Out of "thanks" but THANKS! :good:

AWSOME!!!
Thanks!

Can anyone explain "Native" Tether" a little more? Does this use an app? Does it use the quick toggle feature? Thanks!

Does this do anything differently than using android-wifi-tether? I have used that for years.
I don't want to get caught tethering without paying, can Verizon see the difference?

Native just means you can use the hotspot app that comes with the phone out of the box. No need for installing an app like WiFi tether or foxfi. Load the zip from cwm and open the Verizon hotspot app, enjoy.

Does anyone know where I can find the password to the tethering? I can't seem to find an option to change the password or so.
Edit. I disabled the mobile tethering. Re enable and everything works

Is there any chance this causes extra flags at big red? Using their tether app as opposed to a third party app possibly setting off flags that tether is running without an added plan as opposed to 'this person has an app using a lot of extra data, oh well'?

Native tethering is built into android aosp. Vzw or most US carriers add an overlay to have the native tether check with a off site server to see if you are "allowed"to tether. What this mod, and most mods do, is removed the overlay so that no additional provisions are checked before tethering us allowed.
That said the standard disclaimer that goes with ALL mods of this type is :
Any carrier "could" detect tethering bla bla bla.

Works like a charm! Thanks man.. my in-dash Nexus 7 is alot more awesome with an active wifi connection from the phone. Glad to have this back

[APP]carrier name

This is an app that changes what carrier name is diplayed in for example the lock screen and the status bar. It requires root because it modifies system files, and because it uses root it's potentially dangerous. Use it at your own risk, I'm not responsible if your device explodes in your face!
I had much trouble figuring out how to do this so I wanted to spare others the trouble by making this app. Please send me bug reports so I can fix any bugs you find.
Update1: Don't use any special characters because it will be used in an xml file so for example a double quote sign will break the file.
Update2: This will probably not work on the evo with stock rom and will not work with any rom that only shows what network you're connected to. This app only changes the carrier name wich is taken from your sim card. There are some roms that allows you to change this for example Cyanogenmod 6 where you can change so that it shows your spn.
Update3: I'm currently working on making this app work on all android devices by patching framework-res.apk
This app is also availble on the android market for $0.99, please consider buying the app it would make my face go

not working on Dell Streak DJ_Steve's ROM v1.5.2 froyo,
tried puttin in my name with and without brackets and rebooting, didnt work.
I would really like to do this to totally debrand my device.
I really like like the concept of this app especially since the ways available to do this on the Evo are somewhat extensive.
Unfortunatley, this first version is not working on my Evo. I'm running a stock rooted deodexed rom. I will keep following this thread.
P.S. I also tried putting in my name with and without brackets and nothing worked. Also pressing the reboot button in the corner didn't work.

The text in your status bar is the network you're currently connected to and the text in the app is your carrier name that is taken from your sim card. If you have cyanogenmod you can change if spn or plmn will be displayed, usually it will be son but otherwise I can help you sorry.

That probably means your status bar isn't showing the spn, what the app modifies. If you have a rom that allows you to change it to spn it would work if you can't, you'll just have to wait for an update.
yeah custom ROM, probably.
Thanks anyway I'll keep trying.

I mean opposite, it probably isn't that hard and you can have it now if you do it yourself. Or ask for clues on how to do it instead of expecting someone else to do it for you.
I googled that problem for a week and no answer resolve it.

Friday night I found out how to manually do it but java was being a pain in the butt and I wanted to test it before telling you how also so I could have the file to upload to you. Just so you know the file you needed to edit was the framework-res.apk not the .jar. the xml that needed to be edited was located at framework-res.apk\res\values\arrays.xml
Decompiled it just fine but on the compile after I was done editing java was being stupid and the compile failed. Hope this information can help you in the future.

I haven't tried it on 4.3 (have been putting off upgrading because of too many cons for the pros...) - but it bypasses all that verification stuff - still using the built-in tether.

Or edit the framework-res.apk yourself. I am glad I know how now because I will never need to wait for someone else to do it. well the only reason Iwould is if foxfi breaks in a update.

Where did you learn how to edit the framework-res.apk? I would rather know how to do it myself but my java skills are rudimentary at best (though I am a quick learner!!). What did you use to do the editing?
Thanks!
I downloaded a note 2 recovery zip of the modified apk. I then spent about ten minutes googling where the tether subscription checker was located then compared my apk to the note 2 apk. A lot of trial and error if you would like to see it old and slow has a edited recovery zip for the 4.3 tether (came out a day after I was looking for it so that's why I didn't choose that one). Just decompile both apk and look in framework-res.apk\res\values\arrays.xml. what I did when comparing it to the note 2 was open both of the XML in notepad++ and compare lines. I am confident I can now mod it without examples if it ever happens again. Finding a decompiler is the easy part there are a lot of free ones out there just Google it and as long as you can recognize every character in the XML (no odd symbols) it decompiled correctly. I could not find a guid on how to do this but I probably learned more from my errors than I would have learned from a step by step. Hope that helps and sorry if that made no sense typed it in a rush.

