Faulty Volume buttons... - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello to everyone reading this.
I just purchased a used HTC One X. I managed to work out everything that was wrong with it (including the wifi problem some HOX phones have) but I'm getting really frustrated with the non-functioning properly volume buttons.
The phone volume gets turned up spontaneously and I have to press volume down repeatedly to stop it from going up again.
I was just wondering if there is any app (or any other way) that disables the volume hard-buttons because it's really gotten an annoyance by now.
I have tried several apps that "save" your volume settings and revert it right after it's changed by the faulty volume buttons. But the volume changing doesn't stop unless I press Volume Down myself. It just keeps going up and the app reverting it back down again.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Try tasker to remap keys or something

Thank you both for your ideas. But unfortunately, I've never used Tasker so I wouldn't know how to remap the hardware keys.
It's gotten worse today, I can't stand it anymore. Taking it tomorrow for repairs...

Broken power button

The button dosnt work it seems to click normal and I did not drop it or anything else to make it stop working right. So my question is: does it have anything to do with the rom im running (cm7 nightly 179) or is there anyway to make another button take over the action of screen off/on?

You can set the volume rocker for screen on and you can have a widget to power off
Rocker on is in cyanogen settings

Thanks I found the volume key setting does the widget use memory?

prob does if you get it since it is a widget but im sure its not alot
well volume on widget off is working but it is incredibly annoying to not have a power button. has this happened to anyone or is there any write up on fixing a button? or any solution for my button?
thanks!
I had the same issue. Used the app in this thread to remap the power button to volume keys. Then changed the power button in the app to "focus" to disable it. This app modifies the build.prop file so you only have to do this once or after each rom flash.

Have same problem, it really pisses me off. One day it works fine, the next day, nothing changes and it doesn't work at all. The button clicks fine, it has a case and has been well taken care of, and still for some reason the most important button breaks.
If anyone has had the same problem and found a remedy please let us know.

I think you should find a way back to stock and test it. I had a bad power button and regardless of the rom they do fail. Get it back to stock, and if you can do a warrenty claim

I am surprised by how many Captivates have this problem. Once it fails with your phone off, you may never be able to get it to turn on !!!
I had cognition 4.5 installed and i was at work sending a text where all of a sudden my sister screen shut off and I heard the locking click sound. I hit the power button and it was locked. I unlocked it and it did it again. And it got worse and worse till the power button stopped functioning altogether. Getting back to stock was a pain as to get into download mode typically requires holding power, after hours of googling someone on these forums suggested using adb and a gui. I was able to reboot into download and use hemdale to get back to stock, and i was off to an AT & T warrenty exchange center to get a new phone. It seems to be a common problem amongst all android phones, as I have a friend who used to have a droid incredible, and upgraded to a droid bionic because his power button died.

you don't need a power button at all to get into download mode. or adb, or gui.
The power button is replaceable on the board if you are highly skilled with removal and re installation (it's soldered in place).
If you have questions about replacing it...PM me.
My power button acts kinda flakey at times, but then works fine for a long time.
My power button is all good now, been using this cappy since October, rooted, cyanogenmod 7.1, it's like a new phone. But I'm about 2 weeks away from the 90 day refurbished warrenty running out, hope nothing breaks on it again

do you know where I can buy that part? I want to change it.

Do you all know that power + volume down takes a screen shot?

Well you do now.
Just asking because I see screen shot in most of the power options in the ROMs for the HOX and I don't understand why. XD

Pretty sure default has always been power+home. Power down doesn't do jack for me....well, it turns off my screen after my phone goes to vibrate.
Learn something new every day...
[POWER] + [HOME] on stock 1.85.
Power + down is the stock ICS way of doing it and it works...sorta. You have to get the timing right or else it'll just turn off your screen, bring your power menu up, or mess with your volume.
Power + Home is just so much easier though...

Hit them at the same time and hold them. Home is dumb for me I don't like the path it saves to.

Also, I wish it'd get taken out of the power menu. Don't need 3 ways to take a screen shot.

And nobody says there is anything wrong with that!
I was just pointing out the fact that HTC has included this feature since before Google decided to incorporate it in ICS.
Also, its interesting that HTC decided to include both their own method, and the Google way. HTC typically seems to prefer their own way of doing things, and removing the more "AOSP-ish" components.

Holding power and volume down at the same time is native to ICS and will save the screenshot to
/mnt/sdcard/pictures/screenshots
if I'm not mistaken. The One X can also take screenshots via home and power button. This will save the screenshot into a new folder DCIM or just drop them into /camera. I cant remember.

I hate the volume down+home, lol. When I hold the phone in my left hand and go to press home with my thumb it sometimes takes a screenshot.
On a random note, I feel like the HOX and a lot of other phones are easy to use one handed. I have slightly larger than average hands, but people should just put their pinky right under the home key on the edge if they need to. ANYWAY

If I press the power button it turns the screen off and back on. I did this a few times and I saw the welcome screen to AOSP.

Longest was a min or so. It's weird, the power button turns screen off/on like it should. The vol keys make the sound up and down because it vibrates like it should when it reaches vibrate mode. I got the splash screen up once, but then it just bootlooped so i restarted and it went back to this static screen
Anything that was done previously that may have caused it? Also, have you ever replaced the screen? Anything at all?

Well I just wiped everything prior to this, No reflash, just wanted to wipe it. It was on the AOSP welcome screen, the screen turned off then I turned it on and it was like this. Worst part about it is the fact that adb wasnt turned on because of wiping data.
Never replaced the screen. Never replaced anything
I'm thinking along the same lines as 18th.abn, that its a hardware failure. Either screen is broken, or a wire inside has come loose. Phone (CPU, etc.) seems to be working, just not displaying what its supposed to.

What do you mean "of course"? If you just give us 1 sentence asking for help, and don't tell us what you tried, we can only guess. And obviously "I've tried everything I can think of" doesn't clear up matters at all.
That is unquestionably a hardware failure. You've got a lead loose inside somewhere. Sorry.

HTC ONE X Wont turn on, flashing home and back buttons

All of a suddon my htc one x wont turn on. When I plug it in I get a solid green charging light. When I hold power the home, back and recent apps buttons flash bright white, when I try recovery mode, power and vol down I get the same flashing home buttons. Any ideas, thanks.

press and hold power until the home, back and recent apps buttons flash bright white, I think 7 times? then they stop flashing and the screen goes black, let go of power and press and hold volume down until bootloader comes up.

To be honest, I am not certain. Usually this occurs when the battery dies. I believe it's a bug of sorts.
It does that even when battery is at 60%.

Even ten isn't right. You're the one single person that has reported their phone behaving in this manner. Having to hold the power button down isn't bad for the phone, all it's doing is performing a hard reset.

Either way, its an exaggeration and almost certainly not true. People here often say its the "same problem" when its in fact not the exact same issue, just something similar.
As mentioned, various forms of the power management bug have been reported. But your exact conditions seem fairly unique.

[Q] Seidio Obex questions

Hello everyone, just got my case two days ago. I love it. Except the soft back and menu keys do not work sometimes, however the screen always works, and sometimes the keys will work flawlessly then I don't touch anything and they stop working.
My question:
Is this a defective case or is this somewhat normal?

That didn't make a difference for the buttons or the screen. Screen functions just fine, but like i said, i could be using the device, and the buttons work. then look away from my phone and press the menu button and boom no worky. lol. Called Seidio and they said somethings not right and are sending a replacement. Yay. I do love this case though except for that. Oh the weirdest part is, the back key will work sometimes but the menu key won't work at all. ha.
Are there any places on that case stucking on home, power buttons ? take it off and check again.
