What KitKat ROM? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm still running 4.1.2 vrbmf1 with the unlocked boot loader I want to update to a stock android ROM what one is recommended? I want one that's relatively stable not one of the nightly roms. Thanks.

You need to do your own research and decide for yourself. We are not here to do your homework. Read the OPs of the ROMs you are interested in. Pay attention to the bugs list and read the last 5 or so pages of the thread to see if any users are having issues. Remember XDA is not here to hold your hand. You are responsible for your device and so you must go do your own research.

Going to close this out before this goes into a "best ROM" thread.
If you want to know what ROMs to try, why not consider trying a few on your own and make a choice based on your own preference?
You will find you get a better understanding of what's out there as well.
Thanks!

Which process to start with in flashing?

Just wondering what you guys thought.
I am rooted on JB and VRBLK bootchain. I don't know a lot about the Aroma installer. Where can I find more info on that, and can I install any ROM with it?
Or where should I start? There is so much info, it's hard to find a good place to start installing ROMS on the Verizon S3.

For you info aroma installer isn't some special process it is AIO program that devs use. Some ROMS are installed via the installer so we can cherry pick the mods we want. Also common knowledge is to go to the Android development section and the original development section for ROMS as those are the only 2 places with ROMS.
I know where to find them in the development section. I just want more info before I start flashing away. And with all of the recent changes to Jelly Bean, I don't want to flash something incompatible.

Well since you do have a Verizon varient of the S3 phone all ROMS including the ported ones posted here are compatible that is common knowledge. There isn't a compatibility issue with these ROMS it is the "people can't follow directions when flashing" issue and some bugs on some ROMs. Also the devs provide info about what is in these ROMS. If the ROMs weren't compatible with Verizon S 3 phones then it wouldn't have been posted here at all. Those incampatible ROMS will be in a more suitable section of the site.

Well partner, look over that guide posted earlier. You can rest easy if you follow it because with the unlocked boot loader you can flash any if the ROMs for the Verizon s3. Just remember to back up you imei and read the op of any ROM you're thinking about because done like cm10.1 cause issues .

Thanks guys.
On the Vibrant, you could not flash a gingerbread rom if you were on froyo, and vise versa. Are you saying it's ok to flash an ICS rom if you're running JB?
2 more quick questions.
What's this flash counter I keep seeing people talking about? What does it do, and how do I keep it from causing problems?
And, do I have to unlock the bootloader each time I flash a Rom or is it always unlocked after I unlock it? Or is it different with each Rom?
I know these are noob questions, but I've flashed plenty...... just not on this phone. It seems like Verizon tried to complicate the process.

The flash counter keeps track of how many times you've flashed via download mode(Odin only). It becomes a problem when you return your phone. You only need to unlock your phone once to flash custom ROMs only when you flash back to stock will your phone will be locked again.
Make your first flash synergy and back up your imei so we don't have to tell you that you should have...

Sorry, that question can't be answered. One thing I've learned from my time here is that all phones are NOT the same, what works on my S3 may or may not work on yours.
You'll have to make your own tests, get started flashing various ROMs and good luck!

You have to understand that all of those ROMs have some problems since they are fairly new. All are still in the early stages of development.

I dont know if you are new or not so please dont think I mean to preach. But, when I am deciding what rom to use I read pages upon pages of the thread for that rom. I believe this is important so not only can I see what rom works like I want but, also prepares me for what to expect after flashing. Simply taking someones advice on which rom to flash will not always end with the best result.
That being said I am loving masta's cm10.1 unofficial.

I couldn't agree more.
Asking people for advice is probably bad because many stick with the first one they find work well.
Or they use what someone else says works best.
Roms work differently on everyone's phone so you must try for yourself.
Also people become very bias when they find a ROM they like.
Haha so it may not be the best for your needs.
Good luck and get flashing

Hello Everyone!
So I'm getting an S3 via fed-ex Friday. I'm coming from a Droid 3 and the messiah that's kept my phone some what interesting, Hashcode. I can't wait to delve into root/unlock/custom rec/custom rom.
On that note, id like anyones opinion on what custom rom they like and why and also recovery. Of course I've read a lot of the posts in both dev forums already but any additional tips or steps in to rooting and unlocking would be appreciated.(easiest/quickest method)
Thank you for those that take the time to read this and respond.

