[TRICK] Use Tata Sky Everywhere TV on any device, any android version - General Topics

As many Indian Tata Sky users might know, Tata Sky's Everywhere TV is supported on only a few devices on specific Android versions only.
Also, it doesnt work on rooted devices.
So, here is a small tutorial to get it working on "ANY" device on "ANY" android version (root needed)
First off, to prevent it from detecting root, we need Rootcloak and Xposed.
This step is self explanatory, just add the Tata Sky mobile app in Rootclock.
Secondly, to remove device check
Open Tata Sky app and minimize it
Using a root explorer, go to /data/data/com.ryzmedia.tatasky/Shared_prefs
Open com.ryzmedia.tatasky.xml
Find these 2 lines
<boolean name="FIRST_TIME_FLAG" value="true">
<boolean name="ETV_SUPPORT_FLAG" value="false">
Change them to
<boolean name="FIRST_TIME_FLAG" value="false">
<boolean name="ETV_SUPPORT_FLAG" value="true">
Now, save the file, switch to Tata Sky app, and click the Everywhere TV icon.
If you close the app, you must redo the 2nd step.
Voila, everything works, Screw you Tata Sky, I aint abiding by your rules. :silly: :laugh:
This is NOT a permanent solution though.

Doesnt work that way. You need to register the mobile and pay the money.
Also this method is a hassle if you want to use everyday. This is more like a proof of concept

[MOD] Multiwindow Apps

I've been able to mod some apps to work in multiwindow mode.
How to install:
Backup your data from the app using titanium backup
Uninstall the app
Install the modded app
Restore your app data using titanium backup
Please Note:
I'm not a dev, I only added some lines to androidmanifest.xml
These apps may not be optimized for multiscreen mode, I've just enabled it.
This is just a temporarily solution.
This only works on Jelly Bean Roms.
You can't update modifed Apps with Playstore.
Modded apps:
4PDA
Andchat
AndIRC
AT&T Wireless
Chrome
Cyman Mark 2
Dolphin for Pad
Dropbox
Ebay
Evernote
ES File Explorer
Facebook
Facebook Messenger
File Manager HD
Google Currents
Google Translate
Google Play Music

Hill Climb Racing
Total Connect Comfort
MX Player

As I can't update this post, everytime someone post a new modifed app, use this link to have an overview of all attached apps of this thread. Unfortunately, direct links to filehosters are not included
Or look at this thread created by TheSanitarium
Apps that didn't work:
Chrome (Error while recompiling with apk-multi-tools, even without changes, maybe someone else can edit this one)
Maps (same as above)
Play (same as above)
[*]Youtube (same as above)
How to modify Apps by yourself:
Decompile the app with apk-multi-tools
Open Androidmanifest.xml with Editor, Notepad++ or something else
Search for this
Code:
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />

Recompile app
can you teach us how to do this?
This is cool to get multiwindow apps working. One problem is when you decompile the APK and compile it back up, you will be signing APK with a different key than developers. This means you cannot update from Play Store because the keys will not match. You will have to remove modded APK, install update, then mod updated APK. If you are ok with having older version of APK then there isnt an issue.
why i get error while decompile some apk ? facebook apk is error too
I've try this mod in ICS 4.0.4 and didn´t work.
Waiting for Jelly Bean... xD

Will there still be an update notifier in the playstore, or do we lose that, aswell as the ability to update?
Can someone reload the modified facebook apk to another site, maybe Gdrive or dropbox?

Facebook is now uploaded as an attachment, too. Just use Winrar or 7zip to unpack.
It's good to see at least some of the apps can be modded to support multi window. This is a big step of note 10.1. I have successfully modded IMO.
Is there a way I could change the default size of the pop up window? I have tried to change the four numbers for portrait apps but still the pop up is in landscape. Not convenient enough to adjust it every time.

If you uninstall app and install modded apk, play should not show the app as installed. Play checks the key on the apk with what the developers placed on the market. If there is a mismatch, then play will think its a different app.
great work!!!!!!!!
thank u very much
BUT... in some apk it was fantastic to zoom in/out!!!
IS IT POSSIBILE??????

It's not only that... I played with this mod since friday and there are apps, that don't work properly after you decompile and compile them!
For e.g ezPDF f.c. after opening a PDF. The reason is not this little modification but apk-tools itself, that have some problems with signed NON-system apps. Anyway GApps should be safe because you can find a bunch of "Inverted GApps"-Packs.
Could someone else try it with ezPDF?
It should be possible to write a deamon, that registeres preselected non-multiwindow apps as multiwindow apps. But unfortunately I'm not a Dev (for now ).
I've been playing around with this mod since today and I managed to get some apps too work! ! I also tried with a game "Hill Climb Racing" and it's been working like a charm!

