HTC mail app - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hello all,
I've decided to ditch Gmail and use the stock mail app. One if my accounts was hacked recently so Google had me add an extra layer of protection that when ever I sign in from another new device (or when I change ROMS) it sends me a verification code in a text message to complete the sign in. Is this what's preventing me from being able to sign into my account using the HTC mail app? Is there a way around it or something I'm missing when trying to set it up.
Thanks,
Mark

You have to go into your Google security settings and get a unique password that you will use for the HTC mail app. You will use the password supplied when you setup the mail app instead of your Google password. You will find it near the bottom of the security screen.

Where are the Google security settings at? I was able to go to Google settings and hit the 3 dots on the to right and one of the options was to get a verification code and it gave me one. I tried to use it as a password without a space in the middle and with but it still says failed.

I am not near a computer right now but you might need to get to the Google security settings via a browser. A verification code will definitely not work. You need to set an app specific password. Try to Google search "two step authentication app specific password" sorry I can't be of more help right now. If I was near a computer I could give you exact steps.

https://www.google.com/settings/security
Then click on settings for app passwords
It will generate a one time use password that will not be shown again after initially generated. You can save it if you wish, but you can generate as many as you wish so there really isn't a need. You can also revoke it at any time.

Thanks to both of you for the help. It worked like a charm.

Glad you got it to work. Too bad Google doesn't make that function a bit more obvious.

Go to the application info page in your device, clear data, reboot, then try it again. If it still doesn't work, contact the developer(s) via the application market page (near the bottom - "contact developer" via email).
It's working now, I waited a few hours and it came out of its funk. Thanks.

Replacement for "my calculator" private message app

I previously used "my calculator"as a way to store private messages. This application would intercept and sms from a contact I delegate and give a special but otherwise unrecognizable notification icon. Is there any way to accomplish this with KitKat even if a special app is needed.

I used to use an app called Vault. It was awesome- completely hidden and the only way to access it was by typing a code on your dialpad. No way for anyone to know it was even installed. Not sure if it works with 4.4 yet but it's worth checking out.
I think there are some core changes in KitKat that need to be addressed

Per app sync scheduler

Trying desperately to find an app that will let me control when each app can sync it's data in Internet. For example, I took some photos and Dropbox photos autosync is enabled in the Dropbox app itself but I want it to sync these photos only at 6pm using Mobile data.
I want to be able to control each app's sync activity or make a profile for scheduled time X - at this time only Gmail, yahoo will be able to sync data (even on wifi).
Thank you for helping.
P. S.
I use now my tablet with mobile data plan and tethering my nexus 5 (nexus sits on wifi state and start to upload photos that I took to Dropbox - I want to be able to disable this sync and other from 8:00 - 16:00 for example). I don't want to disable every app sync every morning.

Tasker + Synker. Some combo of that should do the trick.
Can you be more specific please?

Paraphrased from Why You Get One-Word Answers:
"If they give you one word, search that word. The information is out there already probably many times over...Start with searching xda...
Next search google..."
Before asking to be more specific, I checked the tasker and synker but still, was not satisfied about the results.

GMAIL Outside account support?

Ive heard many things about google bringing competitors email to their app.. From what ive gathered it will allow you to set up multiple accounts in the the app such as your gmail and yahoo accounts. Can anyone confirm this?? and also is it available yet?? im assuming not because i cant find an option for it in the app. Very excited for it!! I love the gmail app but am forced to use the stock app so i can have both accounts of mine in one app that syncs together!!
Yes you can do it. I have my Hotmail account connected to my Gmail app. If you have received the latest update for Gmail then you can. I didn't get access to the update right away so maybe you'll have the option soon?

After updating Gmail the first time you open the app it shows a video and displays a screen with how to use the new features. Essentially you just tap the top left corner to open the slide menu and then there is a little "+" at the top to then choose what kind of account you want to add and continue from there.
