Not sure if srs
Oneplus releases aosp ROM. Users ask for a port of aosp ROM?
Why not just use an aosp ROM we already have?

Is there something available in the CM11 builds for the G2 that's not available in the CM11 builds for hammerhead?
Na they're both poo compared to aosp

CM11 is CM11. Only difference is the device tree (drivers etc).. All functions are identical. As with most large development teams, they have one master branch with all teh core features then just device trees for each device to make the ROM work.
CM11s is slightly different though as it is only for the OnePlus and has some unique features. Porting a pre-built ROM is always more problematic than compiling one from code though
I asked the question but I already knew the answer.

Ah ok.
CM11 for G2 is the same as CM11 for N5
CM11s port for G2 (From OnePlus) is different to CM11 for N5

Hi there people,
I'm thinking of trying SlimRom and I was just wondering many roms say "AOSP" and actually are CM based(which is AOSP afaik), is the SlimRom cm based or AOSP in it's pure form?
I'd like to try some AOSP roms(not based on CM)
P.S. If you know other roms with reduced size feel free to share

SlimRom kernel is CM based. But it has to look and feel of AOSP. The only OPO ROM that I'm aware of that does not use a CM based kernel is Omni.

Rom talking, almost all AOSP roms use CM code... which doesn't mean they are entirely CM based. Afaik, Slim and AOSPA (and other projects) take many things from CM source but they keep their own line of developement, and in some aspects they diverge a lot. But in all cases, they use (as you stated) CM kernel base. Omni is the only one that's truly independent from cyanogen (rom & kernel), I think. Plus, you now got our manufacturer working on a pure AOSP rom, but I'm unsure if cyanogen did that or Oppo.

You're gonna have to be patient then. Or just try Slim, it may use the CM kernel but you're not going to notice that at all because kernel operations take place on a lower level behind the scenes.

I'll try SlimLP but when it's ready, right now I see only unofficial nightlies..
When I had DHD I was willing to try every possible combo in order to get just a little bit better performance but since now this isn't the issue I prefer something stable, even 44S I'm on isn't stable enough for me.

You are referring about AOSP by OnePlus ..man still at alpha stage WAY too buggy for my taste, maybe when it's stable I'll try it.
Although here on xda some created patches and bugfixes but still I'm looking for rock-solid stability, I have speed(compared to my old and previous DHD) so I'm not seeking on testing 10 roms per week as I did in the past

Too bad vanilla android isn't around for every phone(nexus style roms), just bare bone android with proper drivers in it - that would be fast ...and slim
P.S. I'll try slimlp when it's out I guess(officially), thank you guys for all ur answers - Fact, it might take a while..I expect 1+1 to deliver rom sometime in late feb(or early feb with bugs ..depends) after that in March or May I should expect SlimLP ..don't take my word I'm wild guessing

I thought Robbie's was official, guess I was wrong. Like I said though, it really doesn't make a lick of difference, it's still built from Slim source, the One and only difference is that it's missing the official tag in the title, that's it. People all too often mistake that tag to actually mean something, it doesn't.

1+1 has already many bugs in it's latest 44S I really don't want anymore even if it's a glitched icon, a minor issue or something that most people don't care about. I see "official" as a "we've test it more than just flash it and leave it for a couple of days"
I mean you know 1+1 has issue when 3rd party camera app is installed and you try to use flash on low light enviroment right? it's probably a driver issue although FV-5 app fix this(workaround), stock camera doesn't have that bug. So in SlimLP if I use the camera does this occur in a 3rd party camera app? ..this should be solved when CM12s hits the market, dunno if it's fixed in the not so official SlimLP
I guess I better back up and try it.. what I have to lose except some time? (I did flash with my previous DHD even 5-6 times per day)

Official definitely doesn't mean that. Take CM for example, it's done by a buildbot, no testing at all, and that's completely official. I'd take Robbie's builds over an official release any day of the week. That's what I'm saying, the perception that official is better is completely false.

CM is the worst example as even cm official builds are buggy sometimes(no proper testing and I'm talking about stable released not nightlies, the guy who build the cm camera app in the past had a long post mention it - nice guy)
I did an EFS backup, did a nandroid backup and doing currently mybackup backup(I use this for apps/contacts since android 2.3.6)
Hello. I bricked my LG G3 d850 by doing some crazy stuff and I haven't really backed up anything then. I got a new phone now so that's good. I am on 5.0.1 stock, and made a nandroid backup using TWRP.
What is the best custom rom for my phone? I realized that cm13 is not available for AT&T ;-; (I cried a little). I had bad experience with nightly builds on previous samsung phone, and do not want to use any unstable ROMs. I would like a fast, elegant rom that is very stable.. Tell me the ROMs you have used, and your suggestions! Thanks!
edit: I read about the Ressurection Remix 6.0.1 ROM, should I go with this?