[solved] run all incompatible games / apps

Hi there
I have seen many posts where people are having trouble installing games from Google play. Xperia is a beast in terms of performance and it can run any game smoothly, thanks to its Adreno 305.
Here is the solution for those who are ready to make all applications COMPATIBLE with your device.
You will need :
ROOT
ES FILE EXPLORER
COMMON SENSE
You may use build.prop Editor from Google play but it didnot help me much so I changed it manually using File Explorer.
Instructions:
After giving root rights to your Explorer, go to device/system/build.prop
Open it using ES Note Editor (Comes with ES file Explorer).
Find ro.product.device
Change ro.product.device from C2105/4 to C6603. Save your file
Go to settings\all and open Google Play.
Clear google play cache .
Restart your phone!
You may change your ro.device.product by build.prop editor but it didnot help much in my case!
DO NOT CHANGE OR ADD EVEN A COMMA IN YOUR BUILD.PROP except as mentioned or you will be bootlooped
Good Luck! Just backup your data to be safe!
You may simply replace your build.prop with the one I have attached. I have c2105 with 4.2.2.
Attached file is in zip so please extract it first and then replace it !
Do everything on your own risk!
I can now install all Gameloft games
"Xperia L" works too.

Cheers for your contribution mate. May I add that, your device name isnot changed in settings at all even when you change it to C6603.
I did the usual process that is done when your phone isnot compatible with certain applications. Change your device name to the latest device in range.
However, after your post, I am to believe that Xperia L is supported by developers as 'Xperia L' , 'C2104' but not C2105. There are also differences due to regional firmware as Indian firmware users have reported apps to be incompatible while many blokes from America have quoted that all applications are COMPATIBLE without any changes to their build.prop which other users had problems with. What strange is both have same model name 'c2104'. Till now it is still not certain what is causing incompatibly issues.
I guess there is some diversion and I am sure there are always many ways to do a certain job!

Maybe it's come from ro.product.device=
How you see I change it to taoshan. Will revert the ro.product.name to stock and report back.
Edit1- Revert to ro.product.name= C2105_1272-2770 and still work.
So its work with only changing the ro.product.device=taoshan.
If I'm not wrong there is no matter of the name if the ro.product.device is the real codename(taoshan).
Can someone test this too?
Edit 2- Found that:
ro.semc.product.name=Xperia L
ro.semc.product.device=C2105
Seems that Sony write it correct but play store read the values from ro.product.* ( without "semc")

[Fix] NA1/NA5_Work around to enable installation of non-market apps and disable googl

Hello Users/Readers:
I'm just your average Falsh-o-holic, who combs through all of the S4 threads to find what's been accomplished/useful information. I have not come across this work around, so I decided to post this info users of the NA1/NA5 Roms who cannot access the Security, settings option.
Disclaimer:
Use this info at your own risk. I am not responsible if this breaks your device.
I am posting this info using my XDA app. I also did this without the need of a PC. Please do not ask for links. Everything I used can be found on this web site, play store or google, except for the kernel. I'll try to be specific. Feel free to add links if you want to help other Users.
My Phone/ROM info:
Confimed working on an US AT&T SGH-I337 S4. I believe this will work on all S4 models. I currently am running Echo Rom v14 (NA5), with old bootloader and wifi working kernel (had to flash the loki doki.zip as well, which can be found all over the AT&T S4 thread).
Links of this kernel have sadly been removed.
I also use the AT&T MK2 modem - I intitially got 4G speed/icon.
I had to preform a few adjustments to the build prop and created a new PTA apn to achieve a stronger LTE connection.
I flahed the Att CSC fix zip (Can be found on the Virgin Rom thread in the OP.) as well.
Tools needed for this permission edit:
SQLite Editor or similar app.
I used SQLite Editor v2.0.1
Solution:
1) Using SQLite editor (in the apps menu) I scrolled down to the Settings Storage app and selected it/pressed it.
2) On the next screen I selected/pressed on the settings.db option.
3) Find the line that reads - install_non_market apps (line 19 for me) and press on it/select it. Then select the edit option (pencil icon top of the screen).
4) Change the value from 0 to 1 and save.
5) In the same menu, navigate to the line that reads - package_verifier_enable (line 86 for me) and change the value from 1 to 0 and save.
Last - Reboot your device and enjoy installing apks from your external/internal storage cards, xposed app, etc., without access to the Security settings option.
Please do not make any other changes because you can possibly harm your device.
These 2 simple edits will stop the current FC's we experience when trying to install and app without using the play store and disable the annoying pop-up thak asks if you want google to check for harmful blah, blah, blah. Will work even if you've pressed OK already, which I did my mistake.
Again feel free to post links to assist other Users. I Hope this helps everyone with old (4.3) bootloaders who cannot access these setting.

