VERY strange touch screen behaviour
Device: LG P920 Australian Optus Model, was upgraded to 2.3.5 using LG tools, then rooted ( cant remember which guide I used but it installed a package and su, was not superone click, maybe VRoot? it was for 2.3.5 and it worked) .
- then updated to v28b- eur- xx ICS , 4.0.4, kernal 3.0.21 using guides from Drastic00 xda guide
I am a bit of a phone noob, just learning to root using old samsungs and did my first ics flash on the LG P920. All good so far and thanks to all the guide contributors.
So the problem I am having in that the touch screen has two dead sections, the bottom section exactly covering the area occupied by the phone , message ect icons, and half way up a similar size section right across the phone. I have searched every post and forum I can find and cant find any thing like this. The touch screen works, just not in those sections. To get around it I can some times flip the phone to access things on parts of the screen that work, but a lot of time not.
I believe this started after I rooted the phone, although its always had issues with touch lag. If I hadnt rooted the phone, and its was just some random section I would put it down to hardware, but using the developer touch screen tests i can see the dead parts are exactly rectangle over the main phone controls at the bottom, which seems to me to indicate software, and on the new ics home screen I have activated the touches to be visual, and there are quite often two touch points racing back and forth along the little white line just above the dialer, message ect icons. when this happen you cant activate anything else because it thinks you are using two touches on the screen already.
I have used the LG remote computer controls program and i can access all sections of the screen perfectly through it, so that rules out everything but the link between the screen and phone in terms of software/ hardware. Have pulled off the ribbon plug and reattached also. I was hoping after upgrade to ICS it would be resolved but no luck. Unfortunately I cant remember how I rooted it but it was working fine for a few days then i noticed the touch issue after I started killing bloatware with Titanium. Is it possible removing an app has somehow messed up the touch screen code and its somehow not being repaired by the ics upgrade? Anyone seen this type of thing before. Found one post with a dead section after removing an app, but wast the whole bottom section and no ghost touches running around. Possessed?

actually this post is similar to my problem but no solution found, will contact poster to see if it was a screen failure or software. My screen is also periodically doing the flashing buttons, going beserk thing as described in this post.

hi,
I'm not sure when exactly this issue started on my phone, but I updated my touch pro with the chevron updater and have quite a lot of apps installed.
after several seconds workling with the phone, the touch screen stops working while the phone acts perfectly normal. I can use the keyboard and tilt the phone but I cannot use the touch screen anymore.
By turning the phone off and on it works again.
has anyone experienced a behavior like this?
I noticed my touchscreen becoming unresponsive when loading particular websites. Even had it freeze once (only time it ever froze on me)
What were you doing when it does this? Do you have the multitasking reg edit on?

