[Q] Change Swipe Down App w/ Dot Case? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Just got my M8 today. Love it so far. Went ahead and s-off/root/bootloader unlock'd it, and have been getting it back to AOSP as much as possible (GEL & Xposed FTW).
One of the things i've been trying to find a way to fix, is to use Google Now voice search for the swipe down action for when the dot case is on and the screen is off (for those without the case, it launches HTC's own voice search which sucks IMHO). I use Tasker/Autovoice + Google Search API to control my home automation via Google Now, and it would be awesome to be able to do so just by swiping down on the case.
Any thoughts/ideas/resolutions?
Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can get Google Navigator?

I noticed on my friend's new Evo that there is a Navigator app, not Google Maps or Google Navigation, but the Navigator one.
This one has the large buttons for use in the car when you open it.
I have flashed to Baked Snack, and I don't see this app anywhere on my phone, can anyone post a backup copy or a link to where I can get it?
The latest Google Maps includes a "Navigation" icon that is just a shortcut to Google Nav. It sounds like you are talking about the car dock (or whatever it is) icon that is from HTC.
Yeah, I want the HTC car dock app, would I be able to back it up off my friend's phone?
Anyone able to help me out? Would really like to have this app for safer driving...
Argh I need it too.. I lost my shortcut installing a new rom and I don't have the HTC Navigator.. the blue arrow shortcut.
I am using an app called Custom Car Home. I prefer it because it has the large icons but you can customize which apps you want to link to (including music and Sprint Navigation which is what I was looking for). It also has multiple sliding pages if you have more apps than will fit on one screen and will rotate in landscape mode. There are also preferences to auto-activate bluetooth and speakerphone and auto-deactivate wifi. The only downside is that the icons are stretched so they look pixelated. Still more pros than cons in my opinion.
Part of Fresh's removed APK's folder.
Thank you bedoig, big ups!

[Q] Any way to remove the search button on the Phone/Contacts app? (ICS 4.0.3)

That big search button on the bottom of the call log/contact list is useless on the Nexus S that has a dedicated search button.
I've seen everywhere how to remove the search bar on the home screen, but I couldn't find if there's a way to remove the button that appears on the Phone/Contacts app.
I don't mind rooting and replacing the apk, but I prefer not to flash a custom rom (I want to stick as closer to stock as I can).
Thanks!
Good one. I imagine the CM team will do this for nexus s since we clearly have an efin hardware search button. The reason why its there is because the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have one but I'm shocked why they simply didn't add one next to the onscreen buttons and had to take the entire bottom of the screen to put one there.

[APP][3.0+] Fast Search - Search made easier on Android

So I made an attempt to make search even easier and faster on Android.
Search is daily habit and Fast Search makes it easier for you to search your phone.
Fast Search is a unique search overlay that helps you search your apps, contacts, music from anywhere on your android phone.
Key Features:
-- Can be pulled from anywhere within your phone by click on the left/right edge that overlays on top of the screen
-- Can be launched from the notification bar
-- Can customize the look and feel of the edges
-- Can customize what you want to search
How to use?
- Touch the left/right colored edge on your screen
- The 'Go' key on the soft keyboard, the trackball and the 'Enter' key launch the first suggested item
- The first time app sync may take some seconds
Search from anywhere and everywhere

Just updated the app to also include Google Search (available in the paid version)
Great app. One problem preventing me from buying the full version: I unchecked the option to have the status bar icon always showing and yet it still appears after launch. Is this a known bug?

Good catch. I wasn't aware of the bug. I will update both Free and Paid version of the app and update you when it's done.
Good

[Q] Setting up fresh install

Hello, I'll try to keep it short.
I have a nexus 5 since mid-august and the first thing I did was install CM11 using the installer.
There was a guy that helped me set it up back then, and I have no way of contacting him now. This is where you come in
I know I had the nova launcher installed but I also had the google now screen (when you swipe to the right). Also you could bring down the notification panel by swiping down in the middle of the screen.
Do any of you know how I can get the same functionality back? I've been searching the past hour but there doesn't seem to be a way to add the google now cards to the nova launcher even though I'm pretty sure that's what I had before I installed the new ROM.
Chances are you had either https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher&hl=en or or Cyanogenmods CM Home launcher instead. I think both of those support what you're asking about.
Google now, no idea about but ye Nova has a gestures menu where you can set gestures to actions.
Nope, I had the nova launcher for sure, and now if I think about it I may have only had the google cards (some sort of widget), not the entire google now "page" .
Edit: Nevemind .. I just found the google now widget in the widget menu.

