Need some help! I have weak sauce root. I'm following the root junkie video. I can get the device connected. Adb reboot goes well. If I enter the second code into command prompt fast enough it works. I can enter adb shell. I then wait for the weak sauce root to confirm but then its like my device goes offline before I can enter the next line of code, why is this!!!!!??????

Ive been trying to get root on my phone but unfortunately the person who sold it to me unlocked the bootloader so i cant use the one click root option (the program unlocks the bootloader first and since mines already unlocked it just hangs there) my only other option is adb which i used to root my xperia x10 a year ago but now i have a new windows 7 laptop and adb is extremely difficult right now for me to get working, any ideas to help?
btw idk if this helps but when i try booting into the recovery i get an error signal
thanks in advance!
1 click works. I had the same issue. After it does the bootloader unlock it should restart phone, then boot back into bootloader and continue for root. Wrong forum btw, use q& a.

ok id move it but i dont think i can
and i tried that and it doesnt work, it says "waiting for device" it wants me to accept my bootloader being unlocked but since mine already is i go straight to the fastboot, rebooting to fastboot does nothing to continue the process
Learn to root without using a one click method. You will learn important things about your phone that will help you in the future.

This is why I hate 1-click roots. I root all of my phones manually because this advice is so true.
well ive taken your advice and i have adb devices showing my serial number so i have that working, but now when i try rooting through fastboot i get a message saying fastboot is not recognized *sigh* any help?
fatboot solution (possibly)

I've been going through the same thing and I believe I may have found the solution to adb issue. Waiting on phone to charge now so that I can try it again.
From what I've found, you have to download fastboot separately and place in the same file containing adb.exe
hope this helps

Open a command prompt from the one click root folder. It has ADB and fastboot support.

Hi guys,
Just got the HTC One X about a week ago and the weird thing is, I was able to root the damn thing the first day I got it but the phone had some defect and I just got a new one today. It is still on 1.85. No matter what I tried, I am not able to root it. I was able to root it the first time using the one click method, and today I have tried both the one click method and the newer adb method. Ive been at it for hours with no luck. I have never had any trouble rooting phones before. I am honestly willing to pay like 30 bucks if someone can help me root the damn thing. Please help!
This might help

Thanks for the reply. I've actually been trying this all day today but I'll give it another shot. I just reinstalled the 1.85 RUU and hopefully it'll work.
Did anyone try to use the manual root process? Does anyone know why I get an error that says "failed to copy su, read only system" when I execute "adb push su /system/xbin/su" command?
LMAO, because people at HTC don't want lose their job!!!
Dude, I've been trying to root this thing for the past 4 hours with no luck. If you figure out how to do it, especially on a Mac or Linux machine, please let me know! And I'll do the same.
I miss my Nexus One

Just got my nexus 5. Went to get my laptop only to find out its been stolen. Is there a way to root using the command terminal in say jumpy apps?
I'd hate to have to buy a Laptop just to root this phone. The root browser seems to allow access to all the relevant files. Anyone tried this?
Thanks.

Afaik, you'll need a pc to unlock the bootloader. From there I suppose you could do the rest on the phone using dd commands to get a recovery on. But since you'll need the pc anyway you might as well use it to get the recovery on.
How do you go to get your laptop to find out its stolen? Lol

You will need a PC with working adb connection to unlock the bootloader

Actually, you'll need fastboot working, not adb. They're different

Why don't you just borrow someone's pc or go to a internet cafe?
You could always try a library. All you need to do is download fastboot, run "fastboot oem unlock" and reboot. You can then do the rest on your phone. It shouldn't take you longer than 10 minutes.
ADB and Fastboot go hand and hand from my knowledge. Even a slim non full version SDK still has ADB .

What do you mean "hand in hand"?
They're both command line platform tools offered in the android SDK but thats about all they have in common. One is a minimalistic "linux shell" for interacting with the android kernel (adb) where as the other is a tool that manages the fastboot functions of the bootloader.

Correct.
You will need to have USB drivers, of course to use fastboot, which are often referred to as "adb drivers" but not the adb binary/exe itself

Last Internet cafe closes here and pale think rooting will damage their LT! The ones I asked.
I only posted this out of desperation. Library computers are locked up so can't accept drivers.
I've been rooting since the early days and I did a Samsung g2 without a computer. The boot was open. I just put the su, etc on the card and rooted it. As it was pre owned not sure if it had been unlocked or was like that from new. I've come from the nexus 4 mainly because of 4g.

Do you have another device that supports USB OTG? It can do everything the laptop can with ADB and fastboot. The ADB binary is shipped with android, you'll just need the ARM fastboot binary.

Chainfire released CF-Auto-Root ,CF-Auto-Root can be thought of as “root for rooting beginners,” as well as those who want to stay as close to stock as possible while enjoying the sweet, root-enabled goods.
CF-Auto-Root for the Nexus 5 supports Windows, Linux, and Mac, and turns the whole rooting process into an incredibly simple process. All you have to do is download the zip from the thread and extract it, boot your device into fastboot (power off, then VolUp+VolDown+Power), connect via USB, run a command on your host computer, and follow the on-screen prompts on your device and PC.:good:
And....You never learn fastboot commands and when you get into real trouble you're at a lost and it makes it real difficult for someone to try and help you

Because root opens up the door for you to screw things up. Recovery allows you to do backups so you can recover from these screw ups.

Have temp root with Weaksauce, was wondering if any benefit of one over the other for installing TWRP? Have done it via adb before, just curious.

I personally think using adb keeps you in practice. Using adb every once in a while is good for someone that modifies their phone. Other than that, I don't think there's really benefits from one to the other. Flashify will allow you to flash if you don't have access to a computer, though.

... IF you are unlocked/S-off
Well if you use adb you know it is getting flashed to the correct block. As say if you let a app flash it for you an they have the wrong block you could flash say recovery to your system one an then you will have no os just a example but has happened. Myself I only and/fastboot plus you get to see output before you reboot. I recommend NEVER EVER use a app or program to flash anything.
Yea, those are valid points. Flashing through fastboot is pretty straightforward. Was just at work w/o and wanted to get a head start on flashing.
