So, i'm going to be rooting my G2 here in the next few days. I was wondering if my steps for rooting and then installing this would work. any insight anyone has will be extremely appreciated. Now, i'm on 4.4.2 now so i know i'll use this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2673736) to do so. However, i'm wondering if i dont need to follow it EXACTLY to get what i want. Shouldn't i be able to follow it to downgrade and install a custom recovery, but instead of flashing the rom in step 6, just flash SuperSU, flash custom ROM, flash GAPPs, and then flash the D801 KK modem?
I'm asking because i dont want to have a stock LG rom, but a custom one.

Ok if you are on 4.4.2 you will need to downgrade. The easiest method for me was tot method. You need to instal drivers on windows 7 64bit, then lg flash tool 1.8 , download 4.2.2 tot and ioroot.Go in download mode on your phone, change usb communication port in device manager in windows to 41.load the tot file and the dll file (needed to communicate with your phone) in the lg flash tool, restart the phone leave the cable plugged in and the downgrade will get hapen. Then autoroot via adb and ioroot. Sorry for my grammar O and then you ned to install autorec or flashify to be able to flash recovery, restart in recovery instal whatever you want Cm11 or stock(need a special kernel if you have purchased the phone lately)diferent hardware.ask me to clarify if you want.bye

So, I'm installing an custom rom for the 1st time.
So, my phone and other details;
Samsung Galaxy S Plus
Android 2.3.5 Stock
SIM-Locked.
Wanting this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315448
I know I lose the warranty, but i dont really care as there is like 2-3 months left.
I have some big questions, as im a noob!
1) Can being SIM-Locked cause any problems?
2) I read, that you don't have to root to install it.
3) How do I install it? I know something about root/Custom ROM's, but no idea about kernels/recoverys. Full tutorial if possible!
You need to install CWM recovery because You can flash new roms through it.. And for install CWM. You must have a rooted device. So Do this before installing any rom. Make sure You install rom of ur own device.
This is step by step guide of how to root ur device http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/29/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-plus-i9100/
This is guide of installing CWM or TWRP recovery.. I recommend u to install CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463347
After completing this two process u can install any rom by following the instructions given in the OP of the rom.
Since my AT&T ICS 4.04(final update) Atrix 2 won't pass beyond the M logo (have been flashed like ten times), I need someones help.
I can't downgrade to GB because would brick the phone forever or upgrade to a newer version. Or flash a custom ROM because the phone is not rooted and doesn't have any custom recovery tool installed.
So, I was thinking, maybe if I could flash an already rooted system and a custom recovery using RSDLite, could boot into the custom recovery, install a custom ROM and see if I can fix my phone.
Or maybe flash(RSDLite) a backup(or only the files need for this purpose) made by any user of the forum.
Is that possible? Please help.

It would be better to ask all the questions in one thread itself, rather than making new ones each time for a newer question.
RSDLite can't flash files which aren't signed by Motorola, hence no pre-rooted or custom recovery installed ROM can be flashed this way, since they won't have Motorola signatures.
Howdy y'all. I bricked my old G2 D800, I don't want a repeat with the new one. I tried doing all the research I could. I have a new D800, 10d, 4.4.2. I want CM11, tried reading the threads on that and custom recovery. I just need a little help to make sure I have the order of operations down pat before I crash another. I've rooted and flashed ROMs before, but not with th locked boot loader and security AT&T has.
Please just correct me if I'm wrong. Through the threads I have read I believe this is what I am to do.
1.) Flash my 4.4.2 back to 4.2.2 using LG FT
2.) Root using IO23
3.) Download Flashify & install TWRP 2.7.7 with Loki
4.) Follow steps to install CM 10.2
5.) Follow steps to install CM 11
Of course make backup once 4.2.2 plus root and TWRP is achieved before trying CM. I just want CM like I've had on previous phones. Thanks in advance.
All is good back to being ROM junkie. Anyone who does read and wishes to flash custom roms and get custom recovery on KK. Obtain root via IOroot25, then use AutoRec Recovery Installer for TWRP recovery.
I have Indian moto g 16 GB Android 4.4.4 I have a few questions
1. I just want to root it without any custom recovery or rom. Only to try apps which require root. I am not interested in custom roms, happy with stock rom. I found Modaco's method for it. But many users did not find it working. Is there any other SIMPLE AND STABLE method for it without messing up with stock rom and recovery?
2. If I successfully root it without custom recovery what will be steps to unroot it and revert it back to stock 4.4.4 so that I could receive future OTA. (i had rooted my HTC one x with custom recovery so I know about unlocking bootloader). Will this process include flashing stock rom as there is already stock rom in phone
3. Is is necessary to download stock firmware if someone decide to revert back from rooted phone to stock. I mean not everyone has fast Internet connection to download those big 400-500 mb . Zip files. I read somewhere that we can backup the entire rom after rooting. So why not flash that backed up rom for reverting process. Why need to download..and For backing up the stock rom do we need to root with custom recovery or the Modaco's method (stock recovery root) will work.
You may find my third question stupid but I am not much into this stuff.
Please answer my all questions whether it is yes or no. You need not to provide detailed descriptions but just clear my confusion. I couldn't find these type of questions anywhere else on Internet. So may be useful for other users too. Thanx

Hey...yes you can root it but doing so requires an unlocked bootloader(which wipes all data on the phone..so backup)
To revert root you'll need stock recovery(since you say you don't want a custom recovery, skip flashing the stock recovery) and untouched stock ROM...
you can either download a stock fresh stock ROM[recommended]
Or
You can revert all root changes you did to the ROM(Xposed, root, busybox, e.t.c.)
Cheers mate
thanx for replying..
Ok reverting will be enough? I thought stock rom is no more Pure after we root it either by stock recovery or custom recovery. And if i choose the reverting method, how much total apps will i have to delete/uninstall?

You'll will have to remove all root adjustments you made...if you can't remember them all, it's best to flash a new zip...but in my case it was only Xposed and root so I uninstalled Xposed within the app, then went to supersu to revert root.
Good luck

Thanx sir, Good Day
1. Try Paul O´Brien´s (that guy from Modaco) method. I rooted my Moto G with stock 4.4.4 like a month ago. No need to mess with the recovery, easy and simple.
2. There is an option in SuperSU that deletes all SU binaries from the phone. It is not needed to update though. You can update with SU installed, unless you modified any system files that the OTA wants to patch.
3. No, as mentioned in 2. Just unroot, uninstall xposed and you are done.

Thanks i'll try MoDaCo's method after getting android L OTA
I have an AT&T D800 and current software version is official 4.4.2 D80020y. I want to install official CM12.1 or preferably CM13, but i am extremely confused on where to start given that i havent done any modifications to my device before. I tried ioroot but it seems that my firmware version is not supported. Then i am not sure on the recovery part as well. which recovery is best for installing CM12/13? i read that some recovery causes the device to be soft bricked. If someone could give me a quick walk through on how to go about rooting and installing a recovery that supports all roms, it would be extremely helpful.
