[Q] Best Close to Stock KitKat ROM for Tab2 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I'm quite a Noobie when it comes to ROMS and I haven't ventured into Custom ROMS in any way before. But, because in the infinite wisdom of Samsung (my one B!TCH) is they don't maintain support for older devices like Apple do, I need to consider updating my Tab 2 to get some decent performance.
There appears to be about 4 - 5 ROMS that are being regularly maintained and I'd like to know which one is as close to stock Samsung ROM and easy to install with no requirement to Root the device. I have installed ROMS via Odin quite a few times, so I am confident in that area.
Ones I know about:
SlimKat
CyanogenMod 11
Mokee
SOKP
Cheers and thanks
Willo

Please some help!

People aren't answering because what you're asking for isn't possible. None of them are like the Samsung ROM and they ALL require a custom recovery and root. You can't install them over Odin. If you do root then try them yourself and see which one works best for you. That's part of the fun of Android!
Not to mention you posted a question in the General forum not the Q&A forum...

General Questions Answered!

So, since I'm already a seasoned reader of the forums and a member of the Samsung Galaxy Ace forums right here in XDA, I bought myself a SGT2 7.0: it's great. Mine's the P3110 (Wifi only) and it came with 4.0.3. Now, I'd like to root it and mod it as I see fit but I don't see much information on the current status of things. I dug around the CM Forums and there's no SGT2 7.0 dedicated forums over there. Here I see guides on rooting and the like, but no one talks about the stable releases and/or nightlies of CM9 and CM10. So, to sum it up, here are my questions:
Is it safe to root and mod the SGT2 to CM9?
Where's the buglist of the latest stable release of CM9 for the SGT2?
Can you see a better battery life on CM9 compared with stock?
Should I download the latest OTA on my SGT2?
Now, I wouldn't have asked these questions if I see them answered here or any other forums, so that's that. Thanks in advance for any information you might offer.
As a seasoned reader, you created a question thread in general?
Please keep all question/help threads in Q&A only. Thank you.

Basically, you could have found all your answers simply by looking at the development section. But here they are :

Yes, it is. You can root using CF-Auto-Root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957160) or other methods that can be found in the same section. I think CF-Auto-Root is the simplest of all. Note that you don't need to root your tab if you intend to flash CM9 (or CM10 which is also available), just follow the instructions in the dedicated thread.

There's basically none, except the official keyboard dock is not working (although it works in AOKP). You're not concerned by IR-Blaster issue since you have a p3110.

I'd say the battery life is similar. Do not expect anything battery-wise. However, you'll be able to notice improvements in performance.

If you intend to stay with stock firmware, yes. The 4.0.4 is much more fluid than 4.0.3, and p3110 has also an official 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) update.
The only drawback of JB (in stock and CM10) is the loss of the Tablet UI, replaced by Phablet UI. However, you can restore Tablet UI on CM10 by using a patch, or natively in AOKP or Paranoid Android. I greatly encourage you to go through a few threads in the development section, to get a better sense of all of this. Do not hesitate though if you feel lost or puzzled.
Thank you very much for your fast responses. Yeah, @PeartFan40, I guess I embarrased myself, haha!
@Einril, it's not that I don't like stock, it's just the bloatware that Samsung installs that makes me go all kinds of green but I'd like to keep my options open if something ever happens to my tablet I can use my guarantee, you know? I read about the Triangle Away app, so I'm good in that area, but just a tiny question: is it mandatory to have it or can I live with that triangle? Also, could I install the official stock firmware later down the road if I'd like? Right now I'm downloading the latest update for my tablet so I can save an image with CWM for safekeeping.
And just for kicks, what's new in CM9 for tablets? I'll google myself what's Phablet UI, don't worry
Thanks again!
What Triangle Away does is that it resets your custom binary counter, which is incremented each time you flash a custom recovery. Flashing a custom recovery on the Galaxy Tab 2 won't show up a triangle at boot, so you can live without using Triangle Away. However, it is necessary to reset it before sending the tab for guarantee.
You can always flash official ROMs via Odin. You can look at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-P3110&pcode=0&os=1&type=3 to find the latest firmware for your country.
What's new in CM9 ? Compared to stock? Basically a lot of customization tools, performance tools, and a more "pure-Google" experience. But it's quite complicated to list all the differences. The best way is to try it yourself

I already installed CM9. It was complicated at first because I had some trouble with ODIN (it seems the button Auto-reset shouldn't be marked) when I installed the CWMRecovery. Now I've downloaded ROM Manager and I'm thinking if I should install the Recovery the app offers. What do you think?
I also was tinkering with the system options and the kernel doesn't have a lot of governors. Any tips on the matter?