Interesting Chrome browser integrated directly in Nexus Player

We all know the Nexus Player has a Chrome browser integrated in its firmware as it is used for some settings, google cast support, etc. However, it seems the browser can be somewhat user accessed and has a bit more capabilities than I expected, such as a desktop mode, mostly baked remote control support, ability to directly access web, image, map, etc search and so on. The interface for the browser seems close to having full remote control support. Amyone can sideload the actual Chrome from the Play store, however that one doesn't have a leanback interface like the built in one yet.
Here's how to find it:
Select settings at the bottom of the main menu
Select "About" from the first row
Scroll down and select "Ads"
Scroll down and select "Ads by Google"
Scroll down to "Ads Settings" link and select it
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "Desktop View"
Now you can select from the top bar with your remote any of the quick links for Google services, such as "Search". Once you do so, you're brought to the standard Google search page... clicking in the search field brings up the standard software keyboard (or use your sync'd phone, otg keyboard, etc). The results are displayed in normal "Mobile" view as on a phone, but you can scroll to the bottom of that page and choose to view the results in "Classic" desktop mode which is preferable.
Once you visit a site you can scroll through it with your remote as well, however navigating and clicking links seems to be hit or miss depending on the site. Also, hitting "back" currently takes you back to the settings menu instead of the previous page. I'm sure there are other quirks as well.
The point of this is: it'd seem to be trivial for an enterprising developer to wrap the existing functionality in an app and expose this near complete built-in remote ready chrome browser for easy leanback web browsing on the NP. Or, of course, the obvious route of Google exposing this web browser to leanback itself. Interesting.
This is cool to know. Love or hate the old google tv boxes (the ones with honeycomb) that is one feature they had done really well was they had a really awesome version of chrome browser that was very similar to the pc version out at the time. Still one that is made to work with the NP is good too.
I was able to install Chrome Beta from the Play store, and after getting past the "I Agree" screen it works perfectly. I'm using a BlueTooth KB/Mouse.
I'm using ChainFire's Launcher to start it, as the Icon doesn't populate on the home screen.
Tried this but can't get beyond "Ads by Google". When I select this I get a black bar down the center of the screen (1/3 the screen) and it flashes some information but then goes back to black.

I may be seeing the "I Agree" screen but it disappears pretty quickly.

Same happens with me. I read in another post Chrome will work (non-beta) but launched through the Chainfire sideload launcher. Also read Nova launcher works. Will test this weekend and update.
Strange. I still have no problem getting in to the built-in browser doing what I wrote above as long as Chrome from the play store isn't installed. If you instal Chrome from the play store, it supplants the built-in browser and the procedure above doesn't work anymore.
I also have Chrome from the play store installed... it works ok, but not as well as the (near hidden so useless) built in browser when it comes to the remote control support - with keyboard and mouse Chrome from the play store works perfect. I also don't like the Chrome from the play store defaults to its "mobile" UI in search, etc.
Hopefully Google will surface the built-in soon and provide an easy link in the main leanback interface.
I thought I got rid of the Chrome browser I had downloaded as a test but I hadn't. Once I did, the built-in now works except it does not fit the screen correctly (menu items at top only display half).

Your TV is probably not in "just fit" kind of mode... it's probably over scanning or set to 16:9, etc. If you can change the aspect ratio through your TV settings that'll probably fix the issue. Most media content is designed for overscanning so won't be an issue, but things like web browsers, PC screens, etc are not.
I was able to get the built in chrome by just installing google search from the playstore..