Oh and if you dig around in the apk long enough you might notice how easy (but time consuming) it would be to make your own custom modifications and themes for your own rom. I like doing it this way over xposed because no matter what I do xposed is super buggy for me.

[Fix] NA1/NA5_Work around to enable installation of non-market apps and disable googl

Hello Users/Readers:
I'm just your average Falsh-o-holic, who combs through all of the S4 threads to find what's been accomplished/useful information. I have not come across this work around, so I decided to post this info users of the NA1/NA5 Roms who cannot access the Security, settings option.
Disclaimer:
Use this info at your own risk. I am not responsible if this breaks your device.
I am posting this info using my XDA app. I also did this without the need of a PC. Please do not ask for links. Everything I used can be found on this web site, play store or google, except for the kernel. I'll try to be specific. Feel free to add links if you want to help other Users.
My Phone/ROM info:
Confimed working on an US AT&T SGH-I337 S4. I believe this will work on all S4 models. I currently am running Echo Rom v14 (NA5), with old bootloader and wifi working kernel (had to flash the loki doki.zip as well, which can be found all over the AT&T S4 thread).
Links of this kernel have sadly been removed.
I also use the AT&T MK2 modem - I intitially got 4G speed/icon.
I had to preform a few adjustments to the build prop and created a new PTA apn to achieve a stronger LTE connection.
I flahed the Att CSC fix zip (Can be found on the Virgin Rom thread in the OP.) as well.
Tools needed for this permission edit:
SQLite Editor or similar app.
I used SQLite Editor v2.0.1
Solution:
1) Using SQLite editor (in the apps menu) I scrolled down to the Settings Storage app and selected it/pressed it.
2) On the next screen I selected/pressed on the settings.db option.
3) Find the line that reads - install_non_market apps (line 19 for me) and press on it/select it. Then select the edit option (pencil icon top of the screen).
4) Change the value from 0 to 1 and save.
5) In the same menu, navigate to the line that reads - package_verifier_enable (line 86 for me) and change the value from 1 to 0 and save.
Last - Reboot your device and enjoy installing apks from your external/internal storage cards, xposed app, etc., without access to the Security settings option.
Please do not make any other changes because you can possibly harm your device.
These 2 simple edits will stop the current FC's we experience when trying to install and app without using the play store and disable the annoying pop-up thak asks if you want google to check for harmful blah, blah, blah. Will work even if you've pressed OK already, which I did my mistake.
Again feel free to post links to assist other Users. I Hope this helps everyone with old (4.3) bootloaders who cannot access these setting.

I would love to but do not have the proper hardware to do so. I have laptop running with an AMD64 processor, but it came installed with Vista,32 bit. I also have a desktop with Windows 8,32 bit. From what I've read a PC running a 64 bit OS is necessary. Let me know if there is some I can do with my equipment. I've never tried to build because of this but would do so if I could.

No need to cook it from scratch! You will be grabbing the latest Echoe everytime
No pressure my friend at all!!

And there is no way i could do it and fully support another thread....

Great find. I had already changed build prop to att and did a dirty flash to get most of my app installed but this will allow those that didn't to work. It makes the Echoe a truly workable Rom for ATT users and a DD candidate. I agree with Friedrich420 this is what the forums are about,
Edit: Tried this and still have a problem with downloading some apps. Get a pop up "can't store internal storage or sd card"
Hmm. Just tried "sqlite editor pro free" and when I got to settings.db to open it, it gives me "an error occurred while opening the database". Rebooted to make sure everything was settled, but still no luck. Went to buy the $2.99 version of sqlite editor, but it couldn't install onto either my sd card or internal memory. Might be the rom, but this leads to the whole point of needing the work around. Maybe a lost cause.

I had fc too. But that's because it needs root access the request didn't appear straight away. After restarted su request finally popped up then it worked.

In build.pro change false for true in the line: "ro.securestorage.support=false" and in the platform.xml in system/etc/permisions look for:
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_r" />
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
and add:
<group gid="media_rw" />

Great work! Eagerly awaiting a zip to flash that will allow Echoe to work flawlessly on I337. GE works great but currently has no real competition and for some reason the Galaxy Gear weather will not work with it so looking to get Echoe working.

Just thinking this could be posted in AT&T like GE rom where you have a zip that changes the 4g icon, build prop and security setting in 1 zip to make it AT&T. What WIFI issues? do they exist on MLD bb?

Wifi Hotspot

Does anyone know how to activate wifi Hotspot? I mean without paying sprint big money for a small amount of data usage. I purchased unlimited data for just this purpose.

You need root if you wish to do that. Once you have that there are apps that can do it easily for you!

I'd wait for the hot spot flash file so you can use the native hotspot app built in like the s4

I just used the default settings. I tried to change the password but that was an instant fail. It asks for root permission from super su and starts. If its on n u reboot the phone you must turn the app off then on again.

You also have to edit your SQL. Everything is explained and easy.