Well first thing you have to do is to root your phone, and unlock the bootloader. There's an app for unlocking the BL in the Play Store, I recommend using it (EZ-Unlock or something like that). Then flash recovery. You can use CWM or TWRP. The easiest way is to flash through goo manager (goo.im in the play store). This flashes TWRP. Or you can use another app in the play store called EZ-Recovery for SGSIII.
For ROMs, if you want touchwiz-based ROMs, the best are Synergy and CleanROM IMO. Synergy is a huge team and they provide constant support. CleanROM is not updated very often but it is very fast and stable. There are other ROMs such as GalaxyMod and Jelly 'Beans'.
For AOSP, you can always go to CM10.1, AOKP. PA. I like CarbonROM, it has nice features and stable.
In the end, ROMs are a matter of preference, and what works well on my device may not on yours.
Follow the wonderful guides for rooting/unlocking then try out a few touchwiz and aosp based roms to find what you like best. For touchwiz definitely try out Beans 11 or Synergy. For AOSP definitely try out the unofficial builds of CM10.1 or Carbon(my daily driver). Honestly, there's so much development for the S3 that you'll never get bored. If you want to really get some amazing battery life, try out some kernels like KToonz. You can look under general for a great guide on tweaks, etc. Use TWRP for your recovery. Last of all, have fun and welcome to the S3!

Really liking the latest Synergy for a stock ROM replacement. Stable, fast, good battery life.
For 4.2+ I enjoyed what Carbon had to offer
Check the tutorials for how to root/unlock. Pretty simple ways listed there. Check on how to backup your IME though, just in case.
Back up your imei. It will save you a ton of headache if you ever lose it.

If you boot up and you're still on ICS, root it there. Its super easy. Easier than jelly bean. Also, TWRP recovery, and AOKP build 4 with the latest leankernel is running super smooth for me.

The latest synergy rom is awesome. It will backup your IMEI for you each time you flash too. Lot's of options. Not sure if EZ unlock still works...theres another tut in development on how to unlock with odin

Help choosing a rom?

Finally decided to try a custom rom, I'm tired of waiting for verizon to update the S3 to Premium Suite Upgrade.
Is there any roms out there that are stable and have the multi window function, I'm not looking for anything fancy just simple but that includes all the features that were left iut with the 4.1.2 update.
If youccould point me to the right direction I'd appreciate it
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
please do some research and read. there are probably more than 5 of the roms that meet your criteria in the development section.
you need to try roms and read and see what meets your needs. there are guides and similar threads all over this forum.
there are some small features in some that arent available in others that will make people want certain roms.
put a little effort in, itll serve you well. its obvious youve put in 0% effort.
I was just hoping for some examples from users who have had experience.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
the threads of teh roms are filled with experiences, opinions and impressions. what more do you really want?
I mean, the titles of the roms and original posts have all the information youd really ever need.
we see these threads daily and they get closed. theres a wealth of info here. dig in.
5-7 posts down from this.....theres a 30 page thread dedicated to limiting posts like this.

OK I will suggest the 3 best ROMs IMO to you; Synergy, MOAR & Hyperdrive. They all have the multi window and are fast with many mods.

I wont respond with a jerk answer. Bro try synergy rom, hyperdrive rom, or beanstown rom. Im personally drawn to using any rom by deviant. Sons of android, deviant one, there's a couple. Not to mention the support in the threads are great. I recently tried synergy. Great rom, and great support aswell. Synergy is very very stable. Just make sure u read the o.p. prior to flashing anything. Don't forget to unlock your bootloader.

Not hard at all now was it.
That is because your question is asked and answered hundreds of times a week. It gets very repetaive.
Doing a google search for "4.1.2 root sch-i535" will give you plenty of results. Dont limit yourself to xda, check youtube and other sites as well. I spent a month on and off reserching methods and reading user errors before I rooted, unlocked and flashed. That is excessive but I wanted to minimize and fix any errors thst might come my way.

[Q] Any stable 4.3 ROMs around?

Just unlocked my bootloader, and was wondering for the One S what the most stable 4.3 ROM is? If there's not a stable one yet, I'll just go to 4.2.2.
I want to start with something at the easier end of the flashing spectrum and then work my way up. I'm staying S-On by the way.
Cheers!
The best way to know what ROMs are the most stable is by flashing them and testing them for yourself.
Just be sure to read everything as you're going along so that you don't mess anything up.
As this is essentially a best ROM thread, it's against our rules.
Thread closed.
