggle

[Q] Nexus 5

Hi, recently with the Android L Announcement I decide to buy a Nexus 5 Phone, I have a note 3 right now. but I want to have a second device. So here is my question:
Should I buy the nexus 5?
I´m asking this because I think there will be a Nexus 6, so should I buy it or wait for the next version of nexus?. or what do you think for Moto G as an alternative for the Nexus?
Thanks.

If my foresight right then you wont see any nexus 6 for about a year. Next coming device will be tablet which will replace nexus 7 (2012) and/or Nexus 10 around late autumn or early winter. Then after that in 2015 from may to july a phone will gets released to replace nexus 4

HAHAHA worst....rumor.....ever
IF, and i mean IF, a Nexus 6 is to be released, it will be around October or November, like the other Nexus phone releases.
If you have SOLID proof to say other wise, please make me feel stupid. Otherwise, keep in mind rumors are rumors.
Don't buy a Nexus 5 just because of the "L" developer preview.
If you want the nexus 5 for android L then just wait for it's release, it's the most probable moment for the announcement of a "nexus 6"

You are right, I will wait until the official update is up for all.
Thanks

Will you buy the nexus 6 or stay with the nexus 5?

Will you guys get the nexus 6 when it's available for sale or stick with the nexus 5 cause I've bought the nexus 5 about only a month ago and the phones get to my country overpriced -the 16 GB nexus 5 was about 500$- so I'm worried people might stop developing for or using the nexus 5 cause I may not be able to get the nexus 6
How many threads do you need to make?
There is already a "Nexus 6" thread in the General section.
I suppose this is different from speculation. Anyway, I think it all depends on what it will offer. Possibly bigger battery, better camera. Some new and original features. Processor/RAM doesn't really matter to me. It's already fast. I think I'm leaning on keeping it just because we will have Android L to play with so the software will be the same. However, if it has unique features I might get it.
I usually get the next Nexus pending price...
Assuming the price, I'll be hitting up the Nexus 6, and getting my girl to switch from Verizon to AT&T and give her my Nexus 5.
You damn Skippy I'm going to buy the nexus 6.

Not if it has a huge screen. I am not interested in a phablet.

Nexus 5- How Long Will This Phone Continue To Be Supported?

Nexus 5 ROM Support
I am looking into buying a Sprint Nexus 5 but I know that it is almost 2 years old . Roughly how long do you guys think it will still be supported by ROM developers for?

There are a LOT of ROMs for this device, seeing as it's a Nexus, and all the ROMs will be updated one Marshmallow is released.
But honestly, most of these ROMs all do the same exact thing, so there's a ton of variety to choose from, but they all almost have the same features and stuff.
But, then again, you might just wanna skip this phone altogether and go straight to the new Nexus 5X once it's released next week or whatever.

I would wait and jump on he 5X, its going to be a beast, and at $399-$449 why not grab the latest toy for $50-$100 more than the original 5
P.S. but to answer ur question, the Nexus 5 is only two years old, I still see active development on the Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S2, which are both pushing 4+ years, so I'd say if ur heart is sold on the 5, ur going to get at least another 2yrs out of it
