THX Looks very good. :good:
Hi, Im currently running malladus 2.0.2 rom (VS980) and I renamed the old bootanimation as old_bootanimation.zip and then copied this into system/media and now it only shows the default android bootanimation, you know, the one with the word "android" kinda flashing. Any advice?

I did not make a backup of it, and it did the same for me. The lg splash screen stays on a bit longer and it shows android and the light washes over it.

Is rooting essential?
yes, because you need to replace a file into the system folder

Not sure why, but I just can't ever seem to get any bootanimation to work for me. Permissions are set correctly (I think anyway) to rw - r -- r -- and the original bootanimation.zip is moved elsewhere.
There are a few variants however in my 'media' folder, such as bootanimation_gb.zip / bootanimation_at.zip / bootanimation_hk.zip / bootanimation_se.zip / bootanimation_it.zip are all present as well.
After rebooting my phone didn't have the Three branded boot, it just had the extended LG boot screen with the light shining on it etc.

You don't have to move the bootanimation.zip file. Just name it bootanimation.zip.back or .old, that way you can leave it in place. As far as the other files, not sure what those are [emoji53]

Inspected them all with es file explorer, turns out they are different boot animations for different countries that Three have a network. Deleted them all apart form the UK one now. Even with just the bootanimation from this thread in the folder, it still boots with the all LG animation.
Looks good, thanks. Way better than the stock Verizon boot

Hey all, I know this is old but I couldn't find the honeycomb bootanimation in these forums. I wanted it to fully complete my honeycomb theme for CM7, and after some digging around I managed to find it on another forum.
EDIT:As per request, I've made a few flashable zips for this bootanimation. I've tested each out and they should work if your using CWM3, sorry about the previous posting of flashable zip that didn't work! I've corrected the mistake and hope that you all enjoy this animation as much as I do.
If you haven't completely read this thread and are new to the rooting 'scene' each rom is different, the animations can be placed into different places depending on what your running be it /data/local/ , /system/media/ , or /system/customize/resource/ . It's up to YOU to know where it belongs as I've made each zip for each location. If you don't know where it belongs, get to reading your roms thread in the Dev section and see if there is any information there.
And remember.. NANDROID first!! I will not be held responsible for anything happening to your phone or life because of this. Although if the flash fails you'll either be left with your original animation or a black screen. I'd much rather you use Root Explorer or some other file manager with root access to do this so you'll know where to place the bootanimation.zip in the future.. but thats completely up to you.
Enjoy and let me know if this works/doesn't work and I'll do my best to help you- I'm not a serious developer nor will I take the title of devoloper as I only have a basic understanding of code and how the android system works.
Anyone want to make this a flashable zip? I would be eternally greatful! Also what are the dimensions on this guy? Fit an incredible screen?
Yup I have it running on mine and it looks GORGEOUS.

I've tried other apps that say root explorer, but couldn't get them to work. They might work but I bought root explorer, easy and well worth the money. On two different roms i've used you have to place the zip in system \customize\resource and name it exactly like the existing bootanimation. Same with audio. Example VZW_bootanimation.zip just rename original adding (.bak) incase you need to go back.

I agree, root explorer is a valuable tool if your planning on customizing your phone out. Its well worth the money and has replaced every file manager I've ever used. Great for me since I like to do things on the fly when I'm not home.

What permissions should it have? So far I've been unable to get it to work. I either get the default "android" or a black screen. Either way it boots anyway so I guess it doesn't really matter, but it's just fun to change things around some.

I have a request for all you creative folks out there. I just upgraded to ICS and I would LOVE to have a bootanimation resembling the retro BIOS style found in an old thread. Anyone interested as well?
EDIT: It might be sufficient to update the Android version in the HC bootanimation actually. Anything else would be just the cherry on top!
Thanks y'all!

Here you go, I wanted one myself so I edited the images to remove the references to v3.1, and also added separate animations for both 16GB NAND and 32 GB NAND versions. Hope this is what you were looking for!
Simply choose your NAND size and rename the file 'bootanimation.zip' and it should work

You can also use bootanimation.zip in data/local
This is good for those that don't have root, they can push the bootanimation.zip using adb to data/local. Putting bootanimation.zip here leave the original bootanimation.zip in system/media untouch. Just delete the one in data/local to get back to original bootanimation.zip
I have the BIOS portion edited to show 4.0 and upto 2012 for the "copyrights" LOL.
Trying to find a good second parts to add to it.

How to Install?
---
1. Your device must support custom boot-animations via 'bootanimation.zip' file.
2. If not supported, flash the file 'CWM_CustomBootanimation_421_Enable.zip' (Thread: link).
3. If you want the "PC-boot simple-beep sound", flash cwm-pc-bios-bootanimation-with-sound-v1.1.zip.
or
3.1. If you don't want the boot-sound, flash cwm-pc-bios-bootanimation-no-sound-v1.1.zip.
That should work with any Galaxy S4 (already tested with LTE version [i9505]).
CHANGELOG:
v1.1 (2013-06-24) = Script modified to backup '/data/local/bootanimation.zip', if exists.
v1 (2013-06-23) = Initial version.

If you seeing the "test bootanimation", I think there some "bootanimation.zip" inside '/data/local'. Remove it!
My "cwm-pc-bios-bootanimation-with-sound.zip" put the bootanimation.zip inside /system/media. Check if it exists in this directory after flashing the file! If you want, get the 'bootanimation.zip' from my flashable ZIP and put it inside /data/local.
I'll update my package to backup some preexistent '/data/local/bootanimation.zip'.
Hope this helps!
EDIT:
- If interested, I'm using the CWM-based recovery 6.0.3.2 (thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279579). I've tested several recoveries, and this was the only one that worked with my exFAT-formatted 64GB microSDXC (that functionality is essential for backups/restores).
It's a little off topic but I wanna ask something. Animation picture's size is 1080*1800 pixel in this zip file. Does it work if I did an 1080*1920 pixel sized animation?

Foxhound isn't stock based, right? I think that you need to replace the '/system/bin/bootanimation' for a "vanilla bootanimation binary".
Are you getting which animation on boot?

On My M8 GPe, it's still /system/media
Change the downloaded file name to bootanimation.zip
Set permissions RW-R-R
Make sure you save the original bootanimation (I usually add .bak to the original files)
It worked fine on my M8 GPe edition. Sense Version may still be at: /system/customize/resource
Thanks

Its the same thing with different name. boot animations name is used for GPe ROMs and other for sense-based roms.
Set the permission to RW-R-R as mentioned in the previous post, you should be good to go. Alternately, you can find some other bootanimations under M8 themes section.

Its the same thing with different name. boot animations name is used for GPe ROMs and other for sense-based roms.

Boot ani zips aren't supposed to be flashed.. "usually" it's found through /system/customize/resource should be like hTC_bootup/down_animation.zip
Usually in boot ani's it is just a bunch of pictures and a description saying when and where.
No updater scripts is found in the file ^^ that's what the name of the file is so you should be able to just move it to /system/customize/resource and replace the hTC_bootup_one.zip and set permissions to r-w-r--r-- (read, read, read, and one write for "owner")

What did you use to cut the full video down to the size of the screen? I'd like to play with it a bit but I have no idea how you did that part.

You could get a trial version of Adobe Premiere. It's a pretty full function video editing program. You could do a lot of things with that video if you wanted... before creating the boot animation.
Amazing! works like a charm!
I think it would be better if you remove the green HTC logo, as the phone already says HTC on it.
Didn't work for me, install using Venom tweaks, using root explorer to change the permissions but still nothing =(