"and have the Xposed framework installed"
Sorry, I'm not familiar with Xposed framework.
Xposed framework is cited as Must Have.
Does the Sprint GS5 have Xposed framework installed?
thanx in advance...
No. Xposed framework is an add on for root users. It let's you install other mods. To get xposed framework, download the xposed installer from here:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Then install the apk, open it and install xposed. It will tell you to reboot. Once you reboot, open it and go to downloads. Search for tether and you'll see the tether app. Also try out Gravity Box, Wanam xposed, they are modules, basically let's you change everything about your phone.

OK, so I followed those steps and it look s like its gonna work but then after a minute I get the notification that I am "Not subscribed to the hotspot service..."
I opened the SQL file and the value of tether_dun_required is back to 1. I tried changing it to zero, rebooting, and trying again but it doesn't work. Something keeps changing the SQL value back to 1.
Any other ideas? Does someone actually have it working this way using the native HotSpot in settings?
I don't have an Android phone any longer, switched to a Windows 8 phone just for a change of pace.
Don't know if Sprint (or Samsung) changed anything as far as the HotSpot goes on the S5.
I do know that it's much easier to do the mod on a DEodexed rom. On an odexed rom, you must first deodex the services.jar and services.odex, do the mod and then reodex the file. The method I used for reodexing required having an actual phone.
For deodexing the rom, I used Dxisda's kitchen which only runs on Linux. Unfortunately, I removed my Linux setup to recover the partition space on my hard drive. It's a chore to get that set back up, and don't plan on doing it. I'm sure someone will get a deodexed stock rom out there fairly soon, they always have in the past.
I am kind of curious if the hotspot mod will still work though and I DO still have the tools installed to deodex the services jar. If someone will send me the services.jar and services.odex from there phone, I'll take a look.
Unfortunately, what you will end up with is a deodexed services.jar that won't work unless you have a deodexed rom to run it on.

Unrestricted Tethering N920T

All credit for this mod goes to Fenny in the S6 forums for T-Mobile. The original thread can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6/development/mod-enable-native-tether-t3078551
I have tested this on my own Note 5 and have streamed quite a few videos, at least ~4gb worth on a tethered device. This mod will make it so your data comes out of your normal data, not the tethering plan data.
Fenny said:
As always I'm here to insist that data is data, here is a tethering mod for the Tmobile S6.
About:*
What this does:*It bypasses the provisioning check, switches your apn to ipv4, (required for tethering) and changes your tethering APN to the normal data APN.
What it does not do:*It will not hide your browser headers from t-mobile, if they detect that you are using a desktop browser, you will see it deduct from your tethering balance. Use a User Agent Spoofer to work around this.
Click to collapse
Prerequisites:*
You should have a computer with adb, and your phone should be rooted and have busybox installed.
Click to collapse
Installation instructions:
Manual via adb:
Download the attached apk, and open a command prompt in the location you have saved it to.
Click to collapse
Installing the new Tethering Provision apk:
Code:
adb push TetheringProvision.apk /sdcard/
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/TetheringProvision.apk /system/app/TetheringProvision/
chmod 644 /system/app/TetheringProvision/TetheringProvision.apk
(The following command only needs to be run if you are on a stock odexed rom.)
Code:
rm -R /system/app/TetheringProvision/arm64
After installation you MUST reboot for the new tethering provision apk to be seen.
Setting proper APN settings, (you will need busybox for this part):
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
sed -i 's/pcweb.tmobile/fast.t-mobile/' /system/csc/customer.xml
sed -i 's/ipv6/ipv4/' /system/csc/customer.xml
Once you have configured the above, you MUST reset apn settings (Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > More > Reset to default )
Click to collapse
Again, I take no credit other than testing to make sure this worked with the note. For convenience, I'm attaching the modified tethering app as well that Fenny posted.
Flash this in recovery, reset apn, make sure both change to ip4. Enjoy unlimited tethering.
I can confirm this counts up data not tethering.
Breaks Volte and WiFi Calling.
If you want those back switch to ip6 by editing last lines in customer.xml file in system/csc

The zip is the easier option and will open up the same options as pushing the apk. It will break two features though. Haven't seen a way to fix them yet besides editing the xml file and going back in when you want tether again. I'm sure a custom rom will fix this problem.

awesome guys. i'm about to cut my internet and will use this as my main internet
wifi calling i can live without but VoLTE is kinda a must
Any way to make the device/network see tethering data (or even the device's own data usage) as music streaming (since that is unlimited with some plans)? For example, I have the 3 GB/month data plan, but it includes unlimited music streaming data (Play Music, Spotify, Rdio, etc music apps).

This will also exclude you from using the 700mghz LTE band 12 radio. Why? Because T-Mobile requires e911 and VoLTE to run on band 12. This mod strips those protocols. I would advise not flashing this if you want exceptionally awesome radio strength and you live in a band 12 spectrum area. You have been warned.
I do want to say thanks to the OP for Sharing. This certainly gives everyone more options