I know this is an old thread but this is the only reference to the exact same problem that I'm having. I'm having difficulty putting this down to hardware as the screen becomes responsive again when locking and unlocking which might point to software.
It could be a hardware issue that is resolved by locking then unlocking the phone but I don't know enough about the construction of it to have an opinion.
The advice I've had from htc is to wipe the 'phone and start again but I don't expect that to solve it (especially as their call handling system refers to Window Mobile 7 - the second large commercial organisation I've seen that on in recent weeks without looking too hard!).
Has anyone else seen this since the original post or @exilkubaner was a solution found to your problem?
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. I hard reset my HTC 7 Pro, but no success, my screen doesn't respond until i lock/unlock the device.
So, any one have resolved this issue since the first post ?
Regards
Had the same issue, but I didn't have any roms installed.
Brought it in to Sprint and they found that I had a fried ribbon connecting the screen to the phone. Replaced under warranty.
It happened again, I determined that it was caused by my click in belt clip/holster. When I pull the phone out, it pulls the screen away from the keyboard a bit.
^Wow. Nice find. I'll have to be careful with mine now as I could easily run in to the same problem pulling it out like that.
I am having problems with the swipe down Notification bar on my Desire HD. I would have posted it in there, but this is a general problem, as I have seen it on several android phones in other forums. However, the ones I have seen are all HTC. Whether this is a manufacturer related issue I do not know.
Put quite simply; it won't slide down in portrait. But when I switch to landscape it works perfectly fine.
One of the suggestions was to use Draw Pad and see if there were any deadspots on the touchscreen. So I go nuts, and find a bar about half an inch on the top of the screen that isn't responding, unless I flick upwards quite quickly. But it's not a deadspot, as when I'm using that part of the phone in landscape it works perfectly. I can also swipe down in landscape from the corner (top right) perfect as well. So I would say it can't be the hardware.
The last time the notification bar worked was when I was in Tweetdeck, and swiped like mad through a load of tweets to class them as 'Read'. I've since uninstalled Tweetdeck, restarted my phone (both by using Restart and by removing the battery), and returned the phone to Factory Settings, but nothing works.
I understand that I can install a ROM as a last resort, but I am pretty sure that there must be an app that can reset the touchscreen calibration or something similar, to reset the dimensions of the screen when it's in portrait, or a hidden setting that can reset it. My phone isn't rooted, so I would much rather fix the problem, rather than overwrite it to save the extra work when I wouldn't really appreciate a rooted phone with a custom ROM.
I am running Android 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 2.1. My Kernel Version is 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb | htc-kernel(at symbol)and18-2 #1. The build number is 2.50.405.2 CL87995 release-keys.
(The (at symbol) is because I am new and outside links are forbidden for new users)
My phone isn't rooted, however I am not averse to doing so if it helps solve the problem. I have minimal experience with the Terminal, however, so if it is required, I could do with instructions rather than 'do X and Y'.
Thanks, and sorry for the wall of text.
Hello, sorry if there is already a thread for this, I looked a bit and found none with any similar issue.
I have the phone for one and a half years, tried dozens of custom roms with no errors, worked perfectly until now, never dropped it...
Recently I started to notice I have some troubles with the upper row of characters in the qwerty keyboard, and some games... looked like two characters are touched at the same time.
I enabled the view touches in the developers option and it seems there's an area where indeed there are two touches registered instead of one.
I'm not allowed yet to link to the youtube video I made but I attached a zip with it.
To rule out a rom error I tried several and it happened in all, ViperS 3.1.2, AOSP 4.3, and now also in Android Revolution HD 7.3
Also tried the different calibration tools with no luck, also tried the tips for the unresponsive touch screen from different threads...
The question is, have you guys seen this type of error? Do you think my touchscreen is broken?
Thank you for your time and help.
Hi everyone ! I'm posting this here as well as in the SP forum because I think this kind of problem isn't limited to one model or brand.
Story:
I recently got my Xperia SP's digitizer changed (apparently most phones don't like faceplants ) and when i got it back I noticed a "slight" change.
Symptom :
When I touch the screen and slide my finger there's a little lag before the move is recorded by the phone, like, I have to move my finger more than 1/2 inch away from the starting point or it consider my finger didn't move from it. (thus resulting in little jumps when sliding through menus or if you wanna draw a circle it start by drawing a straight line ) After the phone catches up however (so, as long as I keep my finger on it) it follow up well just like it has to. It's not related to the latency of the screen (as I said, after the first move and for as long as I keep my finger on the screen there's no problem) so even if it's after a hardware modification I believe it's a software related problem.
Resolution tested :
Through research I think my problem could come from a change between the dpi of the stock digitizer and the one I got in replacement, so the stock touch_slop value isn't adapted anymore. I tried to change it in my build.prop, but it mades no difference and the problem is still here. Although it doesn't mean the problem doesn't come from that (The way Android handles touch_slop has changed in the latest versions) I don't know how to fix it and I need advices. Has someone already encountered that problem ? How can I fix it ?
So, long story short : I need a way to tweak the dpi value of the digitizer that's stored somewhere on the phone.
I bought an XT1540 as a birthday gift for my wife and she is having an issue with apps and other things opening when she scrolls. It may be on Facebook, in Hay Day or whatever. I ran through several apps on it and did some of the same things she was doing. I didn't have any problems at all. So maybe it is a matter of how a person scrolls or touches when navigating. However, I now have a very unhappy wife who is ready to throw the phone across the room half the time because it keeps opening stuff when she scrolls. And convincing her that it is her and not the phone is not an option. Tried that and she went to work angry at me.
Any suggestions? Does the Touch and Hold Delay help? She is on stock 6.0 and her phone is an XT-1540.
One final thought, is it possible that residue on her fingers from makeup, hair gel or some other product she uses may be affecting how sensitive her touch is? Just a thought because that is the only thing I can come up with that is different between her and I.
There have been issues with newer touchscreen firmware on some devices (including mine). With the 6.0.1 firmware, my device gets super sensitive and frequently registers swipes as a tap then swipe. The solution is to roll back the touchscreen firmware to the Lollipop version, though you need root access to do so. If her device is rooted and running a custom recovery, you can try flashing the "L_Mretus_synaptics.zip" from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66002023&postcount=1262