I'm running candysix on mine. Seems pretty stable. Has some SD card bug. I Dont have an sdcard on mine, so can't confirm
There's no such thing as the "best" ROM. Nor is there a such thing as "the most stable". That's why everyone uses different ROMs. I may like something in a ROM that you don't or you may find it useless. A ROM may have something that I find necessary but you may find it useless. Everyone uses their phones differently, which causes different stability of the ROM. That's why there's no such thing as "the most stable ROM".
I run fulmics 2.5 on mine the new 2.7 updTe has slow chargeing issues but 6 hours of screen on time smooth clean. Only manor issue and its been almost every rom is reboots somtimes require battery pull btw this is a stock based rom so lg apps will work just fine
So far, I've had the most luck with OctOS ROM. I've flashed most of the more popular ones including candysix and BrokenOS. I've liked all of the custom roms I've tried so far but some features were not working in the 2 I mentioned. I also experienced some random crashes and battery pulls with each ROM. I have yet to have any crashes on OctOS so I'm keeping this one for a little until the others become a little better for daily use. Hope you find one you like!
I'm using Resurrection Remix v5.6.0 Android 6.0.1 12/14/2015 Build. I am using Snap dragon camera mod and Nebula MM Kernel based off of 777 Kernel. Everything works great only issue I have is with the GPS but there are fixes in the works over at cyanogenmod. Love this ROM it has so many Customizations and goodies baked in. Keep up the great work Dev!

when a new version of CM is made, it's best not to suck with one nightly build for more than a week as fixes and patches are constantly being added daily. that's how it always is in the infant stages of a new CM number. you probably don't want to be using a rom that is over a month old and doesn't include all the latest fixes and features as, say, the January 13 D850 CM13 nightly.
not to be rude or anything.

Just curious as to where you found the January CM 13 nightly. From what I have read the ATT G3 has not got CM 13 quite yet just some unofficial builds. Thank you for your input but that was just a build I've been using that I enjoyed. I try different ROMs all the time, Right now I'm using Candy6 for the D850 with Nebula kernel and everything is working flawlessly. I really enjoy layers over Cm theme engine. My daily driver until more 6.0 ROMs come out I've tried all of them and so far this is my favorite and if I read correctly its an official build ported from the Nexus 6.

that would be the thread for the most constant CM13 nightly builds. yes they are unofficial, but they are still exactly how the official Nightlies would be. this CM13 rom (newest nightly is 1-18) is probably the most stable 6.0.x rom for our D850.

well guys. What advice would you give what is now 05.APRIL 2016 the most stable ROM ? I have Stock 4.4.2 with ROOT but i wanna something new. What prefer Android 5.x.x ? Or Adnroid 6.x.x MM ? I need most stable ROM.
Thanks
Hay, guys we have questions for the best custom ROM not the one i/you/he or someone else like. i have tried Resurrection ROM, Fulmics, CandySix, XOSP, and the official D855 MM ROM tweaked for D850, but none of them could make me their friend, as all of them has their own glitches and can't run for the long run as the daily driver.
If any one has good long run experience please tell us too,
Edited: Guys i have changed my mind after Fulmics 5.0 launched. I did install it, on my D850, the thing is fantastic. I feel like i'm having an LG G5 in my hands. So, i have really changed my mind about custom ROMs most instantly the FULMICS 5.0 is wow.
Hello everyone,
I have been on a search for a regularily updated ROM based on AOSP. Since Marshmallow, I found most ROMs for the S4 have been based on CM.
By accident, I stumbled upon VanirAOSP.
I wanted to start a discussion about the latest nigtlies for VanirAOSP as there is no discussion in relation to the S4. I found this thread but it is very much out dated:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485089
Let me know what you think!
For me it is very stable, there are regular updates and I have found no bugs so far. I would like to know if it truely is AOSP based as I get a slight CM feel off it as opposed to the AOSP based ROM, Dirty Unicorns.
Try it for yourself and see!

There already are several AOSP based roms. VRToxin is AOSP based. And there is an actual AOSP rom made by the JDCTeam.