I would love to but do not have the proper hardware to do so. I have laptop running with an AMD64 processor, but it came installed with Vista,32 bit. I also have a desktop with Windows 8,32 bit. From what I've read a PC running a 64 bit OS is necessary. Let me know if there is some I can do with my equipment. I've never tried to build because of this but would do so if I could.

You wouldnt even have to build it my friend
You grab the build one (i.e. v14) and you make it so that Americans (which i have soooo many friends i want them to be happy) can use it
Thats all
No need to cook it from scratch! You will be grabbing the latest Echoe everytime
No pressure my friend at all!!
I thought it would be awesome way especially for Americans to be on the 4.4.2
And there is no way i could do it and fully support another thread....
No hurry!! We can talk any details you want my man!!
I was impressed about your discovery here!! I love to see this kind of thinking!! Thats what got me to discover the"wifi trick" for the 4.3... Thinking completely paradoxically and "outside of the box"

Great find. I had already changed build prop to att and did a dirty flash to get most of my app installed but this will allow those that didn't to work. It makes the Echoe a truly workable Rom for ATT users and a DD candidate. I agree with Friedrich420 this is what the forums are about,
Edit: Tried this and still have a problem with downloading some apps. Get a pop up "can't store internal storage or sd card"
Hmm. Just tried "sqlite editor pro free" and when I got to settings.db to open it, it gives me "an error occurred while opening the database". Rebooted to make sure everything was settled, but still no luck. Went to buy the $2.99 version of sqlite editor, but it couldn't install onto either my sd card or internal memory. Might be the rom, but this leads to the whole point of needing the work around. Maybe a lost cause.

I had fc too. But that's because it needs root access the request didn't appear straight away. After restarted su request finally popped up then it worked.

In build.pro change false for true in the line: "ro.securestorage.support=false" and in the platform.xml in system/etc/permisions look for:
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_r" />
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
and add:
<group gid="media_rw" />

Great work! Eagerly awaiting a zip to flash that will allow Echoe to work flawlessly on I337. GE works great but currently has no real competition and for some reason the Galaxy Gear weather will not work with it so looking to get Echoe working.

Just thinking this could be posted in AT&T like GE rom where you have a zip that changes the 4g icon, build prop and security setting in 1 zip to make it AT&T. What WIFI issues? do they exist on MLD bb?

Out of "thanks" but THANKS! :good:
AWSOME!!!
Thanks!
Can anyone explain "Native" Tether" a little more? Does this use an app? Does it use the quick toggle feature? Thanks!
Does this do anything differently than using android-wifi-tether? I have used that for years.
I don't want to get caught tethering without paying, can Verizon see the difference?
Native just means you can use the hotspot app that comes with the phone out of the box. No need for installing an app like WiFi tether or foxfi. Load the zip from cwm and open the Verizon hotspot app, enjoy.

Does anyone know where I can find the password to the tethering? I can't seem to find an option to change the password or so.
Edit. I disabled the mobile tethering. Re enable and everything works

Is there any chance this causes extra flags at big red? Using their tether app as opposed to a third party app possibly setting off flags that tether is running without an added plan as opposed to 'this person has an app using a lot of extra data, oh well'?

Native tethering is built into android aosp. Vzw or most US carriers add an overlay to have the native tether check with a off site server to see if you are "allowed"to tether. What this mod, and most mods do, is removed the overlay so that no additional provisions are checked before tethering us allowed.
That said the standard disclaimer that goes with ALL mods of this type is :
Any carrier "could" detect tethering bla bla bla.

How To Activate Whatsapp Voice Calling Feature

The latest WhatsApp feature is generating a lot of duplicate threads on XDA, drowning other threads in the process. Many are also posted in the wrong section. We're closing down all invite threads to keep the clutter down to a minimum. Instead, please use The Consolidated WhatsApp Calling Thread as a consolidated thread for all discussions related to the WhatsApp calling feature and invites. Thank you!
Method 1:
Follow this steps to activate Whatsapp voice calling feature on any Android device.
Download latest Whatsapp app from here.
Uninstall older version and reinstall downloaded whatsapp.
Say your friend who get Whatsapp calling feture invitation and you're done!
Method 2:
You can also try this method.
After installing whatsapp, Open Root Explorer or Es file Explorer and Go to Data > Data > com.whatsapp > shared_prefs > com.whatsapp_preferences.xml
Edit the above file and Add these two lines after <map> -
<boolean name="call" value="true" />
<string name="call_allowed">all</string>
Now save the file and Go to Settings > Apps and Force Stop WhatsApp .

After making the changes and restarting Whatsapp after force stop, the xml automatically replaces itself with the original one.
I mean my changes (adding those 2 lines) are lost everytime..