You'll need to checkout the Atrix 4G Android Development section for finding all ROMs available for the device. Read through user reviews and select the best one of your choice. Also, when asking about which is the Best ROM, you'll get 10 different opinions from different people. So its all upto your needs to use the one of your choice.

I would move it for you, but there's a good chance it would get closed in that forum too. Best ROM threads/questions are generally frowned upon around here due to the type of responses (mostly negative) and bickering they tend to generate. Try them out for yourself and see what works for you.

Rooted, now installing a rom

Hey guys converter from iPhone over here. Last time I rooted it was fairly straightforward and was able to get going quickly. This newer stuff is a little new to me.
I rooted my sprint s5 using towel root. Now what? I see roms like omega but none really say anything about the sprint model.
What should i do next to install a boottloader then a rom?
Thanks

Assuming you are a new XDA user. Welcome to the forum and be sure to read over the forum rules. They might save you some headache in the future. For example, this post should of been in the Q&A section but no biggie. A mod will move it if need be.
Anyways, about your question, this is the Sprint specific forum so all the roms here should be compatible with the Sprint S5 (900P). Some of the roms will be based off of Touchwiz (these will keep almost 100% of stock functionality while adding some extras) and AOSP roms (custom based on CM, MIUI, etc.) The first post of each rom thread will give you a good idea of what the rom has included, instructions to flash, what works and doesn't, and so on.
If you just rooted get a custom recovery on there and do a backup of the system and EFS first thing. As for bootloader, that is preference and may depend on what rom you flash but I would think you will be fine with what version you have now.
This is also a good thread to take a look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52456762&postcount=1

[Q] Screen Mirroring on 4.4 based custom rom.

Hello Fellows. I'm a new member of XDA Developers, however more than a developer, im a tester of roms.
Recently a installed a Rom named Galaxy S5Project for the SG S3 i9305. and as all of us know, custom based rom comes with the samsung drivers, due to its creation from a stock firmware.
Now, I've been trying to use screen mirroring in this rom (Galaxy S5Project) but it didn't work. Using Ezcast app + the ezcast device. I tried with AllianceRom and it worked just perfect, equally with TGP (the galaxy project) rom. i couldn't post this in the thread made by the developer because he probably thought someone did that question already. Sadly now one has done it yet. so first, Someone has the solution for my thread? Second, the developer's thread told me that i must go to Q&A or General Forum (i dont know where is that)

Android Update for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 - Suggestions and How-to

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this platform and to be honest a bit overwhelmed. Apologize if this thread is in the wrong section.
I should also mention that I'm not too familiar with technical points.
I own an old Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5110) which claims its Android version 4.2.2 is still the most recent one for this device.
So I'm looking for a way to update to a newer versuon, at least Android 6.
My first question is which Android version you suggest?
Second one, how exactly do I do this (is there a step by step tutorial)?
Third one what are the risks? I read something about data loss and completely broken devices?
Thank you in advance.

Mate, I'm on the same boat. Same tablet, also overwhelmed The only response to your post points to some custom ROM page but the instructions are not detailed. I thought I had to throw my tablet but it seems like it still has some life to breath if I can get it a newer ROM (many apps are not supported anymore with Android 4.2).
I think the first thing to do is root the device but where to start? I'd prefer using linux with adb, etc.
There is a lot of stuff here. Is there anyone that has taken the time to write a detailed step by step guide somewhere?
BTW, my intention is not only to revive the device but to ditch all Google crap apps. In an ideal world, I would have installed a ROM from /e/ Foundation, but they do not support the device so I guess my next best bet is some custom ROM that uses LineageOS?
Hi,
First you need to root your device and install TWRP recovery:
More info here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...final-root-single-step-twrp-recovery-t3404779
It's an old thread but you'll get the idea.
See this one as well:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-samsung-galaxy-tab-2/
You'll need to find the correct version for your model otherwise you'll and up with a nice paperweight.
After this, you'll be able to back up your current ROM and install new ones. Unfortunately, I have a different model of Tab 2 that has no available custom ROM's so I can't say which ROM is better than other. I would read more in the link provided for slim roms.
To get rid of the installed bloatware and even Google apps I used SD Maid. See my thread below with what's left on my tablet (Disclaimer: it's a barebone setup and not all things work so I don't advise going that deep unless you're willing to take the risk of having a bricked tablet. You were warned!):