Hello,
Yeah VRToxin looks cool but it is based on many different ROMs as far as I know. Kind of like Resurrection Remix or PAC ROM. But these ROMs still lean heavily on CM, and I'm looking for a ROM like Omni ROM or Dirty Unicorns that draws completely from AOSP and adds it's own touches from there. Little to no CM.
I know about JDC Team's work and it's fantastic, but it's not really what I'm looking for as it doesn't update that often and it lacks cool features like the ones you would find in Omni ROM or DU.
Basically, I'm a contrary B*****d But Vanir says it's AOSP based, it's got some cool features, it updates regularly and it's working on my S4 so I'm going to see how things!
Taken from the VRToxin thread:
ROM OS Version: 6.0.x Marshmallow
Based On: Aosp

I'd take JDC's performance over features. I can add the features I want to the JDC roms using Xposed, but I cannot add the performance I want to other roms, because the custom kernel in the JDC team roms isn't publicly available.
I didn't know Vanir is still being built for the S4. I saw the old rom threads not being updated anymore so I thought they dropped support.
What kernel are they using? I read that they have their own NUCLEARREACTOR kernel. Are they using for the S4 too or is it just a stock kernel?
Update: So I took VanirAOSP for a ride. The rom seems nice, it has CM influences. But that's not why I tried it. I wanted to see how it fares performance wise. And, in my opinion, JDC's AOSP is better when it comes to performance. Even on the Extreme Battery Profile, the JDC rom seems equal or slightly faster than Vanir on default settings. I didn't do any benchmarks, this is just user experience.
Other than that it seems like a solid rom. But it's not for me. Maybe if there was a way to flash alucard kernel on it.

I will give it a try though! My primary phone is an S5 so I use my S4 to test out new ROMs before committing to them.
You make a good point about performance over features. I just remember installing JDCTeam's AOSP ROM before and of course the next morning at work I Really needed a torch and had no internet to install an app! Things like a torch I took for granted in a ROM. I guess you would just need to put in more time setting it up than you would say CM, which contains many features out of the box.
Yes I set up this discussion to make people aware that the ROM is very much alive and kicking! It seems to be using a custom kernel. The picture below is from the S5 but it's the same story with the S4.
@Steve Geemaggio, you can open the camera app, set it to video and turn on the flash. It's not perfect, but it does the job in an emergency.
Also, the kernel is not really a custom one. It's more of a modified stock cm kernel from what I saw while having the rom on my device. I used Kernel Adiutor to see what I could configure, but there wasn't much to configure. CPU/GPU frequency and governors, some read-ahead cache and I-O schedulers and that's about it.
For normal everyday usage it's ok, but if you're a tweaker/poweruser there isn't much to do.

For normal everyday usage it's ok, but if you're a tweaker/poweruser there isn't much to do.

That's exactly what I did my friend
That's a pity about the kernel. It does seem good enough for everyday usage, but I'm starting to feel it could do better. The lack of a music player and file manager day one seemed strange to me and I find the default browser is a small bit buggy. Perhaps it's just early days for this build.
Hopefully they will make it more power user friendly as builds continue to come out.
For now I think I may try VRToxin. It looks very impressive!

Taken from the VRToxin thread:

Hello again,
I tried out VRToxin 4.0 on my S5.
My first impression, was that it looks awesome. Feature-wise, there is nothing you can't do! It is by far the most feature-rich and most unique looking ROM I have ever used.
Unfortunately I also find that it is very buggy at the moment. In the 19/03/16 release, The default calendar and clock crash as soon as you try to open them. Some features, such as 'Automatic Mode' in 'Themes' can't be used as they cause the system UI to crash every so often. I also noted that the kernel is set to 'Permissive' by default.
I like this ROM and I want to use it, but with bugs like these, I would rather the ROM was updated more often.
Thank you for the suggestion anyway and I'm glad you found Vanir to be okay.
I run this rom. Have for awhile.i believe they have a Google plus page and don't post much on xda anymore
Hi there,
Just came back to xda after a long time from custom roms but now finally I have the time to play with it again
I wanted to know if there is a stable custom rom out there for the Z5.. I dont mind if its AOSP or from Sony..
Looking forward to hear from you all
Regards
So there are SONY ROMs. The most stable would probably be:
- Slim Stock
- Xperia X
The most feature-packed would definitely be MoonWalker Amaluna (even if still in beta.)
And then you have AOSP (which i use, because the camera actually works now.). The most stable is:
- OmniROM
- CM or AOSPA
The ROM with the most features is CM, yet the camera does not work there yet. 2nd place would be AOSPA (My daily driver.).
I hope i helped.

My rom isn't beta anymore only the full rom you need to flash and then v1.6.0
I appreciate the dev work on Z5, already so many custom roms coming out
so AOSP SABERMOD? is it good for a daily driver? does that mean the camera and video recording is working?

I haven't tested AOSP Sabermod..yet. I am on AOSPA, and the camera is working. The only thing that isn't is video (You can find the bugs i found in the AOSPA thread). If you want video working, i'd go for one of the above mentioned SONY-Based Custom ROMs. Like MWA Amaluna or Xperia X ROM.

Thanks so much!
Can you help regarding how to root and flash roms and so on? Or point me to a guide if you know one..
