There is no way to individually resize notifications.
If you change the dpi (LCD Density) of the display, you will make everything look smaller. This requires root and you edit the default dpi in the /system/build.prop from 480 to something like 400 or 370. This will make everything smaller though. Text, icons on the dock etc
If you have the xposed framework installed, there is an xposed module called "App settings". This will let you tweak the dpi of apps on an individual basis, so you could set the dpi for "SystemUI" (which is essentially the staus bar, Notification drawer and Nav bar) etc

What rootSU said.
Personally I run everyting at 400dpi. Looks best to me.

How To Reset Status Bar With New DPI

I have a Samsung Captivate. I am pretty tech savy so I have updated. It is running the newest X-Bean rom with the newest devil kernel. It is running silky smooth and looking beautiful. However, I wasn't a fan of the default 240 DPI the rom came with so, using build.prop app, I changed it to 182. Works great with my 5X5 Grid and Nova Launcher. One thing that is bugging me though, the status bar messages are cut off. The whole message won't show if their are multiple ones up. Instead, it will cut off the bottom of them. I am assuming this is the result of my DPI change.
Is there anyway to change the status bar to work with a higher resolution/lower DPI? I know some programs you have to clear the data app when you change the DPI for them to work correctly with the new DPI. Is this the same with the status bar?
Any Help would be appreciated.

Any way to shrink the icons ?

I love the new Nexus 5 but the icons are a bit to big for my taste on the new launcher.
Is it possible to shrink the icons on the homescreen / app drawer ? 5x5 would also be nice.

Install a different launcher like Appex,Nova where you can change the icon size etc or root the phone and lower the DPI in build.prop.

You could install a widget like multicon. Works really good on my S3.

If you lower dpi in build.prop, google now don't display the header images anymore...

Themer, lockscreen dpi

Recently been reading 1 article about full system dpi change (from 480 to 320) b4 was using manually the xposed app settings.
After I change the full system dpi had a couples of issues with some app's like dialer tw and other as well as themer.
The thing is that I could find all the unfixed app's in xposed app setting and change the needed dpi so everething went smooth with all of the except lockscreen and themer.
If any 1 know how you can fix the lockscreen dpi to normal ( when system dpi was changed to 320) I can't find it in app setting as well as themer I can find it but it looks a bit weird.
Sory for opening new topic for that but I wrote in that article but the author did not answer as well as pm just need some help to fix that
Ty

Try "AppSettings" module for xposed framework. It has per app dpi settings and a lot of other features. You can find it here. And for finding out witch activity represend the lockscreen you can use "Tinted Status Bar" it has a option to show a toast everytime you change the activity or app on the screen.

Ok mate....Tinted Status Bar makes your status bar color related to your activity.So...if you are in playstore and the upper ribbon is green your status bar also turns green.Something like iOs 7 look.

Xposed with "app settings" module. You change dpi on a per app basis.

there isnt any way to do it WITHOUT xposed framework??
Build Android from source and modify the calculation/formula of whether to use tabletui or phoneui.

Camera Interface when editing build.prop

If you change the dpi to anything lower than the default dpi of 640, the camera UI is no longer full screen and there exists a black margin at the sides.
Since Xposed App Settings does not work here, is there a way around this?
