I believe I got the unlock code for my One S while it was stock/rooted, but Im on a custom rom and was wanting to switch carriers to an ATT MNVO.
Can I just pop the new sim in and it will prompt me for the sim unlock code on the custom rom Im running right now? Its with 2.16 hboot using the Viper Rom / Sense 5. Or will I need to do a complete reset of the phone to bring it back to stock first?
Thanks
As far as I know, it's best to unlock your device on a stock rom. Once it's unlocked you won't need to do it a second time since it's permanent.
I had some trouble unlocking my device on different custom roms, just as i went back to a rooted stock rom the unlock worked.

Just got a HTC Fuze P4600, and I unlocked it using an official unlock code I got for free by calling AT&T. It is now running T-Mobile.
The ROM version thats on it is like 1.x, and I wanna upgrade using the official HTC ROM update from their website.
MY QUESTION is if I upgrade my ROM, will I lose my SIM unlock, because I dont have the code.
Thanks.
Yes it may effect.
However you can flash any custom Rom.
In case if you ever get SIM lock back on phone just keep unlock with you & flash official Rom from T-mobile and use unlock code again.
I recently installed Android Revolution HD on my Sensation 4G and love it. But before i did so, i followed one of the fine guides on this site to sim unlock my phone. I did that on a rooted stock rom though. I'm guessing it didn't stick since I flashed a new firmware, radio, and rom.
Am I wrong? Does the AR HD rom come sim unlocked? Or should i just follow the guide again?
Just a note: I am on T Mobile and and have no other sims to use. Sim unlocking is more out of curiosity and preparing for the possibility of not using T Mobile anymore in the future.
If unlocking was succesful it remains sim unlocked. At least you can try to unlock again while rooted.
At my knowledge custom roms are never sim locked.
I have LG nitro HD locked to AT&T, I have cyanogenmod ROM. I do have unlock code.
I'm trying to carrier unlock, but when I insert "not accepted" SIM card it doesn't ask for unlock code.
So I try the other method - dial 2945#*930# and nothing happens.
What can I do?

it's the cyanogen rom for sure, I don't think lg would know..
from what I have seen on my phone and other phones if you are using CM7/CM9 or possibly other custom roms that are not based on the stock rom you will not be able to use some of the dialer codes. that could be the reason you are not able to unlock the phone. you will need to flash a stock rom and unlock the phone. then you can go back to your rom and have the phone unlocked

Hi smashcz, did you flash a stock ROM, then you are able to unlock the phone? i have exactly some problem, without unlock, i did my flash.
so first question, there is no other way can unlock after flash a new ROM? second, where did you get "Sotck ROM"? from LG website or from backup? i did backup before flash, could i restore it?
I have a One S that I rooted and put an AOKP Jelly Bean ROM (device_ville_jb-build-1) on it. I'm trying to SIM unlock it to go to AT&T and the SIM unlock code I got from t-mobile isn't working.
What do I have to do? Do I have to flash back stock for the code to work? And, if I do, will the SIM unlock still be applied if I flash back to my awesome AOKP ROM?
Any help appreciated!
I happened to be in the same situation. You just need to install a stock ROM, such as TrickDroid, and insert the code again. It should work.

What do you mean by "stock ROM?" I tried to install both versions of TrickDroid on here and neither would install. Keep getting an error 1 or whatever it is.
By "stock ROM", do you mean an ICS rom or what?
Then flash the ruu

Hey, did you ever find an answer? Same issue with a One X on AT&T.
I received an unlock code from AT&T for my One XL. The unlock code comes up as unsuccessful. I followed the unlock instructions exactly. And I've called back and verified that AT&T has the correct IMEI and double checked the unlock code. I've never had an issue unlocking a phone before.
I contacted HTC. They tell me to contact AT&T, as "they're the ones who have the unlock codes." AT&T tells me to contact HTC.
Would running CM 10 have any effect on my attempt to enter the carrier unlock?

Yes, SIM unlock codes only work on Sense ROMs, for some reason. Switch to a Sense ROM, and you should be able to unlock just fine. Then you can go back to CM10.

Do I have to go back to a stock ROM? Or just any Sense-based ROM from "HTC One X Android Development."
Would you know of a guide? I can't even recall which stock Rom I was running prior to unlocking the bootloader and going to CM10.
You don't even have a backup? Any sense rom is fine. They all have instructions that are easy for anyone to follow.

Restored a backup from 9/2. I forgot I even had it, as I didn't intend to go back to it. Unlock worked. Thanks all!
yupp sense ROM is the key
